I am wondering if it is possible to change the Video Recording Format on the LG Incite. I think the camera resolution is great but I am only able to record videos in .3gp format at 15fps. Is there a way or has anybody tried to change the recording format to mp4 or change the frame rate to record better video.
I saw somewhere that there is a European version of an LG phone that ships with a divx recorder that records up to 120fps with AVI.
i also want to know core player wont even play the video format that it defaults to. pm me if you figure it out

I have just uploaded V2 of my profile - I have lowered the Bitrate slightly and changed from 3gp to mp4 file format.. I have also enabled 720p for the front facing camera - Let me know if the lowered bitrate still performs as well.

This is my edited media_profile.xml for far better 720p recording.. thought I would share it..
I have upped the bitrate from just 1MB/s (default)to around 4MB/s.. for me, it is clearly better when played on my Monitor or Television.. smoother, more detail and appears clearer.
I have tried a higher bitrate but found this to be a good balance between size and quality.
I have also tried editing the xml for 1080p recording but cannot get higher than 14fps when recording so have not included it..
to install, just unrar the media_profiles.xml and copy it to /system/etc and reboot.... REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL FIRST.
This has worked for me, but if you end up in a boot loop, pushing the original file should fix it.

I can see the difference just watching play back on the xoom! Alot smoother...ill check out the HDMI when I get home.
Will this work on any Android device? Say my DX? I take way more video on that.

have you a stock Kernel or Custom Kernel + overclocked CPU?
Works well, I have a similar hack for my Nexus.
Easy and simple improvement for video recording.
Using Hammerhead 2.1 & Tachi OCed kernel.

@twister_65 -I had this completely on stock 3.1 with stock kernel and worked fined.. I'm now running it with Hammerhead 2.1 & Tachi OCed kernel.
Even OCed @1.6, when I enable 1080p recording there is no increase in FPS, it stays at around 14FPS.. I presume the actual sensor is not capable of [email protected]
@mradlauer - I have no idea if this could be done to the DX, I presume so, but what resolution, bitrate and FPS would depend on the device.. if its anything like the Xoom, putting in an unsupported profile may result in a boot loop ?
If there is interest I can upload another profile with settings as follows... but I find it pointless as 1080p @ 14fps is unwatchable.. I have tried increasing/decreasing the Bitrate but still only does 14fps.
1080p 6MB/s @ 14fps when high quality selected.
720p 4MB/s @ 30 when low quality selected.
720p @ 30fps for front facing camera.

ive only played wtih it for litterally 30 seconds however i noticed that upon pressing the record button for a video using the front facing camera, it zooms in and stretches the image vertically in the preview window. i dont think that it actually records it like this but it seems to be some sort of graphical glitch....maybe you could look into it?
id like to say thanks again. did you change anything for the still images in v2 or somthing? because i no longer see those weird lines when taking photos with the front facing camera.

Pretty easy to increase or lower the bitrate yourself.
I personally upped the bitrate to 35MB/s for 720p.
Adjusted the 480p resolution to 720x480 @ 20Mb/s for quick and easy converts straight to dvd with no resolution changes.
Adjusted the audio bitrate to 256kbps, sample rate to 48khz and enabled stereo recording.
Sweet stuff.

35MB/s is 2.1Gb per minute - that would give you around 15 mins recording on 720p on 32gb card. Plus with the size of sensor and optics, im guessing you wont see quality increase above 3MB - 4MB/s and even that is asking alot of the camera due to the noise levels and lack of light/detail passing through the small plastic lens. As for stereo recording, I thought the Xoom only had 1 mic ?
Being that bluray movies are around 34MB/s.. I think asking a small plastic lens on the xoom to do that a little much. Also the tegra 2 is listed at only supporting 20Mb... did you also amend the codec maximum bitrate as its currently set to around 5MBs.. if not, you will actually be recording @ 5MB/s.. Also, is 35MB/s over the write limit for xoom internal storage.. I could be wrong but even a class 10 cards only write at around 10MBs and reads @ 30Mbs ?
If you want to try 60fps, you would also need to amend not just the recording values but the codec preference and possible the memCap too.. ive not tried it yet, may give it a go.
Im not trying to have a go at you, just stating that your filling your xoom up for no reason... in a long winded blurbing kind away.. not had my coffee yet..
As for the problem with front camera zooming in on 720p, nothing I can do about this, that fix would be above my head.. My guess is that the google camera apk would need amended for 16:9... my knowledge of Android goes as far as this little dirty hack.

bummer on the zoom and front face stretch problem... Gonna have to revert to stock unless fixed in the future... Will subscribe for updates in case. Nice for folks that don't mind those couple details though

Hi, just revert to version 1, it keeps the front camera stock and rear camera is improved..
As for the people not being able zoom, you can't zoom in video mode using stock... well mines never has.
I wish I knew how to port the camera front the Samsung 10.1 tab, does any one know how?

I've captured some slow motion video on the G3, but when I try to export it anywhere, or play it in another player it just speeds up to normal speed.
Surely this can't be right. It should save the video to be played exactly how you see it in the native player on any other device.
Does anybody know how to get it to stay as slow motion even after you've exported it, or save it as seen in slow motion?
To let you know I have done a search for this issue within xda, and it doesn't show any related threads. Has nobody experienced this issue?

Your Video is fine. Just use a Player like VLC and reduce the playback speed.

Thanks, I thought it would be better if it actually slowed the footage down as a saved file (like on the Xperia Z2), then at least you could post it to a shared website and show off your creation. Is there no way to do that?

The HTC One (M8), Sony Z2 and iPhones have a video editor that can slow down parts of a slow motion video, while keeping the rest of it at normal speed.
Has anybody found a similar app on the Play Store?
Or even, has anybody managed to make the Sony or HTC app work on other devices like the G3?

It doesn't matter what you take a slomo video of, the point is that the phone doesn't let you save the movie in a way that can be played in other devices. Surely it should do that.
I've seen a few slomo videos on YouTube made on the LG G3, how have they done that, if you can't actually save the video as the slowmotion version?
Surely, you'd want to show off various or interesting slomo videos to friends and family, so there must be a way to do it. I've looked for an app, but surely it should be native on the phone?
e.g. on my old HTC EVO 3D, the 3d videos were stored as 3D to see on a 3D TV for example if saved on a USB. Surely if you save the SloMo video to a USB you should be able to see the video in its slow version on a TV. Is this something that LG overlooked, or is there something that we're all missing on the phone?

Maximum frame rate : 122.783 fps
To see it in slow motion you would have to set it as 30 fps on a computer and save it again. No need to recompress it or anything (so no quality drop at all) but you need this extra step to play it back on a device where you cannot manually slow it down.

Thanks for that info, I wish thought that the phone natively did that, so there was no need for that extra step, I think LG are missing a trick there.

The most simple way I know is to use mkvtoolnix (free, open source and works on windows/linux/mac)
Open the GUI, drag or add the file you want to work on, select the video track, go to format specific options and select your desired fps. Then press "start muxing".

When I shot something in slomo on my Galaxy S4 the resulting video was slomo in all viewing apps or when uploade to facebook or youtube. only being able to view it in slomo in the LG gallery app is dumb. As much as they advertise the G3 as a great photo device the camera app actually sucks balls. Samsungs camera app is light years better and IOSs blows them both out. It still baffles me that android has no tap exposure and lock capability....

I use an app called Lapse it Pro to import the file then render and save it at 20fps. After rendering..I'm able to share it as a video file

Is it possibile recoder more 4GB size videos?
I've tryied with default camera app, but record stops after 4GB (about 33 minutes at 1080p).
I've tryied both on internal memory and 64 GB microsd class 10 (formatted in EXFAT).
How can i remove this limit?

I think using an external sd card formatted in ext3/4
exfat supports files larger than 4GB so its not a file system limit.
Might be a firmware limit, something can be modified in the build props maybe ?
I think there's a 32 bit limit in the H.264 codec or MP4 container spec that causes this limit.

Hi, don't know exactly what open camera does, but if it stops and restarts automatically (that's what I read), there's a better solution.
On the G4, camera fv-5 has no recording limit (one file).
I recorded 1080p continuously over an hour at 34mbits/s, file size around 15Gb on my external exfat 32Gb sdcard.
Sadly camera fv-5 doesn't support 4K video recording (hope it does in the near future).

Uses are many: road trip, family preparing the Christmas tree or just gathering, fixing something in your car / home then editing and uploading to YouTube to help others, framelapses *with sound*, session with grandma talking about ancestors, are just a few examples.
That's how on earth.
The fact you don't do these things doesn't keep others from doing them.

Anyone knows how one can change the camera on the fly? Seems facebook can do it so why not the camera program?
Even my old Note 2 could do that feature.
Okay so I tested it with Open Camera to see if it was Android itself or the Stock Camera App. And Open Camera just continues to record I made a 14,5 GB file recording. So... The problem of cause is Open Camera have other issues like not wanting to record in 60 frames. So I'm going to delete it again and go back to stock so not to be confused with 2 Camera programs.
So I found a solution for gluing the video files together easy - the free Program is called AviDemux and it is very easy to just glue it all together and quickly have a file ready. It seems to just fix them together without recoding it all which can take a long time and I tried another free program, openshot which took a very long time to recode it all and had issues with the sound. You need to set it up by Frames and so forth and some times you just don't get the same number of Frames Per Second when recording on the mobile.
But AviDemux did it nicely - very nice program for doing it - you just load the first main file *Control O* and then attach one file after another to and let it fly. Control A to attach another file.

I've been digging around for a bit but have yet to be able to find an answer. Is it possible to record using a constant frame rate with the Moto Z Play? When I record using the stock app in 1080p, 720p or 4K it encodes using a variable frame rate. This is fine on the phone until I try to edit it. I then get gappy playback after it re-encodes.
The phone has the ability to record in 720p @ 120fps which is recorded at a true 30fps but then I don't get any audio.
I've browsed some threads on here about the ability to enable 1080p @ 60fps after rooting your phone and making some changes. I have not yet rooted my phone but before I went down that rabbit hole I wanted to confirm I can get a constant frame rate.
I have also tried a hand full of third party recording apps and none of them seem to be able to override the phones desire to record with a variable frame rate.
Any help would be appreciated. I don't understand why they would chose to use a variable frame rate. I've never seen this before on any other device. I get it would save video file size by dropping frames, but the sensor and the phone can obviously handle the bit-rate of a constant frame rate at 720p or 1080p if it can record 4k at 40MB/s or 720p @ 120fps.
