Note 2 dual boot availability?? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When will dualboot kernel for samsung galaxy note 2 ready? Or do they even make dual boot kernels for samsung galaxy note 2. ..

You should send a message to Gökhan (siyah kernel's developer) about that.
Since AndreiLux is using the same source for both devices using different config files, I think it would be possible for Gökhan too. But he's very busy person, so it might not be as well...

More devices to come!
Come on guys lets get the Gio to support Mobile Odin. Here are our requirements according to Chainfire:
Getting your device supported
The list of devices currently supported by Mobile ODIN is rather short. Not all devices are created equal, and devices need some work to be supported. Currently I am only considering Samsung devices for future support.
At the minimum, I will need some information from you about your device to figure out the partitions, their layout, and how to flash them. You can gather this information by downloading and installing the app. If your device is not supported, it will offer to make a dump file for you. This will take a while. Post the dump file in this thread.
If you can find a .PIT or .OPS file for your device, please attach it !
After that, I will also need a kernel for this device running preferably CWM5, but if unavailable, CWM4 or CWM3 may also do.
If you are lucky, this will allow me to make your device compatible. It may be required that you do some rather lengthy and extensive testing for me.

This is going to be so useful!
i like recovery. it's very simple then odin.
why complicate when there's CWR
I like cwm, odin isn't in use for me, only when my phone is bricked.

i will waiting for gio..
Galaxy 5 is also supported, so low end devices will be supported, just need a bit of time

[REQ] Monitor mode / aircrack-ng

Yesterday on slashdot I stumbled upon an item of (potentially) considerable interest: it would seem some clever folks have succeeded in getting monitor mode to work on Android devices using certain broadcom based WiFi chipsets, including the bcm4330... They compiled working apks for the SGS II and we use the same wifi chip, so it should work. They also hosted the source on a googlecode project. SO, in theory (if I understand things correctly) all we should need is for someone with a working AOSP build environment for our phone set up to compile the code. I'm new to the dev scene and therefore highly unqualified lol, but I'm sure there are a handful of experienced devs out there with the knowhow to get this up and running!
Here's the link: http://bcmon.blogspot.com/
And the source: http://code.google.com/p/bcmon/source/checkout
Thx for this checking it out now!
Looks interesting, and for SGS II, let's see where it goes...
I've been wanting to see the this f pi r years

Please make it work on the s3!

its more than possible only a matter of time before a whole set in apk comes out
I believe the Wi-Fi chip in the Galaxy S3 is actually an updated model than the ones used in the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2. It would require some tweaks for our phones.
Yes ur right but who can build it for me ? Who???

[Q] Is dual-booting possible on the Note 2 - N7100?

Eager to try this and im not able to see any related discussions

I was going to try and port the dual boot feature from the s3 siyah kernel with the help of Gokhan Moral, i have got a stock N2 kernel ready to compile ect, but i cant find any compiler that works on the note 2 kernel, i can only find one for the s2 (my current phone).
I found a guide on setting up a universal kernel compiling environment, but the is so many things to install, it is taking me ages to set up

Can we get a nice clear post in from a dev about a) whether or it's a definite possiblity we can get the GN2 dualbooting? and b) what needs doing? (Many thanks to fishingfon for what we have so far). The thought of flipping from PA over to a TW rom for Spen functionality on the fly is awesome
Its also my understanding that the spen stuff is an issue because of the source availability? up samsungs basically.....

Hi,
I talked with Gokhan Moral (he is a elite recognised dev) about the possibility of getting dual boot on the note 2.
And he said that as the hardware is very simple to the s3, it shouldn't be too hard to get the dual boot from his siyar kernel working on the note 2.
And seeing that dual boot is available on the s3 and note 1, it is almost definitely possible to get it working on the note 2
If anyone knows of a compiler that works with the note 2 kernel, i would be very grateful if they could share it.
Cheers
Corey
Edit:
It's my understanding, that you can get everything you need to make the kernel, from the source code that samsung has provided, and by extracting some things like the initramfs from the ZImage. So you should still get full spen functionality, although I may be wrong

This would be awsome... Love TW features but i would like to have a more Vanilla OS from time to time...
I think we need a kernel dev instead of whining , the sad thing i don't know any

Any news of dual boot?
Could be great!!!
Thank you.

If someone could help me find out two things, I wouldn then be able to start trying to compile the dual boot kernel I am trying to make.
I have googled lots ect and asked on xda, but no one seems to know.
If someone could help try and find out:
Firstly, what The N7100 partition layout is,
And secondly, if someone could find out how to then edit the Ramfs from a different device with the new partition layout from the note 2.
Cheers

I wish Dual boot and Voodoo sound gets ported to Note2 ASAP. I seems to have posted elsewhere but I did discuss the possibilities with Gokhanmoral and he may be willing to help us in the port as he personally do not wish to develop a kernel for a device he do not own.
Siyah's port of Voodoo sound is already available for us through the latest RedPill and Perseus kernels, however dual boot option is yet to be ported. I wish to contribute towards the development if I could help in anyway.

Hi,
I am already in the process of porting the dual boot.
I have changed the partition layout in the ramfs, and I am at the moment just going thru all the files double checking I didn't miss anything..
If the dual boot does work when I have finished (fingers crossed lol) then I could really use someone who knows how to add cm sources to the kernel, so that dual boot is possible with cm and stock roms (I an not a C programmer, i am normaly only a c# and java, so i am not to sure how to do that ) .
I have also been in contact with Gokhanmoral, and he's been giving me lots of help with what to do ect.
Cheers

[Q] Port

What does it mean to port? Or does port mean?
it means move a rom or a feature from different type of phone to a certain phone

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_(software)
In software engineering, porting is the process of adapting software so that an executable program can be created for a computing environment that is different from the one for which it was originally designed (e.g. different CPU, operating system, or third party library). The term is also used when software/hardware is changed to make them usable in different environments.

Can a S4 Rom be ported to flash on a Galaxy Note 2? Would the S4 Rom work by flashing via Odin or Aroma istead of CWM?

Odin = no flash at best / brick at worst
Aroma is a script ran in a custom recovery.......its not a different recovery method
You *MAY* be able to flash a ROM that has been BASED off the S4 after hours and hours of tweaking. Problems you'll run in to are
Different screen densities, S-Pen support (though the S4 has S-Pen sounds by default oddly enough), Lack of temperature sensor, 'air view' sensor (I think 2 IR srnsors detecting fingers), camera differences, different CPU, different GPU.
These are just the differences that would need to be addressed for a S4 ROM to be used on a N2 that I can come up with off the top of my head.

Dual boot/Multi-boot stock-ish AND AOSP for N3?

For the Note 2, there is this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239453
It allows you to dual-boot a Samsung and AOSP-based ROM. How cool is that?
For the locked AT&T Note 3, there is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572978
It allows you to keep the locked factory ROM in place, while creating additional ROM "slots" to boot into an alternate ROM.
I, for one, would love the abilty to run a stock Samsung ROM and be able to dual-boot an AOSP based ROM on my Note 3.
Based on the above, it seems to be possible. I am no dev, but I am hoping to entice someone to take this on to make it a reality.
Perhaps a dev fund of some sort? I'll toss in $20. Anyone else interested in this feature?
Happy New Year, BTW...
Ah the infamous devil kernel, yea that's a dope feature and I'm sure in due time devs will cook up a kernel that allows this. CM for our devices is a newborn at this point and needs plenty of nightlies to iron out all the bugs before this can happen.

Yes also for the galaxy s4 there was 2 multiboot situations hopefully one can get ported
sent from my Note 3 or Galaxy Gear
We are just getting alphas of aosp . Its way too early to ask this question. but I understand why you ask.
