Crazy idea about sanding galaxy s2's bezel? - Galaxy S II Accessories

Hi guys! I just want to hear your thought on what i'm planning to do.... so i have this awesome galaxy s2 phone but my problem is that it's started peeling off around the bezel and now it looks like crap unless i use a case that covers it all. so i've been googling around and found out that some people sanded their white s2's and it looked black! so my question is when i sand it down will it look black underneath or will it be metallic color? i want it black tho.... has anybody done it? i've already looked into replacing the bezel but it's gonna cost alot where i live which is Belarus...
so what is your take on this? should i sand it down to make it look some what nice or should i just leave it as it is and deal with it until i get a new phone? Thanks in advance for any input.

You can probably paint it yourself if you sand it down first. So you could have any colour you'd like!
Just be careful with the face buttons I suppose.

I heard that people jump off cliffs with wings strapped to their arms, doesnt mean its a good idea.
Save your money and replace it properly. Are you talking about the rear of the phone? that surrounds the backplate (the bezel), or are you talking the front of the phone which is glass :S A replacement bezel for the rear costs very little and ordered from china they deliver anywhere, even belarus.
there is the rear housing

Hi! sorry for late response....i'm talking about front ..... i would have bought and replaced everything my self but i was told that it's not easy as the touchscreen is glued to the bezel? i have no idea if that's true but it sounds kind of complicated to me
look at the attachment to see how my phone looks (not an actual photo but it's the same)

The front comprises 2 sections, its a glass sheet that is over the top, and then the Amoled/digitizer/touchscreen is under that. The glass however is glued to the digitizer.
The glass replacement is fairly inexpensive, but it involves heating the glass to release the glue that attaches it to the amoled, and then you have to reglue the new glass panel on top.
Basically what you are looking for is:
costs about $10-$15 on ebay.
But no, sanding down the GLASS would not be a good idea..

ok cool. thanks for help. i'll go out tomorrow at the local market to look for this glass tho and perhaps some1 who can replace it coz i'm afraid of f**ing it up!
hmmmm are you sure it's the glass that i have to replace? have u look at the pic that i posted? i'm might be wrong and forgive me if i am but i don't think it's glass that has worn out furthermore buying it would be a waste of money?

Not sure about white S2, but I assume you are talking about sanding a plastic case, right? The bezel on S2 is actually made of metal, so by sanding it you will expose a bare metal surface and obviously get a silver metallic colour. I am pretty sure there are ways to make it black by chemical treatment (after removing the bezel from casing, of course), but you'll have to do some research on this...
Oh, and you are right - your issue has nothing to do with the glass replacement...

Ok, reality check.
Its just some very minor plaint flaking.
if its under warranty, RMA it. If it it isnt see what Samsung would do for you.
if your not already using one, you should be using a case that will cover the bezel...!!!

ok, now im finally with you, its the full front bezel you want to replace.
like so
in which case i wouldnt bother.
As stated about, sanding it down will just give you silver metal. (where its worn the fact its silver underneath should have been a giveaway)
Replacing the bevel is a lot of work and involves removing the screen/glass etc.
Easiest way is either
a) just buy a cheap case for it, that will protect everything
or
b) if you really dont want to put it in a case just get some enamel paint (a little airfix or humbrol paint) and just touch it up with a tiny spot.

Or
C) buy new phone

this has got me wondering about the 2000mah battery and the case wont fit problems. Wonder if i can sand a mm or so off the back of the battery.

Just to add to the thread for future reference.
There are two layers that chip. The first one exposes a silver paint and then that comes off and exposes black plastic. So I guess it can be sanded. I'm considering doing that.

Its doable but you need to be cautious not to scratch the screen, ive done it my self and some other people. Check this thread.
My black S2 looks pretty good. Don't really like the white one tbh.

try it for my white s2 and it look pretty good again thank u for the idea
it cost me only 3$ (sandpaper p220+Adhesive tape to protect other unwanted area+ changing my screen protector)
look the result and sorry for my english

Instead if sanding down chrome bezel, do you his think there is another option to strip the chrome off? Mine is chipped and I don't think I could sand it down. I like to take if the chrome completely off the bezel. I an able to scrap off the chrome with my finger nails but it us not clean. What do you guys think? Any idea with be appreciated.

How about use a black nail polish and paint it over the chipped part?

Hi mate,
In my opinion, never do such a task that u do not have any experience in.
And the risk is rather high of ruining ur phone.
Just buy a good case untill u get the accesory from anywhere.
In india we can get the whole body (including front panel, glass, back panels and battery cover included) in 40-50 $(apprx 2500rs)
So just buy a case till u get a better solution regarding the scratches.
If u get a chance, go for the white body..as my white s2's frame does not seem to chip off.

Not to late I suppose
If it's not too late I have better idea which I did myself. The area where the bezel has come of can be blackened by using cotton and nail polish remover. What it does is, the nail polish remover spreads the black colour from the sides and now the metallic part is not visible! In short you are doing painting with nail polish remover. Just give it a try!

What it does is removes the chrome and reveals the black part which is under the chrome.

I love my Captivate, and have been looking into ways to make it better constantly; be it software or hardware. I recently picked up a decal skin off of ebay, and wanted to share.
I love the color red; a lot of the things I carry around are red. Captivate didn't come in red so I settled with black... until I bought a decal skin from Wireless Flavor on ebay.

So I think it'd be neat for everyone to post up their Captivate, a brief explanation of where they got their skin etc., and perhaps a mini review.
As for my purchase, I like it. I didn't want something much thicker as I liked the slim profile, but I wanted to protect against scratches as well. There's a slight bump on the back due to the Galaxy S logo, but I don't mind it. Are there any plain plastic backs that can be bought?

They're not as sensitive, so you need to apply a little more pressure when using them. I don't mind it, I found myself more annoyed before when I'd accidentally tap the wrong key.

Yeah, it's just a regular decal skin from ebay.
The screen isn't protected no... I'm not sure if I can actually fit a screen protector with the red skin. I try to be careful in general and have only noticed small scratches thus far, and only when tilted at the right angle in bright light. I might regret it later... but I figure by that time I'll just upgrade to a new phone.

Although I like my phone as it is, I am desperate to get rid of the "Samsung" at the bottom (would like it unbranded). I have an Otterbox Defender case which covers the AT&T at the top but not the brand name at the bottom.
Can you tell me if these stickers would work fine? Since I use a case which covers most of the phone I was planning to get either the gradient blue or jet black and apply only the front decal.

[Q]Bezel scratches easily?

Have a friend who told me how easy his bezel would damage from normal use. I didn't notice this until the other day when I noticed my bezel has lots of small scratches just from normal use (sitting in pocket, playing porn and such).
Anybody else noticed the bezel getting scratched/showing wear really fast?
Was gonna post this in the issues thread but wanted more confirmation before it was in there.

Yeah but its not really a big deal any phones on the side usually scratch easily you wouldn't see it on a all black phone. My previous phone mytouch 4g has bezel scratches all over it but not enough but you can't see unless you closely.

Eh it's a simple fix. If I find that I'm getting random small scratches on the bezel then I'll just wipe it with some suuuper fine sand paper to give it more of the brushed aluminum look and it will be brand new all over again.

lol thats exactly what i was thinking. mine is flawless after a week and put in my pockets and stuff
Yeah, I've got to say that I am pretty surprised at how easily the bezel scratches. The phone fell out of my coat pocket as I was hanging it on the back of a wood chair. As it was falling it barely grazed the wood leg on the chair before hitting the carpet. I picked it up and looked and sure enough, there is a scuff on the bezel that refuses to rub off.
Luckily my case should be here in a day or two to cover it. But it does have me thinking, I don't think it's the actual metal that is showing the scratch. I think the bezel has some clear coating on it that is showing marks very easily. I bet there is a way to wipe the coating off or at least buff out any marks with some sort of solution and a microfiber towel.

Just to confirm its plastic. I take these apart for a living... IV had just about every Galaxy phone apart too.... the ones that look and feel like metal have a "metal like" coating (that scratches super easy) but from underneath once its removed you can see its plastic.... as a matter of fact, Sammy doesn't use hardly anything BUT plastic in there devices... the vibrant, GS4G, i9100, AT&T and T-Mobile versions... all plastic. They have a frame in the middle that's made out of that material they use in laptops... maybe coated aluminum? Its tan or silver in the phones but very strong and very light, and if you snap it in half, it almost looks like cast iron... anyway, bezels are plastic, just coated to look and feel metal like.

The left side of the screen seems to be a little thicker than the left side, I can tell by the visible screen area seeing the cut off edge. It doesn't bother me much. Otherwise edge to edge size seems to be pretty good, minimal gap coverage.
It does a great job covering up alot of the crack I have in the screen.
Sensitivity seems to be perfect. No issues there with touch. The black color has a metallic speckle to it. So I think it looks great , finish wise.
Sadly no home button decal , so the home button is recessed. I might order a separate aluminum piece on ebay.
I did remove and reapply the protector a few times to try to get it aligned the best , which is possible to do. The edges can get damaged underneath since that is where it is painted/coated or whatever. Luckily this is black so I can just touch up with a Sharpie and it is good.
Fitment with my UAG case is a bit harsh. The case pushes against the protector, and thus spreading the case's molded buttons away from the phone, making them harder to push. I think a little bit of trimming to the case's black portion should help. I just got to figure out how I will do this.
No adhesive in the middle, just the edges. I had wiped the inside middle a few times when i reapplied the protector. No issues.
You can make out the thickness on the left being thicker than the right since you can see the screen cut off on the right.
Fitment in cheap rubber/silicone case.
Fitment in UAG case pushes the screen protector, will need some trimming.
It did an awesome job hiding my crack.
Image is alot better than when i had a standard screen protector on, which had the orange peel look.
I like it, I should order a home button stick-on to bring the level back. I just need to figure out what to do for my case to fit better.
I took my soldering iron and removed a little bit of the lip on the case, helps alot.
ok i went ahead and ordered one of these on ebay, sent request for black

If it's made by a Korean manufacturer, the quality should be good. Wondering how this compares to Spigen's GLAS.
i think this should be compared with mercury color screen protector.. if it provides proper coverage, that would rock.

From this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKxaFenup68 It seems that it might have the same issues as it only has adhesive under the color. When he puts it down and seals it, around 1:45 for the impatient, he only presses on the colored parts. I really want one that is adhesive on the whole screen. My Glas(s) Spigen is coming in by Friday hopefully and I'll see how it works with swype. From what I'm hearing I'll have to send it back.
the fit looks really bad. I can see the white base all around the iphone from the video...
I just asked the seller to send me to actual pics from the s3 and here is what I got from them

it seems like a really good fit.
that kinda looks like1 or 2 mm gap to me (atleast on the red ones)
honestly that is good enough for me either way. Still waiting on shipping. Also got the Urban Armor Gear case on order, so once I get them all, I'll post up pictures. =)

Review: iFeel Tempered Glass Protector

Today I received a package from Korea with iFeel screen protector. After unpacking, I saw a envelope green and white box with a photo iFeel Galaxy s3 and specification of tempered glass iFeel and the manufacturer's website (all in Korean) - www.ifeelglass.com .
At the front of the packaging has been specified specification:
a) Mighty screen protection (10H)
b) Screen crack prevention
c) Shatter-proof
d) Anti-scratch
e) Anti-Firgerprint
f) anti-bacterial surface
g) Secured durability
h) EAsy attachment with self-air-bubble-removal
i) Ultra-clear High definition
j) Perfect Performance of Touch Screen
(So says the packaging is that the glass is also resistant to acids, alkalis and temperature fluctuations). I did not wait for anything, and immediately sat down to check what is inside. Packaging of the two parties was covered with hologram seal manufacturer. When opened in the inside can be found:
a) iFeel glass packed with extra packaging, in which so much was quick installation guide.
b) small book manual
c) small microfiber cloth

After opening the package I took out my iFeel glass, which at first glance seemed to be quite thick and tight stiff. After a while I noticed that it is not so rigid as it seems. They can be slightly bent in different directions. I immediately noticed that the glass with a white frame (the ordered) does not cover the entire front of the phone and the cover a little more than my earlier part of the film's simple Puro. All holes (home button, sensors, front camera and light, and cut the letter "Samsung") have been precisely cut. I started the installation. That's what I always do when applying foil and other such things on the phone's screen is good infusions bathroom. In the steamy room dust particles do not "fly" to prevent build-up of dust particles on the screen (if formed micro-bubbles, etc.).
After misting the room I took off my previous film, I cleaned screen carefully and thoroughly with a cloth and installed the glass.
I can not remember when the last time I was able to easily put the film on the screen. The whole took a few seconds and a single air bubble dust or pollen. After applying I tighten glass with cloth that was included.
All very well be imposed. All holes are perfectly matched, nothing was hidden (like the pictures). After removing the protective film has a whole was not so thick. After application can be seen that the glass is thicker than the film (although it is just to protect). It looks very nice, nicely, only the home button is slightly recessed (industry purchase aluminum sticker case) but can easily push it. Sticker available on eBay for $ 5 should completely resolve the problem. Before buying, I read on the forums that the glass is almost identical (according to some people suspect the same factory) as the version of SGP tempered glass, which is also produced in Korea. People complained that the use of glass SGP is often a problem of sensitivity. Due to the layer of adhesive only on the edges of the sensitivity of the screen
deteriorated and many people gave up the security because of the comfort.
With glass iFeel not noticed this problem. When the screen goes to a finger as if the glass was not there. There are no problems with sensitivity, everything comes naturally, text messages you write very well. I'll report after a few days of use. Compared to the previous film, which I can see some significant improvement in terms of use. There is much less fingerprints as on a normal film, and above all, do not leave "rainbow effect" that occurs when standard films. For this one swipe with a cloth, and the whole is perfectly clean, as new sheet of glass. In the normal film you need a little work to a whole was clean. The same transparency seems to me like the film better. The screen looks the same as the SGS3 without film and slides.
In summary - for the very beginning I was happy with my purchase. I approached the glass skeptical because of the reviews of the similar product of SGP, but watching the interesting movie on Youtube I decided to buy one piece of iFeel. A significant improvement with respect to the film normal at the expense of slightly greater thickness (0.4-0.6 mm). My family members at first glance, did not notice that it is glass on display. When the phone is inserted into Slim Cover Case Samsung it looks very nicely. You can only purchase a sticker on the "home" button - not everyone has to like the feeling of touch without sticker. If a glass will proof his parameters like on Youtube, I can be considered as one of the best accessories for your phone.

Great review! Looks promising but looks so much alike SGP glas, and I'm afraid sensitivity issue might still exists depending on users. Before I make final decision I'll wait for some more customer reviews. Keep us updated op, ty!

Thanks for the review. I would like to know where to get that little sticker for the home button, can someone provide a link, not sure what to search on.
Thanks
I had the SGP tempered glass on my Note and it was pretty nice, but since the S3 has a raised button I think I will have to pass on this one...
Hopefully someone managed to order the "fully clear" one, I dislike the super-imposed capacitive keys
@op
thanks for the review, there is a few question I need to ask, can you confirm the colour part, is the paint work on the top of the glass or the bottom, I asked because I want a all clear one, and this is not available.
You did mention that the glass is acid resistant, so I was thinking of using some acid of some sort to remove the colour part, may be thinner.
that if the the info is true and add adhesive for full coverage.
If it turns out bad it's only USD 30 or something wasted, still considering this, sgp or xgear for this mod.
can anyone also confirm the paint work is on the top/bottom on the xgear or sgp.
thanks

I checked it and it's like the white fabric is inside the glass. But I'm not sure for 100% because I have already intalled it.

Metal band and plastics?

Hi all, I spent a very long time working through the different watches, decided I didn't want the potential screen burn issues of the G watch R or the Zen watch (and I love the look of the zenwatch) and eventually decided I wanted the Smartwatch 3.
Then came the strap, I couldn't find the metal band anywhere and wanted both the silicone and the metal band so I've just received a new Smartwatch 3 with metal band with an idea to order a silicone strap later...
Anyway, nowhere did I read that the metal band contains plastic, does anybody else's or have I got a newer cheaper one? The strap is indeed metal and took a while to remove the pins to shorten the band but the part the watch goes into appears to be silver painted plastic....
If the others are like this how easy are they to scratch on the front? Am I going to end up with a £200 watch with scratches on it?
Cheers all
I wanted to start a new topic but I'm hijacking yours, because this morning my stainless steel SW3 had an unexpected encounter with a wall (not a bang though), and I scratched the part outside the watch core, which is indeed fu#king silver painted plastic.
I would have scratched it anyway, it was a mistake, but then...
I try to polish it with a nail polishing machine (with the dedicated thingy, which is like cloth... I don't know what's its name), and I didn't know it was plastic until I tried on the bottom (on a link) and it worked, so I thought "why not!" and I made a fu#king dent on the top.
Which of course is way more visible than the scratch in the first place.
I'm attaching pictures of before and after (they are not that detailed but you'll understand).
I'm going to write Sony about this as I'm pissed about this, they should have said it wasn't ALL stainless steel.
The same thing happened on my Z Ultra, where the borders appear to be aluminum (and Sony said so itself), where it's really silver painted plastic.

Oh, the thing on the screen is a protective film, there's nothing wrong with the screen itself

More pics of the inside without the core: it seems like the inner casing is made of plastic, including top and bottom bezels, where the left and right borders seems like steel.
The plastic inside is not painted, so it's pretty clear that the top is painted.
If you look closely you'll see several hinges, the plastic casing seems latched to those. And if you notice, hinges are present only at the sides.

No problems mate, I would have bought it anyway, and since I bought at like 20 euros more than the rubber version, I'm not feeling all that ripped off to be fair.
I just wish they were clear about this particular thing, and I would have paid more for the whole watch in steel.
Seeing the inside, it's clear they could have engineered a simple way to keep the bottom part of the inside casing plastic made (to ensure no harm is done to the core when you swap bands), and the top all in steel.
It could have been done, and it would have costed like 50 cent more (for them) while charging it a premium price (for us).
Anyway, I wrote to the Italian customer care, and as they obviously won't know anything, I will bother other regions like UK/US as well until someone answers.

I think it can, but it's yet to see if they'll supply the part to the general market or keep it to the self for the eventual warranty repair...

All metal isn't the best thing either. I had the LG g watch r and that thing scratched so easy. That's the main reason I sold it for the sw3.

Let's differentiate from metal to metal... The LG G R is black metal, which is a pain in the arse to polish, while the SW3 is (at least the band is) stainless steel, satin metal. You can polish it like a thousand times and it will still look good.
That would be the case, if it was all metal.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It has certainly adjusted what I would be willing to pay for the metal strap to go on my SW3. As soon as it was announced I wondered how they were going to get the watch module to fit in a rigid stainless steel surround. I just assumed it would have a nylon or polycarbonate insert.
I wonder if there is some sort of protective coating that could be applied to the plastic bit to protect it from scratching without spoiling the look.
I have the 'metal' smartwatch 3 as well...
Unfortunately, there would be no way to have it all metal!
The radios wouldn't work... GPS / NFC / Bluetooth, would all really stop working if the top and bottom parts were also metal and not plastic.
Just worth keeping that in mind.
Yeah, it's a bit crappy, but I'm still more than happy with it.

I don't agree with that. The screen is not made of metal, so there's plenty of space for gps/nfc/bluetooth waves to go out of there. I'd rather have an all plastic core.

You know how LCD screens work right? Especially the Transreflective one in the SW3? It is backed by a silver / metal lining to reflect the light outwards, so putting the radios behind the screen won't work either! If they put an p-oled in there (like the GwatchR), then that might work, but not with the current screen tech.

You know what? I didn't know that! OK, I'd prefer having the plastic core than, it would be less exposed to scratches...

I was a little taken aback when I noticed it was plastic as well and my first thought was scratches to!
I'm going to keep an eye out for a silver permanent marker in a similar shade, so if it gets scratched I should be able to just 'paint' over it.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Permanent-Markers-Metallic-39108PP/dp/B00009RAX4

So how come the NFC sensor is in the middle of the screen?
And there is a bezel that varies from about 2mm to 5mm in width on the front face that isn't metal.
Is the back of the watch module metal or painted plastic? I'm not willing to scratch it to find out.

The back of the watch module is definitely metal.
Anyway, incredibly enough, Sony Italy has replied to me, saying that the watch is all metal but that metal get scratched too.
I replied posting a pic of the scratched part, let's see if they deny it again.

That is shocking! It is obvious it is plastic just by feel (and tapping it) without even scratching it I cannot believe they would try and deny it....
Anyway, had mine for about a week now and haven't scratched it just yet but I have knocked it a couple of times and panicked, mine screen protectors haven't arrived yet.

They eventually (after I posted the pic) admitted the part around the core unit is "high quality plastic".
I wonder, if this is high quality, something low quality would have fallen off the watch just by looking at it.
They told me to bring it to service under warranty, and I think I'll do that just if they let me keep the core unit (I have 2 spare bands).
When I have the time, I'll send it in and keep you posted (even though I think I'll end up with nothing, since it was my mistake).
