[Q] not trying to be a jerk but...i know someone can help me fix my antenna issue - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

jezz... i see people on this forum saying that they can make their phone can do everything but jerk them off...hell some one may even have an app for that...but i just want some help on repairing the antenna on my R800x i am getting no signal what so ever and it is absolutely a hardware issue....please smart guys help me out... this is the only reason i joined xda...

As I realize you want to get your phone working, there is no need to create three threads in two different forums. Also, you may want to ask a little nicer.
Anyways... if you thinks its the Cell signal antenna here is a photo in this link that tells you what aspect of the phone the antenna is. If it is the antenna your best bet would be to buy a back cover replacement from say eBay. I bought a couple in the past for around 5-10 bucks and your Wifi, Bluetooth, and cell antenna's are in there.

eBay listing
(this one is quite high, if you watch you can find them for half that price.)

Just do a search for Xperia PLAY back.... then search for the photo of the image above
seriously though, if you feel it is your antenna broken, just snag a replacement back and see if that resolves it... its super easy to swap out. I have done if three time.

cool..i'll shut up now
i do thank you for the response....my aggressiveness paid off....sorry for my A/hole ways...i just did not get a real answer until now...you rock:laugh:

No worries. I am sure everyone here has at least once been in a bind where they were freaking out and wanted a solution fast. I really would recommend you look at buying a new back for your play. They all worm the same so no need to look for a r800x back.
Good luck and if replacing the back sizes it please reply back to this thread. So that if others have a similar issue they can use this thread as a answer. Good luck.

External Antenna

I was just wondering if an external antenna would help my reception out and if it would be a good idea to get one. I plan on getting this antenna.

This topic reminds me of this!!
Haha good call man good call. I should probably just stay away from that lol.
Funny that link Mikey as after i read when original posted, did a little search to find lots of people had followed D.I.Y.D instructions and most ending up with a useless phone... If it aint broke don't fix it comes to mind

dropped calls/no signal

Hi all, i know this is a well talked about subject as i have done numerous google/ask searches, i find an awful lot but don't really seem to get any answers, over the last week i must have read hundreds of pages so please anyone who is going to tell me to google this problem, please don't as i have until i could scream lol......anyway, this is the problem i am having......
Hubby bought the HTC desire on ORANGE but then decided he wanted an iphone4 so he gave his desire to me, i am a vodafone user, as we have teenage children and the freedom/family packs are such good value, i wanted to stay on vodafone so i got the phone unlocked with an unlock code at my local mobile fone shop...hubby had never used it as a phone, just as a gadget to mess about on so we weren't aware there was any problems.... the problems i am having are these...i can't get the phone to hold a call, if i use wmcda only mode, its slightly better and i can usually get a call out but it will drop out if i stay on the line to long, if i use gsm only then i can't get a call out at all, the phone stays silent for a few seconds and then just drops out......on both settings the signal is fluctuating like mad and often gives me a x where my signal should be, i love the phone as a gadget but at the moment im not getting much luck with it as a phone.....a few things i thought may be to blame are
could it be the way the fone shop unlocked it??
i have used the same sim card (voda) for around 4+ years, could i need a better sim???
could it be because all the settings on the phone belong to orange and arn't set up to use on voda??
i have read on a few sites where people have returned these phones only to be given another one that has the same issues where others have recieved another hand set and the problem is solved but some people say they have no call dropping/signal issues at all and love the phone....im confused, i have been looking around the site and seen peopl are using custom roms and/or debranding the phone, could that help with my issues??
if anyone can help me i would really appreciate it ...
thanks in advance
emma......ps sorry for such a long post
If your SIM is 4+ years old, I would suggest that a new one might be in order, so at the very least I'd request one if I were you.
You've not mentioned which ROM version or baseband you phone is currently using (see Menu->Settings->About Phone->Software Information). Try posting these so we can see if you are running a very early ROM and/or radio.
Regards,
Dave
P.S. Lastly, divorce hubby for being unfaithful to the Desire and buying an iPhone!
lmao he's an iphone fanatic, he has the 3g, 3gs and now the iphone4, oh and a macbook lol.. personally i love the desire but i'm having a nightmare using it as a phone, i called HTC up on friday and ups have actually just came and picked it up, i have been waiting on them, so i can't actually check anything now, i wish i had realised and put the stats of the phone in my post, they said it will take 7/10 working days to get it back and i feel lost already lol....i am hoping and praying that they can sort the problem out, i have also requested new sims from vodafone and they are on their way to me also, so if i get my phone back and i still have same issues with my sim i will try the new sim, if that doesn't work, then i guess i'll be back on here or trading it in
i think im right in thinking the rom is the software, but by radio are you referring to the FM radio or to the radio waves your phone uses??
I have an iMac and a Macbook, but I dislike the walled garden that Apple has put up around the iPhone/iPad!
When I referred to the radio, I meant the cellular radio - not the FM radio, but the point is moot now if you've sent it in for repair!
Regards,
Dave
yeah i forgot he also has the ipad, i love that like, he jailbreaks them himself so we get all the apps, better than the ipod, which he has also lol...he's a total apple nut!! once i get my device back i will check the stats an post them up here straight away......if the radio is old could that be the problem?? and do the newer ones help, i had to sign a fom to say they could erase everything and put the latest software on so im presuming they will also update the radio?? if so maybe that will correct the problem, i had looked into using a custom rom before i sent it back but i was scared that if i did that then they wouldn't repair/replace the unit also i was a little wary as the instructions seem a little complicated
.......i have since sent my desire of for repair/replacement and have contacted them today (since they have had it 3 weeks) and was told it is ready to be sent back to me and that it has had the mother board replaced...has anyone else had similar problems who had had a new mother board fitted and then the problems have stopped??? im thinking that when it comes back it will be as useless as a phone as it was when i sent it off
thanks
As far as holding calls are concerned, the Desire is bad... much worse than any iPhone I've used. That said in built up areas I never really have problems with voice, but in rural areas the reception is very poor... I struggle to make calls in my house, which was never an issue when I used Samsung phones.
3G reception is a separate issue!
Well the motherboard is basically the phones guts, so that coupled with the new rom/radio should solve your issues. I can't see them replacing the MB just for the sake of it!
Let us know how you find it afterwards. Personally, I've no bother with reception and love my desire
well i've been expecting my phone back for days and it still hasn't arrived, i was quoted 5 to 7 working days when i sent it off for repair 3 WEEKS ago, anyway when it comes back i'll see how it goes and let you all know....could it possibly have something to do wiht the fact that its an orange branded phone and im getting a code to have it unlocked to vodafone????
(which i will have to pay for again now i have a new motherboard)

Wirelessly power on your phone?

Is there a way to send a signal to your phone to power it on? I know that the company Asurion can do this. It is a new feature now. I have heard about this here and there but never have looked into it.
Wrong section should be in q&a
from my phone duh
Maybe remote in ssh style or wireless adb and give the command shutdown.

Not possible unless the phone isn't really off. If just the screen is off, sure, it's very easy. Check out WebKey for full remote control of your phone.
Take a step back and look at what you're asking:
You want to turn on the phone, using the cell radio, while the phone and said radio is off. Quite simply, this is impossible unless you have the phone turn itself on to check-in for a "turn on all the way" message. What Asurion does is tag the phone and send it commands, but they can't do that if the actual phone is off and/or the battery pulled out.
You're cellphone is never truly "off" unless the battery is removed from the device.
There is likely a way to do it, but this guy **points thumbs at self** does not know how.
http://news.cnet.com/2100-1029_3-6140191.html
Granted its an old article, but still gives light to what is possible.
And to the OP, I know what you are in reference too... I remember reading a while back that if a powerful enough signal is provided to a device the article was about wirelessly charging batteries from a far distance using towers rather than things like the touchstone and powermat type devices, and the device is able to interpret the signal and activate certain processes, it was in fact possible to charge wirelessly from a-far.
Same concept would be applied, but it would require a downloaded application to run 24/7 on your phone (on or off), unless you powered down by use of battery removal.
Why's everyone so quick to say that this is impossible? If it's impossible, how come with some phones, when the phone is off and an alarm is set, the phone will power on for the alarm to go off. I've seen it done. I'm sure a similar method could be used.
There is no doubt in my mind that this is imposable. I have read a few articles back in the day and even talked to a guy that worked in government security one day (I was selling him a phone) He was a manager over a department where all they do is watch for hackers all day long over networks for all sorts of corporations likes banks and what not. (there is a whole lot more to it than just that) Anywho, When I found out what line of work he was in, I could not help but ask him all sorts of questions. It took him a while to answer even start to answer them. We became buddy buddy I suppose enough for him to shed a little light on a few of mine. When I started asking him a couple of questions about some things I have read bout cell phones he was very very vague to the point where it looked like he was trying to tell me things without actually telling me. I was only able to get him to clearly answer one thing. I was asking him about GPS's in phones. He basically told me that most manufactures put many different alternate ways to access things on a cell phone. (did not specify what) He acted like it was government required or something. (Which I doubt) but he went on to say that there is a signal that you can send most phones that will send a GPS location back to the phone even if the phone is off. After he told me that I asked him about powering on the phone itself or powering on a direct (call) connection without the phone even coming on. (I have ready some pretty weird things) he basically was like "look there is no way around anything unless the battery is out of the phone, that's all I'm going to say" And I was all like "ok man". I also work for a phone company. Which is where I heard about Asurions new features. One of them which they claim, can wirelessly turn a phone on if it is off and the battery is not dead and call it for you or located it if you have lost it.
Which is basically why I am here asking these questions.

What's the point of this anyways. I never turn my phone off, there is no need to.
This is for when you might have lost your phone or if someone stole it and had it off.

Are you really trying to make fun of me?
Your the guy that bought an EVO from a dude that claimed he got it at best buy without checking the ESN. Then you come on the boards and ask how to activate it because it's not working. Then you start a whole new post asking if you can flash an EVO that has been flashed to cricket, back to sprint..... go away dude.
No relevant knowledge to post but i sure as hell want somebody to check into it.
Im expecting a tutorial by the end of this week. Guys get to work!!!!!!!

The phone is not off then. It's asleep. Big difference. Here's a simple test. The night before an important job interview/test at school/whatever, set an alarm. Hold the power button and choose "Power Off" from the menu. Go to sleep. See what happens.

[Q] anyone interested?

Alright so im making this thread to ask if anyone is interested in a tutorial that tells you how to get rid of the squeakiness of the back on the incredible, and give it a more solid feel without messing with the digitizer. I remember reading some people having problems from the pressure from tape in the casing, which would mess up or cause there digitizer to go funky (like it would type in certain places or type something else or it wouldn't respond in certain areas to touch)
im just asking first so i don't go in depth and all that for nothing and its like 12 am and i need some sleep for tonight.

Alright then give me some time to get to a laptop so I can have some decent typeing speed and so I don't have to use the android browser on xda, and I will get right on it, might be later though but I promise I will get it up by tommarow, hopefully it doesn't slip my mind or I will look like an idiot but I will try my best to remember at the moment I must visit best buy to get my headphones replaced, left ear piece went out.
Ok then. I can find the post I put up. I guess I have to write it again then ok I will have to later after school then
Oh wait nvm its in the wrong thread I can't fix this right now though

The "battery bug"?

I recently got my Droid Incredible and while researching I came across many topics on google about the "battery bug" in which various sites and forum posts report that the dinc doesn't charge all the way when it is turned on. There have been many supposed workarounds to get around the issue, which you guys probably already know, mostly involves turning off the phone after the phone reports that it is charged to 100%.
In any case, I was searching around this board and didn't find to much topics about this here, granted I only searched up to February. Does the bug actually exist or is it the battery management function that drains that falsely reports the 100% that I read in another topic here?
But suppose that it is real, are there any permanent fixes to this issue, such as through custom roms and/or kernals?
Sorry if this has been asked (a million times) before. Thought I'd get the best answer by creating a new topic. Thanks for the read.

Thanks for the link, I will definitely sit down and read it next time I'm on the throne.
Just so I don't completely waste this topic, I'll ask my other question here: If I got a replacement for my dinc, how likely is it going to have some bad backlight bleeding? The one I have right now bleeds noticeably from the top and a little from the bottom.

If that is your only problem I wouldn't recommend playing the roulette game that is Verizon's Certified Like New program. There is little to no quality control and I managed to get 2 Incredibles that were completely unusable before finally getting one that worked at all.

Wait, they don't give you a new replacement? I'm still within in 14 day return period if that makes any difference.

Hmm, I'm actually not sure about that situation, I would demand it if I were you. But I can promise if you get outside of the 14 day return period you won't get anything but used, and a little light leakage is nothing compared to what you might end up with.
