[Q] Animation slow down when opening app (from Play Store) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi,
Like the title says, every time I open an app from the Play Store (in this case, Beat Hazard), my whole S III slows down in a way where animations are slow, and everything lags. The problem goes away after about 2 minutes of sleep mode.
My phone is rooted and has AOKP_d2att_jb_mr1_build-2 flashed on it, but before this, I had LiquidSmooth and was experiencing the same problems. Everything was fine until I flashed ROMs onto it.
Thank you if anyone can help.

Two things you can try: change your governor/scheduler to more performant ones. Lock frequencies (if kernel allows it).

Thank you so much, it worked like a charm, and I was able to change the governor back without the problem rising again. I guess it just needed a little nudge.

[Q] reboot random

Hello,
I had random reboot before with my leedroid 2.3b, and I had one also 30 minutes ago with AuraxTSense, so I'm asking if the cause is the rom or not.
When he reboot, he's not hot, I see it reboot sometimes and the phone was at normal temperature (approximately with my hands lol). it reboots max 1 time per day.
So I'm tellng myself that's it could be due to:
- radio
- S-OFF
- one app
For radio, I try tu update from 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14 to 32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23, and I'll see.
For apps, the problem is that I would have not to restore all my apps, to see if one app cause it.
What do you think of it?
Thanks
My question to you is: what are you doing with your phone at the time it reboots?
Playing a game, navigating or browsing the web etc?
I just got my Desire back from htc with a new motherboard, it used to reboot randomly also. Now it doesn't anymore
Are you using SetCPU?
Could be an issue with the kernel, or how one of the SetCPU profiles handle the kernel during screen off (interactive I think?)
Or as fnotsje said, could be hardware related

Sometimes I do nothing...maybe it's due to an app services?
But with your old motherboard, it reboots several times per day, or like me?

What is surprising, that if it's that, i t should reboot many more times than one time per day no?
Thanks

It depended on the usage, if I used it alot, it'd reboot more than if I used it less frequent.
But I'm not sure it is the motherboard issue, because you're mentioning the phone is not hot when it reboots..

Yes and always only one time per day, just one time maybe 2.
I desinstalled SetCPU, it changes nothing.
What do you advise me to do?
Wipe and install minimum apps, and see if I've that, and little by lttile, reinstall one new app...test few days again...?, it will be long :-(
Thanks.
Your phone shouldn't be rebooting randomly really. It's happened to me when I overclocked my CPU and played a game. It didn't like it at all. It sounds like something has buggered up somewhere down the line. If I was you, I would try quite a few more roms other than what you've tried. If it's still rebooting then it would need to get looked at by HTC or by going through you carrier (if they do it). That's what I would do.

Because if t's an hardware problem due to the radio, it censed to reboot even with few apps no?
For carrier as I'm at Orange like you, I think, they could change fastly my phone maybe. I will try that if anything works. You think that if I do that, I've to find an orange rom? I'm asking myself if they accept an HTC even restored with RUU.
Thanks
I have the same issue and ITS DRIVING ME MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never experienced this with my stock ROM... so I firstly tried a gingerbread ROM... when it started... i then moved to a Sense Rom and still reboots occured... I'm now on my 2nd cooked sense ROM and still having reboots!!
WTF? is there a quick sollution?
thank you!
SO MANY follks seem to be having problems with [email protected]! Is there seriously no sollution to this or a common cause..?
had the same problem & is with HTC getting fixed
there are a few posts about it if you search - the only fix seems to be to send it to HTC for a new motherboard as some presume that it's overheating.
11 march still waiting on return of my Desire
I can relate to your issues. Mine kept rebooting when I tried to use the GPS. Like you I had mine rooted, S-off and was using a custom ROM.
After many tests, I downloaded a stock RUU, installed a different navigation app and once again, it rebooted.
Bottom Line: take it back. Its probably defective. Just make sure you're running a stock ROM. Download an RUU.

Ram Manager - Possibly what every Nitro Users needs!

Was browsing the Android Forum on XDA and happened to run into a thread about a program called Ram Manager. Its getting pretty much rave reviews in the thread and market so I decided to give it a try. I don't want to get ahead of myself but my Nitro is seeming to run much better with it. Just thought I would pass it along to my fellow Nitro users to see if you guys think it makes your phone better. There is a paid and free version on the market at
https://market.android.com/details?...WFydHByb2plY3RzLlJBTU9wdGltaXphdGlvbkZyZWUiXQ..
The thread on XDA can be found here

UPDATE: Ram Manager requires ROOT
I have no connection with this developer and just want to pass a possible lag fix down to the community.
What the heck, $2 wasn't going to kill me, so I bought it.
Only been running it about 10 minutes but I've been opening and switching back and forth to my most commonly used apps and so far it's been pretty much instantaneous. So far so good!
Thats what I thought also. Posted here because I wanted to make sure I wasn't nuts. I bought it too. Like to support the devs here.
guys is this something you have to start up manually after each reboot? i restarted after an install and didn't notice it running in my app manager... thanks!
ive got it running, seems ok. i think at this stage we're dealing in millisecond differences, lolz.
i think i saw a bigger difference in things when i installed juice defender ultimate and set it up properly.

You do not have to start it up after each reboot. It adjusts memory scheduling parameters and they are saved after each change made.

i installed it, ran it, restarted phone and its not running. so yeah i guess we have to start it everytime when the phone boots up, unless someone with more expertise can answer this.

Ram Manager changes memory settings on your phone (memory scheduler settings that prioritize certain appliciations and set the timeouts for applications before they are cleared out of ram) that persist through reboot. When you change your ringtone, do you expect to see a ringtone service running after every reboot?
You guys are so spoiled! The phone is lightning fast (as soon as you get rid of the laggy stock launcher). How much more fast do you need to be satisfied?
/me gonna try it now too...
thought on this so far? how are y'all figuring out if it makes an impact or not? i've been running it for several days now and disabled it this morning to see if i notice a diff

Ram Manager is executed After Startup, but all it needs to do is change memory settings, then it ends.
i've been trying to confirm that it *kills* apps that are running that are not being used. have several running all morning that haven't been used.

[Q] Sometimes Screen Doesn't Come Up

Hi,
Sometimes when i click Home button Middle-Bottom of the screen.
physical buttons's Backlight turning on but screen doesn't come up.
I have to try at least 5-6 more times for screen to show up.
What is wrong with my phone ?
It's just sometimes really annoying..
Thank you for reading.

Seems like extreme lag to me. The next time it happens check with a program (like OS monitor) the cpu usage. The situation that you described happened to me once, the MtpApp process was using 100% cpu and i couldn't use my phone properly until i rebooted it.
I faced a similar issue on a Xperia Ray
Its hardware i guess, flashing stock didnt work for me
What i say is you should flash stock FW
Thank you for all those answers !
I'm using DoomKernel 2.32.9 ( I Guess it's 19v )
2.3.7 Modded GB Deluxe Edition ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533332 )
It was happening more before i started using Modded GB Deluxe Edition.
But it is still happening, and still a lot annoying..
Thank you for reading.
Best Regards.
If your using a program like SetCPU or no-frills cpu control make sure that the minimum clock frequency is not set to 122MHz. Try set it to atleast 245MHz. I tried setting the "screen off" CPU to the minimum on SetCPU before in the hope to get more battery life, but whenever I wanted to wake the phone there would be a 2-3 second lag before the screen showed up. I hope this helps.
I guess this will work.
remove your SD card, connect it to a PC & format it, Insert it back.
@adielee
I wasn't using anything like SetCPU back than. So it can't be the problem.
Thank you for your answer.
@Kajendran
Okay, will try it. Sounds like a good idea.
But why is this hapening ?

Maybe you can try flashing the stock kernel to test? i tried flashing a non-stock kernel a few times before and results were mixed and never perfect for me (don't really know why). Sometimes it would randomly glitch and the screen would turn black for about 1/2 a second or something. Wifi would sometimes be intermittent despite flashing the modules for some as well.
I'm not experienced enough to fully understand but I'm thinking that it could be a regional thing? I mean, how signals differ between regions?
So.......
Did it work........

[Q] s3 stuttering/twitching

I have tried searching for this problem but I must be using the wrong terms... so sorry in advance if I missed a post that addressed this issue.
My sprint S3 does this twitchy/glitching thing on every touchwhiz based jellybean rom (does not do it on TW ICS ROMS) I have tried. It basically makes it nearly impossible to do sliding animations, IE it can actually get stuck and start flashing halfway between screens, or when pulling down the top menu, however you can open new programs just fine if you are already on the right screen for them. Luckily it does not do this all the time, but when it happens it keeps doing for 10 minutes or so and its annoying as hell.
I figured this must be a rare issue even though it effects both my wifes phone and mine, since I have never read anything about it, however I just got a new replacement phone and it does the exact same thing, even on dead stock TW JB ROM.
Oddly enough I discovered last night that if I turn on my screen filter app it stops completely, but it starts right back up when I turn off screen filter..... any ideas how to fix this?
Try grabbing cache clear from the play store and set it to run every 12 hours. It helped my phone a good bit.

So I changed the ROM, Its weird that its happening on a Stock ROM, any suspicious app?

Root or stay stock?

There are some cool features tied in with touch wizard specific to our pen capability. If you go custom you may lose that. So I would look more at rooting like such. Do I want root to bypass tethering lockdown from the vendor or to make backups with Titainium? Do I really need to overclock or undervolt? Do a new ROM's features negate the potential loss of pen related features

Im rooted running stock, tried jedirom 10 and had to pull the battery after every phone call. Still havent gotten an answer as to why this was happening. Went back to stock rooted and done with custom roms until this gets ironed out.....on a positive note, that jedi 10 with that kernel was flying and im very disappointed that I couldnt stick with it as it has awsome features.

I was running stock rooted since I got my phone late last December. But today I finally decided to run a custom rom and jedi 10 was it. Flashed with no problems and do not see the problem you have. The rom is really nice. Here are some features I would suggest rooting for:
1. Free wifi tethering (it's a must for me since T-mobile charges $15 for me to use data that I'm already paying for).
2. Wifi calling (good option to have in case I do not have signals) - the jedi 10 rom offers this.
3. Multi-windown (any app) - a cool feature. I don't think I will use it much though. But it's good to use to show off.
4. Samsung keyboard with auto-correct. I wanted to keep the samsung keyboard so that I can use the s-pen sometimes. But the jedi rom has the auto-keyboard switcher embedded.
??????
I rooted my phone I think but now I dont know what to do next! How do I pick a rom and where do I go to pick a rom or download one? Also what are kernals and overclicking?

I was stock until about 3 days ago. I moved into the Jedi ROM. I used CWM, the non-touch version. I don't know if I'm old school or worried about a non responsive screen but eh.
Originally I'd just thought to stay stock and not rooted so I could get OTA'S. Though with a ROM, I'm already miles ahead of the game.
As another person stated, using the tethering has really been good for me. I'm paying $70 a month, $15 more for the hot spot would of been ridiculously overkill.
Also, I've never seen or witnessed a phone become so buttery smooth and perform so well. I'm happy. ^_^
Just make sure you do back ups through TiBu and do nandroids.

I rooted, went to Jedi ROM, but had issues, like screen tearing, slow response (probably aggressive underclocking) and some other weirdness. Went to Tweaked ROM, and had to pull battery after using CNN app for 5 minutes. Also phone is very slow to wake. Turning screen off makes music player unusable. I think I should go to stock, but I would love to have TSM Parts thing on it. Wonder if there's a way to install it.

This would likely be better off reported in the Tweaked thread...
But, w/ the CNN freeze up (was this an app or website? Reading text or watching video/listening to audio?) was there any FC at all? What kernel were you using? What version of Tweaked were you running, and what sort of options did you have installed? A logcat of such an issue would be immensely helpful Also - were you charging the phone and have the MIUI battery bar active? On other phones I've experienced issues w/ video playback and that combo.
Turning screen off makes music player unusable - what do you mean? The long-press volume controls weren't working? The music stops? What app were you using to listen to music?
Very slow to wake - is there anything more specific you can offer here? Like an amount of time it takes to wake? That really shouldn't differ from stock at all - and there will always be a bit of lag there (though I never have anything more than a second or so).
And fwiw TSMParts is regrettably not an independently functional sort of apk. It requires a bunch of other edits throughout aspects of /system to actually work. But man that would be nifty
Fyi...noting what I said before, I am currently running one of Tesh's rooted stock ROMs for the international version. I can run backups, do tethering (no carrier lockdown for international), and run another kernel if I wish. It also allows me to use some of the Exposed installer tweaks to keep the Note2 touchwiz benefits and still use things like per app resultions and all apps in multiwindow.

I didn't really so a lot of troubleshooting. It was a CNN app. I pushed Back button from an article and got a black screen only with top bar active. Pushed power button, screen turned off. Then it stayed off. Had to do a battery pull. Not charging, no MIUI battery bar.
As for music, turning off the screen makes it stutter and slow down. Turning screen back on fixed the issue. I am guessing with screen off, clock rate is way too low to support music playback.
Very slow to wake could mean 2-3 seconds after I push the power or home button. Same thing with phonecalls. I can hear the phone ring but screen would stay black. 2-3 seconds later I can finally see who's calling.
I guess I can resolve most of these issues by tweaking clock rates, just wish I had time to read up on it.
Edit: Forgot to mention, I am on 1.4. Downloaded and flashed yesterday.

Hmm... my thoughts:
- That may have just been wonkiness in the CNN app - not sure if anything I did could impact something in the way you described (but of course I could be wrong).
- Yeah that is way slow - and uncharacteristic from my experiences at least
- That plus the music issue makes me wonder - are you just using the stock kernel? If so you can't do much in the way of clock rate tweaking, but I also find it curious as I've heard little in the way of issues regarding the stock kernel.
- Did you do a full data wipe before installing?
Regardless - I am sorry to hear about the poor outcome - feel free to PM me if you want any suggestions/help troubleshooting. I'm not the best at it (especially remotely), but I'll try
Sorry for the off-topic stuff OP!
The question doesn't make sense.
Rooting just means you unlock the root account on the phone to have superuser access. This is required by some useful apps (ProxyDroid, Paragon NTFS & HFS+ which lets you mount any USB stick or hard drive using an OTG cable, backup programs...). You can very well keep the stock firmware and just root it, which is what I ended up doing on the Note II.
On my previous Galaxy S2 CM10 was working like a champ, so I figured I would try it on the Note II... I think at this point it's a total disaster and completely unusable, just not ready for prime time. Bluetooth is completely broken, the camera doesn't work, the video driver has problems, and most of all you lose a lot of the cool things you get with the stock firmware (multi-windows, stylus-specific features, etc...). Good enough if you're contributing to the ROM development and testing for bugs and missing features, but painfully not ready for prime time. The big problem is that you just don't know what feature will break next and will let you down right when you need it.
So for me, it's stock until CM10.1 goes RC. But of course I rooted it because I want to be able to use some apps that require rooting.
Note that some Samsung apps (Readers Hub) detect SuperSU and refuse to run. Uninstall SuperSU and use Superuser instead, and use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to temporarily unroot the phone if you need to use them.
Rooted on Stock Rom is the way to go.
I stay on stock ROM for Wi-Fi calling, but I had it rooted in order to transfer application data.
Backup your efs as well, because there has been several people that have lost their imei.
