Cannot find correct files to root E4GT D710 in ODIN... (ICS 4.0.4) see screeshot... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi I am a long time user and developer for windows mobile devices (WM5/WM6), and have switched over to android for many years now... but just now am having the time to explore cooking with android, using ADK, rooting androids, etc... So i thought id wait on doing anything serious with my SIII and note2, and for now im working on my epic touch 4g.... I have most of all the software i need for windows and for the actual process of flashing, rooting, cooking, etc, but I CANNOT FIND THE CORRECT FILES TO USE IN ODIN TO ROOT MY DEVICE. AND I AM NOT SURE THE BEST WAY TO TELL WHICH VERSIONS OF RADIOS/ROMS/KERNELS/BL'S ARE INTERCHANGEABLE AS WELL.... BELOW IS A LIST OF ALL OF MY DEVICES HW/FW VERSIONS FOR REFERECE... (RUNNING ICS 4.0.4). COULD SOMEONE WITH MORE ANDROID EXPERIENCE PLEASE CHIME IN AND LET ME KNOW WHICH FILES I NEED TO USE IN ODIN TO ROOT THIS EPIC TOUGH 4G FOR ICS 4.0.4? id appreciate any help bc im anxious to check out some roms and start on cooking a few myself... thanks.

(btw i have tried two files so far but once they were flashed it gave me the yellow triangle and displayed as a gti900 model, and never went past splash screen... although the forum suggested they would work
I realize this seems elementary (especially being that I was quite proficient when I used to build WM roms, but android is a different animal and I want to start off right since i plan to start cooking again.... Sorry if this is silly to some, but it wouls really help me out... thanks
thank you all for any advice to help me get goin on this again, i miss doin this!!!

You might wanna ask a mod to move this to the Q&A section before the ib4tl folks start in on ya...
Yea, like posted above you can use a full restore rooted odin or one_click to get root. Assuming you didn't bone the phone with the files you tried.

good idea... and it hasnt bricked it (yet)
Yes, i think your right, if the mods wanna move this to Q&A, please feel free to do so... dont wanna get anyone strted on that rant, lol... but no everything ive tried so far has just put me down temporarily and ive been able to reflash stock ICS from samsung using the .tar file in ODIN, thank god! i just cant seem to find the one that works right..

[Q] Info on EL29, EH17, SRF12, & what they mean

Not sure what these numbers and letters mean....
Mine sais EL29, so i only flashed the ROM (Blazer ROM 4.0) that had all the same information as my phone displayed under "About Phone"....
This page http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=716 has a list of ROMs, a few of which i would like to use. Specifically the new ICS leaks (Hurry up SPRINT, release the ICS ALREADY!!)...
My question is... is the "EL29" "EH17" "SRF12" and all those others the firmware versions? Modem Versions? What are these? If a ROM specifies this information anywhere, will i have to upgrade or downgrade to the appropriate files (Or firmware) before flashing the ROM? I have no idea what these are or what they mean.
From what i've read and picked up, i know that some of these things will have to be done through ODIN and I think I read that some other things can be done through CWM, like flashing the ROM itself.
I just need a little more information on how flash ROMs properly concerning what needs to be done BEFORE you flash a new one
Things I already know:
1.) Must install a ROM compatible with your phone (DUH)
2.) Sometimes you gotta use ODIN (Is this only for root? Or do you use this to upgrade/downgrade modem firmware or something, too ?)
Also, what other file exensions should I be familiar with and what do they do? I just want to be able to modify my phone with no problems and a collection of links and bookmarks for me to pull it off. I'm not trying to be a programmer (yet =)
Any links specific to my questions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

your looking for the epic touch this is the one with the keyboard.
But to answer your questions those are firmware versions that the ROM's are based on for our phone anyways.

Well, we can still help...
EL29:
E = 2011
L = 12
29 = 29
So if this is a ROM, the base version was built on December 29, 2011 (apparently samsung employees worked the holidays...). If this is the modem version, guess what, the modem was built on December 29, 2011.
So to recap, the first letter is for the year, the second for the month and the last two for the day.
SRF1.2 = Syndicate ROM Frozen. This is an older ROM, based off of EC05 (March 5, 2011), and by the name, Android 2.2 (Frozen Yogurt). I don't know if there was an SRF for the Epic touch.

I already petitioned the mods and the big mods refused. That is why Jay posted the Non-Touch stickies but the problem with that is accessing with an app you don't see the stickies unless you click on that subject. Viewing from a PC also has a picture of our phone with keyboard open.

[Q] Epic 4g update Troubles

Long Time Reader first time Poster !
I have rooted my phone and flashed my phone a bunch of times. All of them went great. When The gingerbread OTA came through I flashed back to the Orginal Build Number of Sph-d700 Eclair.dI18 and then updated the phone through the OTA froyo and then to the gingerbread. Then the phone was rooted and all was good for months. Then an update came for the phone that Could not be done because of the root.
Finally after months of saying no to the message of installing an update I figure , I ll flash the phone back to the Eclair with the tar and pit file I have always used and then update it fully just using the wifi.
Heres the problem. Everything went great and I am using the orginal Eclair again but no update has been sent to the phone for 3 days when normally it was instant ?
So I look through the forums for the Froyo update.zip and every link I find is Dead ?
Any thoughts on the next step ? any help would be amazing, Thanks

Use this video and youll be on the latest build of gingerbread : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTQ6Rn0FBSk
although i dont think its necessary to have repartition checked.. but as long as the flash goes smooth you wont have any problems.
Ill give it a shot and let you know how it goes

Hello! First of all Im new to the forums! I want to say that his is really great and awesome forums, people helping each other and developing awesome apps and what not, so Im happy to register here.
Now to ask you very important question me, how to root my phone.
First of all I bought my phone about 3 months ago, and I saw that rooting the phone grants awesome stuff, also Im new to all this Android stuff so yeah. Main reason of rooting is because my phones internal memory being now 1gb free, and since I have memory card which has about 10gb now free. I want to play big games on my phone, such as GTA Vice city 10th anniversary, but I cant because my internal space is less then required for vice city, which is 1.38gb or something like that. I can find all directory binding apps I need, but problem is I need to know how to root my phone. Yes my phone has 2 year warranty and I know that rooting the phone, kills warranty.
Now about specs, today I connected my phone to PC, and Samsung Kies said that theres update available, so I udated my phone.
Specs:
Model number: GT-I8160
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I8160XXLK6
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-1211243 [email protected] #2 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 15 15:18:41 KST 2012
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXLK6
Sorry if any typos! Please I hope someone will help me, I will be waiting for an reply! :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Help with flashing modem on att note 2

Last month I rooted my att note 2 and installed Twrp and the jedi X 13 rom. I noticed today that my wife's note 2 on the stock att rom has much faster data speeds. So I decided to check the baseband version and found she was on mca4 while I'm still on ucalk7. I'm almost positive that this is the reason my data speeds are slower but would like to know for sure. And if so, can I just flash the modem and ril file without touching the custom rom? And also can you point me to the proper files to flash?
Thanks,
Wade

Solved
1st, I wanna thank the mod for moving this to the right place. I had a brain fart yesterday and posted it in the Sprint forums. So thank you!!
2nd, I solved the problem with my data speeds and it had nothing to do with the modem. At&t had my phone identified on their network as a iphone 3gs somehow, so I was never on the LTE network and therefore wasn't getting the LTE data speeds.
However, through troubleshooting this I was able to find the information needed to update my baseband to the newest one without any problems and can confirm the Jedi X 13 rom works great on an LTE network in case anyone was wondering.
I love this forum and have learned a lot through reading and wanna thank everyone for all the good work!!
Thanks,
Wade
Great job Wade!

Hi guys,
I tried to figure this all out. I am on a Samsung Note 3 - i317 - Android 4.1.2 - UCAMC3.
I am in Germany from time to time and need to unlock it. I actually talked to AT&T many times, but those morons are not able to unlock it (seriously!!)! The last person I talked to said: "Why don't you just unlock it yourself, there is plenty of help on the internet". So I take that as a permission to root and flash.
However, I rooted it yesterday and I read that to unlock it I need the J3 modem. Now my question is, can I just flash the J3 modem, unlock it and then flash back to UCAM3 / do the latest OTA update afterwards? I have TWRP on the phone.
Is there anything else I need to watch out for? Please give me hints if I am on the right track.
Thanks guys!!
[EDIT] OK, so I just did it! I flashed the J2 Modem and tried the unlock. It worked! Just flashed back my CAMC3 Modem and everything is great. Thanks to those who work hard on getting all this stuff lined up for us dummies!!!
BTW your not on a note 3 lol

Your rooted phone won't get stock updates.
Hi guys,
HAHA ... yeah, of course I meant Note2 ... :silly:
Thanks for the hint that it won't get stock updates. I actually just found that out because I tried to install the OTA update.
So one last question for now:
I just downloaded the newest H3 modem and flashed it with TWRP. My system info now shows:
Baseband version: I317UCAMH3
Build number JZO54K.I317UCAMC3
Is it normal that build and baseband differ? I saw a screenshot somewhere else and the build had the CAMH3 version as well. Did I do something wrong or is that normal?
Thanks guys for all your help!! :good:
Your fine. Build is rom related not modem man.
Sent from my Note 2 using Tapatalk 4
Baseband and firmware generally read the same. ..unless you flash a different setup. ..
Modem or firmware separately from one another. .
The device won't care unless they are not compatible code. ..
Simply verify the files to make sure they are for this device and your good. ..
And of course you should always read the instructions for the files just in case the developer requirements changed for some reason. ..g

you re fine! Baseband has nothign to do with your build number. Build number generally means what rom base you are on. you re good to go. I think everyone is rocking the H3 modem right now and speeds vary depending where you are geographically but the WIFI data speeds are a little faster.
Thanks guys for the feedback!!
It's working great. Really seems to be much faster on WIFI. I didn't do speedtests, but it just feels faster.

[Q] note 2 root with build JZO54K.L900VPAMC2 TOOL KIT?

Hi guys I'm new to the forum as yall can prolly tell. I've seen a lot of great info on here and I've got a few questions myself. I did do a search with what I put in the subject of this thread and it only came up with one thread. Now onto the goods.
I have a sprint galaxy note 2 with android 4.1.2 Build number JZO54K.L900VPAMC2,.kernel version [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT Wed march 27, Hardware versionl900.09, baseband version l900VPAMC2.
Now my question is (or one of them lol) will that build number work with the root toolkit? I did see sprint has the 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 but neither of those android versions have the build # I have on my phone. Ive been trying to read a lot before I go rooting my phone and couldn't find anything on this. I also did notice that it has an option for if you didn't see your build number (or something like that). I need to know if this tool kit would work and what options will I have to choose when using it? Do I use the option that says my build # is not shown? I can follow directions and am no dummy but am a newb when it comes to computer talk language. So please someone break it down for me. Thank you all very much
