[MOD] Long press home = long press search - Transformer TF300T Android Development

Since we dont have a search button ANYWHERE, and the long press home does absolutely nothing, And it wouldnt make sense to remap a button entireley, i made it so that long press on home will act the same as long press on search.
Long press on search is the same as voice search. So if you have Gnow on your tablet, after flashing this mod, long pressing home will launch Gnow.
However, some programs (Screen on Toggler for example) and a lot of my own utilize this search long press function. So now if you have any apps that utilize the long press search function, it will prompt you with which apps you wish to launch.
Just flash via TWRP CWM clear cache dalvik and reboot.
Luckily, if there is an app you wish to launch that DOES NOT show up in the long press home function after flashing this, i can mod the actual apk and include this feature. Ive done it to a couple apps already and it works wonders i can now launch my floating calculator from any window or my floating notes
ALWAYS BACK UP FIRST!!! This isnt universal but it should be universal. Meaning, if you flash this on a custom ROM (CleanROM, Ultra Fast ROM, etc) and it bootloops. Just attach your android.policy.jar file found in /system/framework directory listing what ROM its from in the post and i will make it work.

This is still kind of useless on stock... If you long-press the home button and swipe up, Google Now will launch.

Actuslly, you don't even have to long press home before you swipe up. Just swipe up from the home button. Long press simply makes the Google icon appear before you move.

Download screen on toggler. And try sliding up I don't think it will ask you what to launch. I may be wrong though. I'm running cromi and I deleted some apps and nothing happens when I slide up. Plus I don't use Google now so I deleted it. Lol.

Yeah lol. I put it back on and you're right swiping up launches it. But long pressing the home key with my mod will immediately launch the app with it recording (almost like long press home on the iPhone launches siri)

[TIP] How to Re-Assign Home Button Double Tap

As you are probably aware, double tapping the home button will launch S Voice on the Galaxy S3. Unfortunately, Samsung did not include a way to re-assign this button for a different function if you don't fancy the S Voice app. Instead, all they did was give you a way to disable the hone button double tap. Well here is a way for you to re-assign the home button double tap without the need for any rooting or modding at all.
Step 1) Go into the S Voice settings and uncheck the Launch SVoice box. This will keep S Voice from launching when you double tap the home button.
Step 2) Install Home2 Shortcut from the Play Store
Step 3) Open Home2 Shortcut and configure it to launch the app of your choosing with a double tap of the home button. The app is pretty self explanatory and setting it up will be pretty straight forward. NOTE: When you get to the end, after you tap "close" it will ask you to set as default. Select Home2Launcher as the default.
Hope this helps anyone who didn't know how to do this. I am currently running CM10, and am using this to launch Google Now with a double tap of the home button.
Nice find! Is there a tho when single pressing?

Any idea how to assign double tap to Google voice search, like it was available on other phones on holding search key?

Seems to be Voice Search is not showing as application by default on GS3. You have to uninstall it using Titanium Backup and then install it from Market. This will put shortcut where it belongs and you would be able to assign it to double tap Home key.
If you have Apex Launcher, you can go to Apex Settings>"Behavior settings" and scroll down to gesture settings and you can configure one of the gestures to open up recent apps. I chose swipe down. It's not a fix for when you're in an app, but its better than pressing the home button twice or holding it down when you're on a homescreen. You can also configure the home button to open the Recent Apps dialog if you're already on your default homescreen.

There is a paid app called Multitask Shortcut which is an app that open the multitasking menu. So, if you combine that with this app like I have, then yes you can assign the double tap to multitask.

Ever since installing the Google Now mod OR removing some APKs as per the S3 apk guide, double tapping does not launch S-Voice...
Which is frustrating when trying to make a call from my car....Voice cmd for apps is enabled in settings, as well as the double tap setting within S-voice.

Well you could use nova to launch with a long press on the menu button. You could also flash cm10 instead and allow a long press of home to launch Google now. Nova might also allow home2 to assign an activity like voice search.

*Problem*Everyone hates holding the home button to muktitask or launch things
*Solution* Using Apex launcher (works in Nova too), go to apex settings, behavior settings, and you can assign almost anything to a gesture. I use double tap and set it to "recent apps". Now, I just double tap anywhere on the home screen and it brings up recent apps with no lag! This has made multitasking 5 times better and so easy. I can also set Google Now to launch by swipe up, swipe down, pinch, etc. I hate the home button for anything besides going to default screen

I would also like this to work with a double press of the home button. I'm on Ktoonzes AOKP.
Ideally:
Press once - Home
Press twice - Google Now <-- what i want.
Long Press - Recent apps <-- currently how it works. I don't want to replace the long press action with search.
I am running tw Rom with trebuchet and home 2 shortcut works perfectly for this function. One Gives me home. double tap gives Google now and hold gives me tasks .
Important step is to disable s voice in settings

A couple simple things I can't figure out how to do.

My phone is rooted,
How do you multitask? For example if I am using Chrome or the stock browser, how do I switch to a app without exiting the browser? I thought it was long press the back button but it does not work. And how do I change the icons on my lock screen? Ive looked through all the setting and cant find it.
1. Press and Hold the HOME button (the physical button in the middle)
2. Settings --> Lock Screen --> Lock Screen Options --> (press) Shortcuts (not the on / off button .. the word)
If you dont have the multiwindow , you need to update firmware to get it.

That IS multitasking. You're in the browser, then you want to switch to for example the S Note app without exiting (as in closing down/quitting) the browser. You press and hold the home button and select S Note in the app list that pops up. Then when you're done you do the same thing to get back to the browser.
If you're talking about dividing the screen in two and having two apps visible at the same time, that's a different thing, it's called multi-window and is done by pressing and holding the back key, then in the list that pops up, drag for example YouTube and drop it on the top of your screen, then do the same thing again to drag some other app to the bottom of the screen.
If you don't have the multi-window feature, you need to update your firmware.

OK. Forget about the whole update thing. I don't think we're talking about the same thing here.
Long pressing home = list of recent apps
Long pressing back = multi-window app selection bar
If you want a list of apps on your phone, you press the home button once to get back to your home screen, and from there open the app drawer.
Is that what you meant?
Sorry for my original post above, I misread what you said. I thought you were talking about the multi Window feature in note 2 which can be activated by long pressing the back button.
The multi tasking is when you long press the home button, correct. You get the list of recently opened apps. That's how it works and how it always worked.
If you want a customizable pad that's let's you switch to other apps on the fly, then I highly recommend SwipePad. You can find it in the market and it's free.

For me
Long pressing Home= list of only recently opened apps (not all the apps on my phone).
Long pressing back= does nothing on my phone when I long press it.
Long press home button gives you a list if recently opened apps, yes. That's how it works. It doesn't, in any version of android, give you a list of all installed apps in your phone. I don't know where you got that idea.
Second, if you want the multi Window feature (which opens when you long press the back button) then check OTA update. If there are no updates for you, then wait for it in the future.

Try a different launcher such as Nova. You can assign the button to perform the action you want. Plus, at least for me, a scrolling dock is great. If you get Nova Prime you can also add gestures to perform your preferred action. There are others that do some of that too, but I have ended up sticking with Nova...
Good luck!

From what I can tell it is the always running s-voice app that intercepts the home press and so it waits for a split second for the 2nd home button double tap. It is not some function built into the system that can be hacked to something else. If s voice is disabled, the home button speeds up but there shouldn't be anyway to use double tap unless another app such as one of the 3rd part launchers is used. Maybe some one could make a mod of some sort to watch home button press and activate on a double tap for those who don't want to use a custom launcher.
personally i wish a double tap went directly to a google voice search
This is an option in S-voice settings . It's enabk d by default, but can be disabled. I've disabled S-voice on my phone altogether, so I can't remember exactly where it was. However, if you hit the menu button while in S-voice, you should see a lot option that says something along the lines of "open/launch S-voice by double tapping home key".
It will make the home button respond faster, however it won't launch the running app selector.
But, you can still launch the selector by doing a long press of the home key.

Navigation Bar Questions

Got my G3 today and have been spending a good amount of time setting it up.
I am rooted and have Xposed w/G3 Tweaksbox.
I have a couple of things that still annoy me.
Is there a way to swap the behavior of the recent apps button? I want short press to be menu and long press to be recent apps. I figured out I can add a menu button using G3 Tweaksbox that does exactly that, but I can't remove the stock recent apps button, so I have 4 buttons there and I don't really like that.
When I drag up the recent apps button, I get a little semi circle selector with voicemate, search and quickmemo+ options. I have no intention of ever using voicemail or quickmemo+. Is there a place to change the 3 things that come up there?

Sorry for reposting this... Thought I posted in a different thread but I guess I'm wrong. Please don't crucify me
As a long time samsung user, I'd say try without the menu button and see how you get on first.
But you can change the swipe up (and thats a swipe up from anywhere on the navigation bar btw, try it out), using tweaksbo, it's under:
theme > ring pad
And you can either turn it off, or add up to 5 custom apps.
The recent apps button is kinda key to android, it's like asking to remove the home button. Maybe instead of adding a menu button, make double tap on home be the menu button instead? Then you'd still have your three icons, and wouldn't lost out on recent apps, which you should end up using more now it's easier to reach (as opposed to a long press on the home button on samsung).
As noted most apps should use the 3 dot menu button so unless you have an outdated app you use regularly you really shouldn't even want a dedicated menu button. Ask the developer to update the app. It's the way forward and most all modern phones don't have a dedicated menu button, even the S5 replaced the menu button with the multitask button. It you really can't adapt ask the G3 Tweaks xposed developer if he can add a menu button option as the G3 already has the framework to change nav buttons.
How can you change them?

Just use the LG Display menu in settings to remove that button and xposed to add other button options. I'd like to know what people use, I'm on a 4 button system. I'll post pics when I get a chance
I somehow managed to change them on a system level if that's even possible. I disabled all modules and even booted into safe mode and they were still there. I'd like to change it back on whatever level it got modified. And the settings app crashes when I try to change the button combination.
The OP did not want to replace the resents button with menu, but only change its behavior: short press - menu, long press- resents. I am very interested in the same setup.

When I drag up the recent apps button, I get a little semi circle selector with voicemate, search and quickmemo+ options. I have no intention of ever using voicemail or quickmemo+. Is there a place to change the 3 things that come up there?

In TweaksBox under theme tweaks, then ring pad. It let's you select one in the free version. In the donate version you can select up to 5 shortcuts in the ring pad or disable it altogether.
settings / display / home touch buttons / button combination
I think they are standard options and not something I've added in. let's you add/remove a button such as the menu button or recent apps. screen is wide so I use 5 buttons.

personally don't use program #1 the ring selector as it is accidentally opening all the time with use of the back button.

Hold the recents and thats your menu button. Thats a default setting i believe. No need for g3 tweakbox unless a longpress isnt what you want. Idk which model you have but the tmobile version doesnt let you add the menu button on the nav bar.
