Google+ on Rooted KFHD 7" - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

I'm wondering if this will work? If yes do I have to side load it? Any required lib files or extra .apk from google that I would need?
TIA

I know it can work, as I used the kindlefree app in the market to install it and other Google apps.

I would ask in the KFHD thread instead of the KF2
Kindlefree will work for google services, and that's all you would need really. I'm not even sure if you need google services, to get it running, but I would have them just in case, and since you most likely will need them.

Install Galaxy S apk's

Has anyone tried to install any of the apk's from the European Galaxy S phone? I am too afraid to try installing any of the ones that replace system programs. I was able to install the Samsung Apps program but it doesn't offer anything for the Epic.

I really appreciate the guidance given, as this is a lil differ3ent than the Evo. Now, when I type Su I am asked for a password...? Anyone know what this is about? I updated the Su and busybox from the market, so binaries are updated.
If anyone knows, plz let me know.. oh and after having a Evo I am proud to own the epic. It is a awesome and amazing device. I can't wait till the tab arrives.

[Q] Confirming Kindle Fire Root

Hi guys,
I've read extensively about rooting my new Kindle fire with the latest update.
After quite a few bumps and such, I managed to finish the rooting process.
Right now I'm wondering how in the world do I know if my Kindle Fire is rooted or not as I don't see any difference whatsoever.
Also I tried to copy the Vending.apk file into my system/app folder after mounting it as read and write but everytime I do it, it does nothing so I can't install it via the app folder. Does this indicate that I do not actually have root access? When I mounted the folder it said superuser granted to the folder if that's a vital piece of info.
But my main question as indicated by the thread title would be how do I know if I have root access? If I do, why is it not allowing me to move a .apk file into the app folder?
Thanks!
This Kindle Fire Utility can check for you.
So I ran it and it says
ADB Status: Online
ADB Root: No
Boot Status: 4000
Does this mean it's not rooted?
Or put it to a real world test. See if you can launch a prog like titanium backup and have root access granted to it.
This tool will also check for you.

Thanks much aoaleman! I used your app there and it says I have root access. So would you happen to know why I cannot paste the Android market installer into the app folder even after I used the Kindle utility to enable read/write? It's just not showing up to let me install it.

Are you on stock Kindle Fire software? It might have something to do with that, not sure.
Yeah it is on stock. So I just used the install google apps on the kindle utility and it just did everything that somehow I failed to do. It is right now working for me.
Thanks so much for the help!
I'm now looking for a way to put CyanogenMod onto it. Do you have an opinion on the CM mod and/or if it's even possible for the kindle? What extras does it provide or anything that's useful that merits getting it?

Well if you've ever used CyanogenMod on any other device like an Android phone you will know that it's just awesome. So much you can do and you have full control of what goes on and what you can install on it. I would definitely recommend CM over Stock Kindle software.
It basically turns into a fully functional tablet.
Right now I'm running GO Launcher EX, I'm assuming that's another version of a ROM right? Sorry kinda noobish with the vocab

It's okay, everybody starts somewhere.
GO Launcher EX is basically just software to reorganize your applications and how you navigate your operating system. But if you're using GO Launcher that's kind of a preview of how using CyanogenMod would be.
So is there a thread or something that lists our what cyanogen gives?

What file browser were you using to move the file? You must use a "root browser" to modify the system directory and some of them (like sufbs) require you to mount the system dir as rw before modifying.

Last time when I used KFU to root my KF, I needed to re-install the Superuser app (adb install C:\kfu\software\Superuser.apk) to gain root access. I use Root Explorer as my file browser. It allows you to choose Read Only or Read/Write for the folder you are working with.

Can you clue me in on how to install this on my KF to check to see if I am rooted? I've run the KFU already, but not sure I'm rooted.
Thanks for the help!
Did you run the root on kfu? Do you have the play store?

Websockets?

Is there anyway to get a web browser onto the kindle that has the capability to handle web-sockets?
I don't care if i have to root the device and install new OS system - would like to keep the Android setup if possible?
Thanks much!

I assume you're using stock, since you weren't clear about that part. You may have to get gapps to get it from the Play Store, unless you're able to sideload it.

Ok - correct me if i'm wrong here...
My android Kindle fire OS is likely 2.3.4 which is the GAPPS package I should download. It seems that goo.im is down - is there any other place to get this package?
Also do I need to root my kindle first as you are correct I'm using a stock version.
Thanks!

It's working just fine for me. If you're still unable to connect to it, I can just reupload the gapps you need to a filehost.

apk conflicting signature

Hi, I just got my new One X. Its not rooted and I'm not planning to do it anytime soon. I came across this: http://www.rujelus22.com/evo/
I try installing these apk's like a normal app but i keep getting a signature conflict error. I've tried clearing cache and uninstalling the updates but i still cant get it to work. I tried Google +, Facebook, YouTube and G mail. I wonder if there is a way around this.
Thanks for Helping
Cheers.

Hi,
I can't install Navigon Select on my Desire with CM10.
On the market it says: Your Device isn't compatible.
Can I edit the buildprob that i can download it?
What should i edit?
Thanks 4 Help
There's a program for PC called "Real APK Leecher". Download it and u can use it to download apks from the play store. Once you've downloaded the apk transfer it to your phone and install it.

It is the answer to your question. U dont need to edit the build prop or anything like that.
Sometimes the play store will say that an app is incompatible when it really isnt.
Using Real APK Leecher you can take the apk directly from the playstore without it telling you that the phone's not compatible.
From there you can sideload the apk.
Its possible that it might actually be incompatible, but most of the time it isnt.
You can get Real APK Leecher here.
