[Q] Surface RT 32G won't detect Type Cover - Windows RT General

A few days ago my Surface started bluescreening on reboot and I decided to do a factory reset. Since then, it won't detect my Type Cover at all. I've talked to Microsoft support (who told me to reset again, which I did) and reset it a third time on my own, running Windows Update each time.
Microsoft's technician actually gave me an idea of what the problem is: she told me to uninstall the Surface RT Type Cover Firmware from Device Manager, but it was missing from my system. I have no idea how to get this file back and the internet hasn't been helpful yet; supposedly, a reset or refresh will restore all drivers but that didn't work for me.
Anyone have any ideas how to make this work again?

You've got a corrupted image somehow. The bluescreening on reboot was a pretty obvious giveaway that something was wrong with the storage; given that, its not super surprising that it's affected the recovery partition too. You could try using somebody else's recovery volume and seeing if that helps, but at this point I would explore just getting the tablet fixed or replaced under warranty.

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your issues. I would be tempted to just send it in and get a new one.
But, here is the firmware you mentioned. Maybe put it into the C\windows\firmware folder and reset.

If the fix doesn't work, just RMA, MS has pretty good support from my experience.

[Q] Data connection issues.

I bought my s3 in March of this year, and everything was working just fine until May. It's an awsome phone and I love it. However, since May, my phone no longer connects to 4g EVER and the 3g comes and goes and never stays connected for more than 10 minutes while in use. I've NEVER even come CLOSE to reaching my plans provided 2.5GB of data, so I know that's not the issue. The phone has never been dropped, or wet, as I am always very delicate with my phones. I have never placed it too close to the TV...
I contacted Boost mobile. They gave me a long list of things to try. I have tried EVERYTHING: making sure the mobile networks is checked, preferred network setting CDMA/LTE, soft reset, clear browser cache, update PRL, profile update, software update, firmware update, ##72786#, and even did a factory reset. Nothing helped. Boost said there was nothing else they could do for me, and that I needed to contact samsung.
Samsung said the only way for them to find the problem is for me to send them my phone, and wait 2 to 4 weeks for them to revise it and send it back. That's not an option as I need my phone monday through friday for my job. (UPDATE: I got so irritated with this problem that I went ahead and bought an LG Volt, since I didn't have the money to buy another galaxy. It's nice but I don't like it as much. I'm still afraid to send the Galaxy into Samsung. They have expressed to me that if they can't find an issue(just my luck), or if they find the issue to be my fault(IE I put the phone too close to a credit card magnet or some dumb crap like that), then they will charge me not only for the parts and labor, but for the return shipping... and we all know that they'll charge me way more than the phone is worth.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if there's anyway to fix it without having to send my phone in to samsung? I have been told, also, that I could try reflashing the phone to it's original firmware and software, but I am afraid of screwing the phone up since I've never done anything like that before.

First off, Welcome to the forms.
Secondly, you came to the right place. On this form you'll find crazy people like me who like to do custom flashing updating all the technical stuff. And then there's section of the form where people just want a normal phone and just want the basic troubleshooting tips. As with any user will have to search through the forms because there's a high likely chance that someone already has or had your issue just at different time.
There could be multiple reasons as to what you're experiencing. First off I think you should confirm and verify that you will do live in a good 3G or 4G location so that any further test can be actually validated. Secondly if you're not being able to connect to data it seems that you need to reactivate your phone by getting back on the boost/Sprint network. A full factory restore with data wipe and then updating over the air with firmware, PRL, reboot should work. Make sure you are set to use LET, under mobile data, and that you have enabled Automatic connections to the tower. Reactivate the phone again, if still not connected, reboot.
If you're still not having connection and I think you probably need to do a reflash via ODIN. This is pretty much what Samsung would do I'm except they have their own proprietary tools. Here on XDA we just have great developers.

You could definitely flash the stock ROM and kernel to your phone via ODIN. However, the safest and most foolproof way to do this would be to download Samsung's KIES software here: http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
Once in KIES, you would plug in your phone to the USB port and, if needed, download any drivers for your phone. Then, you would follow this path: Tools --> Firmware Upgrade and Initilisation. This will give you a warning that you will lose all your stored data on the phone, and will offer you to make a backup -- a very limited backup -- of information on your phone. If you don't have any worthwhile information, I'd skip the backup and go right to stock ROM restore.

I download KIES onto my computer or the phone? The phone already has something called "KIES Air" on it, is that the same thing? And then one I download the KIES software and hook up my phone and go through the prompts you've provided, it does the rest itself?

No, Kies Air is not the same thing. To do a stock restore, you have to hook it up to Kies on your PC via USB. Follow the steps I showed you, follow the steps on the screen, and Kies will take care of the rest.

Ok, thanks very much! One more question though... does it matter that the galaxy is no longer activated? I mean, obviously to test it to see if it works I'd have to re-activate it. But for this process, does it need to be activated?

Without it being activated, I don't think you'll be able to receive data of any kind. In order to test 4G capabilities, you are probably going to need to reactivate.
But, to restore it via Kies, no activation is necessary.

[Q] NEED HELP!!! apache has ruined me

I recently read a post, I don't know where now, but it had to do with a hidden Trojan/malware. That was started in 2013... After reading, thinking back to when this really started affecting me Feb,26, 2015. I noticed some strange things mentioned in my service log from around that date. The post mentioned how it places a high tracker in some obscure app. Unfortunately I got the bug, BAD!!! So not knowing about this until I made it worse by plugging my phone into my computer... I'm sure you can figure out the rest. My everything is screwed now. My HTC one m7, is the only device I can use period, now. I tried to root, and couldn't. Then downloaded another root checker, and it said my device was already rooted. Is there anything I can do(on my knees begging). This has to be the worst inter-web experience ever. Any and all ideas, advice, similar problems, links, and time are greatly appreciated. Thank you

My phone is the only thing I can use... I have to install Windows again on my lap top... I have a new disc and what not. I'm just worried that he'll just take that over as well.. so phone, but I could use some tips in how to do it for the pc as well and if I'll ever be able to get my email. With my last ten years if web activity, Xbox one and everything else I had.... So pissed
for the phone, i recommend an ruu. in case that bug is somewhere on the phone waiting for another PC victim. It sucks that you will lose everything but its hard to figure out what file is infected and if you restore any file after format you run the chance of it happening again
as for the pc. if you can reboot to safe mode you can use a tool called Combofix. it will sometimes fix problems due to worms or viruses. I've used it many of times i cant fix it manually.

[Q] Help formatting phone

I have an XT912 that was previously my roommates phone and he used it when he had Verizon. I planned on using the phone for an Android TV essentially, since it has both a micro sd port and a mini hdmi, so I attempted to format it to get rid of all his old stuff. Well apparently Verizon, or possibly just XT912's have this sh***y anti-theft program called Avast; which apparently was created by a mentally unfit human being. I attempted a hard reset through the settings in privacy, as well as by using the buttons during boot up, and both produce the same result. As soon as it finishes formatting that useless bloat/adware pops up and lets me know that my roommates phone "HAS BEEN STOLEN;" HOLY SH*, thank you Avast! Where would I be in life without you and you're amazing anti-theft program! Well, after some careful investigation, and asking my roommate, it turns out I didn't steal his phone, but now I am permanently locked out. I have tried formatting it about 5 times, and still no luck. The only way it offers to get past it is to send a text to the pre-established number, which it conveniently can't do because it hasn't been active for about 8 months. I am at a point where I am looking for a reason to chuck it as hard as I can against a wall, hopefully there is an alternative.. Is there anyway I can root it remotely via a pc? Can I install another android operating system, or a fresh copy of XT912's OS on it? What would you do?
EDIT: It may not be a standard program to come on the XT912, but my roommate says that he only installed the program for like a day, then removed it, and never heard/saw from it again and forgot the pin..

My Note 10+ 5G (Snapdragon) factory reset itself and my SD card...any hope?

I have no idea what happened. I was cleaning up leaves in my yard today, went to pull my phone out to take a picture, and found that it had factory reset itself in my pocket, and wiped my SD card along with it. I have a lot of my stuff backed up, but there is a lot that's not backed up as well. I'm really hoping there is a way to get my data back -- is there?
A quick search on Google for recovery applications gives many options, but they all need root access, and I don't think that's possible on the Snapdragon.
I'm currently running a scan on my SD card outside of my phone with an application called MiniTool. No idea if this will yield results or not.
Any suggestions?
Theres an app called galaxy labs but dont think that would be much use I think what would have happened was phone in pocket pin got accidentally typed 10 times to then cause the factory reset you could try the samsung and google route to restore but might not have everything

Is there a way to disable the 10 attempts thing? I've noticed that this phone unlocks itself and hits buttons quite often. I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.
It's also possible that someone hacked your google or Samsung account and wiped your device remotely...
Not probable but I'd definitely be resetting passwords...

Yes. Under secure lock settings. It's off by default actually normally.
If your sd card wasn't encrypted you have a chance of finding those files. Just make sure you keep it out of the phone and don't write anything on it until you have been able to use a file eraser app to find them. I've done it before myself.
That sucks man, if you had encrypt the card then i don't think data recovery will help. Well here's to hoping you didn't.
Losing data sucks especially if it's years worth....I've been there. I had an old tool I used back in the day I'll try to find it again man that thing did wonders recovering images but videos not so much, did recover a good amount though.
Also, don't go downloading any and all data recovery tool on the internet....lots are bogus.

Phone hacked

I need help identifying what app or setting got me into this mess.
I think the hacker has adb access.
He shuts down apps.. etc
He is messing with the notifications.. i get ony a few. Sometimes they come in late.
I have made reset from samsung setting and the boot menu, AND I INSTALLED A NEW ROM (the one for my phone) WITH ODIN. Still the issue resurfaces.
I think my roomate installed smthg in it. He is on the house wifi and he is got a degree in networking (i think thats what it's called, we study in french in my country)
Please i need help.
If someone needs any further details, please ask.
Avoid the wifi network you suspect your hacker friend is on, reinstall the rom downloaded on another network and stay on 4G and see if it still happens? Also suspect your PC to be hacked...

I did format my pc but i have connected it to house wifi.. didn't notice anything out of order though.
I found out about the "Revoke USB debugging authorisations" option in Developer Options. I think it is working.
Today, since i made a new instagram account, i added a mutual friend. Turns out it was an old and lost account, and thats when i got the error from the video.
Fortunately, i fixed it by un.following the account and clearing the app storage.
I need to know what access does he have?

How was it compromised?
Understand if it was compromised it's more than likely because you left yourself vulnerable to attack.
A compromised OS needs to be cleaned or wiped... I gave you the solution(s).

Reflash the firmware especially if it is Oreo or below.
If it's not embedded in the firmware, it's being added by you albeit inadvertently.
Your Achilles heel is social media... don't be so predictable. Break the link in the chain.
None of the social apps should be running on the device, they are malware. At least keep them in the cloud.
Email must always be kept in the cloud and any attachments downloaded from it scruntinized or preferably not downloaded at all. All downloads are suspect.
At this point your data base is suspect as well.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.

Unless someone physically got their hands on it, there's no known way the Android 11 stock factory image can be compromised by a rootkit or virus. A factory reset is all that is needed.
The problem happened after the reset.

That is exactly what i suspect did happen. I often leave my phone home and my pattern is known for him.
How can i undo a modification of that level.
(I intend to go to a phone repair shop and install new soft with the "box". Is this recommended or is it a bad idea)

Never leave a phone physically unsecured as that's the only real security there is.
You need to have the firmware reflashed then be careful what you put back on it.
Change all your passwords and use secure passwords.
I ithink i this is the problem.( in the pic below)
There was an app called android device.. don't know if this is normal. So i deleted it and restarted and things are back to normal.
