Note 2 Problems: After Official Updates - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! Guys, Well I bought my Note 2 in November 2012 with Multi Window update already Installed. Everything was So smooth and awesome until the Christmas update in India. My battery started draining comparatively fast but still not a huge change. But handset became little slow. That I consider Negligible. But then come the Jan update which I feel was quickly done to rectify that "root permission by default issue" like in S3. And after that am facing Issues like fast battery drain like previously when I used to sleep my battery drop by 1% only but for same amount of time when I check on waking up it had gone down by 7-8% and haven't installed any new apps so far.
But the biggest issue I face is that Note 2 won't charge sometimes then I have to restart my mobile and then it charges again and it happens quite often. Like I will face this 3-4 times in between 10 cycles of charging.
My Note 2 is not rooted for now.
Also a issue I have noticed that sometimes my camera images becomes corrupt on its own. This happened only 2 times though.
So, guys do share your advice/views on this.
Thanks
Also I have noticed that some times blue led blinks on its own. without any notification. And Smart alert doesn't go off, faced this rarely though.

You can TRY flash the latest FIRMWARE using ODIN... I'm not sure whether it will solve the battery drain issue but you cab try, but I personally think it's not too big difference...
For the battery drain issue, here is my suggestions:
1. Flash CUSTOM KERNEL, do undervolting your device, which I believe will significantly reduce the power usage...
2. Try use ONE POWER GUARD apk, I optimize the kernel and CPU, and other stuffs (Wi-Fi, 3G...) It's available in Google Play.
3. (I think you really need this if your battery is behaving as you mentioned) Do battery calibration, download BATTERY CALIBRATION in Google Play, charge your phone to 100%, open the app and tap BATTERY CALIBRATION. After that drain your battery until it switch off automatically, and charge your phone to 100% again in off mode...
And I'm so sorry to tell you that you need ROOT access then you only can try these solutions...
I also had battery drain issue before, but I found out that if you use all my suggestions, the battery life does INCREASE!
I flashed Perseus Kernel and undervolted my device using SET CPU... Battery drains about 6-8% in an hour with my Wi-Fi ON, Auto Brightness, and without turning off the screen to surf the WEB!
After that, I found out that my battery also drains about 7-10% after a whole night deep sleep, when I wake up in the morning.
I found the second solution, which is using the ONE POWER GUARD. Now, the battery life IMPROVES EVEN MORE! Now when I wake up to check my device, a whole night sleep is just draining 2-3% the most!
Thirdly, I accidentally found the Battery Calibration app in the Google Play...
I tried that but no difference, since you only need to use it when your battery starts to have problem (Others comment)
You can try this, I saw many good feetbacks from many users that it helps...
Now, I open my Wi-Fi all the time with Auto Brightness. I enjoy my music, video, web ever day. I finished charge my phone in 9 am yesterday, and now, I still have 51% to use XDA app to write this post Amazing isn't it!
ROOT YOUR PHONE, IT DEFINITELY WORTH TO SAVE YOUR BATTERY BY USING THESE SOLUTIONS... (My Opinion)
TRY THEM OUT BRO! GOOD LUCK

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. Will definitely gonna try these. And will surely root my phone once I get proper time to perform this ..
Yep I also think that these are cause of new kernel which samsung released hurriedly.
Will Contact Samsung and see what they gonna say.
And I checked my battery drain today with wifi & 3g off, Screen rotation off, sync disabled, location disabled,All motion disabled, pen detection battery save on but still ate my 5% of battery that too in sleep mode. Samsung's New updates have lot of bugs.
will root my mobile and will see how it performs. Thanks again for your valuable suggestion.
Ps;- I have also added some forgotten issues in my original post.

A lot of people complain of battery drain with their latest updates. I'm personally not too happy with it, but my device still lasts a whole day. I'll give Samsung another update to fix the issue. If they don't, I'm going back to 4.1.1 because I never had any issues there.
I've done a hard reset and nothing. Next time I'll try clearing all data and everything off of my storage and we'll see. Hopefully Samsung will fix this.

Indeed Samsung's new update has numerous bugs, hope they will fix it soon. 4.1.1 was Flawless.
And I doubt that clearing all the data will help as battery drain will be related to the new kernel and OS.
Let's see when will Samsung gonna release there new update to fix these issues.

I flashed the new MA6 French firmware, seems many MODs and Custom ROMs are released/updated based on this firmware...
I will see how it goes, I still using Perseus kernel, and ONE POWER GUARD.
So far, the results are not sure because now I have only tested it for 2 hours...
Hope it doesn't drain much battery...

I'm glad you appreciate it
Maybe you can state all of your issues, I will try to help :victory:
I'm always sensitive to my device, every time when I feel that battery drains faster than before, I will always find out what was the problem that caused battery drains...
It's kinna pain in the ass to see battery drops faster than the first time I used the device.
So far, those suggestions that I've provided are my "BEST" solutions. (My opinion)
I will also continue to monitor my device after flashed the new MA6 French firmware...
I will see how is the results and share my experiences to you all (For those who would like to listen... If I am wrong, please don't blame me and I'm sorry)

Same with me, it pinches me a lot to see my battery draining faster than before. And even I try to keep Hawk's eye on what's gulping my battery but so far I ll only blame it on new official samsung kernels.
But Well I guess Samsung has heard the cries of people and today I received two updates(OTA) mentioning Stability update. Hope this fixes this battery drain and other bugs. Also, now they included Google Play Music App in the update.
And after 4 hours of the update, battery life, I feel that it still draining quite fast but will test it in 2-3 days to be sure. Will update after few days of usage.
And thanks again for taking time to share your suggestions

Looks like the update was kinda dissapointed... It is quite battery draining after a day...
But I did try battery calibration as my solution, looks like is kinna sweet.
I charged my phone until 100% full this morning 11am and did battery calibration, now I still have 72% after listening music, surfing facebook, instagram, and twitter, with Wi-Fi on all the time and Auto Brightness on...
Anyone tried anything else?

Im about to open thread but I saw yours so I decided to put my own issue.
I just upgraded my sofware from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 France rom. Factory wipe before and after upgrade and first thing noted battery drain. I would specifically note SCREEN ON is eating my battery. 19 hours max i could get which comparing to old rom was day and half with exact same apps and settings.Who faced the same thing and who managed to resolve it?
Please see my battery screen shots

Yep new updates doesn't resolve battery drain issue very much but its still better than before. During my sleep for around 8 hours, battery drain was just 2%, I was so happy but during normal usage, I still feel battery drain is little on higher side. I guess new updates do increase standby time but while on load it just doesn't performs like it used to be on 4.1.1.
That's sweet, you manage to get a lot of juice by those calibration. Currently Charging my phone and will see how it performs after a full charge cycle.

Well, 4.1.2 do drains a lot of juice from battery when compared to 4.1.1. Almost every Note2 has been plagued with this after updating to 4.1.2. That's kinda shame for Samsung that their new updates are battery juice guzzler.
And to resolve this battery drain issue you can wait for samsung to fix this in new updates or you can root and then install custom kernels and roms. And also please go through takumibunta's posts above, He shared very nice points to resolve battery drain issue.

have any of the ones who updated checked for sensors of movement and like that? i updated to avoid the SDS but after the first day I noticed that my phone was draining faster. I checked some things and some of them have been changed with the update (movement sensors is the only one that i can remember now) and now it last the same than before with some apps more such as xda app which it is said that drains also some battery
Hope it was just that the issue good luck!

Hi bro, I did some research before. 8 out of 10 people suggested do a battery calibration after flashing a new ROM. Well I tried and I think the results are good. I upgraded/flashed my firmwares four times since my first purchase. And I noticed it ate my battery when I flash a new firmware.
I did a battery calibration, it managed to hold more than 24 hours. I'm sorry I can't share my battery stats now because I just did calibration again to monitor my battery again so that I can ensure the accurate and 'real' result.
I'll keep you posted, let's see how the device go. Anyway, I still using a custom Kernel, did under-volt and using the ONE POWER GUARD app...
And 1 question, is your phone using all stock settings, ROM, and KERNEL??

Oh yeah I almost forgot to share with you guys.
I found an app called Android Tweaker. It is free from market. But I managed to get a PRO versions which contains full functions.
For details just refer the Google Play's descriptions...
Back to topic, I used this app to do some tweaks on the battery section which are increasing the Wi-Fi scan interval and Increase Deep Sleep Battery Life...
I will see is it able to push my battery saving 'limit' even LOWER. Now I'm still charging my phone. I will wipe my battery stats and monitor again... It takes time, and I hope it will show more significant result of maintaining battery life.
Try this app with CAUTION! It might cause BOOTLOOP or get STUCK at Samsung logo!
DO A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE USING THIS APP! JUST IN CASE. I HAVE WARNED YOU ALL...
See you guys soon...

Lets first all agree in one thing to narrow down the source of the drainage. Is it the SCREEN ON is the eating your battery?
To answer your question im in stock rom and stock kernal with cf root only.
I know there are methods by using custom kernals and undervolting and supported apps.
Honestly I prefer to stable my stock rom and kernal battery usage first to last my battery more than 24 hours. So basically I like to work on stock because the majorty of the phones users are stock.
One thing I can try is battery calibration. Can you tell me the process?

Ok.
There is 2 options for your case.
Since you are using stock ROM & KERNEL, with ROOT access,
First option, I suggest you to use the ONE POWER GUARD app... The latest version is stable and there is a battery calibration function in the options.
Second option, download 'battery calibration' in the Google Play. Just for simple battery calibration only...
I STILL RECOMMEND ONE POWER GUARD. IT CAN OPTIMIZE YOUR KERNEL, ROM, WI-FI, 3G AND I/O SCHEDULER SO THAT TO MAINTAIN BATTERY LIFE. IT'S A NICE TRY.
Here is the step (The developer recommend us to follow these steps but not necessary)
THE FIRST AND SECOND STEP IS THE BATTERY CALIBRATION PROCESS
1. CHARGE your phone to 100%
2. Click on battery calibration button first (battery calibration app or ONE POWER GUARD app), then only plug off your charger.
THE THIRD AND FORTH STEP ARE NOT NECESSARY TO PERFORM, I TRIED AND I SUGGEST YOU TO DO THESE AS THEY CAN ASSURE YOUR BATTERY ACHIEVES THE MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.
3. Drain your battery until it shut off completely, until you cannot switch on your phone...
4. CHARGE your phone again until full, without switching on your phone...
(Some people recommend to charge 4/5 hours to 'heat' the battery chemicals, I just forward their messages, I am not understand why to do that)
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH AND I HOPE YOU SATISFY MY REPLY...

You are welcome. I understand how it feels when your battery is draining like hell. I will also try new things. Who knows? Maybe will find out something interesting
I am now trying the new app called Android Tweaker. So far, after my device is fully charged, I 'Skype' with my friends about 1 and a half hour, using XDA app about 1 hour, 'whatsapping' and watching music videos. They drained about 21% of battery in 5 hours. Unfortunately I rebooted my device to flash something and my battery stats had reset, it became inaccurate.
Looks like I have to wait until next round fully charge then I can make sure is the Android Tweaker helps me to reduce more battery usage.
But so far, I deep sleep my device about
6 hour. And I made several calls about 30 mins of total time. And I did set an alarm, I was too tired and I didn't hear it. The music was replaying about 30min Haha so embarrassing Now I still have 53% battery and I completed my charge at 2am in the morning.
According to my rough calculation, I have used my note 2 more than 11 hours (Including all the activities I mentioned above, and deep sleep time) ADD: Wi-Fi on all the time, motion on, and auto brightness on.
Looks like quite OK for me. But I still want to take a few days to observe few times so that I can provide a more accurate result to you all.
THANKS FOR YOUR APPRECIATION AND I WILL DO MY BEST. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED BRO.

Galaxy Nexus spending too much time awake?

I've installed BetterBatteryStats a few weeks ago and have been monitoring constantly my battery life. What I've noticed is that my phone is spending too much time awake, sometimes almost twice the time the screen is on. I've tried different AOKP builds and CM nightlies both with stock kernel or franco's, but I always get the same wakelocks anyway. Of course I always clean-flash ROMs, and restore only downloaded apps with Titanium Backup. I'm currently running latest CM9 nightly with franco.Kernel r133. The pics and log attached are a few days old but I was on the same rom and kernel I have now. Consider it's one of "the best days", battery wise, I had since I bought this phone. So you can imagine what it's like in the "bad days"! Hope I can get some advice on what's the problem with my phone not deep-sleeping! Thanks in advance

deep sleep is a function of the kernel i never had a problem with the stock cm9 kernel but i always recommend GLaDOS kernel. There are a lot of great kernels out there and Franco's which you are using is one of them. i however always get the best out of my phone with GLaDOS and i always come back to it. Just like i try all the roms and always come back to CM9.
give it a try you wont be dissappointed
His problem is not kernel related...
I just took a quick look at the log and it shows powermanager service has been keeping the phone awake for more than an hour...
Will check the log some more when i'm @home...

As stated in my first post I've been trying different ROMs and kernels always having the same result... I keep getting this powermanager wake lock and I have no idea why. Along with that I'm always having the *backup* partial wake lock. I know that its cause is the data (settings and passwords) backup on Google servers, but I can't see why it should keep my phone awake for so much time. There are many more wake locks in the log as well. I'm really getting pissed of it. I really can't figure out what the cause might be. I doubt it's ROM or kernel related since tons of people are sharing my current setup and are not experiencing my issues. Any help you might give is very appreciated

I have the same problem as you and have since day 1. I've kept logs and used BBS and others. I have similar wake locks to you. I've never been able to figure it out. My battery life is OK, but not as great as others have claimed. I typically lose 2-3% per hour. Yours isn't terrible. My advice is to just try to forget about it. I'm convinced its a hardware thing that some phones have.

+1 to glados kernel. I've tried many kernels and always come back to this as it gives the best performance and battery life for me.
I used to have the powermanager service drain with Franco too but after a wipe and installed glados kernel battery went from **** to awesome.
Next time when u do a clean install try not to install too many apps at one go. Then test the battery drain periodically.

I would say its a trial and error thing. Try different rom and kernel combos to find out which one works best for you. Mine loses 1% of battery every 3-4 hrs of idle in wifi and that is with everything sync on. If I had 2-3% drain per hr, which I had before and its because of the powermanager service too, I would do whatever it takes to hunt down the cause of the drain.

I have the same issue as well. Is there a specific app or service in background running and drain the battery? I cannot figure it out. Will Google fix this issue in coming patch?
Thank you.
Guess I'll try with other kernels then. There should be a new CM9 nightly soon. Once it's released I'll flash it keeping the stock kernel and test it for a few days. Let's see if that will solve my problem. Otherwise there's plenty of other ROM+kernel combos left to try Glad I bought my Nexus! There's a huge developer community so that I never run out of options when encountering issues However if any of you might help me resolve this issue in the meantime I'd be very glad

I have tried so many combos although I haven't tried glados' kernel. That power manager service is really what I think is killing my battery life. The crazy thing is that I have a thunderbolt that I mess with. I keep it in airplane mode with wifi on and pretty much the same apps loaded as my gnex. With that I lose about 1%/6hrs. I wish I could figure out what's causing the power manger drain. It seems like there are a bunch of wifi related kernel wake locks associated with it. It would be great if there was an app that showed the exact times of the different wake locks and what programs are associated with them. Anyway, I appreciate everyone's help.

So I flashed latest nightly last night and I'm now on stock CM9 kernel... But the powermanager wake lock still persists... Left my battery at 92% while I was at work with wifi on. I went out for 20 mins with 3g on. In that little time my phone has lost 10% of battery all because powermanager service was running. Do you think it could be related to poor signal on 3g network?
Would a catlog show what's calling the PM API, keeping it awake for so long?

ics and battery life

At first my girlfriend had her Nexus S updated to ics and immediately we noticed a huge difference in how long her battery lasted and she is the furthest thing from a heavy user.
So when I heard that ics ws being released for our phone my first thought was i hope that what she experienced won't be what i do as we have a better phone right?
Well I am sad to say on a stock but rooted rom I experience the same lack of battery life as her.
Now I am no beginner to Android and have changed all sorts of settings available and nothing syncs on its own and when I unplug my phone from charging in the morning I will need to plug my phone in at night before bed as my phone will be completely dead.
I have to say I am very disappointed in the battery life of thr the stock rom and hope some good kernels make it out to help.

Have you tried to find out which app/process is draining your battery? Better Battery Stats can help you identify what is using up your battery.
I had a big keep awake problem when i first installed stock ICS on my T989D. I did a full wipe of the phone and formatted my internal SD card (after backing things up of course), reinstall the same stock ICS and everything works great now. Battery life is about the same as before (stock GB w/ Synergy kernel), which is about 30 hours with moderate use.
Try CM 9. I get almost 2 days of battery life.

Though I am now on AOKP, I had great battery life on stock ICS as well. But, everything is subjective. How many email accounts are being synced? Do you have Facebook / Twitter / G+ updating every hour? Do you have news feeds continuously updating as well?
I have to agree with the poster above. Get Better Battery Stats and find the culprit draining your battery and work from there.
biggest thing draining the battery is the screen.
you can literally watch the battery usage drop 10-15% in a period of 10 to 15 minutes which is absurd when its set to low.

Wait for kernel development. Its underway as we speak. It will make a significant difference.
Some battery saving tips:
- use juicedefender and set it to aggressive mode.
- use romtoolbox or other programs to underclock cpu frequency.
- also try using telus stock ics. Very good battery life.

I have a brand new T989D (I'm new to Android, former iPhone user) and got the ICS upgrade the day I got it (9 days ago). Battery life is terrible, I'm lucky if I get 10 hours of moderate usage. The phone also tends to run very, very hot. Sometimes apps freeze and all I can do is either wait or, in some cases, remove the battery to reboot.
I'm open to any tips that will get this fixed! I haven't rooted yet (no time). I think I will try those wipe tools and reflash the stock ICS ROM.
First post btw - glad to have joined XDA!

Stock, not rooted, my battery life is great. Something is using your battery up, and flashing some exotic kernel isn't going to change that. The stock kernel works fine. You'll want to find the root of the problem. Keep a real-time (or 1-5s interval anyway) eye on the phone's current (mA) usage, and when it's high for no apparent reason, you'll know that whatever is sucking your battery is doing it right then. That should help you characterize the problem. I've noticed when my WCDMA/GSM radio signal sucks, so does the battery life, so I either turn off the radio or switch to GSM only when I'm in that area. If your display is what's eating your battery, well a kernel can't stop that. Turn the brightness down, leave it on auto-brightness, or just deal with it if you need the display on all the time. But if tweaking and modding makes you happy, by all means...

I have the same complaint. The "screen" battery usage is just unacceptable, especially compared to GB. My phone has been draining from a full charge for ~4.5 hours and my screen usage is 70% and battery is down to 65% with hardly 10 minutes of screen-on time.
I use an app called autostarts and you basically enable/disable apps that start running when certain events happen (phone startup, wifi being turned on, incoming call/sms/mms, other apps turning on, etc.). Just make sure you do your homework so you dont disable something critical. Hopefully this app works on ICS. You'll be surprised what different events make certain apps turn on automaticly. Screen, data/wifi, gps and bluetooth are the biggest battery drainers. No matter what Rom you are on if you don't keep control of those items your battery will drain fast. Keep ur screen on auto, let it go off @ 15 seconds ( you have to be pretty used to your phone for that setting not to annoy you), turn OFF your data or wifi when not in use. With bluetooth and gps...well u know that when you use them your battery is gonna drain faster than normal...just keep that in mind. Its all pretty much common sense.
I'm not going to tell you how much battery time I get cuz its nonsense. There are times my phone lasts till the next day and others Im charging it by sundown. Then again Im still on Juggs n Darkside kernel and Im gonna wait a bit still b4 I make the switch. Also don't go by what other people say on battery life cuz if you might not get the same results on that ROM. Everyone of our devices is unique and acts different. Everyone user uses their phone different. You can't define "light, moderate, heavy" use so don't go by that either.

Bingo. Vastly different battery life between ROM's is generally BS. Every once in a great while one of these threads has merit but typically someone saying ROM X had "Killer" battery life is clueless and drinking the koolaid. Then a placebo effect takes place. And definitely someones "Heavy" use is subjective. If someone says they get a day out of an android phone they are not heavy users by my definition. It doesn't happen with heavy use. Perhaps the Razr Maxx or another phone with a very large battery but I've had 5 Android phones. If I get past noon it's because I am not using my phone that much and forget about a full day. It's never happened in the 4 years I've used google OS phones. Never.

SOLVED: ICS Upgrade Myth Dispelled - Factory Reset Does Not Fix Battery Drain

EDIT: Please read this entire thread, there's some good info. Every phone and every situation is different, however it turns out my battery drain was the result of my phone not hitting "Deep Sleep". The culprit was my SD card, if you're experiencing battery drain after upgrading to ICS try removing your SD card and restarting your phone, use the app CPU SPY to verify your phone is now hitting "Deep Sleep". Again please read on, amidst some trolls there is more detailed information.
SIDENOTE: This being my first thread I have to say on the whole I really like this community!
I never thought I'd be that guy saying don't upgrade to ICS, because the OS is so slick and fun. However the glitch with the battery drain nullifies it's value. My brand new phone, less than two months old will die before the end of the day without me making a single phone call. I'm talking maybe an 1 to 1.5 hours of use texting, checking mail, surfing, and my battery now runs dead before I even get home from work. If you go into Settings > Battery it will show you the break down of what's using what. At the top should be your display, it takes a lot of power for to run the ultra bright display and this is what I saw before the ICS update. After the update these are the numbers:
Android OS: 58%
Screen: 18%
Cell Standby: 10%
Phone Idle: 7%
Android System: 2%
The OS is taking 58% of the battery?!? This is crazy! The buzz going around the net is if you do a factory reset it will fix the issue, well it does, but only for a very short time.
I went through the pain and formatted my SD card, then did a factory reset on my phone lost everything, well I backed it up, but still was a long process. After all that I loaded up my apps, and everything looked great. If you I went into the battery break down Screen was back at the top and the Android OS was several rungs below. I was SO happy! It was worth it after all.... THEN
Imagine my chagrin I woke up this morning to a full charge. Didn't make one phone call, just checked a couple emails, and being only a HOUR into my day my battery is at 76%!! I look back at the battery break down, and there's Android OS sitting at the top, draining double the battery juice as the screen display. I mean this almost makes ICS useless, what good is this great cell phone if you have to be tethered to a power cord. WTF!! Point being, don't bother resetting your phone, it DOES NOT permanently help. If you haven't upgraded to ICS don't, we're all just screwed until they come out with a fix, and you see how long it took them just to get ICS.
I don't know what happened between last night and today, but my hope is some dev person will read this and it will help them pinpoint the issue.

Having a bad battery would not make Android OS use the majority of his power though. I have had this problem myself in the past and never did figure out exactly what stopped it. Running Blue Kuban now and my battery life, though never great, is reasonable. FYI, I also run Juice Defender which makes a substantial difference for me.
Running pretty much stock ICS FF18, just have agat safe recovery/kernal installed. Yesterday I left Wimax on all day and when I went to charge it last night it had about 28% left. I made several phone calls, many texts/whatsapp messages, reading emails and using twiitter/fb a couple of times.
The battery life on this is not the greatest, for example, I forgot to turn off wifi when I left my house the other day, well my battery dropped about 30% in just a few hours. I now find that just leaving Wimax on all day is actually better and pretty much on par with just having 3G on, I prefer wifi at home but if I forget to turn it off it kills my battery.
I was so used to Blazers 4.1 battery life, the battery lasted forever and I could leave wifi, bluetooth etc on all day. Just hoping for the ROMs to start incorporating the recently released source so that we can get better battery life on these great ROMS.
This is all known information. That's why you use custom roms that have much better battery life.

I had same issue here with custom rom FF18 touched by SGS3. Went back to EL29, FF18 is glitchy and slower anyway.
Confirmed, factory reset battery drain exists.
OP, why don't you put up a screenshot of your battery graph? The expanded one, not the one that lists the percentages.
There are a number of reasons why this could be happening. One of my biggest drainers on CM9 was Google login service, turned out the "keep this device backed up with Google" in the backup and reset settings was completely preventing my phone from going to sleep. This is but one example.

However bottom line, before ICS upgrade my battery life was great and my Android OS was not 50% of my battery power. I'm not rooted or have any custom anything, after the ICS upgrade my battery drains rapidly. I'm willing to do what it takes to get it fixed, however I do fully put the blame on ICS, I'm using stock everything, the battery is good, something in that update is screwing my battery.
All I was trying to do was give developers, a little insight that the factory reset temporarily fixed the issue, for 3-4 hours before bed I monitored it and everything was good. So hopefully this will help turn the light bulb on in someone else's head.

ICS works really well for some, but for others it renders the phone completely useless. I'm one that it won't work for as well. The battery life is **** and 4g connectivity is non existent. As a result, I'm back to EL29/GB until a patch is made.
I spent 4 days after teh OTA was released trying to find fixes, trying to make it work, using different kernals and modems, but had no success. I posted about it many times and more or less was told that I was doing it wrong.
On that not, good luck mate. Here's to hoping for a patch from samsung soon. :good:

That'll kill your battery quick... do you live in an area with poor sprint signal? Constantly searching for service will also drain you battery. What do you have to set up to sync? And how often? There are easy ways to prolong battery life on ff18 and the vast majority of people complaining about battery life have not taken positive steps to learn more and resolve their own issues... it can be done, good luck

[Q] Help!!! Battery problem makes me wann commit suicide.

I really am close to killing myself due to sadness and disappointment because of my phone's battery life. lol. I have a Galaxy Note 2(4.1.1 ver) and my battery lasts for 12-16 hours. I use it mostly for Facebook, Google, Viber and YouTube. I have other typical social networking/comm apps (YM,Skype, Instagram,Twitter) but I dont use them often. I have less than 10 games (Temple Run2, Angry Birds, Diamond Dash) but I dont play for more than 15 mins. I have observed that when my phone is NOT in use, it decreases by 7-10% per hour (sometimes 1% per minute on idle) during the day. At night, before I go to sleep, it is a fully charged phone and when I wake up, 25% of the battery's life is gone within 8hrs of not touching it even to check the time. I dont know if its the normal draining rate of the battery, if its a factory defect on the battery or the phone itself, or if it is the app or android system. They say you need to turn off the location or something but I couldn't seem to find it. My phone is just 4 days old, or maybe 5. Im hoping when the phone turns a week old, things will be better. Or should I try to kill myself now? Any possible solutions???
PS. Please try to use "simple" instructions or terms. I really am not good about technology.
Update to the latest firmware.. and then do a factory reset.. do take up back up before doing the factory reset. what is your screen time? post screen shots of your battery stats.. and committing suicide is not going to solve your problem.. but still remarkable that someone considers this over battery woes..
please say to us which apps are you using because there are lots of draining apps. sqich off gps brightness at the minimum values and so on if you haven't done it yet
hope it worked to you

It doesn't say much, I mean are you playing games such as need for speed or similars? is you brightness at maximum? I use the battery saving feature of the phone and I have to say that there is no difference in performance but there is in the battery I mean it last a more than in "normal" mode. if you already tried it at it still has that draining do full wipe and flash a new rom.
Hope it was useful

Good Lord! You wanna suicide for some ****in phone's ****in battery life? Come on man. This is a simple gadget, not your child or family. Use it heavy, have fun recharge it, throw it when you are done, then use it when you in need again.
Anyway, I think you are using 3G, turn it off if you don't need it, you'll notice massive battery life increase, but if you can't disable it then I will say get used with that.
There are two simple things,
With 3G- Moderate battery life. You CAN NOT do anything to increase it.
With 2G- Solid battery life.
PS: IMO, 4.1.2 has even bad backup.

It would. Well, she wouldn't care as much anyway....
Well op is right.
I have wifi gps 3g sync always on with close to his usage and I get 3 days straight.
Lol.
Overnight 1% drain max 2%
I think the op has got some reason to worry.
Other than that suicide is not recommended.

[Q] CM 10.1.2 Terrible Battery Life?

Hello,
I have had Cyanogenmod 10.1.2 for awhile now and i have only had one issue. My battery life has gone down dramatically compared to the stock touchwiz rom. I usually take my phone to school on standby and airplane mode and i loose about 20% in 3 hours. If I use the stock rom I loose about 4-7% in 3 hours. I looked in the battery settings and it said Screen, Google Play Services, and Cell standby took up the most. I'm thinking it's the kernel but I do not want to take the chance of flashing a new one. If there is any other solution please let me know.

you might need to re calibrate your battery.
also, check if you have any wake locks using better battery stats.
Here's a recent thread where they are working on similar issues. Won't be exact to your situation but may help you to track it down on your own.

Also, in the stickies, I suggest you read Woody's battery thread for a better understanding of some common issues and power saving tricks.

If you are putting the phone in Airplane mode, make sure the Location Services are off.
using themes and live wallpaper also is bad for battery. really bad!
i installed CM10.2 on my old Samsung Captivate and gave to my mom to use. Turned everything off and I'm getting excellent battery life. She gets 4-5 hours of talk time and still has 70+% at the end of the day.
