It is quite simple to enable as well. You can do it through the app pimp my rom (which I am not affiliated with).
Note: This only works for stock roms running stock kernals with root. Also the tower/network in your area must have it turned on.
Step one: Obtain root. It is required.
Step two: download pimp my rom app from the play store.
Step three: in the app go to tweaks and select telephony
Step four: on the bottom turn on amr-wb
You're done!
When will you notice a difference?
You will notice a difference on 3g/4g only. You will also only notice the difference when calling landlines or other people with amr-wb enabled. However other people will notice you sound clearer.
Warning: amr-wb will NOT be active on edge or gprs service. I take no responsibility for this working or not working on your device or any damage caused by the use if this guide.

For those of you who don't know, AMR-WB is HD Voice.
Do you hear any difference in call quality? Do others hear anything different?

How did u turn it on? I got into the service mod but cant turn it on?

Yes and yes. It's also enabled when you use wifi calling by default on stock rom. One reason that wifi calling sounds better.

Use the pimp my rom app. That is how I got it working. There is also a csc edit for it as well.

Don't know I do it right but you can enable by go to Telephony roll down then set on

I enabled it too. Call quality doesnt sound any different. I can tell the difference when im on wifi calling.

This is the command in build.prop to enable... I remember seeing this line since CM7. Sadly, tmobile is the only one to enable it since most have gone to lte which if I'm not mistaken high voice qual isn't even enabled until lte advanced (volte). Voice qual in amr wb won't be too noticeable unless the other caller is tmo and has it enabled or maybe on land line. Maybe all carriers should switch it on until lte advanced. Thank goodness tmobile is starting with it or so I hear.

Didn't work for me..... Entry is there in build.prop... I even rebooted by phone.. After pimp my phone made this change
Which kernel you are using?
Sent from my SGH-T889V using Tapatalk 2

Made both the CSC edit and the build.prop modification and no change so far. Currently running my own kitbash of the N7105XXDMC3 ROM and kernel.
Update: I finally got around to making it work a while ago: you actually need to factory reset the phone for the related CSC settings to engage.
For minimal hassle:
-Apply appropriate CSC edits to your ROM. (There was a so-called "universal enabler" that forced WB-AMR on all networks, leading to no in-call audio on incompatible networks, not good.)
-Backup your whole phone through CWM or TWRP
-Factory reset
-Skip through setup menus, check that WB-AMR is activated through service mode menus.
-Reboot to recovery and restore backup. Check that WB-AMR is still active, make a test call just in case.
Done.

Dial this number to enter service mode to check just fyi... *#197328640#*
It seems like you need to be running stock or something because I've been unable to get it working on 4.1.2 Jedi. Either that or there might be something we're missing. OP needs to clarify what rom/kernel/modem version he's using.

Updated original post. Please reade note.

[TEAM XPOSED] Various options unlocked (EnableCameraInCall, JoinMoreThan5Contacts)

Hi guys. Some of you may not have known this but there are a TON of configurable options on our GS3s without even touching or modifying any system files. You've gotta hand it to Samsung for making things so easy to customize with their /system/csc/feature.xml file.
Join More than 5 contacts:
Navigate to /system/csc/feature.xml and open with editor:
Add this in under <!-- Contacts -->
Code:
<CscFeature_Contact_SetLinkCountMaxAs>_INSERT_NUMBER_</CscFeature_Contact_SetLinkCountMaxAs>
You can put whatever number you want there. I chose 15 because it seems like a good number haha.
Save & close.
Enable camera while in call:
Navigate to /system/csc/feature.xml and open with editor:
Add this in under <!-- Camera -->
Code:
<CscFeature_Camera_EnableCameraDuringCall>true</CscFeature_Camera_EnableCameraDuringCall>
Save & close.
Shutter sound (currently doesn't work on some ROMs but the option appears):
Code:
<!-- Camera -->
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>false</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Simply changing this line to TRUE will get you a shutter sound option in your camera options. This file contains a ton of different configurable options for your phone, but beware, changing something in here could have a very negative impact on your phone without you even knowing it and may leave you scratching your head in the future if you completely forgot you've changed something here.
Is this file executed/parsed on every boot? Yes and no. I know it is on first boot of a factory reset device. It is also set to run on boot, but I haven't changed anything in here since my first boot to test it out.
If you do try this on an already setup system, please report back with results. Thank you and enjoy!

OP you may want to ask to move this in general. I just tried this on Verizon and it works perfectly. Great find!
Also you can remove unremoveable bookmarks in the browser by editing /system/csc/customer.xml and changing the editable "no" to a yes. Keep in mind you will need to close and wipe the browser data from the application menu.

CM10 and Skvalex Call Recorder?

Well I have been searching to no avail. Although, I'm sure I could have missed something.
Does anyone know how to make the Call Recorder App by Skvalex work on CM10? Maybe we can get a custom kernel with 2-way-call-recording enabled? I guess there is a kernel for Samsung ROMs but I believe that wouldn't work on AOSP/CM10
I did try the Android API method, but all the different methods either dont record, record in major static, or record my side only. Really need to get this working somehow, and stay with CM =)
Any advice would be appreciated.
The Call Recorder app was recently updated to support JB so I dont see why it wouldnt work. It requires his Alsa Mixer app installed and you have to select Alsa Mixer in the Call Recorder app settings. Im not on CM10 so I cant confirm.

I tried installing the Alsa Mixer as well, it does not record anything when in that selection. =\ Ill keep playing with it. I did not adjust any settings after Alsa Mixer installed, am I supposed to change anything?
You know what? I may be wrong about the AlsaMixer app. I think that was only necessary for use on the Galaxy Nexus which was my previous phone. Maybe we do need to have a kernel with the patch. Sorry.

Its ok. I tried everything and couldn't get one recording on CM 10. Its too bad because its very useful for me. Only thing left is to hope one of the kernel devs adds or enables 2wcr to the kernel.
Or I can learn how to compile a kernel in the next couple days and do it myself

please do. that'll be a major factor for me upgrading to a JB rom. btw, before you do any of that, if i were you, i would try the app called "Total Recall" that's what i'm using on my stock rooted. see if it works on jb?

Well I just tried the app "Total Recall" and another one called "Call Recorder Galaxy S2 / S3" made by the same developer. Neither worked. I went through the wizard to try and find a recording method that works. Only the last two tests 4 (don't know the method) and 5 (speakerphone / microphone recording) actually create a file of a recording but that is just static and garble. I uploaded a sample. I get the same thing from my call recorder app when I try different settings.
Hmmm I guess it has something to do with JB? Haven't tried it on stock as I went from brand new phone to CM 10 immediately. Oh well, good suggestion though, I thought it would have worked.
NOTE: If anyone does decide to download the file and listen to the audio, I must warn you its kind of loud and abrupt, so brace yourself.

Well recording works fine on ics. I just went stock rooted and recording is working fine using Standard API. I guess it had something to do with JB. Until they either incorporate 2wcr in CM 10 or a custom kernel for CM has it enabled, I'll stay stock rooted
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Some more testing results, I installed CM 9 and couldn't get a record using skvalex's call recorder. It showed the right notification icon and everything but stayed as "recording" after the call was ended. When I went into the app it timed out and asked if I wanted to close or wait. This happened multiple times.
So maybe it's something with CM?
Back on stock rooted for now. :banghead:

any updates?
The recording works, but with caveats. Select microphone as the recorder, and AAC as the codec. Volume is extremely low, need to play on a computer or over speakerphone to hear it.
what is caveats?

It's "problem" with CM as it does not have the Android API to record calls. Asfar as I can tell there are no kernel patches needed, just some modifications to dialer (framework).
CM9 2wcr
It works with CM9, I'm using MagikWizz and it works fine. I too am waiting for a JB kernel or ROM that works with 2 way call recording. If you find anything for SGSII let me know.
CM10 and Callrecorder
Sorry - posted to wrong thread
I am also looking for this and hope a kernel comes out soon. Wanamlite ROM for Galaxy SIII has call recording.
it's working on my t-moblie GS3, official stock jb 4.1.1 rom with the latest beta found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441643.
i had to install alsa mixer, and use the last option in phone configuration,
records both sides pretty good, with just a slight "crackling" noise.
the last 2 pages were helpful in resolving some other minor issue with the incall volume.
hope this helps
Skvalex Call Recorder with Alsamixer
I have a Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus Maguro with CM 10.0.2-02130821-NIGHTLY installed and it has superuser built in2 the settings. Call Recorder is detected, but Call Recorder crashes. I had a look on the play store and it says if u have Android 4.3 u need the latest version of Superuser. I added it and still no go.
How do I get it a add 2 the updated Superuser as if I disable the built in version, it disables root access.

Also, it looks like it has all the AOSP based issues. But I noticed you didn't mention anything about the camera. Does auto-focus work on this ROM?

Going to flash this first chance I get an working on hooking up the kernel on AOKP for us... Itching like crazy to try thus love some miui
ROM works pretty good for me other than a few things that maybe are normal for miui but I'm not aware of because of my first time using it. I realized just now that the browser wouldn't go into landscape mode while typing this. Also I can't seem to get the camera to focus consistently. It seems like it works every once in a while but it could have just been working on first use due to resetting a couple of times. I didn't pay close enough attention. Also, not an issue but more of a question, how do I enable root access? Faster GPS requires root but I don't know how to enable it. Thanks for the ROM and any info. Loving it so far!
Edit... I found the root access.
The system ui error , is related to the gapps i linked, i found better ones for miui to be more specific, http://en.miui.com/thread-2840-1-1.html, flash there instead.
Also i found a mayor bug sadly this will make this rom pretty useless for now, when you get data to work, everytime you receive a phone call , phonewill crash and you wont be able to pick up the call. il leave the rom online for who ever whants to try it, but this bug just ruins everything, and i did not notice it untill today, few hours after relesing it.
Great to see you developing here Magic! I was just about to download when I read your last comment. Dang it I was stoked! Oh well, I'll wait because I know you will figure it out... thanks for taking on this ROM and we appreciate what you are doing! If I can help in any way let me know!:good:

sure will, iv probably figured out why that bug is happening, you see when you are in 3g, sprint cant have voice+data(on 3g only, lte does allow this) on when you recive a call, so the modem is supposed to turn of data and recive the call, but instead what miui does is ignore that and leave it on, thats why phone is crashing mostlikely, il have to talk with synergy or shellnit2 so they can help me out.
so yea i worked on miui today, and still cant get ril to works properly, even though iv implemented most of the smali from our cm10.1 telephony-common.jar to miuis's one. im really running out of ideas, tomorrow il probably try and decompile the phone apk see what i can do there. as always stay tunned.

The available menus are determined by the modem. On my S4, when I upgraded the phone to 4.3, it required a 4.3-compatible modem, which didn't have the menu you're talking about. So pretty much it's "gone" as far as I know.

Oh wait, hold up. I know what you're talking about
Two answers:
The mode preference menu: *#2263#
The information menu: *#197328640#
Both of these also work on the S4 (I know because I still have mine that I'm about to sell). I can't figure out how to get to the old "band/frequency preference" menu though.
I actually saved these in my phone as contacts so I can launch them whenever I want. Hope that's what you were looking for.

Yeah sadly.. I know about those but the *#197328640# Just brings up debug menu in the servicemode. no umts/lte and etc.. just..
Debug Screen
[1]Basic info
2 NAS info
3 AS info
4 Sim INfo
5 CDMA debug info
6 WB-AMR
That's all i see. Can't go to main menu or anything sadly.
I know what you're talking about, the menu from 4.2.2. They either changed the dialer code or removed it from the modem. What are you trying to do? Force a specific frequency, or do the free unlock method?

No problem! Unfortunately, that method won't work since the Note 3 shipped with 4.3 I believe. BUT I can get you close to free:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.regionlockaway
This app (requires root) will remove the region lock and also unlock the phone. Totally worth it IMO.
The free unlock method doesn't work on 4.4.2 ROM.... tried it... N u can't downgrade...

Hi,
I had the same problem but I was able to go to UMTS menu by following this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734094
see if it works for you. However, I was not able to unlock it. Nevertheless, this is one step closer to unlocking this way.

LTE selection issues

Ive had this problem for a long time. through 4.2.2, 4.3, and 4.4 roms (various ROMs, including CM, Beanstalk and Slim). I can only enable LTE by going to more>mobile network>at&t before i can select LTE. it always default on WCDMA and it will revert back to WCDMA after reboot. any one have a fix for this?

currently on slim v11. using ATT LTE APN, verified APN are correct. ive been researching this for a while with no success.
Try *#*#4634#*#* then Device Information. You can select the band you want and it seems to work.

thats pretty much what i have to do. it defaults on wcdma preferred, but after reboot, i will always have to go to mobile network>search network>select at&t before it will stick on any LTE settings.

Dial *#*#info#*#* and go to phone then turn your LTE back on. Also some KitKat Roms have a toggle that does this that you can put in your notification toggles.

Scroll down and select...

LTE should fire if your APN is correct...
If not....reboot and test again....
If it fails check modem and APN settings ....repeat....g

I'm experiencing the same issues. I'm on Straight Talk. My LTE will not stick for long, regardless of all the methods I have tried. My text msgs were delayed sending and receiving. Straight Talk claimed that ATT had been experiencing outages in my area (Los Angeles), but I never called ATT direct to confirm this. WCDMA is the only thing that will stick, although I haven't tried LTE anymore in the last two days....

i am in the los angeles area as well, but this is not a recent issue for me...ive always had this issue....i know how to get LTE to work, just quite annoying to do it after every reboot, especially since searching for network provider can take some time...ive seen quite of few people with the same issue, but never a fix for it.

I'm on metro PCs...can get LTE with a t-mobile sim but otherwise just H+. Do not have the build prop line mentioned earlier in thread but willing to try.
My build prop has no such entry:
ro.telephony.default_network=9
Where do I place this in the build.prop?
