[Q] HTC Derise: No Rom No recovery.. How to install a rom on unrooted HTC desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI,
I have been flashing roms one after another first it was stock, it started to loop at bootscreen after flashing recovery and s-off.
I flashed Cyanogen Mod 7. It worked for a week and again looped on bootscreen.
then I flashed leedriod, which was working fine till last night. At morning when i woke up. my cell was off. when i started it it was stuck at bootscreen.
To avoid all this i flashed orginal RUU directly on MILDWILD. right now my HTC desire is unroot, and is without any rom and has no recovery installed on it.
I am unable to understand what should i do. How to install a recovery without a rom ? or how to install a rom without recovery? any suggestions?

Are you s-on?
If yes, flash the RUU in my sig using the PB99img method, then s-off with revolutionary.
If not, then install a recovery through fastboot.

How?

I fixed it with a random PB99IMG CWM. But if i tried to flash a recovery using adb and fastboot it would have worked too

No ROMs boot!

Hello.
Earlier today is was on CM9 and it runned without a problem before i had to reboot and then it didn't boot. I've since then tried to falsh many ROMs and none boot. I even tried the official 2.3.3 RUU which booted but now when i try to flash any ROM it won't boot. I can get in to hboot and recovery but nothing boots.
Any help here?
You just flashed an official RUU? Obviously you'll lose root, custom recovery and all because of that.
Check bortak in stickies of this section.

[Q] My Desire HD refues to boot with custom ROM

So, hi there.
I have a very strange issue with my DHD.
Let me start saying that I've read and tried all these guides:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_HD:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424023
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936214
But... they don't work.
I bought my DHD with Froyo and updated the stock rom everytime, last time with the new Sense 3 stock.
I unlocked the bootloader with the RUU from htcdev.
Fre3vo doesn't work, tacoroot doesn't work, the ace kit (and the lovely effen manual) doesn't work.
I have succesfully flashed clockwork img to recovery (fastboot flash recovery clockwork.img is OK).
I had made a backup of the stock rom with clockwork, and that backup rom is the only one which starts succesfully.
Every other rom i tried (cyanogen, miui, virtuous ics) is succesfully flashed but at the boot it seems freezed at the HTC logo (yes, I waited for about 30 minutes).
The weird thing, is what I did for having miui running on my DHD.
I downloaded the miui rom ZIP,
I copied the zip to the SD,
I copied the boot.img from the zip to my desktop,
flashed the zip with clockwork (after i wiped all the data),
reboot the DHD into fastboot
fastboot the boot.img I've extracted to the phone (c:\> fastboot boot boot.img)
then the phone boots to the boot image I've sideloaded via USB.
And this is working really fine without any problems...
Unless I had to reboot the phone on the road or the battery dies...
Isn't that a bit weird? What shall I do now?
I'm assuming you did re-lock the bootloader before trying acehack kit?

No, not really.
The bootloader is still unlocked at this moment.
Should I relock it? (why?)
You need to flash the boot.img for every rom, since you used the HTC dev method. Like above stated relock your boot loader and try the kit. As to why relock it, because the kit tells you too

Hey! That worked! Thank you so much!
I thought it was Clockwork's job to flash the boot (which is inside the zip), but after I installed the zip from Clockwork's recovery boot, I also flashed the boot.img with fastboot and now it works!
Thank you again!
If your soff then yes cwr will flash the boot. But because your son cwr currently can't. 4ext recovery does have a new option that will flash it for you, not sure how it works but you might want totake a look into it, as to avoid needing a computer to flash roms .

[Q] Can't flash recovery with ADB, 'waiting for device'

My Desire was rooted before with a custom ROM. I've flashed back the original firmware, therefore the root was gone.
I followed the tutorial at this thread but I get stuck when I want to boot into recovery. The standard holding power and volume down procedure didn't work so I used ADB to boot into recovery. My device rebooted, but I get the red triangle and after that the 'Can't open /cache/recovery/command' error. I found out this means that the recovery isn't proparly installed.
When I use ADB to flash clockworkmod recovery Ithe message '< waiting for device >' remain standing. My Desire is in the HTC Sync modus, I see My HTC in windows device manager.
What is the next step to take? I've bricked an tablet before so I want to do the right thing.
Are you s-off? Also you use fastboot to flash the recovery, not adb.

Good point, I was forgotten all about s-off and on, it was a long time ago that I rooted my Desire.
I think I am not, beacause flashing the ROM of HTC also gives me a non-rooted phone. I'll check it this evening. Is using the tool from htcdev.com/bootloader the best way to become s-off?

No that will unlock your bootloader, not give you s off. Use revolutionary.
I found out I'm s-off, after I flashed clockworkmod recovery I used unrevoked to root. The rooting didn't succeed, I get the message 'failed to get root. Is your firmware to new?
I was on RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release, I have flashed an older stock ROM from the list on this page (1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984), and will try it again.
I'll let you know what the results are.

After you flashed recovery, there was no need to use unrevoked. All you had to do was boot into recovery and flash superuser.zip file. That would have rooted your existing rom.
However, what is your ultimate aim? If you want a ROM, you can simply flash the optimal hboot for the ROM (optional but recommended), boot into recovery, full wipe and flash the rom. The ROM will already be pre-rooted.

You could flash a custom recovery through bootloader and then flash a custom rom. without downgrading.

If you are S-OFF that will stay. So you can flash a custom recovery and a rom. You might need to use the PD98IMG way to flash the recovery if you do not have eng s-off

The reason why the downgrade was needed was because, Someone would want to root his or her device without changing the rom. In this case, the loop hole that made rooting possible was closed in the 2.3 update. So if you were to try and root your device with the 2.3 rom, it would fail. In order to achieve the root previllage, you had to downgrade to an android version where the loop hole that allows the phone to be rooted is still available.
But in your case, if you want to flash a custom rom, there is no need to downgrade. All you need to do is flash a recovery by the PD98IMG.zip way.
Or to flash it using the fastboot commands from pc, you could flash an ENG-HBOOT via the PD98IMG.zip in bootloader then use your pc(fastboot commands ) to do whatever you want.
Got it now?

Stuck in Recovery & can't start any ROM

Hi!
I just HTCdev unlocked the bootloader and rooted the HTC Desire HD and everything was fine. I was in the stock ROM rooted, so I flashed the recovery and then I tried to install some ROMs and everything failed, I was stucked in the HTC loading screen...
I tried to flash several ROMs but the result was always the same: stuck in the loading screen. I did a full wipe everytime of course, but it didnĀ“t solve anything.
At the end I tried to flash this:
[ROM][DEC 8] Official RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1 STOCK ROOTED
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235
And it worked!
But if I tried to flash another ROM like SlimBean but again, stucked...
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
This rom is old school. U need an old recovery..what rom are u interested in...cm.. or sense?

I actually realised that I was in S-ON so I had to flash the boot.img separately. It worked then!
Thanks!
