Gen 10 80xs review from someone? - Gen9, Gen10 General

I am quite interested in the gen 10 80xs as a possible netbook replacement, and thus I have been having a poke around on Google for a review of one. However, I can not find one single decent, well written review anywhere. There are a fair few for the 80xs' big brother, but none that I can find for the 80xs itself.
So if anyone could point me in the direction of such a review, or if anyone feels generous enough to write a fairly comprehensive review in this thread for me that would be highly appreciated.

Well well..
I do hope you will give me your thoughts on it! . Are you getting the keyboard cover as well?

Well, it didn't arrive today.
I'm so inpatient when it comes to gadgets in the mail. About the cover; I sure hope so. As far as I could see, it should be with my order.

Damn. :/
Ah damn, I hate it when I get all hyped and then something doesn't arrive. :/

Thanks for your opinion, if you do have large hands how difficult is it to type productively on it? Also, how much travel do the keys have, I wouldn't imagine they have all that much.
Also, how does the performance of the Rockchip processor compare to the TI processor in the 101XS? (assuming that you have experience of both devices of course.)

Have you considered the 97xs ? Should be a nice middle, with the TI processor.

I would indeed consider the 97XS, if it were available in the UK, or if I'd heard anything about it becoming available soon. Also I find myself attracted to the 8 inch screen because of the greater portability (currently owning a ten inch tablet.) However if the general performance of the 80XS (and indeed the performance with more demanding games such as Shadowgun and GTA) is not up to scratch I may have to reconsider and have a look at the 101XS. Or the 97XS if it ever comes out over here!
Also, has your 80XS graced you with it's presence yet?

Mis-informed
I seem to have neglected to do a proper Google search in that respect, while the 97XS is not shown on the UK store. It is available for purchase on the European store in the correct currency.
Only £20 more as well...hmmm, tempting.
[Edit] Ahhh but after yet another look at the webpage it doesn't come with a coverboard for £200, the coverboard is actually another £50. Which is a bit irritating really.. :/

Sv: Gen 10 80xs review from someone?
Not yet, but I finally got the confirmation that it will indeed arrive today.
I would have gotten the 101xs if it wasn't so expensive.

It finally arrived. Without key/cover-board.
It feels like it a nice build quality. Gonna try it out once the kids are in bed.

Woohoo!
Brilliant! And mmm, that's what i'm thinking. The 101XS is just a bit too expensive :/ Good build quality is always a good start
No coverboard? D:

Sv: Gen 10 80xs review from someone?
Here we go.
I like it a lot, so far. The onscreen keyboard layout is a bit weird, but I'm sure I'll either get used too it, or I'll install another.
I love the weight of it. Feels great, and I won't mind letting my 3½ yo kid play with it.
I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of a cover board in the pack, but this is my first tab, so...
I won't be spending much time with it in portrait mode, that's for sure. I feels a bit awkward that way.
But I think it has a nice balance in landscape mode. (Screen can rotate 360°)
Comes with Jelly Bean 4.1.1
Sd-card slot is a open slot. (Can't figure out if I like that or not.)

Update !
I'm sending it back. Camera doesn't work, at all. Maybe it's just a bad unit, but I'm thinking about getting my money back, and buy a different tab.
BTW: I tried this "Shadowgun"-game-thingy, played 2 minutes, runs fine. NOT my kind of game tho.

Shame.. :/

Shame about the lack of coverboard, and also the non-working camera. :/ Especially considering the build quality is meant to be really quite good on the gen 10 series.
And excellent, I merely selected Shadowgun as a fairly graphically intensive example of a game

The 80 xs will not meet your demands. Been playing a bit more with it. My big kid played hill climb racing and I noticed quite a bit of lag.
I'm getting a galaxy tab 2 7".
But hey, these are just my thoughts.
It all comes down to your demands.

Also, the on/off button is located awkward.
Hard to reach and even see.
Again, all of this is just my opinion. (And my girlfriend)

Sony Ericson LiveView

anyone out there try the LiveView with the vibrant yet, and if so, how do you like it? I'm thinking about getting one, looks like a cool little toy, but i've herd some negatives about connetion issues (yes i know they just recent released a fireware update to help that) but still unsure if it's worth it.
Thanks in advance!
well i just got it, and it's pretty bomb in case any of u 203 visitors wanted to know lol

Its a bluetooth connected display that you wear on your wrist. It will give you a lot of information at a glance. I guess it would be great for someone who hates pulling their phone out all the time, or someone who uses a belt clip or armband case.

they put out an update for the software that makes it pretty usefull. there is also a hack with tasker to help it connect when it disconnects.
it does disconnect sometimes, but for the most part it works really well. If you are on xda and hack your phone then you know the software isn't always perfect and if you have delt with roms that arn't quit ready for daily driver you know the feeling and it isn't that bad.
I'm loving this so far, and want more people to get it so that more people would devolop plugins for it.
it is coming to the US soon, or u can get it on ebay for about 70 bucks! get it now before they get to the us and become hot and the price on ebay skyrockets!

Great job! Thanks!
Really happy to read about the battery life. Finally, someone who writes about it after spending thorough time testing it. The trouble with early reviews is, the battery test is often unsubstantiated.
Kudos.
Good review
Great review!
Good review, I was going to upgrade to the Nexus next month but I'm not sure I can go for a phone without a SD card slot why wouldn't they add an SD slot, I couldn't fit everything on it that I currently have on my SII.
But then again they've added a notification LED, I hate that the SII hasn't got one of those.
GPS
Good reviews! Thanks.
How is the GPS on this thing? I have the Samsung Vibrant and the GPS on this phone sucks big time. Since I upgraded to an HTC Raider, the GPS on the Raider is an absolute plus. It locks onto the satellites instantly!

No sorry but I am sure you could ask them at the web site somewhere.
on ebay, they are selling the refurbished units for $39.99.
Hello qbking77,
I just got a eWonder softkey silicone keyboard. It is great but i find silicone keyboard little odd. And I also find that keyboard can be very productive. I was wondering do you really like the logitech zagg keyboard. I think I can spend $99 for a good keyboard. How are keys? How does it feel? Do you like the size? How is the viewing angle?
I like you review on Youtube. Good work.
Thanks.
I wish Logitech makes the same keyboard with ITA layout but actually these dumbs only make ITA keyb for that damn i-thing
Target brick and mortar stores are carrying these for $59.99 new. Most of the stores in my area have a couple in stock. Thankfully their site indicates if a store has an item in stock or not.
A big YMMV on this. The Tab 10.1 16GB has also been marked down to $399.99 at local stores in my area. I picked up both and am quite happy with the setup. Couldn't imagine giving up my MacBook Pro but this has pretty much replaced it for light every day computing duty.
XT9 (spell check and word completion)
I received my Logictech Keyboard case for the Samsung Galaxy tab 10.I am very satisfied with it. There is one inconvenience that I am having. The XT9 (spell check and word completion) is disabled when it connects. I was able to get it to work by rebooting, but once the touch keyboard vanishes it no longer works. Does anyone know how to make it work?
Thanks

GameKlip PS3 Controller Accessory?

So I discovered this awesome thing called the GameKlip which is basically lets you mount your phone above a bluetooth PS3 controller and use it for gaming.
Check out the site here: http://thegameklip.com/
And here's the official XDA thread in the S3 forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760595
One problem though: Each GameKlip is device specific, and right now they have one for the Galaxy S3 and pretty much every Galaxy S2 version EXCEPT the T-989. I contacted the creator, Ryan French, and he said that he can make a model of the GameKlip for the T-989 IF he gets enough demand from us.
If you are interested take a moment and contact Ryan through Facebook https://www.facebook.com/GameKlip or Twitter http://twitter.com/GameKlip and ask about making the GameKlip for our device, and hopefully we can get enough support because this is awesome and any gamer out there can agree, we want this for our phone.

http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4303&idPhone2=4129 It looks like you're correct, but have you actually tried the t989 in the Skyrocket gameclip? The corners are shaped somewhat differently and that's where it grips the phone.
Just posted on the facebook saying I would buy one if he made one for the T989. Hopefully more will do the same because I would love to have it.
I ordered one last night so I will try to remember to come back to comment on the fit. I think I read our phone might be 1mm taller and wider which hopefully shouldn't matter.

Sorry, been busy but I have good(ish) news!
Not sure how it is supposed to fit on the skyrocket, but it does fit acceptably on the hercules. I say that because you do sort of have to "pop" it into place, but it's just a tiny bit of force that is probably supposed to be there to keep it in place. The back does bow a little, but that might be rather intentional. Any way, long story short, it fits! It might not be perfect, but it's not bad enough to even hint at it not working (at least not that I have noticed yet).

Bluetooth watch recommendations....

Can anyone recommend a bluetooth watch that works well with our Note 2? Could really do with one for work as I can't really keep piping my phone out of my pocket to keep checking.
I'm looking only for basic features - caller id and sms preview!
Something that doesn't monster drain the battery etc!

The Pebble is not quite released yet but looks interesting..one that is out is the Metawatch.
I hve no experience with either...so YMMV
Found this review of three others HERE for your viewing pleasure!
I'm personally waiting for the Pebble that Steelyglint linked to be released, but in the meantime you can try the Sony Ericsson LiveView (£20 from play.com. £17 from amazon) It supposedly has some bluetooth connectivity issues but I didn't really notice any issues when I used it with my SGS2 (i9100)
However I don't know where I've put it and can't test it on my note 2, so I can't say how well it will work with it.
Also the wrist strap that comes with it looks crap.
Great minds think alike. I was just looking at a couple of Live Views on eBay and wondering about compatability. A few of those up for grabs between £15-20. Almost cheap enough to take a punt on I reckon
Found one other HERE but it's rather more expensive !
