[Q] Looking to port - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've found quite a few guides and tutorials for porting roms, but still kinda confused :what:. Would love to port some crazy roms to our phones. Heck, I would love to cook a rom too, but it all seems overwhelming :banghead:. Don't exactly know where to start, even though I already know about Chef Central. Is there any guides that describe things with easy to understand processes? Thanks in advanced everyone.

Take a look at the links here, not necessarily porting but they come into play with anything android

Site Ideas

So, I have taken a Web Design course and just invested in Dreamweaver and Photoshop (both CS5.5). I am looking to make a site similar to my guides. Kind of an Incredible 2 reference site. I was wondering what things you guys would like to see in this type of site. Thanks.
All your guides you made, and a forum like setup for anyone who doesn't understand them completely as well as other walkthroughs and general android news. Also see about making it tapatalk compatible.
That would a lot of help, to noobs and a directoryof dinc2 info.

Well I have no idea about tapatalk and forums, so I would definitely need some help with that.

I actually think there are enough Dinc2 forums out there. I'd personally be more interested in a nice, neat maintained list of ROMs, tutorials, and resources. Info tends to get buried in forums, especially for a noob.

Guys, I am working on the site, but I need help with a name. I originally came up with "HTC Resources" but then I might get into copyright issues, and make it seem like I am affiliated with HTC. Any ideas for good names?
Vivowmania.
Hah I dunno I suck at stuff like that.

Well, the site barely has anything done so far, because I've scrapped stuff several times, but I like where it's going now. The name I have decided on is:
quietly rooted: make the most out of your HTC phone
Man I had the same idea as for making a reference site for the phone. Would you mind if I linked you're guides in it? You wrote up some good stuff that's helpful.
Sure. BTW, I'm done working for the weekend, as I'm having some issues, and I need to talk to someone about it, which I'll do Monday or Tuesday.

[Poll] Interest in porting the Xperia S skin?

Right, so I put up this poll to actually know how many people are interested in such a port.
I'm going to mention first that I'm barely starting custom ROM development and whilst I do understand most of the stuff, there are still some things that block me from doing stuff properly. Yet I'm curious if people are interested in such a mod and if they're interested in someone developing such things.

Teach me how to dev?

So I've been looking around for any guides to teach me to dev some ROMs and I can't seem to find one that I can follow.
Would somebody be willing to help me learn?

which rom do you want to dev?
I was hoping to do one either based from or as close to the stock ICS as possible.
That would be awesome Matt. I myself have made a couple threads about a Rom or kernal from stock ics but none havent gotten any response from the devs, even though it seems there is much interest in it and that interest seems to be growing too. Myself, like you, would love to learn to dev to help our tiny little community out of anyone could be so kind as to set me in the right direction, especially since we're down to only a few devs and all our roms/kernels are cm based. Btw anyone know what happened to HoNo? His work was looking very promising but it's like he's fallen off the face of the earth

Yeah, I've seen your threads and I agree. That's sort of why I want to learn to dev a ROM. Perhaps if we collaborated on what we have found so far on the subject, we could figure it out somehow.
Not sure if I can find one of the stock ROM tutorials but if you want to start learning to dev you can start with CM to try and get the hang of it. Its a start and you can see if u can find an open source stock ROM to customize after the fact. But here's the link I found for CM custom building.

Suggesting A Sticky/Directory For Up and Coming Dev's

I think their is a great need to have a sticky made as a directory for information regarding the how to's and don't do's of Rom building, development, and troubleshooting :silly:. It would be really nice to clean up the forums with guides on common errors and the like so we don't have so many open posts of "hey, its not working". :highfive:
A mix of chef central, android q/a, android general, and misc Android development have this pretty much covered!

I really don't think people, especially beginners, know that these things exist. I think if we had these sources all in one spot we may even have more well built roms for our phones. More like a directory of sorts than self made tutorials.

You can Google a term like "how to cook roms" or visit the dev section on xda.
