[MOD] S3 Wireless Charging Palm Touchstone (Origami technique) - Galaxy S III Accessories

HI all, following the success of my Note 2 Origami Wireless charging mod here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986016
I now present to you the Origami Wireless Charging mod for the Galaxy S3
The technique is very simple and you only need a Palm Pre wireless receiver and copper tape.
The instructions are similar to for the NOte 2, just look at the above link. The only difference is the alignment of the contacts.
I should not have to elaborate on this as the pictures will show you what I mean.
I am currently using a Spigen SGP Ultra bumper case with this mod without problem.
This mod charges the GS3 around 16% to 17% per hour it is quicker than that on the NOte 2
NFC function is NOT affected as far as I can tell.
Here are a few pics:

This is how it looks like with just an original Samsung TPU case....

Well, that certainly looks a lot neater than the mess I've got back there.

Were you able to test the Freq of the Magnetic field while charging to see how much of the field is effected by the exposed Copper trailing off from the Coiled Copper in the protective sleeve, make sure the induction wasn't attracted to exposed copper and run that path, maybe bypassing the circuit board in the black sleeve with the Coil....How the Induction is created is the Receive and Transmitting Copper coils have to be of equal size etc....

I tried this tto, and it was a mess. Drained the battery overnight. Musta done something wrong and am going to have to try again someday...

I haven't done this myself, but it seems like you probably have contacts touching each other where it isn't supposed to. make sure none of the copper tapes are touching

HI all, I have tested NFC and I can confirm it blocks NFC, this may be due to the NFC antenna is in the battery and the wireless receiver sits on top of the battery.
Not entirely a loss to me because I can still send files via direct WiFi.

has anyone done this yet ???

Im going to attempt doing this whenever I get a chance. It doesn't look difficult at all and truthfully I could care less about doing NFC when I can easily take the back cover off and still transfer files via NFC regardless.

I am not sure what method you used but I have done this on two devices and both have kept nfc functionality.

This actually depends on where you put the coil. I think the nfc antenna is around top half of phone. Easiest way to test is by using nfc tags or a pay pass credit card to help placement of coil height/location.

I placed mine smack in the the middle on the phone so it would be centered in landscape and portrait and have had no NFC issues.

Any reason why this wouldn't work with an AOSP ROM. I tried this and got nothing but it could very well need to be redone.

there is no reason this mod will not work on aosp.
check what you did. you probably missed a step or wired it incorrectly.

Figured it out, needed to roll some electrical tape to keep the copper on the contacts.

hi,
i did this mod to my unrooted stock s3.
It works, when i place it on the charger, i got a "bong" and it fharges. But theres no wireless notification.
any idea why?

sorry no clue, but hopefully someone whoi knows more than myself will chime in... does it charge though?

If it is indeed charging then I wouldn't complain at all. I wish I didn't get the pop up saying it's connected to a wireless charging device.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium

you should be able to go into your system/media/ folder and replace the connect sound with a blank sound if you want to remove the charging sound.
the pop up is part of samsung's os.. but it just goes away after a few seconds, so i dont have any issues with it. I usually drop mine off onto the charger and go to sleep.

I modded my S3 too, finally it is working.
How fast are your charging-speeds?
mine is increadably bad..
When I keep on the screen, it does not really charge, screen-off it charges, but very slow..

I assume this works with any cyanogenmod/ASOP rom, correct?

The one that the other guy posted only includes the case for $34. You have to buy the mat seperately. The one I found comes with both....but I'm sure that the quality isn't as good though.
that powermate case looks fat!
This is not exactly wireless, the four tits on the bottom of the door contact the bars on pad to charge. I have the qi wireless door from Verizon and the energizer two position pad. It works great but there is supposed to be a update that will increase the distance it will charge. Thus most cases will not be a problem. The current one is about 5mm I believe and suppose to be going to 40mm. Distance between the door and charger. Goodluck
See the Galaxy sIII shine via SynergyRom
Hmmm...... I don't think the quality on that thing would be very good, $55 seems pretty steep, I'm pretty sure you can get something of better quality for cheaper or the same price.
well.. technically it's wireless...... since it doesn't require a plugging on cables.... but yeah.. it's just one of those with contacts....

Yeah it looks like the power runs through the power mat on those metal strips, and the contacts on the back case make a connection with that. Doesn't seem very safe or efficient, plus those contacts on the back of the case seem like they'd scratch the powermat strips, and if you look carefully on the bottom right of the first picture it looks like that may be the case, could also be writing or a reflection or something else too.
I think the price doesn't justify it. I'll stick to wired charging and wait for a phone that includes wireless charging out of the box.
wireless
This is not Qi(only way to go) nor Powermat (not bad, but not Qi...yet) nor is it inductive charging. It is CONDUCTIVE (Duracell) and useless...In this case, use a USB cable instead
I hate to play devil's advocate here, but by using this type of charging, the only thing you're doing is reducing the number of inserts/removals on your usb port thus having it last abit longer... but these things are also rated for 50,000+ insert/removal cycles so it's kinda hard to use these devices long enough to go over that limit.

You're completely missing the point. The main idea is to increase convenience, which this does big time. I don't care at all about the longevity of USB port.
That said, I bought a Verizon pad for $15 on eBay, and am now trying to find a stupid charging cover that isn't made in someone's kitchen. Finding the latter is the hard part.

i'm not missing the point at all. The convenience factor is implied with that. There is no other real reason for you to get wireless charging.
What i'm saying is that it's an added "benefit" for this specific charger.
Also, send a PM to kms108. he's selling the receiver pad for the Qi chargers.
I'm buying the Nokia chargers as soon as I can find one hopefully this weekend seeing that the Nokia lumia 920 is released on Friday. I have the Qi receiver and it works great on the LG (Verizon Pad) just want something more appealing. They also say that the charger is more forgiving on where you place the phone do to new technology from Texas instruments.

Anyone have problem with usb cable too easy to pull out?

It seems the body of the phone is so thick at the bottom towards the front, that the usb connector sits way too deep, because of that some micro usb connectors can't reach all the way through to properly lock in. The cable that came with the phone has such thick plastic around the micro usb connector that when pulled a little sideways it acts like a crowbar, pulling the plug out the connector, all it needs a slight pull to the side and the cable disconnects.
Looking at the hole (screen is up) it seems the bottom edge of the metal casing of the connector is almost at the edge of the plastic:

however top edge is about 1/8" away from the edge:
That 1/8" of plastic is what stands between the connector and cable.
I just checked two other phones I have and their metal casing is at most 1/16" away from the edge of plastic.
Cable from HTC One X that has much slimmer plastic at the connector works almost perfectly, but it still not as secure as on other phones though.
Anyone experiencing same issues? or it's my phone defective?
My advice to u is if it wiggles u might want to talk to samsung..wiggling can cause damage to the motherboard due to disconnection and conection of power source ...goodluck

I've had the same problem on my International Note II since day one. Rather annoying. I came from the SI so I thought it was due to the usb being on the bottom instead of the top.
Well if u guys are just "dealing with it" dont move the cable at all,,, I know somtimes it happens ..maybe dont charge it in the car..where its more plausible to get moved

The purpose of this topic is not seek for a solution, but rather gather information if more people have the same issue, if it's a design flaw or defective selected units.
The wiggling is inside the connector, not the connector itself.

This has been discussed before on another thread. It is a widely known issue. The thread mostly concerned AT&T Note IIs, but it appears it's on pretty much every single variant. Last I checked (and it's been a while) there was no solution other than being lucky enough to get your phone replaced for free.
I am on my second Note II (i-317) and I had this very issue on my first device, albeit, the problem seemed to have been a lot worse on my first phone. It's not so bad on this one. Even the Best Buy rep who I've been dealing with for a while, mentioned the issue to ME, when I went in to complain about my terrible battery life on my original Note. He said he was having the same issues with his Note II. He said it's almost like Samsung built the stock charger end too small. He said he didn't think it was a design defect of the phone, itself, because when he uses other non-stock chargers they fit perfectly.
same here.. at first i thought someone unplug my charger but then it's happening most of the time.. i can't think of any solution so i'm just dealing with it..
Mine came with Defective cable as well.
For the fix I trimmed some plastic sleeve off so it slid in further gets bite now
I also purchased kindle replacement cable from amazon that fits much snugger -

Wireless Charging on i9195

Hi there,
is there a possibility to charge the S4 mini via a wireless induction-kit like the S4 has one?
My research did not find any related products to the mini, just for his big brother
If so, could you tell me where I can get one in Europe?
Thanks in advance
+1 I'm also interested in it very much ^^
sorry not lauched...yet, we have to wait abit longer
I don't think we'll see this on the mini as there are no connection points like on the S4 and S3. Unless they are hidden under the inner cover somewhere.
Here http://mobileandphone.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-vs-galaxy-s4-comparison/ is writed that both phones have integrated QI chargers:
The S4 and S4 mini have a removable battery and microSD card slot and native Qi wireless charging without the need for a dedicated cover.

I have found and order this variant: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Qi-wireless...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item2eca5c000c
It works via connecting to microusb port and placing under back panel.
It is suitable via dimensions, and I hope it will work normally

I received one of these last week and it works great. It seems to charge pretty quick but galaxy charge current monitor says its only charging at 260ma. It seems a lot quicker than the S3 charging with the palm wireless charger which showed 500ma on GCC.
The base unit is also a lot less fussy over positioning than the palm was and it works ok through the igard case.
One downside is the nfc only just works now,and is very fussy over positioning and is slow to react.

The back cover fits fine you can't tell the qi is fitted. It's much thinner than the palm one I had in my S3 which gave bumps on the back cover.

It plugs into the usb slot but that in itself can be a pain. If you find yourself needing to use a normal usb charger you must first remove any case, then remove the back cover and then remove the charging coil and then reassemble it.
I might look into hooking into the other side of the usb socket when I get time, though I suspect it will probably involve disassembly and soldering something permanently in place.

CHOETECH T513 Wireless Charger Review with Coupon Code

I have tried CHOETECH T511 before, basically speaking, this T513 is very like the T511 that they released on 2013, same carve on the pad, same smooth feeling when i touch the pad, and same led indication when connect the power source on. The LED light is smaller and less bright than T511 square version, this is a small improvement but according to the review of T511, this might compliment many buyers who want to use it in bedroom, and it has no sound beeping like the old version.
2 improvements:
1. The design is more fashion with shining silver side, add some element of metal.
2. The solution has 3 coils inside, it makes the charging area much bigger than 1 coil solution. Any place on this pad is the sweet spot so you can just put the phone on the pad and it starts charging, very convenient.
This pad seems too smooth to place the Nexus 4 like the old version, if the table is not very flat, it will slide a little bit. But it has no problem of draining battery after charging complete. And it generates less heat than most other brands, never higher than 104 °F.
Here is the 30% off coupon code from Amazon: IAWP6WRN

I have the one coil version with no problems. Got it for $25 if I remember correctly so i'm not complaining.
I owned one of their earlier devices. It wasn't bad for the price. However, compared with the official Google Nexus Wireless Charger, there were some serious overheating issues associated with the Choe.
To be specific, my device would heat up to about 50-70 C (depending on how long I'd leave it on the charger), when my device would be in deep sleep. I can't imagine how hot it'd get if I was texting or using hangouts intermittently while trying to charge it.
Also, with the choe, I found it annoying that my device slipped all over the plastic top and not easily finding the "sweet spot."

Anyone having this problem?
I got the T513 based on a recommendation that I saw in a Verizon Note 3 "Wireless Charging" thread... for the intended use of - you guessed it - wirelessly charging my Verizon Note 3. The reason it was recommended was due to the larger size of the pad (large phone needs a large pad so it doesn't fall off), and the 3 coils.
Today was the first day that I've used it at work. I put my phone on it (blue LED came on), and when it got to about 98% battery level, it seemed like the charger would turn off (LED turned off), my phone would wake up, and then charging would start again (LED came on)... and would repeat this cycle about every 30 seconds.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
It seems like my phone is saying "OK, I've had enough charging" and ending the charge connection, which is then re-activated within seconds, only for my phone to say it's had its fill again. Weird.
I really don't want it to do this. I don't mind so much at work, since the phone is in plain view, and I can take the phone off the plate when I see it start to cycle like this. However, I'm curious if this same thing is happening while I'm charging my phone at home while I sleep.

Does this thing have wireless charging or not???

Like the titles says.
I keep seeing mixed answers from different review sites.
It has wireless charging capability. Which means you will be able to buy an lg circle case and you can wirelessly charge. Or no sung in a few weeks there will be a thousand knock off after market backs with it built in.
It appears likely that most or all models will not have an out of the box back where you can wirelessly charge.

Yep. I'm currently doing that with my S3. Though, instead of buying a whole separate back, I'm using a wireless receiver, like the one below:

Considering you can buy the circle cases for the G4, I don't see why you can't buy the lil receiver like I have with my S3. I definitely know the S4, S5, and Note 4 for sure had those receivers you could use, but I honestly wasn't aware if the manufacturers of these made them for other devices besides the ones I mentioned.
Ok, now I have to consider this phone. Thanks!

No prob. Glad to help.
Haha, I know the feeling. I only even bought the receiver for my S3 since the charging port is all messed up, so this pretty much is buying time before I upgrade later this summer. Not a deal breaker if a phone doesn't have it, BUT it's super convenient and in my case, saves me from having to buy more batteries that'll be useless in less than 3 months.
Speaking of wireless charging, you have any recommendations for battery packs with Qi charging built in? I've seen a few, but I don't know anyone who's actually used one. Just the usual ones you plug into the charging port.
