This is pretty funny - Sprint LG Optimus G

Sounds like BB10 is going to get Jelly Bean while the majority of Android devices won't! LMAO!

That is funny. It won't be as funny when they get updated first.

Funny but just sad. LG seems to be following the path that everyone expected with the lgog. Can't produce updates in a timely manner at all. I know that they are releasing worldwide jb but I dont care about that. Lol. We will probably get jb when key lime pie is out. Ugh.

If they already released JB in Korea, the it's more than likely the update is in our illustrious domestic carriers possession awaiting their approval.

Looks cool the only thing I can say is does anybody else remember thier blackberry touch screen experience? Uh cause i do starting with the wonderful Storm ( POS) all of the Torch family (POS) and even the new BOLD , they just have so many failed attempts it is unlikely this will be much different.
BUT and that is a BIG BUT this LGOG is something I wouldnt have never expected from LG , not since the original LG 510 has there been a more stable and good working phone.

Blackberry seems to be shooting to be just good enough with this phone. Dual core processor, 1 gb RAM and a smaller screen by today's standards seem like this is the device they are testing the waters with when really they should go for broke. Realistically this could be their last hurrah.
Personally I want to see them succeed. I dont think i will ever buy another blackberry, but a third strong OS would keep all systems innovating at a very high rate instead of encouraging stagnation.

Hd2 was able to run ICS before most android devices at the time. The webos tablet and blackberry was also able to run android. Doesn't surprise me the bb10 will too. A smartphone these days no matter the stock OS can in some way run android. Even the iPhone could run android and has in the past

I certainly hope it isn't their last anything.
Look, you might think the hardware isn't all there. That isn't the big picture. Watch your mind explode. No iPhone, no Android as we know it, No widgets, no Windows 8, and to come full circle, no blackberry, no iPhone.
Android will die one day. Blackberry might die too. Analyst are already predicting the iPhone's doom. But, BB only gives us more. The ideas that blackberry comes up with will enhance the android phones. Competition brings innovation. I hope blackberry does great and brings timely updates too. Imagine if all the other os's updated like Apple. Don't think for a second blackberry didn't take note to our fragmentation. They have the same 2 phones worldwide for a reason.
And don't think for a second our brand loyalty its less fickle than it is. We will jump ship in drones. Blackberry might not be leading the pack now. But, now is very relative.
So, i agree with everyone.

The only level of encryption approved by pretty much every government worldwide for their secure communications. Blackberry will still have it's place in corporate and gov't settings for a while yet, but I don't see the mass appeal that they want and need to regain their once dominant position. They would have to do something more eye-popping than what they did.
On a somewhat different note, what are thoughts that some others have about upcoming platforms? Firefox OS, Tizen, Ubuntu, etc... I read that Samsung will be releasing Tizen phones in Q3.

Well see...I'm happy with the direction android is going in so far. if anything, since iOS doesn't seem to be encouraging innovation with that boring stagnant ui and features, I would like a good third player in the market whoever it may be to keep Google on its toes and android moving along. But blackberry? They had their chance years ago I'm over it and no people won't "flock" to another os people don't think that way
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app

I think more ppl would flock than you expect. If what they want is simple and their when the need it. I like android but it is confusing. People like comfort and usability.

I agree with that sentiment. For the average person, blackberry is a known name so they'll give it a shot. And if the OS is smooth and understandable, they won't have any trouble flocking to it. And businesses will buy in bulk.

You hit it right there that people prefer comfort thats why (since rim gave people PLENTY of time to get comfortable with android lol) I don't think they'll FLOCK but I agree there will be people willing to give it a shot and yeah it could actually catch momentum so all we can do is wait and watch haha I'm excited to see how the mobile landscape looks by the end of this year since it changes so rapidly
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app

I believe android will remain dominant for many years to come I see bb10 as more of a threat to wp8. BlackBerry has made it easy to port over android apps meaning they could easily out shine wp quickly when it comes to apps. I also believe people will defect from android also but not in droves android will remain dominant if only for the choices you can get their is a device out their that fits everyone's needs

Here is a question? Will we need to buy the app again? I assume so. Honestly, both phones are appealing.
There was a good article today about the demise of phones. It could be a great thing. If the losers leave and the leaders cut back we might see more stellar phones from less manufacturers. Lg won't make 30 different phones a year. So, the 5 they end up making might get faster updates.

Tizen on SGS III ??

As I hate it when people make threads that just lead to a link, I'll add a few words of my own.
I'm a little skeptical that this will go the way of the Palm Pre. Be that as it may, you have to consider that Samsung is getting big in the mobile market. They may take the chance to break away from Android and add a new flavor into the mix.
That being said though, does it have to be so........ FUGLY
It looks like every OS out now slapped toge- OH WAIT... I just realized it's some third party Chinese developer made OS. No wonder
I would hate to see the SGSIII go the way of the Samsung Instinct.
LINK
Good quote on the subject:
Seriously Samsung, another iOS clone? Just focus on polishing Android! Android is open source. And that’s not just a marketing move! Open source as in O-P-E-N-S-O-U-R-C-E; as in anyone can take the source code, put their own name onto it and pretend that they made it. There is literally NO reason to develop another operating system. Android is already ahead in number of features, number of apps, and is developed by Google, with top developers and designers from around the world. Samsung, you are a hardware manufacturer. You will never acquire enough talent to compete with Google. Maybe if Google suddenly stopped Android development for two years, Bada or Tizen might catch up. But it won’t.

Lol tizen ? ... Looks like **** !
Looks like Touchwiz. I won't buy a SGSIII if it uses Tizen. I dislike Touchwiz as it is--there's no way that I'm going to buy a phone that looks exactly like it--even if the hardware is great.
I'd rather buy the next iteration of the Nexus series. Heck, if Sprint miraculously gives my city LTE support in the near future, I'd sell my E4GT immediately and buy a Galaxy Nexus. I doubt that'll happen though, as my city doesn't even have Wimax support, so I'd guess my city would be near the bottom of the list for LTE rollout.
I'm not leaving Android, so if Samsung goes to Tizen, I will drop Samsung and pick up another manufacturer.
And I buy a lot of Samsung devices... Moment, Epic 4G, Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy Tab 10.1, etc.

Agree. They wouldn't risk releasing such a crappy looking OS on a highly anticipated device such as the SGSIII. Maybe testing the waters with a different device...yes but yeah android is definitely working good for them.
Samsung wont drop Android...Look at how much success has come from it. These are nothing but rumors.
To those doubting the source, here's a more well-known source: http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/14/samsung-to-merge-bada-with-tizen-the-os-party-just-got-a-little/

For what its worth.
The Galaxy S series is tied to Android, I doubt Samsung would risk alienating potential repeat customers by switching OS's. Makes little to no sense.
I'm willing to bet this shows up on a low to mid range device first to test the waters and see if consumers buy into it. I'd wager that it wouldn't debut in the US.

They will probably supplant their entry level feature-phones with this. There are still far more feature-phones (read: dumb-phones) on the planet making that a very lucrative market segment to pursue. I'm pretty sure Nokia is still king in that market segment so Samsung could stand to gain quite a bit by offering a relatively feature-rich experience for very little money to those who don't care about buying into an ecosystem (iOS or Android) as much as accessing their services (facebook, twitter, etc) and simply having a phone that works.
Not to mention this device likely would probably be off the radar of the current ****-show of IP warfare ruining this industry right now.

I highly doubt this. Google's own "flagship device" and ICS in general have kinks that need to be worked out. Enough! lol.
BTW, why are we talking about another version of Android, this is getting out of hand.
I was wondering how long it would take after I joined before people uttered the i-word
The reason that the iPhone is so successful is because out of the box it is snappy enough and easy to use. I'ts no longer required to have iTunes, you can do everything without a computer now with the iCloud thing.
Android has basically become bloated crap thanks to the carriers and manufacturers being able to shove all their **** onto their phones. Apple basically has the carriers by their balls with the iphone and put strict requirements for what they can and can't put on the iphone.
I think a rooted custom ROM android phone blows the iphone out of the water. but out of the box, T-Mobile's poorly made and useless apps+samsung and other manufacturer's laziness and inability to push updates and load their ridiculous and unneeded overlay software (touchwiz) is why android has been a complete failure in the face of the iphone among competent phone users. Someone who wants something to work or doesn't want to bother rooting doesn't want a sluggish, bloated POS with so many problems when they could just have an iphone that everyone has.
That all being said...CM & other custom made ROMs and Google's Nexus phones are worlds better than the iPhone. It just requires a little effort.
I squarely blame the carriers and manufacturers for the agonizingly slow release of ICS, and why unless Google gets it's act together and starts pushing its weight around with the manufacturers at least, nobody will ever release anything competitive with the iphone.
Here's hoping Microsoft and Nokia don't make the same mistakes...

Jellybean scheduled to be rolled out in june for Developers

ARTICLE POSTED ON ROOTZWIKI
http://rootzwiki.com/_/articles/rumors/android-50-jellybean-rumored-to-debut-in-june-r415
I STILL DON'T HAVE AN ICS UPDATE.
Google really needs to get their crap together. ICS still out and one phone officially has it. Now this is coming and although it's not confirmed, this is still ridiculous. It would be nice to see tablets running the new upcoming OS but where do the phones play a role in this? I thought the OEMs where the reason for fragmentation but it is proving that Google is the kingpin behind all of this.
I love android but I like to be up to date and it's becoming harder and harder as Google gets more and more powerful. We shouldn't have to get a Nexus to be up to date. Fragmentation really needs to be fixed.
It will not be out for like a year.google has not even said it's going to be called jelly bean.

Another reason to only get google phones. The GN will be updated right away, we will have to wait 6+ months.
If history holds true then we won't get it at all. Both the vibrant and the sgs4g only got one official update. You can bet your ass the next apple event will highlight how all their devices are updated while only a slim % of android phones run the latesr version.

Well its really easy if your devices and product all run similar hardware. apple iphone and ipod touch all run similar hardware. Drivers are mostly the same with slight changes.
Unless google says only restricts to certain hardware like tegra 2 and tegra 3 for tablets. and what ever processor for phones this won't happen. Essentially google did their job once they released source. It now up to Htc, Samsung , lg, and moto do their job and make new drivers from source.
Also another reason is carriers. The samsung galaxy 2 is the same phone through out europe on different carriers. Htc could of did the same thing with the sensation and use a apq8060 so it could essentially be a a world phone. You could essentially switch out the modem and still use the same processor. This would make it easier for updates. But U.s carriers want to brand them. Put certain restrictions for them. Also add all their bloatware back in.
Google alliance thing was something google promised but in the end they can't make it happen. You can't make carriers update your device. If they dont think its important enough so they can make money off of it then they wont update it.
T-mobile is one of the worst when it comes updating devices. I been on all the other major carriers and i seen even them release even incremental updates for phones that I thought no one uses on other carriers. Tmobile will have their flagship device with bugs for at least 6 months till they decide to update it.

This is mostly the case. The reason it takes as long as it does is adding the Touchwiz and Sense to fit phones

Huh? The whole point of ICS was to make Android a universal operating system between all phones/tablets.

I con tolerate touchwiz more than i can tolerate sense and blur. Touchwiz looks closest to stock android. So maybe it will be lighter and lighter over time. The only thing i dont like about touch wiz is the actual launcher. The rest dont really bother me. Sense 4.0 and ics make me not ever want an htc device again. Blur is just disgusting and all it does is bog the phone down.
Im still waiting on Froyo, while still on Eclair. Geez, these updates are taking FOREVER!

This was my point exactly. Google keeps saying one thing and doing another. ICS was supposed to make things uniform and I do remember the talk about slowing down all the theming or skins done by oem's. Doesn't look like anything is slowing down. Manufacturers dropping phones non stop and all the adopters of the product are left with no update. It seems as if as long as Google is getting the advertising money....all the companies can run a muck.
I have to admit the third portion of this is the cell providers just being greedy by not updating and forcing you to want to upgrade.

Well Google has done a **** job recently with ICS. The Nexus S and Nexus S 4G are ahead of the Galaxy Nexus "the premier ICS phone" and I hate to say it but I'm just losing faith in Google. To add insult to injury, Google has so many builds of ICS that nobody knows who's getting what and when.

Laser keyboard and holographic video? Haha. I just have to laugh at these people all the time. The first dude said it was the coolest, most awesomest phone ever. I wonder why he thinks so when it only has a larger screen and LTE and a few minor upgrades. I wonder if Apple pays these people to line up and hype up the iPhone.

Just to explain why some might be that way. Is basically cause we like all forms of technology including competing phones to Android, we research to see what we are up against. I for one think the iPhone is a great device, for people that want simple but works. I've read more about the iPhone then I've read about most new androids... I've also turned many of my friends who were huge on the iPhone to start using android. Overall most people don't dislike the iPhone just the maker...
My thoughts at least.

With its easy-to-use interface, amazing features, and rock-solid stability, iOS is the foundation of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. And even as others try to catch up, the technologies and features built into iOS keep your Apple devices years ahead.

Totally agree, it's their business practices that lost me as a fan back when they released the original iPhone. Still bought iPods until I got my Vibrant in 2010, then they all collected dust until I bought a Nano to use as a watch. But I'll never, ever own an iPhone. Android=freedom to customize and affords the opportunity to learn at least a little on how things work.

Hysterical!
Don't get me started on their business practices. The only Apple product I've ever owned was an iPod Video and even that was a gift. It's mind blowing with the iPods how they had all the technology to make the iPod Video the first generation iPod, but they purposefully stripped useful features away so they can slowly add the features back and sell it as a whole new device. The really unexpected part is stupid people still pay for it!
It's the same thing with the iPhone now. There's no reason why the iPhone 4S only had a 800 Mhz processor when everyone else was putting out 1.0 to 1.5Ghz processors. It's the same business tactic. Put out a substandard product now, release a later version with some of the stripped features, make idiots buy the same device twice.
You guys have to check out his article.
Wacky things heard in a carrier store!
I think this rep needs to work in the Apple store rather than at AT&T. Obviously he is clueless as to which phones was included in the lawsuit that Apple won as the Galaxy S3 wasn't included in that trial. Even though Apple is trying to in another case.
This is one reason why I hate ordering phones in store.

Blackberry 10,Threat to android?

Around here people that have seen the new blackberry 10 footage are saying that this could stomp android and ios(in this country)

And apple thought samsung stole their UI? cant wait for this. Surprised RIM could scrounge up enough money to develop anything at this point. Almost seems like they are reinventing what all phones already do. I dunno, just my 2cents. Yes BB were the leaders of smartphones, but that was at a time when their competition was palm and their $600-800 mini tablet/phones.

ftfy lol. In all seriousness though I dont see BB doing anything except disappearing completely. If they do regain relevance and a majority market share then I will rethink my agnostic ideas because the only way BB is making a come back is if someone sells their soul to the devil. IMO.

I love OS's that utilizes swiping in the UI. Something I really miss in Android after using MeeGo for a while. Android seems so stiff compared to stuff like that even though I prefer Android for other reasons.
BlackBerry is a long lost ancient technology, they should be put on a museum or something.

Being a nice OS just isn't enough in the modern smartphone market. Apps, killer hardware and a device people actually want to use are what matter.

What's with all the rampant fanboyism? You guys sound like iOS fans who were oblivious to Android before. Guess what happened to them?
RIM was really slow to adapt with their old keyboard phones, yes, but this new video is showing that they ARE starting to adapt and actually rethinking the interface flow. iOS homescreen was all icons and they sat on that without innovation for years. Android gave us widgets, pulldown notifications, and a recents menu, but you still have to press a button to see it. BB10 is saying **** it, make the thumbnails on the homescreen itself, and have the messaging hub always swipable. They are good ideas, even if they aren't going to dominate the market anytime soon.

Opinions.....Don't insult others before stating your opinion, it doesn't make it stronger or 'right'. This is what people think/feel. If that is too much to handle then don't reply to it. OP asked what others thought, and that is what we are doing.
looks pretty nice, and more competition means more evolution so lets hope they can make a comeback:what:

I also think it looks pretty nice and simple. I wouldn't mind to have it as my second device. Fingers crossed! I'm getting little tired of android. Some refreshing variation would be nice.
Yea seems interesting.. Does definitely seem like a mix between mostly iOS and some android in their.. Looks user friendly looks smooth but to me its a little bit of ugly. Device itself is ugly, and also os already seems outdated their nothing really exciting or revolutionary so yea. Good luck with that.
