Wind s3 touchscreen not working - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi guys, I'm not asking this for myself as I have the rogers version and I'm quite experienced with flashing properly.
My friend has a wind (t999v) version of the s3,he does not know how to root or flash and he never did either. What he did was update his phone to the new jellybean firmware, the proper way. After the update his touchscreen stopped working. The menu button, back button, and settings buttons still work but everything else on the screen is non responsive. He brought it to the wind store and told them. They returned the phone and told him that it's his own fault for upgrading and wants 600 dollars to repair it.
I'm wondering if there is another solution for him before I try flashing some custom roms for him. Or whether flashing anything else will fix the issue because it doesn't seem like a software issue to me.
Sorry for such a long post and thanks in advance.
( samsung sends their phone to a third part to fix, and they were the ones that said there's nothing that they would do without 600)

So its his fault for using an OTA update? Sounds to me like he needs to talk to a supervisor...

He's phone is two months old too. I know when I was with rogers, and my xplay keypad stopped working , they sent me a replacement instantly.
He's with wind and they said that there is nothing they can do for him.

That's a bunch of BS. It's an OTA for goodness sakes. OTAs go through Samsung and then the telecom. So, if the OTA was available, it had to go through his telecom. If the OTA is the cause, for whatever reason, then they should honor that.
Seriously, that's BS.

And that's why you always get insurance on a phone if you can.

Tell him to go to another wind store and tell him to mention nothing about the OTA he just have to play dumb hopefully they will give him a replacement..

damn that sucks... should i just go straight to samsung and act all stupid? like "i was updating and now it wont turn back on...."
I'd say T-mobile if possible, but if not just tell them something that wont make the warranty voiding actions obvious. They will probably know that this phone has yet to receive any updates though.
Really wondering whether it's Odin causing these issues or something with the recovery/phone itself. I don't think user error is the cause of these problems.

"Turning Wi-Fi on..." continuously displaying

Hi all,
I know this seems to be a wide spread problem and I've read through several threads hoping to fix the problem but nothing seems to be really working for me :/
This first happened while I was running 4.0.3. Wifi was working fine. Then one day when I went to switch it on like I normally ever would, it seemed to get stuck at the "Turning Wi-Fi on..." message. Reboots didn't help anything.
So I decided to upgrade to 4.1.1 thinking that doing a factory reset and flashing a new ROM would fix things. Flashed Paranoid Android ROM with no problems (wiped data, dalvik cache, etc etc) and saw the same problem with wifi when I tried turning it on. Reboot did nothing. Tried flashing the boot.img manually and that did nothing. Tried flashing Trinity kernel and once again nothing.
Can anyone help me out? This is really killing me and I think it's also destroying my phone's battery life as well
My Galaxy Nexus is GSM yakju if that helps out at all.
Thanks!!
This was also my problem... except my phone rebooted every 2minutes... I just flashed stock everything and then sent it to Samsung

So any other suggestions other than dead wifi chip?
Unfortunately, your phones WiFi chip is dust! Same thing happened to me! Did some research and found out that its a known issue! Sent mine in and received a new Gnex four days later!

How does this work exactly? Do you need a receipt or anything? I'm guessing I need to flash back to stock rom and unroot? And probably call or talk to Samsung to get it set up? Any other details I'm missing?
Thanks!

Well for me, I bought GNEX from someone else and I had to ask the guy to give me the receipt cuz Samsung wouldn't take it unless I show proof that the phone was from Canada (I live in canada)
Also I would recommend flashing to stock uprooting and re locking... Just in case

Well I guess you have to contact your friend. Also, if you can't get a support from Samsung (I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't help you...) I guess you have to go to any repair shop, since it looks like a hardware problem.

[Q] Stock issues

i work in the sprint store and in the past few days we have gotten at least 4 people with an epic touch still running gingerbread (with no option to update to ics) having issues with the bottom buttons not responding, touch screen acting weird, vibration activating sporadically, and with one case the media scanner runs in a loop. the only way to solve these issues have been to factory reset. but could only be temporary. the customers havnt returned. these issues have not just been happening on older devices but recent activation's.
is this a common issue? is there a fix? (without rooting!) we are a sprint store. we cant promote that lol
Well, couldn't you use the one click ek02, no data, which isn't rooted, and then let the ota process take the phone back to el29?
EK02 thread is here.
It would be stock, unrooted and you wouldn't be losing data.
Worth a try before a factory reset anyway..
Only thing I can think of since you don't want to root, then unroot..

We can't do that. This is a sprint store and we are very limited on what we can do. So far factory resets have done the trick. We haven't gotten anyone back sense but we also told them it wasn't normal and that if the problems returned that they should take it to a repair center to have repaired or replaced.
It really sucks though. I wish I could manually flash these peoples phones but I'm not allowed

**Ultimate GS3 sudden death thread** (Tmo version)

Hi guys, recently lots of S3 owners encouter this scary issue that their S3's motherboards just failed randomly and the phones are dead. Here is the link to the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993044
However, after reading pages, I noticed most cases are in the UK, some in other europe countries, some in asia (india, south east asia). Not sure the US version (and Tmo version specificly) is suffering from this, so I made this thread to gather information about this. I know I am paranoid, but I was hoping my S3 would last at least 2 years til my next upgrade. And now Im living in fear after knowing that thread. My S3 (manufacture date is 06/27/12) is still performing very fine with zero issue since august except the SD card being removed unexpectedly 2 times by the phone itself.
(btw, you can check your manufature date by dial this code: *#12580*369# )
Edit: seems like only international version suffers from this issue.

as much as i hate to say this but if this does happen to mine, this will be the last time I buy from Samsung and might jump ship to Apple where I can take a phone in a get it fixed in time.
Im pretty happy with Samsung, I deal with warranty on a day to day basis in another way but there is an expected amount of devices that go out that a company knows is going to fail at some point and also rely on returns for warranted devices to see what went wrong in production in order to correct it.
The problem is you have "X" amount of people on the forum which is big in consideration to a regular site and "Y" with the same problem and people group in and make the issue bigger than it is. Any company that posts a recall is at the point that OVER 42% of the product with the same failure over the release.
With that said I haven't had one problem with mine that others have reported and after being let down by HTC time and time again I most definitely will buy another Samsung device, so far it's been the best I've had out of the collection of smartphones I have.

You dont have to go to the store, call T-Mobile and they will send you one with an RMA, as soon as you get it put the old one in the box and send it out. All they do is check for water damage and put it up for refurbish they don't waste time putting it through testing they test the devices that may have account info on it if you can't power it up to format it before sending it back. They ask you that on the phone.

So does this mean that none of the tmo peeps have had no issues with their devices dying? I only ask because, I just got my galaxy last Wednesday. Had a couple quirks, but nothing's dead yet. Had a little issue with my music and swipe. When I would get my notifications tones say from email I would be listening to music, the sound would nearly drown out and stay that way till I paused my music and started again all was fine. I've been getting random screen flashes near the bottom of the screen, like a ton of lines like a glitch. Anyone else having this issue as well? Feel free to add anything else if you like.

Did you enable any traces? That would show depending on what you have checked. I was gonna try enabling a few to see what it does but it's not like it would ruin anything. I'll report back though to see if I can recreate it.

I'm on Domination TW Rom which is stock based. This doesn't work. I can see it quickly flashes the Home screen but it goes to the lock pin entry screen immediately. Pressing the Power button right when it flashes the home screen doesn't work either. Maybe Samsung fixed it in 4.1.1 or the awesome guys at Domination fixed it.

This is not an exploitation of lockscreen shortcuts. This an exploitation of a secured lockscreen and bypassing it completely. This means the shortcuts are irrelevant because they can access EVERYTHING on your phone.

Doing it only a couple of times may not work. It took me almost 20 to make it happen the first time. Then it took only twice. Again 4 times. Once I had gotten in, I could turn the screen off and whenever I decided to look again I went straight to homescreen...no lockscreen...until I rebooted. Once I had exploited, I had access to everything on my phone. Since it only requires a little patience, anyone who is determined to get in will do so. The fact that the steps have been plastered everywhere makes it even more potentially dangerous. The problem lies in TW framework and 4.1.1 is not immune. As best as I can tell, neither is 4.2 since it affects the Note II as well.
From my understanding, you need to be able to click a shortcut on the lock screen for the exploit to work? Unless I read it wrong..
Hence, no shortcuts on my lock screen, no exploit.
*edit - nevermind I see how it is done.. however after about 30 tries I cannot reproduce on my stock S3

This whole issue for me is hilarious. The blogs post the actual instructions for people to do this so then possibly wanna be thiefs will actually know bow to do this. Either way. Most people who steal phones don't care about your personal info. Its easier to Google a hard reset on most phones through hardware keys than by fiddleing with security codes and special methods mentioned here. What's to stop someone from taking my sgs3 and booting it into recovery through hardware keys and resetting it. Pop out the Sim card and its all theirs, brand spanking new. No special methods. Lol . seriously guys. This is why I don't use lock screen passwords or codes. My phone is either always with me or in a locked area. Its my own fault if I leave it for someone to steal. What's even funnier is I saw a similar exploit for the iPhone. Same deal. Hook it up to itunes and its reset. Wow.....

Your kinda speaking ignorantly maybe where you live is like that but in bigger cities Like New York your thing might be stolen by just using it on the train. On any train crime happens anywhere in ny, so sometimes is not "someone's fault" that their phone is gone.

Sorry if that's what it sounded. I live in a big city too. I meant this more to the fact that no one asks for their stuff to be stolen but this "exploit" seems silly when smart phones comes with a hard hard reset option. So no matter how much security you place your stuff is viable to be erased . unless you have other means of recovering that data.
