[VRTHEME][JB 4.1.2][SecMms.apk] Messaging text bubbles & emoticons - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Following on from my ICS Messaging text bubbles & emoticons for stock or stock based ICS roms thread, I've made a VRTheme for that uses five bubble styles together with the HTC Emoticons for JellyBean roms.
Flash this VRTheme via CWM to replace just the sms bubbles & emoticons in the stock (and stock based) JellyBean (4.1.2) Samsung messaging app. (SecMms.apk). It will not change the text colour.
Unlike in my old thread, I cannot take requests for alternative bubble or emoticon styles but feel free to swap any pngs yourselves (make sure your bubbles are named correctly as they're different to the ICS file names)
If you're unsure whether it will work on your rom, make sure the path to SecMms.apk is \preload\symlink\system\app\SecMms.apk and take a backup first.

Yep, great idea.
I'd be happy to see it used more
BTW, there's a load more emoticons here if you'd rather use those.

I doubt it but, if you attach your mms.apk, I'll take a look if you like...

Thank you very much for your offer to help . I did some reading ...some more reading , and managed to get it done by myself , I have used your HTC emoticons and modified my Mms.apk. It worked. I hated the green little creatures so much , it made me root the phone and tinker with it only to get rid of them Thank you again.

thank you

I guess the Goo.im server is offline at the moment.
This happens sometimes as it's free hosting and therefore not 100% reliable.
Advice: try again later

Hi Spannaa..... Your advice did work & I was able to download all your files.... but, I might be a noob here ... a little help is required....I have flashed Siyah kernel thru CWM & I tried installing your files but nothing has changed. It's a flashable zip - just copy it to your sd card, reboot into recovery (CWM) and flash it (like you flashed Siyah).

If the flash didn't fail then both the bubbles & the emoticons should be there.
Bubbles: Messaging > Settings > Bubble style
Emoticons: when writing an sms - settings > insert smiley
[EDIT] You said you were on Stock Official Firmware 4.1.2-XWLSN - I assume you're rooted? [/EDIT]

It won't be Avast - I'm running that too.
If you're rooted, I can't see why it doesn't work.
Two ways to check:
Do you have a vrtheme-backup folder on your sd card?
If so, does it have \preload\symlink\system\app\SecMms.apk inside it?
If not, the flash was unsuccessful.

Yes, I do have the vrtheme-backup folder on my sd card and it does not have the preload\symlink\system\app\SecMms.apk inside it ... but when the flash completed it did say that it was successful..... What should I do next?... Should I flash once more?
Also the path to vrtheme-backup folder is- /storage/extSdCard.... Is this right?

[MetaMorph] Gingerbread for CM 6+

I "ported" (very little work by me) Krispy's Metamorph for the GSM Hero to the G1, so that we may have a Gingerbread looking theme. I also included the animations and color folder from gingerbread which he didn't have included. The pictures are from Krispy's page, as they are essentially the same theme.

This changes the fonts, animations, and framework images to gingerbread style.
Use metamorph to flash this, and then use CyanogenMod settings -> User Interface to change the Clock, Date, and Notifications ticker to white.
Update 1.1: Added Krispy's changes.
v1.1 now has both animation- and theme-packages in seperate metamorph directories. That way you can choose whether you want those animations or not ... or just the animations Also it has cleaned up contactframes (aka they be gone now) as well as cleaned up waiting spinners (no more jagged edges there).

Update 1.2: Added Browser and Dialer images, and a few animation .xmls that were missing (none that will likely see)
Update 1.3: Added dark menus (when menu button is pressed)

What animations would these be, IE the orange light border when you hit the start/end of a menu etc.
Would this work on the Hero also, i thinking kind of yes :S

i'm not necessarily sure exactly which they would be. I used to have animations off, and it's been awhile since i've seen the old ones.
But for sure, the animations of when you unlock the screen and when a menu pops up are different.
Also when a menu pops up (flys up in a semi circle from the bottom right corner), the background fades out over a few seconds, that may or may not have been there before because I was never looking for it, but I think that's new too.
To answer your other question, this probably will work on the hero also, and probably any mdpi device that is running Froyo, but i'm not going to make any promises due to me not having a Hero!
As with Krispys Metamorph, installs the fonts but not the framework-res
tried it 3 times now, its strange some people can get it to work some cant :S

Interesting.. Metamorph needs 1 Root, 2 Busybox, 3 adequate space on /system, 4 proper naming. might be something else you need, but check all those. Try using Titanium Backup to re-install busybox
Also try applying the framework-res individually instead of Apply All, if you haven't do that already

One stupid question though: what exactly is CRT animation? is it a boot animation?
I don't see such thing during boot; just black screen (besides samsung stuff). Do I need to activate it somewhere?

No.. You need custom rom also .. The one whcih has all deodexed..
Deodexed means :
Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace files (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything.

edit : I rooted phone, because it is easy to unroot it .. but im keeping stock rom still ... i want ota upd and rest.. And to be honest, im bit tired with flashing.. (one of the reasons i bought GN)

Thank you.
First time I'm tempted to forego the warranty and root the phone. Assuming that's all that's needed?
Sorry I'm not familiar with the term 'deodexed.'

No foregoing warranty... If needed just unroot and you'll have your "warranty" back! =] And you need a deodexed rom... so you need to install a custom rom... such as GummyNex, AOKP, or CM9 builds, etc.
Awesome

Next Line Mod? que es de?
Ooow! This one is nice mate! Finally a black one without the white lines between te messages! Many thanks!
Too bad there is not a choice for those less adventurous to just change the color scheme.
Ah, well - looks good on your phones!
The divider lines between texts are removed. It's changing two lines in two xml files

[MOD] AOSP 4.1.1 MMS.APK with Enter-button instead of Smiley-key

After a lot of fumbling I've finally managed to mod the aosp mms.apk in Android 4.1.1 to display an Enter-key instead of that F***ING STUPID Smiley-button which has always been a major pain in my butt in the AOSP-messaging app because I like to properly format my messages! :silly:

WTH does that even mean?
Seriously though I didn't add anything I just removed about 10 characters in the code of the mms.apk to stop it from requesting the "smiley-keyboard"...
Nice

not smiley but emoji like in mms feature in cm 9
edit : found solution just replace mm.apk with cm9 mms.apk and its work like full stamp / original stamp, enter new line, and emoji support
Thank you sir.
I have a hox, but this is a very good mod. That smiley button was really irritating me.

awesome work, runns great on my HTC ace
@Peggy
Seriously...nice one, man!
I really like the stock app and favour it over any others but that smiley key gets/got right on my tits!
I can't see how anyone would prefer that over a line break key....each to their own I suppose.
Just the ticket now tho.
Good ****, brudda

Have you checked if the original MMS.apk of your ROM doesn't come with an option to change the key within the app? Open the Messaging-app hit menu then Settings and look for it at the bottom. Also, XperianZe Rom is a samsung-based ROM not an AOSP-based one, so I imagine it's quite possible that the AOSP-Mms.apk doesn't work in it's original form on that ROM because of framework-differences...
If the option is not there, you'd have to disassemble the Mms.apk of your ROM and mod the xml-code more or less according to my apk.
The desired option would probably be in res/layout/compose_message_activity.xml
Thank You But...

Yeah, I'm using UltimaRom too and it's kinda great
http://apkmultitool.com/ is what I use if you want to give it a try... Just make a Nandroid-Backup in case you mess up (which you hopefully will a few times ) before replacing system-apks in case you're not that familiar with ADB yet.
thx!

this will add Reboot option to XS. I just used the file from XTXperience 4 ROM, credits go to niaboc79, i just gathered them and made a flashable zip. it also contains the systemUI. It works only on deodexed stock rom!

It won't work on stock .50 unless you have deodexed the frameworks.
@ares: Look in your framework folder and see if you have any .odex files. If so, this wont work for you.
All you need for it is the android.policy.jar. But beware with the XTX and KA roms, cause there are 2 versions of the android.policy.jar; 1 for small app and 1 for no small apps.

Unfortunately, I haven't deodexed a ROM before, but here is a post of someone deodexing the stock files.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888222
Good luck.
P.S. Why not try one of the ROMs that are deodexed and have this included, as well as many other great features?

Will make a Backup and try this on My Xperia U.......
Works lovely, gave me the toggles, battery % and reboot option. Perfect
Edit: Small bug is that when the phone boots it should say 'checking internal storage for errors' or something similar, instead it says 'USB storage removed'
