Upgrade and SERO accts - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey all its upgrade time, and was on my sprint page about to upgrade, and it stated that I would have to add an 'additional' $10 fee, and also there was an $36 activation fee
Is this a new fee (currently have a epic 4g touch SII wimax 4g plan with a $10 fee added on)
And what happened to not having to pay an activation fee if you did it online?
Did sprint change this too, or is it because I have an older heavily discounted acct?
After all the taxes/fees the 'upgrade' comes to $400. Might as find a used one I was thinking

The website is saying that you need to change your account because it doesn't handle or understand SERO. The fees aren't added until you activate the phone. Because you're on SERO, you have to buy the phone first, but don't activate it online. Instead call the SERO folks. It's either 888-876-8381 or 888-882-4030. I don't remember which one I use.
You won't have to pay the additional $10 fee (you already are), and you might be able to sweet talk them into eliminating the $36 activation fee.

Thanks for the help

They will take of the WiMax $10 fee and put the LTE $10 fee. It's the same thing basically, they just have different names for that $10 add-on. My bill didn't change when I switched.

Before I can say anything how much are you paying now a month? If your paying $40 a month then after you upgrade you will pay $50. No way around that. As for $36 activation fee, you will have to pay that. You may get it back once it's in your bill. Or you can call sero line and order phone and have them waive activation fee at that time. If you need sero phone number let me know or dial *2 from the phone that's on the sero account. Remember you can only upgrade sero phones at sprint store or over phone at sero department. In the end you should be paying $199 plus $36 activation fee and with taxes depending on where you live it should be around $247. If your paying $40/month then add an extra $10 from then on. Reason I know is because I just upgraded a phone for a family member on sero. Hopefully this helps. Let us know what you find out.
By the way, your able to update on the website if you log on with your sero account but there's a chance the system may screw thing up. Your better off going into a store so this way if things don't look right you don't have to go through with the deal.

From an inside perspective. Sero 500 is currently 30 $ a month for Dumb phones. To use a smart phone you have to be on the Sero Premium 500 that is 40 $ a month. As well all know there is an additional 10 $ mrc for Premium Data. If you are currently paying 50 $ total a month on a WiMax device and upgrade to an LTE device online it will mention the 10 $ mrc. The SOC code for WiMax vs LTE is different and one will be dropped when the other is added.
The only 30 $ a month Smart Phone plan out there on Sprint is the Sprint Wireless Advantage Club "SWAC" accts. Its the SWAC 500. It still costs 40 $ in the end because of the 10 $ Premium Data. But non the less its 30 $ a month for 500 Anytime Mins and Unlimited everything else.

The first store I went to they said they would have to change my plan and it would add 10 bucks a month. Went to another and all the guy had to do was call in keep my price. I'm on sero premium, $40 plus the $10.

okay this is the part that is weird, I have the $40 + $10 plan (500 minutes, unlimited data), and on my log-in page, it shows that the phone is $299 + taxes + activation for my ugrade
went to amazon and its $199 upgrade (of course I know I cant use that link to do a employee referral upgrade
the issue I am having, is my local stores are telling me that they can't even access my account I have to call in, due to my account type ( I was hoping to "reserve in store" so I could just pick the phone up, I hate waiting for mail shipments)
amazon will let me upgrade, but I always get concerned with getting my account readjusted, back to my referral account over the phone with sprint. I have heard people do it, but some also hit brick walls
guess I will call the sero line direct, and take a shot that way,
thanks for the help guys

Sprint is so arbitrary these days, made a few calls today, and now they state, on three separate calls that since I have a referral account that the upgrade price is $299, and even over the phone all referral accounts also require the $36 activation fee
I even brought up the $100 difference with amazon, and all three reps stated that the upgrade price differential is due to the difference in the monthly rate.
Maybe I am too nice or something, as I keep getting screwed by sprint reps over the last few months
I mean at that price and tax, its basically $400, local Craigslist is $500, why go on contract for only $100 savings
Sorry for the rant

My bad, I priced the phone at the amazon price. Your right about the sprint price of $299 for sprint. One way to get $100 off the price is calling retention and asking them for a customer loyalty credit. I've gotten that credit for my last 2 upgrades. This way at least it's technically only 199. Good luck

I understand your dilemma. I would just buy a gs3 on swappa.com or craigslist. Then wait for the announcement of the gs4 and use your renewal then. $400 is too much to sign a 2 year contract. Good luck with your decision.

It is not possible to change to a Sero plan unless you had it in the past and somehow convince them to give it back.

Phones at that price on craigslist are usually bad or its too good to be true. When a gs3 sells higher than that I highly doubt a note 2 at 350 is legit.

OK I really want the Nexus but I'm not due for an upgrade. You're all smart, help!

Like the title says, I'm not due for an upgrade until next December but I'd really like to dump my current phone for a Nexus... it's just dog-slow, has no support from any Dev communities nor support from Samsung themselves...
With that said I'm wondering if anyone has found a way around having to pay the full $800 to get a new Nexus device. I went in to Best Buy today to see if I could extend my contract by another 2 years but he said the best I could do is to start a Family Plan, move my number to that and add a new line so I'd be paying $130 a month. I don't think so.
It's important that I keep my current plan too since I have unlimited data.
If anyone knows any little life-hacks to getting a new Nexus at $300 or less, let me know!
Oh, I'm on Verizon. So, LTE please!
What phone do you have right now?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
U could always add a line. Get a hold of an old verizon flip phone that doesn't require data and put the new line on that. This way you always get revolving upgrades too

Getting an extra is not a bad plan, but the cost adds up eventually. And correct me if I'm wrong, but verizon is not doing the traditional new every two years updates anymore. I think your best plan is to wait until the year and a half marker (I know I get some discount at that point) or buy a phone full retail.

It's, what, $10 to add a line a month, dummyphone of course. $240 +
$300 = $540 still $110 below retail.

Nm. Just realized you probably did 10x 12 for a 2 year contract. Yea, that's the thought process I had too. It'll basically be like getting a loan for the phone, without interest

Retail is $650, not $800.
Frankly dude, take it from someone that HATES contracts and doesn't do them, just save up some cash.
What's the ETF on your current device now? Sounds like it might be cheaper to pay the ETF on your current line, and sign a contract for a new line and get the phone for $299.
The problem with getting another line is I'm currently on an individual plan paying about $80 a month.
Moving to a plan that I could add a line would put me at $130 a month... definitely not worth it when I'm already ready to fork over $300 for a phone.
I'm thinking best bet is getting lucky on eBay or Craigslist

Verizon's site says "You may terminate service for any reason within 14 days of activation. If you purchased a wireless device at a promotional price at the time of activation, you must return it within the device return period to avoid being assessed an Early Termination Fee of $175, or $350 if you purchased an Advanced Device" so I'm assuming $350 to terminate.
Not only that but by making a new contract I'd lose my unlimited data, and I use a TON of data.

LOL like the other person said, you better go back and read the fine print. That $250 is a seperate Amazon fee in addition to Verizon's ETF. Basically you just screwed yourself $350 Verizon Fee + $250 Amazon Fee = $600.

So you paid for $600 no tax for your Rezound and are not on contract? That's not too bad. Saved $50 plus tax over getting it from Verizon.
They may hook you up with an early upgrade. I went in ready to pay full retail as my contract was not up until November of next year. The guy asked me why I didn't want to upgrade, not sure why I was able to upgrade but I did.

classic plan vs value plan

can some one explain to me these plan
cuz i see that the galaxy s3 is going to be free with a clasic plan http://www.tmonews.com/2012/11/t-mobile-holding-two-day-samsung-sale-on-november-16th-17th/
so i want to know what is the deal
value plans are cheaper but you pay the full price of the phone with them , classic plans you get the phone cheaper but theyre more expensive
Was on my account when I read the OP so I copied and pasted what I found. On the CU adding a line is $10.00 per line, and the VP is $25.00
Hope this helps.

They're the same when it comes to the services offered and the requisite 2 year agreement. The only difference is the price and phone subsidies.
The idea behind a Value Plan is that you get NO subsidies when it comes to phones and so, T-Mobile passes the savings to you. On a Classic Plan, you can get subsidized prices for phones, and, as a result, you pay more month-to-month. Now you need to decide and do you research and see what is the better option for you.
In my case (I need 4 lines for a Family Plan, and I buy my own phones off Criaglist/Ebay, or up-front), the Value Plan was a better idea. However, if you need a phone and can get in on some deals, then the Classic Plan may be better.
It all boils down to pure economics, nothing is ever free, it's just these american carriers have brainwashed the public that phones are "cheap" and plans are "expensive". And that's why most Americans are tied for 2 years to a large wireless bill and aging hardware.
i saw that the galaxy s3 was going to be free with 2 years agreement so i decide to get it and just pay 200 to cancel the contract and put it on the value plan
Since I have been with TMO almost 8 years we have been getting IMO great deals on phones. "Loyalty" department calls it corporate discount. At the end of Oct. I replaced my wife's Mytouch 4g with an S2, cost me 126.00 shipped overnight with a 100.00 rebate. Then ordered my Note 2 for only 250.00 shipped overnight and it came with a 50.00 rebate. Yes we signed a new contract but since the Mytouch was a "warrenty issue" we only had to extend one contract and to top everything we chose which contract to extend. So with 2 new phones under 300.00 and a contract extention to June of next year. You just can't go wrong with TMO.
You do have to have a silver tongue and negotiate. I call it playing the "corporate game"
Going along with the post 2 up, keep in mind, regardless of your carrier, you're always paying for your phone subsidy. Carriers don't really make money on devices. Why do you think you get locked into a 5GB or UL data feature when you upgrade on a classic plan?
I like the value because you have more flexibility. If I want to switch to a 5GB with hotspot, I can do it any time I want. Or pull off data all together. Also, no bs upgrade fees, and when you're finished paying off the phone, it's done. Unlike the classic or any other carrier where you keep paying for it.
The value plan eligibility is changing so I'd check in the coming months if you're eligible to switch.. If you're interested.

If you plan on keeping your phone for 2 years, go with the value plan. It is very hard to resell a phone that has been purchased on the value plan until it is paid off.
There is never a scenario where the classic plan is cheaper than the value plan. Unless you call customer service and they give you a phenomenal deal on a phone.

Exactly. So with the big push to get customers on the value plan, which one do you think T-mobile prefers? They aren't going to try to get you onto a plan that will make them less money in the long run.

Umm, yea that is what I said. They want people on the value plan because you don't own your phone. If you don't pay your bill, the IMEI gets blacklisted and your phone is useless. On the classic plan, you own your device which is much better for people that switch phones often.

The only other scenario that's cheaper than a value plan is if you have a grandfathered plan. That's my dilemma right now. I'm holding on to my grandfathered plan as long as I can but I really want the Note 2 as well, but I don't have $500 to outlay up front even if I get it back as a rebate (which of course they'll try to screw over).
So I'm going to take a chance and call loyalty on November 16 to see what they can give me.

We are very happy with our service, lastnigh I bought the new Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for 250.00 with a 50.00 mail in rebate. Unlimited data, talk, text, and hotspot for 20.00 a month
Let me ask you, you said your IMEI could get blacklisted for non payment. Couldn't you simply flash your phone and use another carrier or pre pay sim?
lowandbehold said:
Umm, yea that is what I said. They want people on the value plan because you don't own your phone. If you don't pay your bill, the IMEI gets blacklisted and your phone is useless. On the classic plan, you own your device which is much better for people that switch phones often.

Value plan doesn't mean you don't own the phone. An EIP plan means you don't own the phone.
T-Mobile certainly can't blacklist phone you own ( ie Google purchased nexus 4) for non payment on a value plan. Best they can do is send you to collection for breaking contract on 2 year value plan unless you pay them the etf.

That seems like a fantastic price ($20)for unlimited data, talk, text, and hotspot. Are you sure that is what you are getting?
If it is, can you show which plan you are on? I want to see if I can duplicate the same deal.

On the Classic Unlimited with international text, discounted international to the phillipines, with 6 lines.
The Tabs data is usually 35 bucks a month. But again tmo dropped the ball on me. Earlier in the day i had placed the order and i paid 250. Cash. Well it was weird as i didnt recieve any text or email notifications. When i got home from i called and 1. They put in the numbers wrong and ordered the Tab 7" 2. The damn thing was on bo. I wasn't to happy so after 30 minutes with loyaty I got to a sells agent who hooked it up. He couldn't give me anymore discount on the phone as I am already on the "corporate discount" he did give me the plan for 20 bucks. Plus a 50.00 rebate form.
I did have to extend a full 2 years on the Tab as its an added line.
Last month my wife got her SGH-989 for 26.00 after 100. Rebate and no contract extention
Did I mention my monthly bill is under 300.00

Only overseas or in Canada. T-mobile and AT&T share an IMEI database now so AT&T will block it as well.

Yes, you are right. I was speaking strictly in regards to purchasing the Galaxy Note 2 on EIP and not using the value plan and BYOD.

Exactly what I was just thinking, just got mine maybe 3 weeks ago
Unfortunately I can't login to order or check it out, that portion of their site has been down all day! Is this a repeat of the nexus 4 debacle? Are all of ya'll crashing their servers?
Anyway, late last night/early this AM, I was logged in, and my upgrades available weren't showing the cheap/free prices. I was still showing the GSIII for $150. I wonder if this is due to my account, it's a loyalty unlimited family plan they offered us a few years ago. Note that all lines on the account are eligible for upgrades (I'm actually still using my G1 as my daily driver!), so what gives? Is this for new accounts only? Lame. Guess I better call support and find out, but I'm kinda pissed if it's for new accounts only. I was going to add a line, and get 3 free GSIII's, presently a $450 option for me, even with plan renewal. So much for free, unless anybody knows something I'm missing? It says it's a web only deal, so I should be able to upgrade online, right?
can't log in wtf is that about.
I tried online and couldn't got through so visited store, they do have the phone but it costs changing the unlimited plan which for individual is ~$95/pm in classic plan and ~$85/pm in the value plan. Untill you receive the rebate, you pay the offered price and then you can change the plan.
I'm paying $65 with unlimited web (Even More) on myTouch 4g, and $20-30 a month seems too much to me.
I'll wait on Black Friday to see if I get something chipper somewhere ...
Be forewarned. I just got back from my local T-Mobile store. Yesterday and all month I was told I was eligible for early upgrade. And today I am not. I was told yesterday to wait until today to upgrade because the phone would be free. This sucks. They are trying to get it corrected. Maybe it has to do with thier site being down. I hope so. Otherwise I am going to take my 10 years of loyalty and go elsewhere when my contract is done.

I went to the Tmo store today and walked out with my new S III. I have a family plan with 5 lines. My line was up for renewal. I had to switch to the value plans (I was still using a My Faves plan) but ended up saving quite a bit on my monthly bill.
This deal is not Web only - the deal wouldn't show up for me, either when I tried to upgrade on the 'net.
If you have a line up for renewal, you can get one of the free phones (you do have to pay full price up front and rebate comes in the mail)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Well, just as a warning for everyone, it is most certainly not free, even with the rebate. It will still cost at least $200 in the end. Basically, you pay $200, and you'll eventually get the rebate back for it. However, they're adding an extra $20 per month for the first 20 months to cover the discount... which will end up costing $200.
So, yeah... I'm not sure if anyone else had that same issue, but that's what the salespeople at my local T-Mobile store did to me. I needed the upgrade anyways, as my old HTC G2 is starting to show its age, but this is silly, just charge me $200 and be done with it, calling it free and still shelling out $200 in the end is not what was advertised.
Costco also has a promotion today and tomorrow with $150 MIR (required Unlimited Talk/Text Classic plan + Unlimited 4G data plan)
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/11/costco-gets-in-on-the-two-day-samsung-sale-fun/
I'm eligible for upgrade and having Unlimited Talk/Text Classic plan + Unlimited 4G data plan. I walked into a T-mobile store today and they gave me the price $299.99 for the phone (with $300 MIR) + $37.50 tax + $18 Activation fee = $355.49
Compare to what Costco offers:
$179.99 (with $150 MIR) + 11.25 tax + $0.00 activation free + free shipping + free GS3 accessory = $191.24
I think i'll go with Costco. lower upfront + cheaper after the rebate
If you have corporate or student discount options - check on the advantage pricing - I got $175 + $50 MIR for each of my GS3s (ordered three - signed up for new plan).
At the time costco had it for $149.99 each online. Note I ordered mine 2 weeks ago.

Im returning this tomorrow, its not worth it. I hope I can get all my money back, coz accdg to the gs3 box, if returned they charge you 50 $ re stocking fee!
Heres my receipt: (remove *)

Why are they charging you so much for the phone? Are you not not eligible for a upgrade at this time?
The GS3 is suppose to be $299.99 minus $300 rebate with a classic plan or
$199 minus $200 rebate with a unlimited value plan.

the Value plan isn't subsidized and has 20 payments of $20 (or $15 on some cheaper phones) applied to your bill to pay for the device.
the Classic plan is subsidized, but costs around $20 more... so at > 20 months, the Value Plan is cheaper by $20/mo.

[Q] GS3 with T-Mobile Advantage?

I am planning on switching to T-Mobile and I did some research to try and find the best deal possible since I am going to get into a new 2 year contract. I am a college student attending the University of Ohio and my university doesn't have a direct relationship with the school. I found a discount via the T-Mobile Advantage program and I attached the flyer here.
You get
A $50 account credit with a new activation (expires on 12/31)
Waived activation fees
10% discount
You have to call CS to activate I am not sure whether you can do it online. There is a promo code in the flyer which you have to mention. That discount is also affiliated with the student discount website Student rate. I am not sure whether you actually have to be a student or not.
Has anyone used this discount before??
Well with everything make sure you read the fine print, always little things to reduced the discounts you're getting. You sure you want tmobile they are not definitely not the best company in terms of customer service and business model. Anywho you should definitely check out best buy, they usually have really good deals on phone.
Right now they have the s3 for 179.99 way cheaper than what you would get it at tmobile around 300 or so. Make sure you call them because for some reason tmobile doesn't allow in store pickup(****ty business model). Also I don't know how all that works when you starting off, I was just upgrading good luck.

Examine if you really need to enter a 2-year contract.
Look at the Montly 4G plans. What are your needs - how many minutes and how much data do you need ?
I went with the 100minute/unlimited texting/5Gb plan for $30/mo. Even buying the phone up-front I'm saving a great deal over locking myself into a contract - a contract that wouldn't even give me what I actually wanted.
I made the mistake of going contract with Sprint on my first phone off of my family's the family plan. Overpaid for service I barely used. I don't see myself going back to contract plans - you overpay in the long-run - much more than if you just bought the phone and then paid a lower rate for the service instead of the hidden fee of paying them back for that "free" or "reduced cost" phone.
For instance, if I went with Verizon and paid $80/mo for their cheapest smartphone plan, that's $1200 more over two years than I'm paying now. Take away the $450 I spent on the phone - that's still $750. I could literally buy a brand new phone with THAT, even and two great-condition used ones. Maybe I'm a cynical jerk, but carrier subsidising is just a way to trick you into paying more money.

It really is for most cases. Just some people like to aim high and go for an s3 and not everyone has 700 upfront to pay a company. While you end up paying more in a contract most people get paid every 2 to 4 weeks and are satisfied paying a fee monthly and two years is not very long. After the two years you can always take that phone you bought and get into those no contact based companies like metro etc.

[Q] It it advisable?

Since Tmobile has discontinued selling devices at subsidized prices anymore, let's say, if one were to buy Note 3 from Wirefly or Staples for $299 with a new line on a classic plan (they are still allowing that), and cancel the service after 14 days and pay the ETF of $200 plus the activation $35 (which can be waived) and first month's service fees $80 (minimum), then the total comes to $579 or $614. Has anyone tried this? Will Tmobile blacklist imei once you cancel the contract?

No reason to blacklist if u paid the money

I think y'all are gonna be disappointed whoever tries. Carriers got themselves covered on this. Best thing is tmobile's monthly plan.

I would do this myself but I'm out of the country on vacation. But someone should just call tmo and just ask that. But if you early term and pay etf they can't blacklist your phone. But there is still the thought if you do early terminate you may have to pay out the phone possibly. Idk.
A few years back when I worked for one of the major carriers, if you did not return the phone when you canceled within the grace period then you would have to pay the full price of the phone and if you didn't then they would send the bill to collections. This phone is awesome but not worth the harassment of debt collectors and getting your credit score screwed.
I know on amazon you had to keep the service for 6 months. If you didn't you had to return the phone or pay the full price.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
I read up on all TM stipulations about 2 weeks before the note 3 came out. I'm not sure about buying the phone on amazon but if you buy it though TM, you are basically refinancing the phone. You're paying a little more each month (I think for me it's like 15 it varies depending on how much you put down), plus you get the jump program included in your insurence. Also if you cancel, you will have to pay off the remaining balance on the phone's "loan".
OP this is exactly how I got both my note 2. Tmo had just stopped the classic plan. Walmart still offered it though. I signed up then the very next day switched to a value plan, paid the 200 fee ( on one of them because I sweet talked the Rep and got the other waived) and was set. I got me and the wife note 2s for 600 bucks total (this is when they were still the hot phone)

Thanks for that info!
Too late, both, Wirefly and Staples, have now taken down the classic plans and are showing the full price for Note 3 Oh well, you snooze, you definitely lose! I will wait for some time b4 the price comes down a little...
