Sky go apk - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

Just thought I would ask the question, has anyone got sky go to work on there custom ROM? Here's what to do if you have just rooted your kindle and not installed a custom ROM!
You need to have root on your stock kernel/ROM.
1. Install root explorer
2. Modify build.prop in the system folder....(where it says amazon kindle fire 2 replace it with Galaxy Nexus, where it says android on the next line replace it with Google) exit and save and reboot.
3. Download ota rootkeeper and temp unroot
4. Download sky go and away you go.
As I said if anyone can get this to work on rooted custom ROM let me know
Edit.... BTW I'm not using a nexus its my kf2
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

any chance of a screen shot of how the build.prop should look?
Mine has reference to KFOT, Kindle, Amazon, Blaze Tablet. Tried changing a few different fields but still had no joy getting sky go from the play store (Gplay3.8.17.apk) - I get the error "device not compatible with this version"
which exact fields need changing?
Or am I doing something else wrong?
I've rooted my kindle and not installed a custom ROM. The only addition I've made is Apex Launcher.
Thanks
long time lurker, first time poster!

Googly sky go apk download and download it. Keep away from play and similar sites. Preferably a torrent if u have a torrent client. Its free any way so not illegal to download

Ok thanks. Just wondering. I like the stock interface, but don't want to use the stock ROM until I know root wont get borked with a OTA update.
I have TWRP so I would think even if i did get an OTA update though I could just boot into TWRP and flash CM7 or something. Am I correct in thinking this? Or could an OTA update kill TWRP too?

Sorry for the noob question. I've flashed roms with clockworkmod hundreds of times, but can someone please give me a set of step by step instructions on how to install this properly? I'm not familiar with teamwinrecovery, but I do not see the kindle fire on the list of supported devices. thanks

Basically the same as clockworkmod. Backups/Nandroid is the same premise, wiping partitions prior to flashing works the same. A how-to definitely exists. A simple google search yielded this post which should answer any questions you have. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414626

I don't understand why anyone would need to see pics of a rooted stock rom. It looks the same as a stock amazon kindle fire rom.
[Edit] I didnt see at first that it's got ADW built in... so I guess if you haven't seen ADW before then maybe pics are useful [/edit]
This is great Biff. Just what I was looking for. Thank you for this
---Jay---
I know this sounds dumb, but TWRP will NOT recognize this zip for some reason. I can see every other ROM in my root directory, but I just can't get it to show this ROM in the Install section. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I'm not new to this in the slightest but I'm stumped.
*edit* Nevermind. Renaming it fixed it.
Is this the Biff from the G1 days?
Just a side note. Not sure if you care but changing the wallpaper crashes the app trying to change it. I was able to change it using Themes for ADW Launcher but they reset back to the Amazon ones.
I wont be using this but always like to congratulate devs on there work! Good job! Keep up the good work!

Yes. You can set one for default if you like. If you set one and decide you want to change, just go to manage applications and clear the defaults for that launcher.

Problem with phone and Galaxy Nexus Toolkit

i was running the Android Revolution HD Rom and it was great, and i saw that the AOKP had an update of the rom with the 4.0.4 build so i downloaded that and flash it but since then my phone its stuck on the Google Screen.
I can acces the recovery mode and all, but i dont have a rom on the sdcard to flash, and when i go to the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit im having trouble cause it says, this application has failed to start becauser AdbWinApi.dll was not found. Re-Installing the application may fix this problem, but heres the thing i can acces the aplication and i can do certain things with it, but if i go to the extract and flash google factory stock rom the aplication runs the setup but my phone doesnt do anything i put it on fastboot and nothing. other thing im trying to do is push a rom to the phone but when i do that the aplication says no device found.
I dont know that to do guys can anyone help me please?
i just got this phone two days ago and i havent use it much, its frustrating =-/
Don't use the tool kit. Set up adb and fastboot on your computer and do it manually. There are many guides on how to do that.

Check my sig.
It'll get you ADB.
And you can push a .zip to your sd card as well.
Details outlined in post 3 of my sig under the "FAQ- Panic" section.

Did you wipe data, cache and Dalvik when flashing AOKP? I hope you did because switching ROMs and not doing that can cause these sypmtoms. Try to go into recovery and wipe those... Your device might just startup fine (although you did a lot since then that might prevent that from happening)...
Thanks for your help guys i did manage to make my phone work, put the 4.0.4 directly from google but it was kind of laggy in some areas so i went back to 4.0.2 and its running great

[Q] Halfway Rooted If That Makes Sense

So I've ran into a huge problem or what seems like a huge problem to me. I just got a new Galaxy S3 16 GB from T-Mobile last Friday. Three days later, I rooted it. I used the instructions from this guy who I now think doesn't know what he's talking about.
Can't upload the link because I'm new but it's called "How to Root T-Mobile Galaxy S3 SGH-T999" by High On Android and it's on YouTube.
Now there's me all happy getting ready to have some fun with my new root. I try downloading a game in which I need to use Titanium Backup. It tells me that I'm not rooted. I go to Superuser and it says I'm not rooted. So now I go to Root Checker and you already know what it says.... NOT ROOTED! Now I'm thinking I should do that new software update that adds Google Wallet but it want allow it probably because it's sort of rooted. So I thought to myself maybe I should just unroot it and restart all over again so I go to some unrooting instructions. It tells me to download an app called TriangleAway which also tells me that I'm not rooted. So now I can't update software, use Kies, and at the same time, can't get any benefits from being rooted. What is the problem here and what do I do?
You don't need triangle away to Odon to stock

Did you root it? We are here if you still need help.

I've only used Odin once and found it very simple. Look for the guide that says no trip root method. All you do is simply download a stock rom that already has root injected in it. Unzip the file and you should now have some file called "root666....something".tar
Place phone in download mode. Connect usb to pc and launch Odin. Make sure the phone shows up in com window and there's 2 settings you need to select auto reboot and one other setting, its in the guide. The use pda and select the tar file and flash and the phone will automatically reboot when everything's done and you're good to go
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I followed the video and no problem. After doing odin for flashing the recovery did you boot into recovery and flash the zip file you were instructed to install? Since it is and older video you must update the super user app that you install from the play store. After updating the app open it and it will tell you it needs to install new binaries. To your phone.

Same guy from the other video I took instructions from. In the description it says "Here's how to root your Sprint Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 or T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T999 or AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-i747!" I have a hard time following instructions from someone who has errors in their description in addition to following instructions from his other video and ending up posting a thread in this forum.
The SGH-T999 is the S3, so that's a typo. And I know it is accurate because it's how I rooted my phone months ago. In my signature I provide all information necessary to root, including updated files (the files he links to are outdated - use mine instead). I don't know what video you saw before, but I assure you, this one works.
Odin CWM > flash Superuser in CWM > rooted.
There are only two ways to root. This one is easier than flashing a pre-rooted firmware, wiping your data.

HUGE PROBLEM I get to the point where I get to Odin3 v3.07 but for some strange reason I can't do the part where I hit start because the whole bottom part of that window is hidden by the toolbar at the bottom(Windows 7). I ran into a similar problem on Kies where I couldn't install new firmware because the bottom part wasn't visible or hidden by the toolbar. What should I do?
I've seen this happen when changing font size from the Control Panel. "Accessibility" or "Ease of access". Could also be a custom theme. Can we get a screenshot of you running Odin?

Nvrmind I hit the button using the Tab key. But now that I got done with all that I get to the part of going to Superuser and it never asks me to Allow or Deny. So then I install Titanium Backup and when I open it, instead of it asking me for root permissions it gives me this message:
"Sorry, I could not acquire root priviledges. This application will *not* work ! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and inlcudes BusyBox, and try again.
This attempt was made using the "/system/bin/su" command."
Using CWM Touch 6.0.1.2 (which is in my signature), flash Superuser 3.2 (which is also in my signature). I warned you against using the provided flashing tools from the YoutTube videos because they are outdated. Use the files in my signature. The CWM is the newest version available, as is the Superuser, which already contains the newest binaries. I didn't build these packages because I got bored, I built them because I needed them. And it looks like you do also.
You don't need to allow Superuser root access. Well, you may for some options within the app, but not for giving other apps root access.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but if su is in /system/bin (it shouldn't be), then you need a symlink to /system/xbin. Or just flash the version I provide in my signature, which puts it in the proper place to begin with (it will remove the not working root app/binaries).
Also, if you have Set DNS installed, remove it. It has a tendency to prevent root access from working sometimes.

Sorry, I actually meant to reply to Android_Monsters as I'm still using his method.
This takes two minutes, tops. You don't need the toolkit. The toolkit is very useful for sure (easy adb, for one; odin tar creation, etc.), but I think in this particular case, less is more. Also, the toolkit contains outdated CWM/Superuser.
You are trying to reinvent the wheel. Just borrow mine for crying out loud.

Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 stock KitKat no touchwiz

Hi everyone,
I'm very new to android, my parents have crappy Samsung phones (Galaxy mini, Galaxy pocket). My family (including myself) are long time Mac and iOS users (and loving it). A friend gave me this tablet and its pretty good but slow as. I hate touchwiz but I like the stock android nexus devices run on. I am an absolute idiot when it comes to android, so please keep it simple. Basically I want stock KitKat with none of the Samsung rubbish. Something fast and simple. Please note I don't have a PC or have access to one so Mac instructions are a must. Thanks!

Try Nolekat V2.1 debloated. Whit the Aroma installer you can select how much you want to debloat.
Ok thanks ill try it tomorrow!
Simple solution, no root or comp required:
1. Download and install GoLauncher EX from the Play Store.
2. Reboot device.
3. When prompted which app to use to complete action, Select GoLauncher and set it as default app.
If not prompted upon seeing the home screen, press the home button to bring up the app request box.
This doesn't modify or remove anything from your device's system partition, leaving all warranties (if you care) intact, but it will give you a vanilla android style interface to use instead of Touchwiz.
As far as I know, Touchwiz should no longer run in the background.
It has a paid version too, but the free version is well made imo.

Set it up with SlimNole debloat and its great. Really fast and I would recommend it.

From my understanding, the " tar.md5" file would be for Odin (or equivalent program), and requires the computer.
Recovery flash files are usually ".zip" or ".img"
Renaming the file won't work because the hash check will fail (hopefully), or could result in a bricked device. The "tar.md5" file contains several images, whereas recoveries rely on scripts in a "zip" file or looks for separate files for each image. (the separate images are sometimes zipped together, but should come with instructions telling u to unzip them.)
