Carrying case with retractable lanyard? - Galaxy S III Accessories

I use my phone for a golf GPS. When I walk I am thinking it could be nice to have my phone attached to a retractable cord that is attached to my golf bag so that I can easily access it without fearing I would lose it. Anyone have any suggestions? I see some nice heavy duty retractable cords on Amazon but no idea how to attach them to the phone.

I would just wrap something through your headphone jack under the case. Makes things sinple and easy.

New element eclipse case comes with a lanyard attached

Not everyone necessarily wants to spend that much money on a case though.

I see you answering for other people in multiple threads. He asked for options and he's being given them.

Universal Car Dock?

Anyone use a good Universal Car Dock that will work with the GNex?
Amazon seems to have a decent selection. I just ordered an Exomount. The have a demo video on their site and it looks pretty good.

I ordered the Skiva StrongMount today. Should have it by tomorrow.

I ordered a Empire universal mount. Don't buy it. It's advertised with GNex compatibility, the side arms push down the volume keys, even worse, It broke what I was trying to extend the arm. It was only $8, I guess I got what I paid for.

Sure. Just got it. Gonna try it out tonight.

The mount is surprisingly small. The base has some type of sticky element that allows it to attach to multiple surfaces. I'll find out tonight how well it holds up on a car ride.

Hello Jerk82,
How do you like the car mount?
Thanks
I'm wondering if I would be able to mod this with my official GSM Car Dock. My case on the phone (a small/slim TPU case. It's really popular here, I just can't remember the name) has cutouts for the pogo pins, but my phone obviously won't fit into the car dock with the case on.
Something like this would be perfect if I could "enable" the pogo pins.

I dig it. Its been on my dash since I bought it and its fallen off twice, which I think is due to the heat from being in direct sun light for months.

Clean and solid car mount......

Thought I would share my cell mount that I got. I hated big klunkie mounts and buying a new one every time I get a new phone. I found these, one would do but for hard driving two lock the phone in place and nfc works fine.

Which ones did you get? There are multiple options! This is DEFINITELY what I've been looking for!!
One ego for the vent and one fix, I didn't plan on using both but the car is a Charger SRT-8 and if I pushed the car I could make it fall off. Now in most cars this would not be an issue but I like to push it every now and then...

Okay so... the "fix" fastens to the back of the phone and the "ego" clips to the vent? That right?
The "fix" is stuck to the dash under the ego in the vent . All that's on the phone is the metal button that sticks to the magnet in the ego/fix they come with four buttons to choose from..

Alright. I'll be ordering later this morning, haha. Thanks, mate.
is there any options to use this to mount the phone higher up on the windshield like a standard suction cup mount? i really like the idea but i've use vent mounts before i dont really like how it blocks the vent and you have to look away from the road to see your phone.
Just a caution: The stick on variant doesn't like ALL dash types, no matter how well you prep. In my case Subaru WRX.
I got the fixWAY. I love it so much I ended up buying 3 of them, one for each vehicle
I got a car mount from dealextreme and it is quite good. Secure quite tightly and doesnt come loose as i encounter with other mounts.
Granted does not fit when i have my extended battery fit on the phone
Does having a magnet on the back of the phone (when mounted) cause any problems or raise any concerns for anyone?
Yeah that's been asked a few times no it does not matter actually they are 4 small magnets which produce the magnetic fields that holds the phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Here's my setup with the Tetrax Fixway mount I like it a lot. I just used a case to attach the magnet to so I wouldn't have to stick one on my actual phone. It's much more convenient I can just strap on the case when I get in the car and mount it to the Fixway either landscape or portrait.

Wireless charger

Who is dying to buy the wireless charger as soon as it becomes available?
I know it one feature i love the most from the palm pre and I'm glad its coming from stock to the galaxy s 3, but like when I tried to hack the epic 4g with the wireless charger it was messing with the compass, I'm wondering how its going to be? And if that's going to mess with the nfc too.
And will they have a wireless charger car kit?
I know these are questions many will not answer but basically I'm curious to know.
I am looking forward to the wireless charger.
I am interested to see how it will work and perform. I think there might be performance issues and maybe cause overheating. Hopefully no exploding phones.
If it works even decently ill get one lol

Samsung Wireless Charging Kit
Here's a pic:
I am, I just don't wanna pay more then 60 bux or so. I was in the uk s3 forum and there is a few guys that have modded a palm touchstone and powermat to work with the phone. Might go that way since it would be cheaper.
As long as it isn't too expensive i'm buying it.
Agreed
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I'm curious to know if the official samsung wireless charger will work in the same way/better than the powermat. Since I already have a powermat this (powermat/solutions/wicc/ ) may be a cheaper deal and a good alternative to the official samsung product.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA
Yeah, i am hoping its better than the powermat...and that two or three phones can charge at the same time on it

On the preview it looked like one phone could barely fit
You might be able to squeeze 2

Inductive Charging Mod

Feelin like a boss, have an extended battery cover... I don't like the idea of prying apart my GalNex though...
Could I wire the inductive coil to the battery directly? Like stuck them between the battery and phone contact pins? Not a good, sturdy solution, but I just don't like the idea of phone disassembly...
I also thought of making an inductive case that connects to the Pogo pins externally....
thoughts?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I think some people have done the inductive case before; it shouldn't be too difficult. That said, I don't think attaching it to the battery is a good idea.
For what its worth, the disassembly for this mod was not hard. Just take it slow -- you don't actually have to start undoing ribbon cables and the like for this one, you can do all the parts with copper tape (until you solder the tape to the coil, but that doesn't touch your phone.)
Curious about this. Let us know what you do.
Keep me updated, sounds awesomenessesseesssss

I would love a case like that

You could but you shouldn't. That would bypass the battery charging protection circuit.

I have an (expensive :/) Incipio two-layer case... Thinking maybe I could put the coil and magnets in between the silicone inner layer and hard shell outer layer...
I'm open to suggestions, I'm a little uncertain about getting the wires to line up with the pogo pins...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I just don't like the idea of taking my phone partially apart... This is a guy who takes just about everything else apart, but I feel like phones are particularly fragile, you say be careful, I say I can't upgrade if this one bites the dust.
In the end though, I don't *need* inductive charging.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I started a mod like this on an iPhone 4 that would no longer charge. I was going to have to wire directly to the battery and that was a concern. If I had another good coil and charger, I would certainly give it a go. I've taken many phones apart and never have issues. Were you using the coil from a Palm device?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I haven't actually done anything with it, but I have the Palm Touchstone setup, coil and all.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
That's what I was figuring. The mod I did was using one of those external battery power pack deals that worked with the energizer pads. I had to rip it apart for the coil but could still use as an external battery charger through the USB ports. I just don't have the pad to test my work. Ugh.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Oh that's a good idea, get an external battery case... Generally that's an iPhone-only ordeal.
Is it for Touchstone or Qi? Apparently the two are incompatible.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Well, the case would have been the easier solution but it would no longer charge through the port so a hard mod straight to the battery was necessary. What I used was just a rechargeable external battery with wireless charging that had a micro USB cable to plug into phones and also a micro USB port to recharge while away from the power pad. I didn't have the pad so the coil wasn't important to me. I just hardwired straight to the battery but don't have a pad to make sure it's working. I just reassembled the battery and can still use it as I always have with cables. I only bought it for emergencies for times away from outlets. It was an energizer battery pack.

Horizontal Dock

When you want something done, sometimes you have to do it yourself. I've been looking for a bedside horizontal dock for my phone but have been unable to find anything I like. I decided to build one out of Legos. What's also cool is the fact that I also put a qi charger inside. Now I'm able to charge my phone while docked and also use the bedside app to display the time.

Is there any way you can make a video or even just a word document explaining which pieces you used/how many or each, and then give a brief explanation of how you attacked the qi charger? I would love to build one of these myself, so any help would be much appreciated.
