[Q] Arrow-Keys like HTC Sense Keyboard in codefireX - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Is there some possibility, to activate arrow-keys (left, right, up, down) in the codefireX keyboard, as in the htc-sense-keyboard ?
Also: How do I hide the keyboard on some input-field ? HTC-original has a key bottom left to hide it !
Thanks
Micha_he
e.g.: The 'HTC_IME MOD v30' does not work unfortunately with JB4.2 !

No, but codefireX has an option to enable left and right keys in the navbar (if you enable it) and/or use volume keys to move the cursor left/right. If you must have all direction keys in the keyboard, use a keyboard that has the feature like SwiftKey or SwiftKey Flow Beta (if you want swiping).
To hide the keyboard in an input field, just press back.

Ok. I will wait for a new version of "HTC IME MOD"-keyboard.

Thanks, that was easy

Lol. I'd suggest you try SwiftKey Flow. It's a million times better than the HTC keyboard.

Ok, ok. I'll take a look to SwiftKey Flow. But the video and the screenshots i have found, show no cursor-keys

I've had a look to 'SwiftKey Flow Beta'. It's right, you can add the cursor-keys at the bottom of the keyboard, under the config-options.
Thanks to sashank....

Many of the 3rd party keyboards in the Play Store have an option to add arrow keys. Another really nice one, if you don't need gesture typing, is Smart Keyboard Pro.

Nevermind, found it ... select an unassigned quick key, select continue, select settings, select language and keyboard settings.
It won't act as a toggle (without programming a script and installing it) but it'll let you jump between the two via the HW keyboard

nothing happens with this, it just lets u select which languages u wanna use on the osd keyboard..
Just fyi...in sense roms the language switch is the magnify lense button (long press) that switches betweeen the selected languages...still struggling to find anything similar for CM roms though :/
Hi..I run into question like this before...kind of annoying little issue
One less hassle way to switch is long press(same as what you do when try to select text for copying) the text box then a a tiny window will pop up for input method option. in there you can change your input method so you hardware keyboard can be used for other input method.
And if the second language input happen to be Chinese. Suggest you use sogou input.
You only have to long press the text box once and switch to sogou input...and it has build in english mode so you can just use shift+space to taggle between sougo english/chinese mode.

Stock HTC Keyboard For CM7 With Arrows

I am using CM7 but want the stock keyboard... I can't function without the arrows and a trackball....
anyone help?
On the text fields there is now a slider to slide the cursor around. Have you tried using this? I, personally, find this more intuitive and useful than the arrow keys.
the stock keyboard I can help you get on CM7, but no arrows.

On the gingerbread keyboard you can press the spacebar and drag up to get arrow keys.

Which one exactly? Maybe this one: samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/ECR-K14AWEGSTA
If that's the case, I have one and it works, except some shortcut keys like brightness up/down, home, app drawer, and recent apps.

Oh yeah, in general, it works fine.
Just for the record, there's something else that doesn't work at the moment with ICS, switching the input language of the keyboard, only english.

I'm using ICS and a Logitec Keyboard and Mouse. Everything is working great. No problems. I'm sorry, didn't read the questions right. I'm not using USB Keyboard, I'm using a Bluetooth Keyboard with ICS
i'm using official bluetooth keyboard case from samsung and it does work except:
-can't change language (to russian in my case)
-mute button
-play\prev track\next track
-app drawer button
-options button
-multitasking button
-brightness up\down
-hide keyboard button
-voice search button
Does anyone know a fix for that?
Thanks in advance

Yeh this is a really important concern. The keyboard loses so much value if a good portion of its buttons dont work and it wasnt a cheap keyboard... There must be some app somewhere for rebinding key inputs from bluetooth keyboards...
couldn't find it on the market and forum. If you see any, please, drop a link here

How does the "Lang" button work? Do you need to hold it down to access the Russian characters?
no, it is toggled (like caps)
i have the same problem with the same keys, my keyboard is a samsung and white color, with the same order that shows in the images (am still not allowed to post outside links)
does you guys think that one app can solve this?

I'm not sure about the "Lang" key. That's new to me and does not exist the keyboards that I am used to. It may need Samsungs own input method to work.
I might give it a try though. In a worst case scenario I guess it might be possible to use the "Lang" key as "Alt Gr" to access the Russian characters. Not an ideal solution but better than nothing I guess.
Install Keytest.apk from here and note down all the scancodes for the keys in the top and the bottom row.
(Also if any qwertz (German) or azerty (french) users read this I am also looking for the scancode for "#" (German keyboard) and "*" (French keyboard) for Samsung keyboard dock or bluetooth keyboards. Seems Samsung using different codes for the extra key on 102-key layouts than a standard PC keyboard does.)

Try my new app. I just added Russian layout to it for the russian layout I put the complete US layout on ALT and ALT+SHIFT positions. You can also configure one of the function keys to turn remapping on and off but I see now that the samsung keyboard does not have function keys.
Try the demo version and if it works, then using the debugging menu to read the scancode for the "Lang" button and hopefully I can add language switching support also for that key.

hebrew is missing
hey, i just purchased your app and it is missing hebrew language.
Is there any way to add it?
Thanks.
and maybe also add an alt+shift key to switch languages.

Hebrew is added now but you propably know that allready. "Alt+Shift" is not a good option because Alt+Shift+Key is used in some layouts to store 4 different symbols on the same key.

How do I change keyboards?

This is getting annoying!
I've installed Smart Keyboard PRO, and I am unable to select this as the default keyboard.
Usually I long press in a text box to select an alternative keyboard but it is not working. Any ideas?
Go into settings, language and keyboard to activate your other keyboard.
Then when using the normal keyboard you can swipe down from status bar and select input method.
Hope this makes sense.

i had already activated but didn't know to swipe down!
thanks a million
for you
First, install the keyboard and enable it in keyboard settings (slide to "on").
Second, when you are actually typing in a textbox of some sort, there should be a keyboard notification up at the top of the screen - if you select it, it will let you choose input, and you can select which keyboard to use.
Smart Keyboard Pro is fantastic for typing but horrible for predicting/fixing mistakes
Don`t forget to push thanks
Just curious while we're at this subject, I find the stock HTC keyboard in HOX to be weak in predicting as well. Have seen Galaxy Nexus's stock ICS keyboard instead and would prefer that.
Is there a way I can use the stock ICS keyboard on HOX? If yes, how can I download the stock ICS keyboard and install for use?

Keyboard Suggestion

HI All,
Looking for a keyboard suggestion. The current keyboard is ok since the update that added the option to hold the key to bring up punctuations but one thing I miss from my other phone are the cursor arrow keys. Any suggestions for a keyboard that has that?
Thanks,

My favorite is Thumb Keyboard. You change the key sizes and colors, and it has the arrow cursors you're looking for. And great auto-correct.

Swype was the main reason I bought this phone, so I must recommend Swype beta to you, it's bloody amazing. Since my i9100 SGS2 had problems I sold it as is since my friend got me an iPhone 4s for my birthday trying to convert me. It was just a matter of non working phone vs working phone for free kind of gig. But man was typing slow on the 4s. Within 2 weeks of first ever using swype (on my S2) i was typing faster than after 8 months of using a 4s.
BUT I also have Swyftkey 3 and for normal 2 finger typing it's REDICULOUSLY good lol. I can type like a retard and it will still get every word right. I once meant to type "rediculous" but rtdoxpohd came out (I was drunk) and it picked up the right word. You should of seen my drunken face when it happened "0.o wtf really...?"
I highly recommend Dingul keyboard. Its Korean but it can switch to English keyboard using the [한/영] button at the bottom. You can swipe individual keys for punctuation instead of holding it. You can also swipe up on a key for capital letter. Swipe down over the top row of keys for numbers. Its pretty intuitive. Swipe over the [한/영] key to access the arrow keys for cursor along with some faces. Then press the same key again to switch back to the regular keyboard.
Basically you press individual keys like a regular keyboard, but you swipe over various keys to access the less common things that are shown on the key (other keyboards often make u hold the key down instead). Just play around with it. That's what I did, and I'm glad I took the time to figure the basic stuff out.
Honestly, I go back and forth between Swype and Swiftkey all the time so +1 for both!
i use perfect keybord pro..
Thanks for all the suggestions. Trying out Swiftkey now and it seems to be pretty good.

For me, Swype is the best.
One-finger domination! And faster, too.
To me, swift key doesn't even compare to Swype. It's light years behind.

Swiftkey if you use different languages otherwise swipe.
Swiftkey is great, but when I change the dpi I usually end up going with Thumb Keyboard because of the size customization options.
Swiftkey. Destroys anything else on the smartphone market.

I like basic so I just use Hackers Keyboard. Its a basic keyboard that can have all of the keys as a regular desktop keyboard which can come in handy if you remote into your home PC's or use SSH or such. You can also change the size of the keyboard if you have big fingers
I use A I Type keyboard it has the option of arrows in the top number bar,and I like the key layout best.
