Captcha bug - About xda-developers.com

Hi,
There seems to be an infuriating bug with the site. I keep getting captcha prompts despite entering the correct information.
I know this because if I enter incorrect information the I get a correct error message saying the Captcha didn't match.
However, if I enter correct data then I still get a form rejection with words to the effect that XDA adds a captcha for those with less than 10 posts.
This is a fairly major bug because there's no way for me to contact anyone, including site administrators.
Obviously the bug is intermittent.

captcha bug still here

BUG still here today, 7-27-2014

No problem here, apparently. Can you give steps to replicate the problem?

We're using the industry-used reCaptcha. It's difficult to prevent spammers. I know it's frustrating sometimes, but it's a necessary evil to keep XDA free of spam.

So how do we get through this?

If you guys could provide some screenshots of you entering in the proper code and the system rejecting it, that would be helpful.

I've been testing this, sometimes I do get an incorrect code but usually the next time it is fine.
You can use the round 'reload' button to get a new one if it fails.
If you continually have a problem with it even though it is entered correctly, maybe let me know your IP, and what browser plugins you may use.

Hi
I tried to join this forum yonks ago and could not get past captcha so I hope you don't mind me using this post to say the new photo image is much easier than the joined together hard to read letters.
Some sites use a form of joining to defeat spammers requiring joiners to rotate image a number of times, randomized of course to the correct way up. As you can guess this requires a real human....rather than a fake human like me....giggles to pass the test.
I also found I could login via google account
Hope that helps someone

Also - no errors for me, but 11 rounds?!?
11 rounds of selecting images seems a bit excessive..?
And another 6 to post this message!

Weird pop up box

I'm getting a weird pop up box with every click on xda-developers this morning.
The box pops up, saying I need to enter a user name and password for stage.myplaydirect.com
This happens for both firefox and IE.
Anyone else having this problem? Makes for a frustrating surfing experience. Only happens on the xda site. Reset computer, ran virus scan and came back clean.

Yes, me too using firefox. Really irritating and I hasten to add that I have not attempted to submit my real username and password incase it's a rather 'in your face' form of phishing.

I got the same problem on both firefox and IE, and only when browsing this forum. No other sites or forums cause this pop up and my virus checker came up empty as did a complete scan of my system.
That's why I'm pretty sure something from this site is generating it.
Good to know I'm not the only one. Google didn't shed any light on it either other than some sony myplaydirect program, which isn't installed on my computer and I had never heard of.
Same here stage.myplaydirect.com

Have same problem with my Nexus One, log on to "stage.myplaydirect.com" pops up every time i reach the XDA forum and only there.
But on my computer it does not???
I have it too! really annoying... is it a bug of xda?
i have same message on all pages on XDA using FF3.6 and IE8.
No viruses found by anti virus program
I think this was solved by Svetius, and was related to third party advert code.
FWIW, xda doesn't ask for your password in such a box, so don't type it into that box. And your XDA password never needs to be typed into a site other than xda-developers.com and iphone-developers.com (if you import your account there)

The most annoying thing about some web sites.....

.... even this one is
When you click on the Logout button a popup pops up and asks
"Are you sure you want to log out?"
Yes, I am sure I want to log out - that's why I clicked on the b***** Logout button.
Arrrrarrrgh
I hear you it gets annoying

@OP,
What if you are on mobile and you accidentally clicked on it while you were trying to do something like pinch and zoom? The reason why it asks for confirmation is so that, if you made a mistake, you will save yourself from having to put in your password again.
No. It is other people trying to save someone else because they think the world is stupid!

^ Detect the user agent and throw the pop up only for mobile devices not PCs.
It requires a lot more effort to develop different UIs for multiple platforms. It's easy to keep things the same across user-agents until someone complains. Occam's Razor and whatnot.
If this one extra click is causing you trouble then my advice is to not use any kind of software or website ever again. I'm fairly certain that this kind of annoyance will pop up elsewhere and I'd hate for anyone to have to experience such a hardship twice.

I've just returned after a 3 year absence - I see that the Log Out button is still asking if I am too stupid to log out without help. I'm going to find myself a hole somewhere without "any kind of software or website".

XDA forum behaving weirdly

Something is weird with XDA forums, because if I go to a page like for example this forum section then I immediately get redirected to the same adress but with ?nocache=1&z=129628017614096 at the end (numbers seem random every time).
I have no Idea why this happens, but since it happens even before the page is finished loading I get this message:
Rate Limited
You have requested too many pages at once or there was another error. Please retry again, or check out the latest news over on the XDA News Portal.

Reloading the page fixes this, but it gets quite annoying to have to do this every time. Is this happening for anyone but me? Is there maybe a fix?
I am using FF 26 with AdBlock turned off, and I have allowed most of the site in NoScript except amazon-adsystem and skimresources

Im surprised this is happened as we eliminated the reload code. You can try changing to the 2013-1024 theme to fix this. The "rate limited" error means that your browser was requesting the page a bunch of times.

Changing theme seems to have helped, thanks.
Yeah, since it reloads as soon as the page opens I understand the "Rate Limited"-message, it's just weird that it would reload in the first place. Sometimes it didn't reload right away, and then it was fine.

[Q] Life is good security question

Wife's phone started to randomly get a security question when she goes to unlock it.
Pops up with a message, header says "SECURITY CHECK" message saying "Please type the sentence including the space in the box below." and the sentience is "Life is good".
Not sure what it really is as there is no security considering it gives you the answer.
She has knock code unlocking, anyone see this or know how to stop it?
There is a thread on Android Central as well regarding this with no answer (Can't post link, search their forums for message above)
Thanks in advance!

Thank you, that was it! Don't get the point or how to disable / change.
Answer
So something happened where the knock code was entered incorrectly too many times. And the backup pin was erased. Go to ur settings and recreate your knock code and then it should ask for a backup pin. Once that's all created the annoying security check should go away......hope this helps
Happened to my G3. Not one to take chances, I immediately pulled the battery. Restarted the phone, all is well.

[Q] Problem editing profile - acting like a duplicate registration

Just registered here (currently at college, so I'm using an IP linked to them, I'll be on my own network in a few hours or so most likely). Trying to edit my profile and I'm getting this strange error:
"Our records show that you have already registered under the name of cosyizumi. If you have lost your password, click here. If you would like to modify your profile, click here."
Anyone else suffering this issue right now, or is this a known problem to combat spam accounts, because it seems like a pretty odd error to throw for this specific occasion (the CAPTCHA also keeps failing repeatedly while I'm typing this thread).
Currently using a recent Chrome stable on W10 LTSx, though I can't be bothered to check what version for now what is on here lol.
