is your bootloader unlocked? NEVER accept any OTA updates with an unlocked bootloader, use flashtool!

[Q] Phone bricking per OTA - strange

Hey Folks
I tried now 2 times to get on the new Firmwareversion 4.x for the Arc with root.
Every Time i tried to Unlock per OTA the Phone bricked. So the Bootloader must be open.
I don´t touched the Bootloader, but i think the Bootloader is open, because the Phone had SimLock and i unlocked the phone with SETools with Testpoint Methode.
How do I know if the boot loader can be unlocked on my phone?
It is possible to unlock the boot loader for certain releases of our 2011 Xperia™ phones, such as Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ pro and Xperia™ PLAY. Your phone has to fulfill a number of requirements, for example, you can’t unlock the boot loader if you have a SIM lock protected phone. There are other requirements as well, depending on your market and the original configuration of your phone.

So the Bootloader must be open in a way am i right? But i can still update with PCC or SEUS the Firmware
Where can i check the Bootloader Status
Thanks in advance for Help Dudes
Setool would have unlocked the bootloader, so have a read of the unbrick thread in the dev section.

The pc companion shows new update but won't allow the user to actually upgrade with a unlocked bootloader.

so i have rooted xperia arc. noticed that there were new update (4.0.2.A.0.42). so i resetted to default settings cause otherwise it wouldnt let me install that update, then after about 5 mins of updating arc shutdown and now it wont turn on.. so i ask what should i do?
was your arc bootloader unlocked when you did this?
When your BL is locked, just flash it via SEUS.
yes, bootloader was unlocked.
thank you for quick replys
There is a fix in the sticky's
For future only people who unlocked with setool can update via FOTA, SEUS and PC Companion.
Unless you relock your bootloader

[Q] Help needed to update Xperia Ion LT28H

I am trying to update my xperia ion to version 3.7 from 2.68. But its not happening. I tried with pc companion as well as OTA. Both say that phone has the latest version of firmware. I tried to perform repair via pc companion but it re-installed same version of firmware 2.68. Also my phone heats up quickly while browsing internet on 3G and battery gets drained quickly.
I checked with Sony service station and they are ready to replace my phone as i am facing heating and battery issue. But before replacing the phone i would like to check if issue has been solved in firmware version 3.7. I am concerned about flashing phone directly as it might void the warranty.
Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Unlocking bootloader may void warrenty. For flashing Sonys stock rom u dont need to unlock.. Just flash with flashtool. But before, u could try to update with Sony update Service.

[help] Xperia M can't install updates

Hey I'm new here so sorry if I explain it weirdly and I mistakenly posted this in a different section before
So my xperia M which is now unrooted can't install the 15.4.A.1.9 update it just downloads and reboots and goes to the boot up screen and loads for 2-3 seconds and blacks out and and restarts and it says couldn't install update. How can I fix this?
Try flashing a .ftf file via flashtool
Press thanks if I helped!
This might me the answer
Hey there!
I think i understood your problem and i have a question to ask you. is your bootloader locked or did u unlocked ur bootloader anytime and didnt lock it back.?
if your bootloader is unlocked , u wont be able to install updates from official Sony Update Center.
I dono if this is the exact reason y ur are unable to do but this happened with my phone too.
I use Sony Xperia M Dual C2004 and i wasnt able to install updates, then i noticed that my bootloader was unlocked then i used Flashtool to lock it back, then i was able to install the updates
Or if u want to install .FTF of your phone manually do it via Flashtool coz its safe
and if you want to get .FTF of your phone directly from Sony use PC Companion as Sony Update Service [SUS] is stopped
Hope it helps :angel::fingers-crossed::good:
