You sound like a child. Enjoy that

Samsung did not promise anyone that u buy their handset and we will give free upgrades every now and then , do you get free upgrade from windows xp to windows 7 to windows 8 for free? NO it takes a lot time and money to develop , Samsung would not just update all the incremental updates google provides ...

We'll probably get it when they release it. Usually within a few hours.

Up to 18 months of releasing a set they are bound to give updates! Do you know that?
Samsung is definitely better than other brands atm, hTC, Sony etc, for providing faster updates, but that's a different thing.

The difference here is that those operating systems are things you actually have to buy, whereas android is free.
But back on topic: OP you barely even given them time to react. It takes a while to develop these things, so they take at least a couple of months to release. I mean, look at the galaxy s2 and its ICS release, that was their flagship phone for a while and even on that it took months for ics to be released on it.

You surely know nothing about One Alliance protocol followed by all the companies who use Android OS for their cell.
Its a guideline stated by Google that OEM must support a device that they bring out for 18 months since the time of release.
Now this is a very good guideline as it helps us sort good brands from stupid brands..for eg- motorola
Also google cant force any company to release updates. The company is at fault if it doesnt and they are responsible for getting a bad name then.

As a user who uses both Apple and Android (Samsung) devices, I find that this is still quite a major flaw for android phone manufacturers. My father still uses an iPhone 3GS and that is still receiving updates from Apple, nearly 4 years since it was released.
This is the first time i've heard of the "One Alliance protocol" so hopefully it's a step in the right direction.
Other than that, I'm sure users of older phones can hopefully flash custom roms of higher OS releases for their phone.

Sorry if i sound like a noob
4.2 was released 3+ months back. Currently my nexus 7 is running on 4.2.1 and this week would be 4.2.2 . Now then why is wrong to ask a question that samsung has not been keen on releasing 4.2 updates instead of stupid increments on 4.1.x which have been a major letdown.
Battery life has gone down from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 while i was expecting the opposite. 4.2 has much more refined codebase for battery and performance.
Now am I being unreasonable for asking the question?

Who would buy the s4 if note 2 had 4.2.2 already
They would update the note 2 two months after they sell 20 million s4
If you want 4.2 for the dash clock ... flash aokp or Cyanogenmod rom
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)

Android OS upgrades are completely unrelated to what you just described about Windows. I purchase my windows and get updates free of charge throughout its product life cycle which stretches to even a decade. Going back to topic its Samsungs obligation to support its devices sold and keep them up to date atleast while the phone is relatively recent. Its what consumers want its why most people buy the latest phones. I bought my note 2 not because of its hardware alone, let alone its cheap build quality, but also because i expect to get the latest updates soon and not when its outdated.
Sent from the rabbit hole.

I have 4.2.2 now what are you talking about?

I think we will get it soon. Google will release a newer version than 4.2.x and the new update we will first get it after they have released s4

HUGE requirements will continue the fragmentation.
Devices like the desire hd or similar, wich gets ics, but will be stuck on 4.0.
About 30% will be stuck on GB because of the grow of android this year, but will be smaller, as most new devices launch with ics.
And so on.
Updating should be like IOS, when an ipad 1 or iphone 3gs is still upgradeable to ios 5.1.1, wich has been released 2 weeks ago.
These are limited in the app store, but who cares?

That's the difference between a monopolized environment and a liberal one. Monopoly is easier to control, predict and dictate. But don't be as naive as to think apple doesn't turn obsolete old equipment with their OS upgrades. The timeline is just much more dilated than those of the less controled environments.

Because Nexus devices are devices that are made by Google's standards and android is developed for this devices by Google themselves. Then with the android source code (AOSP) manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, Sony etc etc. are free to make their own rom for it, this is why it will always follow later, especially 'cause they have to make sure it is completely bugfree. Next to the big manufacturers we have ofcourse developers like CyanogenMod team and other good developers (i.e. from XDA!) who provide us from great roms too, and some even better than the stock samsung roms.

"Crap" is relative. One could call CM10.x crap for the Note 2, as it doesn't have the S-Pen features, leaving the device rather crippled compared to TW.

No, TW compared to CM actually is crap. CM S Pen Add-on, Note Buddy and Papyrus and S Pen features (incl. Pulling in or out detection) work perfectly.
definitely by the time samsung releases official 4.3 there will be 4 to 5 more threads on the same topic for sure
By the time Sammy is almost ready to release 4.3, Key Lime Pie 5.0 will be out and they will then decide to skip 4.3 for Note II and go directly to 5.0.
I am having issues building cm.
I just know how to initiate a build , I don't know how to fix because I don't know any programming language.

I don't know man, that sounds pretty ridiculous. Okay sure Google is following their rule of eighteen months but they said it could friggin run on 512 mb of ram! And we have double that.
I don't know about others but it's fairly redundant.

Google is ****ing ridiculous, I'm never going to buy another ****ty phone from Google "Nexus" brand ever again, the next time I will go with Samsung Galaxy S4 or something better from Samsung and not "pure android" experience (at least then I will get a phone with upgradeable storage and better specs)...
This is outrageous, bought this phone just because of "Official Android Updates support" and apart from the phone getting very sluggish with Android 4.2 and a just slightly better with 4.3 (but not even close to what it was in terms of performance with 4.1) now they make this ridiculous decision...
So now I will have to swallow this disrespect with customers by not getting KitKat update, and btw, the phone have more than needed RAM to run this KitKat version according to the mighty Google statements...
Thanks Google, you just lost a customer for your Nexus devices.
I want my "low spec device" with 4.4.
It's not our problem that they just pushed it to the 18th month because they couldn't develop a 3.4+ kernel
C'mon let's make this viral!

And this is why, I had the note 2, and am now on the note 3, Sammobile posted that 4.3 was being tested for note 2 as of 9/25/13 and all the leaked documents show that it should be released (on all carries) the end of this month or beginning of december
So, with the news that 4.4 is being tested for note 3, if (big if) they follow a similar time table, within 3 months we should have the update...
Again... this is being very hopeful. just my opinion. we will see what happens.

I have rooted/unlocked about 10 diff phones over the past 4yrs and would have agreed with you up until a short while ago. The AOSP camera is no where as great quality as a "stock" phone ever is. Reason being, the drivers are not open source. Now that I have a baby, the reason I went with the Note 3 is due to its amazing camera/camcorder, which will not even be remotely close on AOSP. Thats the reason why I will always stick with a TW ROM. I have xposed and other mods done, so its pretty much AOSP to me anyways.
I remember coming to XDA many moons ago to get fixes for my Ipaq 6513 - Windows mobile phone. There was no such thing as Android then. Those phones needs fixes like mad and XDA was here to work things out. I will only use a custom rom when the stock rom isn't up to par. That being said, I see no reason to apply a custom rom to the N3 or the N2. They were perfect out the box. CM is sorely lacking compared to TW.
Sammy may release a 4.4 update next month but I doubt T-Mobile will release it before March.
Note 2 Update will hit Dec. 2 for T-Mobile.

Agreed 100%. I hate the AOSP camera, it's the most basic, crappy, unintuitive thing I've ever used. I have a cat that I love to take pictures of(why yes, I AM single! lol) and every time I tried an AOSP rom on my N2 I found myself cursing the camera & searching for a decent alternative. Nothing beats the voice-controlled option-rich TW cam, as far as I'm concerned
When I bought my Note 2 the news that 4.3 was coming. Note 3 came out and never received 4.3
I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't think that they are gonna update the Xperia S anymore. It's a shame as it's a good device, I hope they don't do the same and abandon my Z1 after 18 months like they did with this device. Hopefully tho they might update this but it's very unlikely

Abandon? You expecting lifetime of updates? They didn't abandon Xperia S. The current firmware is fine.

Why must there be? There are unofficial versions, just use those. Are you expecting Sony to keep every single phone they ever released up to date? There must be hundreds by now (okay that was a hyperbole, 48 according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Xperia), noone can keep up with that. If you must blame anyone or anything for the short while that phones are getting updates, blame Android because it's so hard to install on hardware (compared to more classic PC OS's like Windows and Ubuntu/Pick-Your-Favorite-Linux-Distro). Not even the Galaxy Nexus got an update to Android 4.4, and if there was one Nexus that was most like our Fuji-phones it was that one. So if our generation's Nexus isn't even getting any updates anymore, how do you expect a non-Nexus device to get that update.
Seriously, I don't like this either, so ever since KitKat I haven't run a stock ROM. Now you've learned that if stock updates are important to you, you should get a Nexus or a Google Play Edition device. Sony has been known not to be very good in providing long term updates ever since the Xperia X10 (their very first Android phone). And if you can't afford to get a new phone every 2 years (because that's how long it'll be relevant), you should stop being so sensitive about updates and be happy with what you have.

I m using pure Aosp 4.4 right now.
And I m happy with it.
But see every nexus has offical cm support.they are also working on 4.4.
And here only billchane and rehman FX are working.thanks to them we have 4.4 build.suppose we don't have more support from them.than what we gonna do.then I will sell my sl..and surely buy nexus 5 or htc m7

Best not buy a HTC, support isn't great there either. The One X(L) isn't going beyond Android 4.2. If this is important to you, there's only q Nexus, a Google Play Edition phone or maybe a Motorola Moto X but we still have to see how long Motorola is going to support phones now they're part of Google.
And indeed we wouldn't be much without Rayman or bilchen. But it's like this for the vast majority of Android devices.

I tried several KK-based roms for xperia S, but all gave me random reboots
had some on 4.3, but with 4.4 I have too many to be stable as dayly driver.
i guess they all use the same kernel (open semc), that could explain why the all have it?
but... why do some people claim to have no reboots, and others have em 'all the time'?
i'm now on nature rom (4.1) and no problems at all, it's a great rom, but i really like 4.4 as well.
will there be a stable kernel/version soon?

First of all, the XS it's not just another phone sony launched, its a flagship device that only got two major updates (one actually cause ics should have been out of the box) so I at least expected 4.2 or 4. 3, even Galaxy s2 got them
second, the galaxy nexus didn't get 4.4 because of Texas instruments (supposedly) and as long as other oems continue to update it means it's possible and we have every right to complain about it

You're absolutely correct that Galaxy Nexus lack of KitKat is due to Texas Instruments. Similar, Xperia S ain't getting 4.2 and above due to Qualcomm, not Sony.

Ok then my mistake, but how would you then explain the galaxy s2 getting updates with a snapdragon s2?
