[ROM] [toro+] The Orca Project by Drew Garen (anyone tried this?) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Seems pretty legit so far, stable and plenty of options. Didn't see a Dev thread so didn't know who was running this ROM. Its available on goo manager under drewgaren. If the Dev wants this gone just let me know! Loving the ROM so far though!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Drew doesnt exactly have the best rapport around these parts lol, good dev yes but many would consider him shady for multiple reasons.

Didn't know that, knew ID seen his name many times before but wasn't aware of shady activities
Sent from my toro+ via Tapatalk

I tried his ROM a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't even boot. It was the updated one in the toro section on goo.im. the only time I don't have a ROM boot is when there's something wrong with it.

Booted fine for me and running beautifully with ak pirate kernel. May be a keeper!
Sent from my toro+ via Tapatalk

Tried out the newest one. Booted fine. Seemed nice. A lot of options. Went back to PA tho. Try it out.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

I just can't seem to stay on PA, the pie feature is cool but doesn't seem to work right all the time
Sent from my toro+ via Tapatalk

Yeah everyone says PA.. Honestly I think the orca ROM can do what PA does then more.. I been running it since the update and my old prob is the ram usage...
Edit: also has anyone else tried that awesome auto hide navbar? I like it more then pie.. IMO its more responsive.. And pie just took to long open its nice eye candy though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Just loaded this on.
I have to say I like a lot of the features like auto hide navbar, custom colors in messaging, phablet mode, etc.
I tried PA for the PIE mode, but wasn't impressed enough to keep it loaded.
I'll let it bake for a few days and see if I still like it at the end of the weekend.

Care substantiate such a claim which has likely deterred a bunch of people from trying this rom?
Out of all the 4.2.2 roms out right now, Orca Project in my opinion is at the top right now. I've had no problems with it, not one crash, and it's very efficient with great battery life, especially given how many customizations it's loaded with. Best of all I never had to get off my pink unicorn at TWRP riding into Orca Project.

I'm running it and I have been for a while I just tried switching to jellybro but I missed this ROM I flashed back within minutes lol. But I still wanna know what he's talking about...
Edit: actually I just realized this ROM looks a lot like carbonrom
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Well, he is known for taking other people's work and crediting as his own(supposedly). I know he has done some good work specially in the nexus s/ ics days but he did have some problems on here.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Taking somebody's work without giving credit is just morally wrong, but doesn't mean its a good clean ROM. I was thinking like he was virus, credit card logging shady.
Oh and OP I'm not one of those message board cops but Drew posted his own thread in development for toro plus.

Yes, in the nexus s/ics days it was terrible. And now he posts a rom and is nowhere to be seen in his thread. LOL

Yeah I noticed that too. Decided to switch to ROMs and carbonrom seems to have pretty much all the same features.

Sourcery has all these features and more. I'm not taking away from any other ROM out there. Built in.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Back in the DX days he was known to take other devs work and label it as his own. That being said orca runs nice but is riddled with scripts that dont work, are incomplete, conflicting, and proven tweaks to have no effect. I also dont like the idea of him trying to disable v-sync. Although I do like the name

This rom seems to have a great rep..and I've heard of it from owning previous devices but can't say I ever ran it. Can someone just break down the basics like why people love it so much or what stands out about it? Would be appreciated thanks

I've ported it to the AT&T S3 but haven't made a thread for it yet because I have one bug left in it, call audio doesn't work. I could port it to the Sprint S3 and upload it in this thread if anyone wants to test it. Call audio should be the only bug, well if there's any bugs in CM10 those will be present too.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
well im personally using aokp right now. it takes care of a lot of the cm10 bugs and it has a few customizations that i really enjoy already baked in (i.e. center clock and circlemod battery). the main reason i want the paranoid android is the in depth ui changing. and with jellybean now having 3 different uis baked in id love to go through and tinker with all of that. i really want the 7inch notification bar ui and the tablet camera ui ( i love the option wheel look). but just like it was mentioned earlier, more roms is never a bad thing but the only way i see me giving up aokp is for some PA love lol
Yup it is pretty badass

I just tried getting the new nightlies for jb on threads in dev section about a minute ago and they were all down, all of them. Aokp and cm10 look really nice and strentghful I think so and am switch a lot between ROMs now a days and loving it. My fav touchwiz is Jedi and I don't really know why, it must be a mysterious Jedi skill, and cm ROM will conclude this post with guru. Try them all guys. These ROMs are real blessings and you won't know until you lift it up. By the way thanx.

PGM2 for SGS3 (POLL)

Hey everyone
so i have been in contact with the dev of PGM2.. he makes a kernel mod that allows you to swipe to turn off/on screen etc instead of using buttons
heres the link to his thread for the nexus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721895
i essentially was talking to him to see if he would be willing to make us an app for our sgs3 devices... as i personally hate using buttons for fear of them breaking or wearing out on me... so i wanted to do this poll to see who would be interested in this kind of thing...
the dev needs to gauge interest to see if people would even want it to make it work his time...
please people, make sure to vote and voice your opinions as i would LOVE to have this ported over from the nexus
thanks!!
Come on people. Vote it up! Vote yes! Lol

I believe ktoonsez's kernel has this feature in the ktweaker settings if you want it that bad. A bit if a battery drain though
ya i know, but honestly its not as developed as the pgm2 one is... and to be honest, the KT one barely works... had KT installed and it never worked for me.. ive now moved to leankernel

Yea. I didn't figure it out too. Then I finally found out that you swipe across the screen to make it work. And I don't see YOU developing something to fix this, give thanks for what you have.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I dont have to develope anything. There is someone that is willing to port an already existing app to our devices. Don't have to be rude. I'm saying that the one in the kernel currently isn't developed to its full potential... a little competition didn't hurt anyone...
Sent from my A510 using Tapatalk 2
Personally, I like swiping the screen to take a screenshot, rather than locking the phone. Though perhaps this swipe could be from the bottom to top.. that would be quite interesting.

What? the Att version doesnt have AOKP does it? I dont think so I think they might have a early build of CM 10 but thats it. No AOKP but Icoul;d be wrong. Alink would be nice So I can check out whayt you are talking about. And I know they are working on it. I know cmenard is working on it and I think whitehawx is working with him I know he was thinking of getting this phone so if he did we will have some real kick ass stuff. For those of you who dont know whitehawkx he is one of the best devs on xda and a key member of team kang. I happend to have the last 3 devices the same as him and all my daily drivers were always his work. Back when I had my g2x it was him who saved it he ha dthe best rom called weapon g2x and then later when ICS came along we got AOKP. Thgen the t989 and AOKP there that is what I have running on my t989 and I gave it to a girl I work with and she loved it and she got a new phone so we gave it to another one of our co workers and he has had android and he thinks it kicks ass. Sorry to go on and on but I just want to let you all know we are in for a real treat. The one thing about whitehawkx and team kang is they do not relese crap so it will take longer but when we get it it will be worth it. As a general rule you guys should not be asking any devs for eta's on their work remember they dont get paied it is a hobby in other words it gets worked around the rest of their life. If anyone wants an eta I say build your own then you will know how long it is going to take. Other than that its just rude.
Whitehawkx? That would be a great Xmas gift. He was building faster than I could flash on my GS3. I hope he gets it. AFAIK, only CM10 is available, bit I'd think that will change soon.

Yea whitehawk is an awesome dev for sure, when I first got the htc hd2 I ran some super cool roms on it from him and also in my t989. I do hope he gets the note 2 and developes some sick roms like always.
Sorry
