Back with Samsung after 2 years with HTC - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

After two years with my EVO 4G (OG) it was starting to have some hiccups here and there. Mostly because of the power surges that came into my house and fried out 11 250 joule surge protectors, an LED TV, 2 FiOS STB's, the FiOS D-Mark, and a microwave. Charging my phone during the last strike from my local electric company had caused it to start running strangely. Or at least that is my theory.
Well, I decided I needed a new phone. I was lucky enough that I was due for an upgrade, so off to Best Buy I went. I was seriously toying with the idea of getting an SG3. My brother in law has one, as well as my wife's cousins. I thought it was a great phone and light years ahead of the EVO. Don't get me wrong, my EVO has served me phenomenally, but I wanted something nicer. I have 2 Epic 4Gs in my house, wife and son, plus I have had the Fascinate, the Moment and the Transform, so I know Samsung makes some great devices.
I walk into the Mobile center in Best Buy and gravitate towards the Sprint table and started looking at the SG3. There was nothing that really jumped out at me and there were no more HTC phones in the lineup. Sad, but never a deal breaker. Then I see it, the Galaxy Note II. I pick it up and it feels very comfortable in my hand. I am a big guy so I feel like an iPhone get's lost in my hand and this was the Goldilocks phone. Now for the moment of truth. Do they have the Titanium in stock? My EVO is white and so is my iPhone. The Note in white was just too much white. And not the cool Stormtrooper white with black accents like my EVO has, but pure stark white. That wouldn't do. The sales person approached and asked me if I needed help. I told him I wanted the GN2 in Titanium and he gave me an ashen look. He mentioned that they were on national back order, but he would look anyway. Lo and behold, he pulls out, according to him, the last Titanium GN2 in the country.
Everything goes swimmingly. They have the phone advertised for $299 for an upgrade, but I had seen it in Radio Shack for $199. I never thought to take a picture of the ad before I went to BB, but oh well. I told the new salesperson that was helping I would come back to get the $100 credit. She said she had a lot of luck beating Amazon Wireless' prices. She pulled up the site and I was able to get the Note for $199. Score! She got me up and activated in about 10 mins and I was out the door with my new toy.
Now, I swore to myself that I would test drive it for a week or two before rooting at and throwing a custom ROM. Too bad that lasted about 5 mins. I was able to root it even after doing the MA7 update. I am currently a lab rat because I actually like the stock TouchWiz. That may change but for the moment I like the Team Nocturnal ROM (great job guys!!) Battery life on this is insane!!! I charged it to full last night and took it off at about 10PM. I use it as a white noise generator and forgot to set the sleep timer, so it was going from midnight until I woke up at 7AM and I still had 90% battery. Awesome!!
I will probably spend most of my work day playing and tweaking it.

Same boat here, DIE HARD EVO OG supporter. Phone still rocks, although requires some tweaking. I'm on my way to Sprint store this afternoon. What method did you use for root?

thats one hell of a post just to say you got a note 2. i think that everyone should do that. it would make the forums a super great place to get info about who has the note 2. i think we should just give up on developing and just announce ourselves. to me it just seems like a better use of bandwidth. i dont know. i wish i could just read welcome posts all day. :veryfun: :sarcasm:

Welcome to the team  I come from all three generations of the evo. Its so nice to be able to root your phone without all the hastle. I wouldn't go back to htc even after seeing the htc one. Also, Samsung and Sprint have been doing an awesome job of upgrading their phones. I'll be waiting on the Note 3.

I used MSKip's Galaxy Note II Toolkit Ver. 3.0. It was super-easy. It will still root even if you updated to 4.1.2 (MA7) I was rooted in under 5 minutes. (Excellent job MSKip!! :good: )

I got all 3 generations of Evos sitting on my desk right now too. I am not going back to HTC after buying the Note 2. Samsung just does the software so much better. Like why on my evo with 16gb of internal storage do I have to move my apps between a 2gb app partition and a 8gb internal partition

I also cone from a evo 4g. As a matter of fact, I bought the 3d for my wife and another 4g for my mom to use. Same deal here, 4g just want cutting it anymore and the note had been out for a little bit on sprint. So I got it and it's crazy impressive. The weight and the feel of it at first compared to htc devices wad misleading at first, but a good case and some time with it had made me a fan of Samsung.
My buddy at work has the htc dna and it feels like you could beat someone with it, but that's pretty much where the advantages end. This is the way to go. Fast, responsive, uses a stylus like the good old Palm days, and the battery life is amazing.
I've been with htc since the mogul days and have been a big fan of theirs, but always had to buy the extended batteries. I think the stock battery will do for this phone.
Samsung note ii

I also came from HTC. The HTC Desire HD. It was a great device.
You've got to love the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 though. :good:

An ex evo user myself. Welcome to the club....you made the right choice

Liked my Evo 3D for 2 years. Loving the Note II for 3 months! :highfive:

I had the og evo and the 3vo and after the locked bootloader BS and htcs backpedaling on opening up to development, I abandoned them and boycotted them. I won't buy any more HTC products, especially after them threatening lawsuits for ppl hosting RUUs and modified sense roms. They have become too applesque for my taste. Samsung has been good about ease of access for development (unlocked bootloaders and easy to root, just implemented a simple custom flash counter) and releasing source almost at the same time an OTA starts being pushed.
I like to break stuff!

I too have come from using all htc phones (mogul, tp2, and evo4g) and I must say this is one heck if a phone. Love everything about it. The battery lasts me as long as the batteries from all my htc phones combined. Everyonw that I have showed it too have been amazed by it..
Cant get enough of this phone

Also a ex evolte user made the jump the days ago this phone is off the chain I honestly feel like I may go my entire contact with this one!

Fascinate to DInc2-good idea?

So here's my story. I have the fascinate now, got it when it came out & have another year to go to upgrade. The froyo update has created pretty significant missed call issues that vzw is addressing by offering a switch to the DInc2 or the X2. My wife has the Dinc1 & I had the eris before so I'm familiar with sense ui. How does this phone compare to them or to the X2? I'm looking for input before I make my choice.

I cannot speak for the DX2, but I for one love my DInc2. It's the perfect size, and has the perfect feel for the hand. The processor is lightning quick; keep in mind that this is the next generation Snapdragon. Even though it's not Dual Core, it's still really fast!
You get a great camera, still a good screen, and a front facing camera which you do not have on the DX2. The DX2 has a qHD display, but from what I've heard, and this is hearsay and opinion, it's not that great. I don't like Blur, and I came from a Stock Android OG Droid, so Sense was the better choice for me.
Battery life isn't the best I've seen, but it's also not the worst. Depends on usage, but I can get through most of the day with it. Gingerbread helps here, and also makes the phone even faster than it was with Froyo. I would recommend the DInc2. Good luck!
i came from the fascinate, as did my wife, and i can tell you we're absolutely happy with the dinc2. i'm on CM7 nightly, she's running gingersense (she doesn't know that, she thinks she's full stock. shhhh.) it's so much better than the fascinate in every way.
if you liked the fascinate's screen, then the DX2 won't be good enough. the incredible 2's screen is pretty comparable.
Bro as much as I loved my fascinate, I had the same issues with missed calls. Took 3 replacements to finally get offered something else. Dinc2 or the x2. I'm not a fan of the x's so I chose the dinc 2. This phone literally ****s on the fassy. I have not experienced any bugs. Now that it's rootable it's even more beast. The screen isn't super amoled . But, it looks great. The difference in screens really seems to be black. It looked better on the fassy but every other color looks better on dinc 2
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
I'm in the same boat as everyone here....I had the fassy and couldn't handle the missed calls so when I called it was this or the droid x (not x2) for free or I could upgrade early and sign a new 2yr contact. which I thought about cuz I too have a yr left on my current contact. (really thought I wanted the droid charge) I have never been happier that I picked the inc 2.
When I first started looking into the support for this phone I thought I made a mistake as it seemed like there was none and as you know the fascinate community was full of ppl and devs. But now that we have root this is by far the best phone out (imo) and has plenty of amazing devs who have really brought out its potentially.
Semper Primus
My wife has the fassy an I have the dinc2. nothing an no rom can fix the fassy. Its a awesome screen but its terrible other than that. I'm trying to get her on a dinc2.

I got the free with no contract swap from Fascinate to DInc2 and do not regret it now that we are rooted and flashing away!
Fascinate does have a slightly better screen and a better external speaker but the DInc2 beats it everywhere else!

I went into VZW they other day to exchange my Fascinate for the Dinc 2. A buddy did the same thing and his Dinc is awesome. Definitely not regretting my decision. I'm waiting very anxiously for the Fed Ex man to bring a present to my door now...

my wife has the o.g Facinate from release date and at first it was very cool but the whole rooting process and ODIN over time has become such a P.I.T.A!
ive gone from a ton of blackberry's and winmo devices to > eris > inc 1 > inc 2..
im not looking back and only looking forward to whats next in the Inc series.
functionality, speed and even the new features such as dual cam's and etc are what make this badboy the leader of the new school!
MY fiance had a fascinate on our family share plan and I just gave a courtesy upgrade so she could get a new phone. I wish I would have tried this first and then given her the upgrade. I wonder if I activate the fascinate on my line if they would let me swap it for a dInc 2. Does anybody know if Verizon would do this?

By the way guys when you call for the replacement make sure you tell them you need the battery. Cover and charger. Most likely they are sending out cpo devices and they don't come with any of that stuff.

The x2 has a slew of software problems from what I hear. Doesn't seem like good phone but I could be wrong. My inc2 has data speeds that are twice as fast as my fascinate. Haven't missed a call or text yet on my inc2. I will never buy a Samsung again after having a Fascinate.

Wish I could've seen that where I live but every dinc2 I saw at the vzw stores had the same -dbm (or close) as my fascinate showing only 2 bars. The only phone in either store with full bars and >-75dbm was the dx2. After dealing with this so long I couldn't see myself with another Samsung device. I won't necessarily miss the phone but I will miss the devs & community.

Should I get the Epic 4g Touch?

Ok so I currently have the nexus s 4g, i am due for an upgrade. I was just curious whether you guys think i should upgrade to the epic 4g touch, or wait for a better phone down the line (galaxy nexus). These are my thoughts:
The epic 4g touch, in many ways IMO, is the best phone out on the market now. I have played around with it in the sprint stores and love it. But I have a few questions...I have read that the Epic touch has NFC technology, is this true? Also are there a lot of nice ROMs for it, i have searched the dev section but really theres no way to tell the quality of ROM by just looking at the pictures and posts. Also do you guys think i should save my upgrade for something thats coming down the line? I have googled searched as much as possible to see if there are any new sprint phones coming down the line and i cant seem to find anything that beats out the epic touch, besides the galaxy nexus which is not even confirmed for sprint yet, and no announcment of a WiMax version so im thinking if sprint even gets it it wont be until they get there LTE network up which will be for a while. Gimme Your thoughts...thanks in advance.
Be patient and wait for the Galaxy Nexus. wait for the news about it, see if they are going to release one for Sprint... if not get the Epic Touch 4g.
No NFC for the epic touch 4g. also, not many roms. development is slow but it will take off with a little more time.
I'd wait for the Galaxy Nexus.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
First things first, there's always going to be a newer bigger and better phone coming down the line no matter what phone you buy. Even if you buy a phone on launch day there's always something new in the works. That's technology, its constantly evolving. And don't go chasing fairy tales of a Nexus that isn't even announced to be coming to Sprint. Even if it was it would be an LTE device and that's a long time from now.
As for lack of custom Roms the epic touch hasn't been out all that long so there's only a few custom Roms out. But truthfully there's not much that needs changing or modifying to make this phone awesome. Straight out of the box you won't find much to complain about if anything at all. I was asking myself the same questions and I come to the conclusion that the epic touch is definetely worthy of an upgrade and even worthy of keeping for twenty months. Sprint. LTE. is a ways off so by the time that starts rolling out in a timely fashion, you'll be nearing your next upgrade anyway. Go buy the epic touch and give it a try for a few days. I promise you will not want to return it and go back to your current phone. Trust me on that.
The Galaxy Nexus probably won't come for quite a while so if you're anxious for a new device and don't want to leave Sprint, then the Epic Touch will be great. There are some issues such as loss of signal and no NFC included as stated earlier. I came from the original epic and I upgraded to this one since the next Nexus seemed like it would take a while to get to Sprint.
I was in your situation and decided to go ahead and get the Epic 4G Touch. I haven't had any problems with it at all so far and love the phone. There's lots of development going on for it too if you're into custom ROMs. The Nexus Prime will probably be great, but who knows when we'll see it. Like others have said, there's always going to be something newer on the horizon.
Get it its a beast by th time you think about it. Newer phones will be out just enjoy the now

Hi I own one and though the phone is great, the Samsung support is non existent. Also with Samsung you have to buy new phone to get the upgrade to the OS. I am waiting for HTC to announce their next sprint phone like Vigor. My experience with HTC has been much better...The only way Samsung with unlearn what they learnt from Apple is to let their sales get affected. I am telling this to everyone who goes ooh aah over my phone.
If you are planning to stay with Sprint and not looking to switch carriers, I would say buy it and enjoy it.

I think the phone is great, despite having left mine for ohhh say 30 mins in a steamy bathroom. No water damage signs inside sprint told me (I didnt tell them what happened obviously) but two weeks later after tons of complaining I got a new one and I am happy as a pig in poo. This "smartphone" maybe because it is my first one, but I can't imagine being without it.
When I purchased it was a couple days after I found out that sprint was getting the iphone, and after about two weeks of hard research (it was released in US MID september to the best of my knowledge) so I am looking forward to spending two years with it now. The two weeks (really 10 days because I rigged it up to work and got extra battery that I had sprint credit to my account.
The old phone already had drop marks and stuff, the new one go a TPU treatment right away and steinheil sgp screen protector 24 hours later. This, IMO is the perfect trio. Size of the iphone IMO is better, thats it. The screen on this thing will wow you with pretty much all you look at, it is fast, every iphone person that sees it LOVES it (ICouldGAF after reading jobs bio - ****), precesses fast, battery is nice, feel nice, fit finish nice. I dont want a metal phone, even though when I dropped it a few times, the edges that were worn looked a heck of alot like some sort of metal and it bent like metal in places, I also read it is somewhere (of course cant find link but maybe somewhere on Samsung site proper)
JC
I would get it. I doubt the galaxy nexus is coming to sprint. This is the best phone out for Sprint and will be for a long time.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
I would defintely get it, i came from AT&T's Motorola Atrix(the first one) and it was a great device and still is, had it since launch, but i been wanting a Galaxy S phone. So i decided to go into the sprint store and check out the E4gT, and loved it, the phones that i was tryna decided between were the E4gT and the Evo3d, i didn't want the photon cause i don't really like motorla, and the iphone 4s was too high, plus i really don't like iOS(i love mod'n my devices and u really can't do much with iOS), and the Galaxy Nexus is WAAAAAYYYY OVERRATED, sure it's gonna come with ICS but nobody's gonna keep it stock for long, they'll end up throwing a rom over it, and the devs on the E4gT are active and will keep you happy with enough roms(and updates with them), mods, and themes until ICS comes to the E4gT
But back to the topic at hand, i definitely suggest this phone, buy it, give it a few days before u decide to root it to test it out, stay up to date with the forum and if u decide to root, the instructions are super easy and you'll have plenty of help if u get stuck(eventhough some may give u a hard time) but i'll definitely help u if needed just like i was helped.....now GO FOR IT! lol
Its aight. Once the LOS is fixed (hopefully) it'll be the a great phone to hang on to.
......
when its 100% it is an awesome phone and there isnt one out that Id want more, but because of the bugs me and the wife both slightly wish we waited longer to pick these up or got different phones without the bugs this phone has...
Id say wait for samsung to send out the update to fix the phone, then get it.
I have 3 Sprint phones in my possession right now. This one, the EVO 3D, and the Nexus S 4G. They are all great phones & each has some sort if advantage over the other. The Nexus S, will surely get ICS shortly after the Galaxy Nexus comes out. It is a great little phone. The EVO 3D is a nice phone & with the CM7 alpha on it, it's every bit as fast as the E4GT. HTC has already announced they well be updating it to ICS. The E4GT has a beautiful screen & is fast as hell. It's simple to use, root & also easy to fix if you mess something up from flashing. I would go to the Sprint store & play with these 3 devices & decide for yourself. I don't think Sprint well get the Galaxy Nexus until mid next year. Samsung has not mentioned one that ics is coming to this phone. The others have already said they'll get it.

Sprint has alot more to worry about than making the nexus a priority as their next samsung smartphone offering. They have their hands full with backorders of Epic 4g touches all over. I have been on the phone for a week, try getting one in a rapid fashion when yours malfunctions day 15 - one day after the 14 day trial ends - Jump through hoops. Been a customer since 1997 here....
As far as ICS, I wont hold my breath, what were working with seems well enough, no?

I'm new to this phone and forum as well, but I came from a much more modest device(htc HD2). It was the most fun I ever had, flashing the hell out of it. Also has a very good dev community. We lost some devs to the Sensation, among other devices...but still going strong. Tytung, a recognized developer, has a near perfect ICS rom for the HD2. I still have my old phone and four batteries, don't think I'll ever get rid of it. Hoping this phone takes off for dev community. I got my sgh t989 for 98.88 at Sam's club with a contract extension of course;-)
Welcome! I came from the HD2 as well. That HD2 is one amazing phone! There is no where near the development level here as with the HD2. That's to be expected, though, the Hercules/Skyrocket is a new and unique device.

I still have my old phone and four batteries, don't think I'll ever get rid of it. Hoping this phone takes off for dev community. I got my sgh t989 for 98.88 at Sam's club with a contract extension of course;-)

There enough good devs for the t989 besides why do we need a hundred Roms when half are not good enough. When the ics port we'll see what this baby can really do.

What!!!!! Modest?????? HD2 is a classic the phone blew the EVO 4g & Nexus One out of the water. With great development and more than plenty of space for app storage, I remember my nexus one had only 50mb left even with hacks and the HD2 had like 500mb that phone until this day still consider a mid-range phone.
I love my original phone.. Sony Xperia x10. . It still has one of the best dev's in there and this phone is STILL being dev'ed. =X
Wish we had more here haha .. but welcome

I'm not saying the HD2 isn't a great phone even to this day, however the OP says he came from the Galaxy Nexus that a lot of people think is the best Android phone to date(mostly because it came with ICS and has the latest and greatest hardware). The HD2 came out in 2009 and is becoming dated. I agree it has a lot still to offer but here's to progress. Just modest in comparison.
welcome......

I'll also be picking up the GSII tomorrow and handing down my Sensation to my son who's currently using my HD2. So I'll be rooting and flashing the GSII , the HD2 to ICS and my TouchPad to Leo's newest ICS release.
Well that's the plan, but I probably won't get all that done easily, since I will most likely play with the GSII all day.

You get a chance to flash that ICS rom yet?
Wow, lots of HD2 owners on here. I finally bit the bullet and "retired" the HD2 this past weekend and took advantage of the "free phone" sale and snapped up the GS2.
Definitely still have love for my HD2, just feeling like it's long in the tooth now and has some issues that I don't want to deal with anymore (long story).
I'm enjoying the GS2 and am now just trying to figure out which ROM to go with. I've tried Juggernaut and am now on Darkside. Hoping to find the right one for me soon.
There definitely was a TON more to choose from for the HD2, both when I was just using WinMo and then Android. Hopefully, the SG2 will grow as well. Also patiently waiting for ICS to come to this device and my Asus Transformer.
i had to sendbthe phone back to Verizon to get my money back....i had trouble tickets in ., moaty for my 4g not working....in my house ...took a couple mounths of then pinging it or whayever....but said beacise i have a 4g phone ,and its not working effectively and there isnt anu 4g coverage ...its in the contract you can leave without termination fees.....i do have a network extender for Verizon ?...hooks up thru interent and makes it like a mini tower...

Another former HD2 owner (sold it on eBay) for a decent sum in about 2 hours - phone was mint (not a nick and functioned perfectly). Got my SG2 with the Valentine's Day promotion. Unfortunately had to bump my plan up to unlimited to receive the "free" phone but they told me I can drop the unlimited after I receive the rebate.
The HD2 was an OK phone until the developers ported over Android. Although it did run a little on the hot side and the GPS was pretty slow it kept me happy until I was able to do an upgrade. Data drops were the only significant issue I ever had and ran AmeriCan daily. More than likely could have kept it for a while but the sale was too hard to pass up and so far I'm lovin this phone.
Considered Verizon's Galaxy Nexus from Amazon at 99.00 but reading the forums it seems to have several problems. Also the build quality seems very cheap compared to the SG2 and the camera and screen are inferior as well.

having compared the screens side by side I'd say it's a bit of a wash. our screen has colors that "pop" better but the 720p resolution on the nexus is pretty damn awesome, even if it is pentile. I'm probably going to go with the nexus because I find ICS much more pleasant to use (and I like not having to wait until manufacturers/carriers get their act together for updates), but they're both great phones. The camera is really the only downside to the nexus imo, I can't for the life of me understand why so many people complain about it being "laggy". I think that has more to do with the fact that one of the few improvements touchwiz has over stock android is the transitions are a bit smoother, actual use/switching between apps is pretty equivalent on both

[POLL] Getting SIII or no

So I don't know about all of you TW haters, I like it. I cant wait till the new TW on the SGS3 gets ported to MY ET4G
I will def get the SGS3 when it hits sprint. Until then, I'm sure someone will dump the rom before its released and port it over to us.
after evo 4g and gs2.. i am starting to miss a solidly built phone ... and the plastic gs3 is really not doing it for me.. and the tweaks in TW doesn't really do much to me.. as i might just flash a aokp rom anyways... for the speed.. it will probably end up getting a s4 making the cpu argument moot... plus i think s4 is plenty fast enough..
so right now evo 4g lte leads it for me. because build quality seems much better.. at least metal back (u probably gonna get some poly carb anyways.. because of the antenna penetration properties)... but i fear i MAY HAVE TO wait for iphone 5 announcement to see what they are cooking up with (gasp).. i dont' like their sw.. but their hw is still the best
I'll be getting the SGIII
been through two Samsungs and two HTCs. No problems with the Samsungs and even though the HTCs seems more solid neither lasted (both EVOs). I'm glad I had insurance on my daughters EVO

I might get it but the design is so ugly! I love my epic but the phone looks horrible, I'm so disappointed
I don't know for sure. I love the E4GT, best phone I have ever had or seen in person for that matter. With that said the SIII is a pretty ugly phone with new software, worse screen, and a better cpu. If the SIII wouldn't have a pentile display I would get it. I want one of the new Evo's. I've heard the SLCD screen is very nice if not the best screen out there now. I also like how it has removable battery and sd card expansion, but why did they have to make the Evo 4g LTE soooo god damn ugly. The One X is a beautiful piece of work. Ya ya it only has 16 gb and I have like 25 gb of music on my phone currently. If I switched to AT&T ( I dont even use 2gb of data a month b/c I am on wifi alot) it wouldn't be a thing to use google music with there being 4g lte in my area. Also sprint network isn't horrible in my area (avg like 1mbs dl) but 4g lte would be niceeee. I don't know what to do. Whats the point of upgrading to an LTE phone on sprint if its not going to be in my area until 2014ish. I'll have a new phone by then. Oh and also Ive looking into it At&T and VZ are cost the exact same as sprint.
I think I will pass on this phone. I am happy with my E4GT for the most part. Also the GSIII does not look like a upgrade from the E4GT to me.
I most likely will get the GS3. It really just depends on what the US version and what the Sprint version will look like and what kind of development will entail for it. The Pentile display kind of worries me. Just have to wait for the customer reviews for that one. But my next phone will either be the Galaxy S 3 or the Galaxy Nexus. Again it just depends on what the US/Sprint version looks like and what features it has. Touchwiz doesn't bother me. I can always theme the stock build to look more like ICS.
Is the case made from ceramic like rumor had it or is it plastic?
Unless its confirmed that the note is coming to sprint by the time the EvoOne is released, I'll probably just go with the EvoOne.

I don't really want to, but I will get it. I'm sitting on an upgrade already. Then again in August. So maybe the evo or note. Then again in 2013

I voted yes. I will get it, but not immediately. I have other financial obligations before buying a new phone.
This is why Im staying Samsung... a reply about the new devices
HTC is committed to listening to users and delivering customer satisfaction. Since announcing our commitment to unlockable bootloaders, HTC has worked to enable our customers to unlock the bootloader on more than 45 devices over the past six months. In some cases, however, restrictions prevent certain devices from participating in our bootloader unlocking program. Rest assured, HTC is committed to assisting developers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices and we'll continue to unlock additional devices in the future."

Hell no will stick with the epic till the next nexus comes out or lte is out in Miami and I will get a nexus galaxy. Tired of Sammy tw and sense. I do like the one x but sprint is not getting it. Also never bought apple but I feel the iPhone 5 might be amazing.

This is exactly where I am at with my thinking. After all, the GNex is a Samsung and I can always get the S3 down the road. I know Sammys inside and out so if I can get good battery on my NS4G, I am sure I can find a setup that will work for me. I hope I hear more about the Sprint version of the S3 before June 1st though

i dont see why people are complaining about the design of the phone. i think it looks awesome. like many others said i will see what the us/sprint version looks like. then if it meets my expectations i will wait a few months after release so that by the time i get it there is a root and a few custom roms for it out
I'm getting it! I been faithful to Samsung for sometime now. I know how we are treated in the States, but I don't blame Samsung

Question for EVO owners

Hey guys. I just wanted to ask a question, I actually posted here sometime ago before I was even with Sprint. But to get straight to the point, in this time of the EVO being older now, what you think of it now? I was thinking about trading my phone for one..

Honestly the evo is a great phone but if i had a Nexus S 4g i wouldnt trade it for a evo. The nexus s 4g development is booming right now with ICS roms that are fully working. Also i believe the NS4G is better hardware wise as well
I've had my evo for close to 2 years now, and I still love it thanks to the awesome rom developers on this site. I'm not sure I would trade down for it if you have a newer, faster device, though.
Had my phone for 2 years. Would probably trade it for something else had it not been for the Deck Rom that I found on this forum. Phone still is very competitive with the rest of the models out there so for me unless i find a model that outperforms my phone by miles i'll stick to Evo. Plus with the new rom Deck Reloaded its better than ever (minus few minor things that need to be ironed out, rom was just released 2 days ago).

I've passed on "upgrading" from my Evo for 14 months, because nothing else was a good enough excuse to give it up. Still the overall best phone I've ever had, so far! I'm still keeping mine to play and hack around on long after my Evo 4G LTE is in my hands.
That's my plan too is to keep to OG Evo to use as a wifi device around the house when I want to listen podcasts and such that the wife doesn't want to hear. On that same note, can't wait for the LTE to drop.
I've had mine since the launch and I still love it. I also tend to stay with a given phone for long hauls; I had my Sony Erickson w810i for almost 4 years (I replaced it with the Evo).
I've had mine for almost 2 yrs. It's the best phone I've had simply for the modification factor. I like to tinker and try new things (ROMs, kernels, themes, etc.) w/o the lockdown hurdle I had with my iPhone. I wouldn't trade down for older tech though. I would think you could get one pretty cheap and not have to give up the newer phone you have.
