AmAzon Kindle Fire 8.9 stock rom return - 8.9" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello yesterday I was rooted and installed Google apps but now I removed the root then I went to restore to factory defaults in kindle settings and when I reboot the kindle fire show the welcome configuration screen but after choose the language tell "setup wizard has stopped " and nothing more return to language menu you choose and the same error in an endless loop. How can I put the stock firmware considering I´m not root anymore and after make the restore to default factory defaults?
Thank you

Get the device into fastboot and fastboot flash the stock boot image, fastboot flash stock recovery then use SRT to restore the stock system image. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011126 . If you never changed the boot image or the recovery then simply just use SRT to replace the system image in fastboot.

but how
But how can I enter into fast boot mode? Remember that I used before the crash a factory default in settings of the kindle settings menu and when booted after that the ADB usb option was removed.and my kindle is not recognized with the command "adb devices" to be detected inside windows I must activate the option of ADB USB inside kindle but kindle I can't enter like you now is stuck in language wizard.
Thank you

This is not Q & A bud it`s development but in order to get into fastboot download SRT shift +right click inside that folder, select open command window here, power off and unplug your device
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
in terminal hit enter, it will say waiting for device, plug your kindle in, it will return product: Jem-PVT-Prod-04. The Kindle will be in fastboot you will see this also on the Kindle screen. Run option 2 on SRT after that has finished select wipe cache and userdata, then select reboot normally. ADB and fastboot are different so it should not matter. I did send you a pm I would be happy to help you get this done.

option 2
The option .w is for restore superuser? I ask because if you remember I removed the root via KFFirstAide32.zip after remove the root I used the restore to factory defaults from kindle and for make that factory defaults from kindle was the problem. Now no matter if there is no root the option 2 of restore superuser can be made? I ask before proceed and make another mistake and how is the kindle of my wife you can imagine.
Now if no matter that I'm unrooted and if all is correct I'll do:
1.- Your command fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
2.-Once in fast mode use the option 2 superuser restore.
3.-Wipe cache
4.-Normal boot
After that am I rooted again and fixed? Or is just the stock firmware installed.
Thank you for the help you are saving my life in my house if this work.

There seems to be a problem with using kindle fire first aide to Restore a kindle fire if not already rooted?
Steps 15 or 16 gets the tablet into fastboot
To restore, go to step 7
Step 7 part way down warns the user that this operation will fail if not rooted?
Seems that if the user has messed up the tablet and it is not rooted, the user cannot restore the system image unless the root note is incorrect.
The next problem is that if a tablet is not in ADB mode, root cannot be achieved?
All of the instructions seem to use only ADB to root the tablet.
I noticed that root many android uses only ADB commands to root.
It looks like KFHD_SRT_v2.1 will restore the system image with root which is good ( will have to try it to see).
What happens if the boot or bootloader is broken?
Is there an image that puts all of the partitions back? (Boot, Bootloader, Recovery and system images)
I found a nice post listing KFHD8.9.restore.zip from soupmagnet which restores all images but, is a linux script and may also need root to complete.

Deleting files from the system folder only affects the current rom(or as you call it, operating system) and doesn't affect ADB or the TWRP recovery program. You can use TWRP to install a new rom, even the stock Kindle rom.
I can't post links, so search google for "kindle fire software update" and you should find amazon's page to download the latest stock rom for the kindle fire. Rename the file to update.zip and transfer it to the storage on your kindle. You can then use TWRP to select the zip file and re-install the stock kindle rom. This WILL break your root, so use the Kindle Fire utility that's linked in the development forum if you want to re-root your kindle.
If you don't have TWRP installed, try using the Kindle Fire Utility (in the development forum) to install TWRP or recover your kindle fire. I hope this helps!

TWRP is the recovery program that you can boot into before the rom loads. You can use the Kindle Fire Utility to install TWRP. If the kindle fire utility isn't working, you can try installing TWRP manually, but you will also need to install FireFireFire, which is the boot loader that replaces the stock kindle loader and allows you to boot into TWRP.
The most important thing is to have ADB access. If you can plug the kindle fire into your PC and get ADB working, you can fix pretty much anything.
How i can be sure that adb is working?

download the latest kfu from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
extract to c:\ and rename "kindle fire utility" to "kfu"
cd to c:\kfu and run "install_drivers.bat"
cd to c:\kfu\tools and type:
"adb devices" - get a response ?
"fastboot devices" - get a respose ?
you should get a response from one of the commands
I have to mention when in b63 post where your in the tools folder it easier to right click inside that folder in an empty space within it, and then press the keyboard's shift key for an option from the right clicked dropdown to open a command prompt window right there. Then type adb devices followed by enter key. Optimum would be a device ##000000000 sorta output in that tiny window , whereas then you could close it and click run in the kindle fire utility from the download. You can see more options to root your device to here with "status info".
Same problem

>>> Hi, I have the same problem here. I accidentally deleted my rooted KF system with no rom saved on my KF (I'm a noob). Now, I did the steps you mentioned above.
This is what I have:
-When I typed ad devices it says "list of devices attached :15FE000600000001"
-Got nothing when typed "fastboot devices.
-On KFU it says" adb statusnline', "boot status:unknown".
-I can't install the Fastboot mode on the KF because it stays on waiting for device.
-My pc recognizes the Kindle as a device on the Device Manager, but I can't explore it because it doesn't show up on My Computer.
-I have already unistalled, deleted, re-install the drivers many times. The one that comes with KFU only makes the adb status go offline. The only driver that makes it show on the computer is the one I get when I connect the KF to the computer and let it download a driver by itself.
Please tell me, what can I do to make it show up so I can paste the rom on the device.

Thanks, I have read it like 3 times, it's just a little confusing for someone dealing with rooting for the first time. What I get is that I need to get the KF come up on Windows so I can paste the rom into the KF and that the KF needs to be in fastboot to install the rom.
Anyway, now the Kindle shows up on KFU as "online" and the bootmode is "4000", but still nothing comes up on the explorer. Twrp is installed and I'm able to load it, but I did not make a Backup. How can I install the system again?
If twrp is installed when you boot into it click on mount, then click mount usb, this is the only way it's going to show up as a mass storage device on your pc so that you can transfer a rom over to it.

Put both zips on your sdcard in zip form, wipe factory/data reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe system, flash rom zip, flash gapps zip, reboot then system if prompted.

Restore kindle fire after twrp2.0 to factory default without firefirefire

Hey I tried like many other people here to get twrp2.0 on to my Kindle Fire 6.2.2.
the twrp installation stocked at the Yellow Triangle. I set the boot normal option and I can Boot to the Kindle Fire OS.
But I still have the firefirefire boot loader with the Yellow Triangle on my Device when booting.
Is there any chance to remove it? I read some people did a update from 6.2.1 to 6.2.2. But I already have 6.2.2 installed. Is there any other way to remove it?
Or is there any other bootloader I can Use I would so like to install Android ICS on my Kindle Fire.
why do you want to remove it ?
it is your "safety net" to get to recovery in case of a failure !
fff and a recovery (twrp or cwm) are the most important things to have on a rooted kf to avoid realy complicated bricks
because it is not working I can not boot in to the recovery mode so it is useless for me I think so I just want to go back to the Original Firmware.
that will not help you
if you want to install a other rom then you need twrp
the trwp install failure is very common and very easy to fix:
download twrp from http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img
rename it to "recovery.img" and copy it over the bad file in the recovery folder of kfu
then do the install again - you'll see it works
I am curious about restoring the factory kindle software myself. Not because I don't like cm. Everything works great including firefirefire, twrp, and cm9. I have just installed cm on a few kindles that don't belong to me and I know sooner or later someone is going to say, "I want my original software back" I am assuming the process will be as easy as using twrp to install a stock.zip or similar for a stock rom? In the event they want to have the original kindle boot logo, will that be as simple as using adb to issue a simple DD if=stockboot.img of=/some/blkdev/on/kindle? Thanks in advance

I followed these instructions but TWRP 2.0 seems to be stuck. It says "Factory reset started" and then "Factory reset complete" twice. Then "E:Unable to open zip file." I renamed the bin file to Update.zip as instructed.
Is it OK to try and get out of this and reboot back to TWRP?

I face a similar issue. My KF automatically shut down and goes into the yellow triangle loop while watching YouTube. And it got stuck in the yellow triangle attempted to fastboo to normal boot. Within the few second it **** down and goes into the yellow triangle.
I just want to restore my kf to the stock firmware how can I do that.

I am having the exact same issues but my Kindle just reboots to the triangle randomly.
It all started when I decided to re-root after my system was updated to 6.3, I was on 6.2 when I first got the Kindle and I rooted with Burrito root and it worked fine. The only reason I rooted was so I could use the Android Market, which still worked fine after the system updated to 6.3, but stupid me had to make sure it was rooted so I used the Kindle Fire utility and that’s what hosed my Kindle. Never doing that again.
Anyway, I’m trying Justin’s steps above. Ill report what happens.
Looks like Justin's solution worked for me. I’m back to the factory and there is no TWRP menu when I reboot and it’s the original Kindle Fire image on bootup. Now I just need to see if I get anymore random shut down issues.
I renamed the download to update.zip, and I see it in the root folder, but when I boot into TWRP 2.1.1, I ca't see it in the root directory. I know I named it correctly because on my PC I can open it with an archiver... What am i doing wrong?
whoops
well i f'd up. i finally got twrp to install using a different file. however, it appears that i must've accidentally hit a wrong number when installing late last night, cause it appears i also have clockworkmod installed and it superceded twrp i guess.. can't load it. Anyone got any ideas on how to remove CWM with TWRP also installed. damn what a mess.
Trying to fallback using the latest image (6.3.2) from Amazon
I followed Justin's recipe with the exception of the Amazon load image version. I used the latest stable one instead.
My TWRP version is v2.5.0.0 - another potential difference and it might be significant (Justin never said what version of TWRP he started with).
What follows is what I saw upon executing Justin's steps 16-18.

---------------------------
1. Anyone else see these symptoms? Have a work-around or solution?
2. Any other suggestions?
My goal is to sell my Kindle Fire 1st generation with only Amazon software on it. TWRP yellow distraction - while it hurts nothing it is a scare for most purchasers.
Thank you for any assistance.

How to get TWRP?

I rooted my Kindle Fire two weeks ago and updated it to jellybean 4.2 using the ROM developed by hashcode. Now after the update, I feel like I bricked my device. Because first of all TWRP (blue Kindle fire logo with boot options below) is not loading in startup but regular Kindle fire logo is seen. And I can't install TWRP using Kindle Fire Utility because my device is now a different ROM and KFU can't detect my Kindle. And I'm not at all satisfied with the battery life of Kindle Fire on JB 4.2 and it gets hot like red-hot-iron even just when I watch a video. Somebody please help me to at least to get TWRP on my kindle so I could just set it to default ROM or any other. Or please tell me a way to get out of this condition.

The blue & white Kindle Fire logo with boot options is FireFireFire, not TWRP. You may or may not have TWRP installed but without access to it you'll probably never know.
If you have root permissions, the easiest and most straight forward way of getting FFF installed is to do so through terminal emulator on your device (install it if you have to).
1) Download FFF1.4.zip onto your device and extract it. That should put the resulting folder in /sdcard/extracted. There, find the uboot.bin file and move it directly to the root of your sdcard (i think it's named something like "firefirefire1.4u-boot.bin"...rename it to "u-boot.bin").
2) Then open terminal emulator and enter the following commands:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/uboot.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p[B]2[/B][COLOR=Red]<---This is a [U]TWO[/U][/COLOR]
That will overwrite your bootloader partition with the new u-boot.bin. Just reboot and it should work. The problem with that is, if you get a corrupt download, it may hard-brick your device. Be sure to do an md5 check.
A safer way to do this is through TWRP. You can install and access TWRP relatively in the same manner with terminal emulator.
1) Download the TWRP.img and the FFF1.4.zip (don't extract it) onto your device and place them on the root of your sdcard. (rename TWRP to "twrp.img" to make things easier)
2) In terminal emulator, enter the following commands:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p[B]5[/B][COLOR=Red]<---This is a [U]FIVE[/U], not a TWO...pay attention[/COLOR]
idme bootmode 5001
reboot
3) In TWRP, flash the FFF1.4.zip, but don't wipe anything. This method will automatically check the md5 of FFF before installing it and reduce the possibility of accidentally bricking the device.
Reboot and all will be well.

Thanks for the help! But I have a doubt, because my Kindle is on Jelly Bean, it is on MTP mode when connected to computer. Will it be a problem? And where do i get a non-corrupted FFF1.4.zip ?

Terminal emulator is an app that is run on the device, not the computer, so it doesn't matter what settings you have enabled or whether your drivers are working properly. And there is one main source for FFF1.4. Corruption, if it happens, usually happens when downloading so an md5 check needs to be done before flashing the file you downloaded to your bootloader partition.

Amazon KF2 (v.10.4.3 & v10.4.6) - Install CyanogenMod

First - sorry for my English. Last monday i received my KF2 and when I could not find the instructions on this forum for version 10.4.3 - i decided to try it myself.
Introducing: Kindle Fire 2 (v10.4.3 & v10.4.6 already tested) installing CyanogenMod
** YOU SHOULD HAVE A WORKING NORMAL (NOT FASTBOOT) CABLE + ADB DRIVERS/ACCESS ON YOUR PC. **
*** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! WHILE I TRY MY BEST TO PROVIDE WORKING KERNELS/ROMS, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THIS SOFTWARE OR ANYTHING I'VE WORKED ON SUDDENLY FRIES YOUR DEVICE. ***
*** READ CAREFULLY BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ***
*** Kindle Fire 1st-gen ROMs/KERNELS are *NOT* compatible with the Kindle Fire 2. Please only flash ROMs/KERNELS that are made for the Kindle Fire 2. ***
** IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, RE-READ THROUGH THE THREAD FOR ANSWERS. WHEN YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY SURE NO ONE HAS ASKED YOUR QUESTION, GO AHEAD AND RE-READ THE THREAD AGAIN AND USE THE SEARCH FEATURE. THEN POST YOUR QUESTION IF YOU STILL CAN'T FIND THE ANSWER **
INITIAL SETUP INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1. Install ADB Drivers for Kindle HD and enable ADB on tablet Settings->Security->Enable ADB->On
Check ADB:
Code:
C:\> adb devices
List of devices attached
0123456789ABCDEF device
If you do NOT see this, then make sure you have the SDK installed correctly and you have the right setup for ADB on your PC before proceeding.
STEP 2. Backup your stock partitions to your own HD for later if you need disaster recovery:
Code:
adb pull /dev/block/mmcblk0boot0
adb pull /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/boot
adb pull /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/recovery
adb pull /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/system # This will take a few minutes
Take those files and put them somewhere safe.
STEP 3. Getting root
Just follow this threat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075959 -> everything working fine
STEP 4. Downgrade your bootloader
Download the older 10.2.4 bootloader file and flash to your device via fastboot:
http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/otter2/otter2-u-boot-prod-10.2.4.bin
md5sum 5b03a7b428325de8d360ec201a745498
(You SHOULD check this before using fastboot -- downloads CAN be corrupted)
Open cmd and promt:
Code:
adb shell su -c "reboot bootloader"
Your Kindle should reboot in fastboot mode, and now flash bootloader:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader otter2-u-boot-prod-10.2.4.bin
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
STEP 5. Install TWRP
First, download CM and GAPPS and copy it to SDCARD:
CM-10.1 for the Kindle Fire 2 (choose the latest version from):
http://www.get.cm/?device=otter2
Google Apps from: http://goo.im/gapps (choose the top rom CM10.1 version)
1. Copy com.powerpoint45.FMKilo-2.apk to the tablet (you can get this apk from here http://d-h.st/n7L)
2. Enable on Kindle: Device -> Allow Installation of Applications
3. Use file browser (i recomended to use ES Explorer) to install apk.
4. Run Tweezermod Installer and answer on all question about Super User -> "Allow"
** If everything was done correctly you will at this point see the bootmenu with a BLUE logo during the reboot. **
In this time your kindle can not boot, u'll see BLUE logo, then ORANGE and then device restarted again. Don't worry - it's ok
STEP 6. Install CyanogenMod
TO ENTER RECOVERY:
During the blue logo screen press the power button to cycle through options and select "Recovery" to enter TWRP.
Once in TWRP you can Install" the CM-10.1 by selecting "Install" and then browsing the device and selecting it, then "Add Zip" and select the Gapps .zip as well.
Use the slider to start the install.
Dont forget to do FULL WIPE - cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system.
Enjoy
Tested on my Kindle Fire 2 v10.4.3 & v10.4.6
7" KF HD 2, 10.4.6
This tutorial worked perfectly, up until the end, step 6.
I'm new to Kindle, but not Android. I got into TWRP prior to downloading CM10.2 and Gapps. And when i try to mount as USB, and this line shows in the log:
"Unable to locate volume information for USB storage mode"
Googling didn't help much with investigating that error. ADB sideload doesn't seem to work.
I don't know what to do from here.

Check STEP 1 to check ADB. If it not working check this manual https:// developer.amazon.com/sdk/fire/connect-adb.html
When ADB start working - copy CM and GAPPS to kindle:
Promt in CMD:
Code:
adb push /path/to/filename /sdcard/download/filename
I'm also on Win7 x64.
When it is on ADB Sideload, I see in my Device manager Amazon Kindle Fire2, but it appears to not be loading the drivers correctly.
ADB Devices are not showing any attached devices. Ideas?
---------- Post added at 09:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:29 AM ----------
Also in my Device Manager, Portable Devices, it shows F: but there's no F: in my windows explorer.
I found instructions via terminal emulator to get it rebooted into fastboot, in hopes of flashing CM 10.2 via fastboot.
Looking up the fastboot syntax for flashing a new rom, I've always used recovery on my other devices, but i don't have that option now.

ADB Sideload - good idea. Try this manual:
1. Set the device into ADB sideload mode. In TWRP you do this by going to Advanced then ADB Sideload.
2. From the command line on PC, type adb sideload /path/to/rom.zip
The file will be copied to your device to whatever the current storage location is that you have selected in the mount page. It will always be placed in the root of that storage location and named sideload.zip (e.g. /sdcard/sideload.zip) and it will automatically delete / overwrite any existing sideload.zip you may have on your device. As soon as the file is copied to your device, it will automatically be installed. When the install is finished you will be presented with a reboot system button so that you can reboot to test your zip.
Note that sideload mode is a separate ADB mode. While in sideload mode, regular ADB commands will not work. Once the zip has been copied to the device and the install starts (or if you hit the cancel button) regular ADB mode will resume.
My mistake in manual. Better way - copy rom file to sdcard before STEP 5.
I'm still unable to use adb sideload, reports "device not found". I have the usb drivers installed, your tutorial is the only one I have used, I can't use TWRP at all.
It works, but USB drive mounting doesn't work, ADB sideload doesn't seem to work. No errors in the log, but ADB reports device not found.
I don't know what to do from here. It's nothing like 4EXT or CWM.
Ok so I have got it in fastboot by going to Advanced->Terminal, idme bootmode 4
Once in fastboot , fastboot -i 0x1949 devices returned a device number
I flashed CM10.2 using "fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system CM102.zip
Then I ran fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 1
Then rebooted, doesn't load ROM, got back into TWRP, changed bootmode back to 1, reboot, says I have no OS.
That's my current status. Seems others have been at this point before, still workin on this.
Ok you can give up on thinking now, I've bricked it. No signs of life.
I flashed the 7.23 bootloader and TWRP 2.6 from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848
via fastboot, and now it's done for.
Found a rooted one on craigslist for $120 to replace this one for my father in law.
I've rooted a good few other Android devices, but never a tablet, first try on a KFHD2.
I give up on Kindle's.

Don't trash the old one after u get the new one, we have a viable method now to unbrick a hard bricked kindle. The person behind the fix is working on a more user friendly version of the device that doesn't require soldering. Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391047

Assuming you have a Kindle Fire 2nd Generation, it's "hard-bricked."
Read the FAQ if you haven't already, specifically Q14 (although, read them all). Then, I would see if you can get Amazon to send you a replacement.
If they won't do that, take a look at this thread and this thread by me. As of now, I've succeeded in returning a hard-bricked KF2 to soft-bricked, but working out some bugs in order to return it to fully functional after that.

[Q] Kindle fire 8.9 LTE 2nd gen on 8.5.1 root help

i recently was given a 2nd Gen Kindle Fire HD 8.9 that has 8.5.1 on it.. it has never been rooted, and does not have officesuites on it. i cannot find a specific how to for a rooting solution. ive found a script that might have worked on http://forum.xda-developers.com/kin...nable-to-root-access-fastboot-kindle-t2933163 if i had officesuites. its a thread that hasnt been active in some months so im not confident on a solution.
my question is..
can someone direct me to a known how-to for rooting a 2nd Gen HD 8.9 with 8.5.1 that hasnt been rooted already.
anyone have an ANSWER and not just that they have the same issues?
not everybody all at once now... ive continued looking and even some KNOWN good methods for 8.5.1 arent working.. none of the tools see the filepath or recognise the kindle. I can verify that adb is connected but then i go back to the tool folder and it starts messing up.
or worse.. links to a method are broken and not updated anymore..
I also need to root my FireHD 8.9 2nd gen that is on 8.5.1. Did you ever find a solution? Were you able to downgrade?
Kingroot was able to root my Kindle with 8.5.1.

You should be able to downgrade with KFHD System.img Recovery Tool
I actually used this tool to fix bricked KFHD 8.9 but the end result is with firmware 8.1.4 so you can pick up from there and root the device. It doesn't really matter what version of firmware you have at the moment.
*Install Android SDK before using this tool.
Below are some notes I made myself when I was fixing my KFHD 8.9 LTE with this tool.
Brick can be fixed by KFHD System.img Recovery tool.
Download KFHD_SRTv2.1-8.1.4, boot and recovery image.
Connect Fire HD 8.9" to computer with regular USB cable then turn it off (it will be turned on automatically when it is connected to computer).
Run SR Tool.bat then choose option 1 and n for next question.
Hold down the volume up button and press power on the tablet for about 3 seconds and then release the power button and continue holding down the volume up button.
Tablet should display the yellow fastboot logo and KFHD recovery tool will verify that you are in fastboot.
Flash the system with option 2.
Erase cashe and user data with option 4.
Open a separate cmd window and navigate to directory where boot and recovery image are.
Use these commands to flash them.
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery recovery.img
Return to the KFHD recovery tool window and select option 6, wait for tablet to fully reboot and then enable adb and allow applications from unknown sources. Reboot takes several minutes so be patient.
KFHD recovery tool then asks to press any key to continue and it is supposed to install google framework but tablet was not recognised at this stage. Without google framework Fire HD 8.9" still works fine though. Just have to make sure that the device is connected with ADB interface. Check on device manager and make sure 'Android Composite ADB Interface' is up and running under Kindle Fire.
Fire HD 8.9" should be in stock stage with fire os 8.14 now.
There is no need to downgrade. Kingroot provides root for this device even with the latest firmware.
Once rooted, TWRP can be installed via the methods presented in other threads.
Looks like Sonic posted his while I was writing . It sounds much easier than going through downgrade. I would say go with kingroot if it works. :good:

Just wanted to give you an extra thanks for such a simple solution. I used the KingRoot APK to root 8.5.1 easily. Then I flashed TWRP 3.0.1-0 successfully using FireFlash. Rebooted into TWRP, flashed RessurectionRemix ROM and BAM, it's like a new tablet.
Kudos to you both for taking the time to help out.
