[Q] Google wallet - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So I got the Google wallet app installed on my t989 using this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wFhy0O4hWc&feature=youtube_gdata_player by zedomax and it worked but.... I keep getting stuck on the "setting up wallet this will take up to 5 minutes" screen and can't get passed it I googled the problem and some people said to wipe data for the app or play store or revolt nothing has worked o tried like 10 times just seeing if I could get some help here thanks!!

From what I understand and this has been previously mentioned assuming you can get Google wallet installed and the app running you are still missing a critical part. Google wallet requires something called the "secure element" which our phones do not have built in. Further more T-Mobile is coming out with their own version called Isis and it requires a new sim card which has the secure element built in. It is all ready being beta tested in 2 states currently. T-Mobile has declared that this year will be the year of NFC so I can only assume that they will expand the usage of Isis. In conclusion until that happens or you get on the sprint network using either a gs3 or a nexus device you will not be able to use Google wallet. My suggestion acquire a nexus 7 and use that until it happens with Isis....good luck

My cousin got the nexus 4 from T-Mobile and Google wallet was already pre installed on it out the box

Thanks that must be what is giving me the hang up that it can't find the secure element I have a nexus 7 but don't always carry it with me and wanted wallet on my phone but I guess I'll just wait

No worries, I have personally started carrying around my n7 so I can so that plus its nice to have around and don't forget that T-Mobile had stated that "this year they will make NFC happen......" Hopefully that means that they will bring on Isis.

Google Wallet issue

I just got my (Sprint)Samsung Galaxy S III and when I open Google Wallet I get a popup that says...

I'm having the same exact issue. Just got my sprint gs3 today. Mine is a 32gb and is stock / never been rooted. I'm in the KC area. Makes me wonder if its a software issue, or regional issue.
I'll add my name to the list. I'm still stock and I was getting the above Google Wallet error right away on my new 32GB SGS3.

I thought I had heard the 16GB versions were working. I bet Sprint and Google just need to get together and make sure the 32GB version is added to the list of approved devices, hopefully that can be fixed in the next day or two.

Wallet Fix
There is a fix, at least it worked for me!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360
SE borked?
I guess this is more of a vote than anything else. I successfully activated Google Wallet on my Sprint SGS3 on 6/22 and added my Citi card. Doing so also automatically activated a $10 Google gift card.
I then rooted my device and ensured Google Wallet was still a go (I simply would receive the warning banner stating that the device was technically unsupported due to root).
I then started reading reports that Google Wallet was dead for various users so I checked again and sure enough, no more access to Wallet for me.
I wanted to see if the Sprint LF9 update would cure me. I took a risk and decided to unroot my device (ODIN back to stock). Since I couldn't clear and deactivate Wallet before I ODINed back to stock, do you think my SE is dead?
In other words, you think I should try to exchange my device now or wait to see if the Wallet issue is fixed and then check my device to see if everything is functional?
I guess I could always root again and attempt to apply the workarounds posted in the forum. Anyway, let me know what you think and thanks for the input.

Google Wallet now supported on Verizon Galaxy Nexus?

So with today's Wallet update, I was trying to get it working on my Nexus 7 tablet. For some reason, the update wasn't showing right away, so I found a Play Store link online. Surprisingly, it listed my Verizon Galaxy Nexus as being compatible. I installed right from the browser Play Store. It was sent to my device, and after a brief force close or two during setup, it is now running on both my Nexus 7 and Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
I am not rooted, but am unlocked. Stock 4.0.4. The only thing I do notice is that the Google Prepaid Debit Card is different on both devices, even though it's setup using the same Google Account (The Galaxy Nexus has a prepaid card that I added back in January with the correct balance, the Nexus 7 has a brand new debit card with 10 dollars pre-loaded on it).
Anyone else notice this? Was it just a glitch in the system that let me do this?

It still does not support the Verizon Nexus.
About the $10, I don't know if can call it a glitch or not. But google gives you the free $10 every time you activate a new device.
Call money market and have them transfer the balance from your phone to your Nexus 7 and you get to keep the $10 from the tablet.
It happened to me when I exchanged my nexus at verizon, I got $10 from my original nexus, and another $10 from the new phone.
Found a link to google wallet on the playstore and was able to install on Verizon GNex. Seems to be working fine, was able to put in credit card. Weird thing is the prepaid card shows $15 on my Verizon GNex and $10 on my Nexus 7.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel&hl=en
Won't let me install it through the above link.
It is still giving me the dreaded: "This app is incompatible with all of your devices." message.
It's working
I uninstalled the modded apk I had before. Make sure to reset google wallet before uninstalling. The new wallet version released today does not use the secure element anymore, but you should clear the secure element just in case.
Google wallet won't show up on the device play market, but if you go to google play website and select your phone, hit install and it will automatically install it on your phone.

Vicious 4.1.1 w/ Faux worked for me in the past but Team EOS on both the VZW Nexus and my N7 (both with Trinity kernels) won't list on Play through devices and will only show incompatible with all devices through computer Play store.
Went through the play store when I first saw this thread and it said my Verizon Gnex, completely stock, not rooted, was not compatible due to carrier limitations.
Just went back now and it let me install it... Awesome! Not sure what to say lol
I tried searching the store on both my Vicious 4.1.1 phone as well as via desktop, and couldn't locate it. it's just like it didn't exist.
However, i came to XDA to see if i could sideload it or whatnot, and found the link posted in this thread to the store. Clicked it, saw my phone as "compatible," clicked it, and 10 seconds later i was in business.
crazy.
I've been trying for the past few days, but even with the direct link to wallet on the market, I cannot install it on my stock Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I'm not rooted and not unlocked. Why do I suspect this is a mistake that they are trying to fix and they are busy making it unavailable to all again?
Wasn't on my Play Store either, but side loaded just fine. PA 1.9.2 (CM 10 base)

Had installed since January, but rarely used due to lack of AMEX integration. Just used at Home Depot and much to the surprise of the cashier the bill was paid. Followed by an alert email from AMEX to let me know there was a transaction without card being present.
Hopefully AMEX gets fully onboard so I don't have to have the virtual MasterCard.

Google wallet now available for Verizon devices

For all of you that don't know yet. Today's Google wallet update is now available for vzw users.
I did read comments that vzw users will need a "smart sim"
Can anyone educate me on what a smart sim is?

Has anyone tried NFC payments with this version? I'm rooted and running a hacked older version of the Wallet app on my VZW GNex that still works with NFC, and I don't think the new features are enough for me to want to lose NFC.
Anyone?
Brad
You need a secure sim. Go to my Verizon and you'll be able to order one for free. It should ask you if you want one somewhere underneath your phone picture.
Unfortunately, vz still blocked tap to pay payments. So, right now, it doesn't matter what you have. I got a secure sim a while ago just to be ready when everything is ready to go.
If you have recently upgraded your phone at a vz store, you m may already have an NFC enabled secure sim.

I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus (rooted/custom ROM) and it sets up fine for me. It doesnt say that my device isnt supported like the last version. The Tap and Pay sets up with no issues and under settings>about>Tap and Pay, it says "device is ready for tap and pay purchases." I havent tried making a purchase yet but everything seems to work fine so far.
OK, here's an update base on my experiments yesterday (9/18):
Non-rooted VZW GNex with new Google Wallet: NFC payment successful
Rooted VZW GNex with old (modified) Wallet: NFC payment successful
After these tests, I updated my rooted phone with the new app, but I have not yet tried it. All indications are that it should work (e.g. it says it's "ready"). Both SIMs are at least a year old and almost certainly not "secure SIMs" (is there any way to verify with the device?)
So, get the app and start making some NFC payments! It's great entertainment for the night crew at Whataburger and Jack in the Box.

I dont think you need a special SIM. People have confirmed it working already without it
So, ive had GW installed for a long time with an apk i got off here. Can anyone confirm that accepting the update google play is offering will not break being able to use nfc to pay?
Might try it tonight. I would probably disable before taking update being you probably have an unsupported version now technically.

I am running liquidsmooth and I can confirm that tap to pay is functioning properly. Just bought myself some grub at mcdonalds. I still have the same sim that I got 2 years ago with launch of the gnex.
Doesn't matter whether you have a secure sim or not, the API for the secure sim wasn't on the gnex or implemented properly.
Beamed from my Maguro
I remember when the gnex first came out and Google Wallet worked right out of the box!
I've been using the GW app from the APK I got here. I didn't need anything special because my VZW Gnex came with the secure SIM already in it. I installed the update and will try it later today.
I don't have a special sim and the version right from the play store works absolutely fine on my Verizon galaxy nexus including tap to pay. I've used it at the store several times already since the update. The secure sims are for Isis, not Google wallet.

OK, here's some technical info.
The Play Store installs two different versions of the Wallet 2.0 app, depending on whether you present yourself as an NFC-pay supported phone (via build.prop values) or not.
If you change your build.prop to be, say, the Sprint Note 2 (SPH-L900 t0ltespr) and then install Wallet from the Play Store, you will get the NFC-pay enabled version. All other phones get the "castrated" version.
Now, on Note 3, even if you do that, there a few things Sucksung/T-Mobile did in the stock ROM (completely reversible) to make NFC-pay on Wallet not work.
First, they removed the Wallet signature keys from /etc/nfcee_access.xml, so Wallet will complain it doesn't have sufficient privileges to the secure element. That's fine - you just add the keys back (get them from any AOSP ROM), and boom, Wallet has access to the secure element again.
Then, there are a few other bits and pieces of system software (libraries and kernel modules) that I'm trying to figure out that need to be in place for Wallet to work, as right now it just FCs. If not me, then someone will probably beat me to putting together a "fix" ZIP package that will re-enable Wallet on the stock ROM.
This problem, of course, will not be present on any AOSP ROM as all the required bits are included in those by default.
Also, remember Wallet 2.0 no longer includes a root, region, or carrier check, so "Wallet Patcher" plugins for XPosed or anything like that are not required.
The way to set up NFC-pay enabled Wallet 2.0 on an unsupported device (with a ROM that hasn't been carrier-castrated to disable NFC-pay):
1. Change your build.prop to masquerade as a supported device (e.g., SPH-L900 t0ltespr) and reboot.
2. Go to Play Store, install Wallet.
3. Launch Wallet and set it up as usual. Once it finishes and you see "Ready to Tap and Pay" undearneath your Wallet balance, you're good.
4. Restore your build.prop to its original values and reboot. Wallet NFC-pay will remain working.

Several Sprint devices have worked with Google Wallet. There's no surprise there because Sprint is not one of the founders of Isis. The Isis founders are AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. They all seem to block Google Wallet, probably because Wallet competes with their service. Yes, I've heard that wallet worked on the Nexus 4 on T-Mobile, but that's the only device I've heard that worked. It's possible the Nexus 4 was the exception, not the rule.
In short, I wouldn't expect Google Wallet to work on T-Mobile, except maybe with future Nexus devices.

A recent update to Google Wallet has made it usable, but limited for most of the latest Android devices. However, to use the NFC feature is only allowed on Nexus phonest.
I just purchased my Note3 yesterday from my local T-Mobile store. I have been using my Note2 for just a year, and have been using ISIS everywhere until they stopped the pre-paid function. Now, you need to either have an American Express card (not the pre-paid version) or be a Chase bank customer (which i'm not) to use the full functionality of ISIS.
Only Nexus devices and phones from Sprint have Google Wallet working with NFC. Even unbranded Sony Xperia Ion can't have NFC working with Google Wallet.
