[Q] Kindle e-reader issue - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to start by thanking Hashcode for Jelly Beaning the kindle fire!
I recently Jelly Beaned my kindle and I'm having an issue with my Google Book and Kindle apps. I'm unable to search files locally for the books that I have saved on my Kindle Fire. I don't know if this has anything to do with the mass storage issue, but I was hoping someone came across a solution for this.
Thanks

When I switched from stock Kindle Fire to Hashcode's Jelly Bean 4.2.2r1 (just last thursday) I had to redownload all local books. Have you tried simply downloading one while wireless is on in the Amazon Kindle app? You should be able to find your books in the Archive section.

I tried and for some reason I can not upload my books I have stored on my Kindle. Usually the options show (Home, On Device, Archive, Store). Now there are no options at all, only the home button. And I cannot not find a way to upload my books from my device.

Okay, it almost sounds like your kindle app is starting up without being authenticated into your account. I'd start by clearing the apps data and then uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
settings->apps->Amazon Kindle
choose clear data, then when that completes tap uninstall. Once that has completed go to the google play store and bring down the app again. Properly log in and see if you get different behavior. If that does not work, I'd go to the Amazon Kindle web page for your account and manage your devices, see if you have an entry for Account Name's Android Tablet or not (where account name is replaced by your account name).

Thank you for trying to help. I did that and for somereason the toolbar is not at the top of the app as it usually is. I downloaded kindle on all my other androids and the toolbar selection "on the device" is labeled on top and allows me to migrate my books into the reader. I can't figure out why it won't even show the toolbar on my kindle now.
Thanks again for the help

I apologize for the delay, I was on vacation and had horrible internet where I was. Wow, I've never had the toolbar disappear on an app like that. Hopefully someone else has seen this sort of behavior and can give you some insight.
Have you installed any display type mods, something like a tablet mode change on top of hashcode's AOSP or some sort of theme?

Hopefully! Thanks for trying

[Q] Can't read the book in amazon kindle

I have rooted my kindle fire and update to 6.2 version. Then I uninstall some apps for amazon(I didn't uninstall the amazon kindle app). However , today ,I find that i can't read the book in amazon kindle.
Can anyone help me?
Just a guess since you really don't say, but if you are not using the Kindle Launcher (ie using something else like Go Launcher ... )... If so, this is a known issue. click on the Kindle Launcher, go to books and your books should show and load properly.

I have tried to enter the launcher which installed by amazon. However, there is no response when i open a book in the shelf of the BOOks or Docs.
I really want to know how to resolve this problem.
I don't have that problem. all my books load just fine when using Books from within the Kindle Fire Launcher.

Thought you don't know how to do it . Thanks all the same
Yesterday evening, I took another kindle fire from my friend and checked the application one by one.
If you want to use the amazon kindle to read books, do not uninstall the app "Amazon kindle fire ","Device plat form".
I deleted "Device plat form" to cause that problem.
Now everything is ok!
I don't understand. If you deleted the app, how did you fix the problem?
I think I screwed up by Clearing Data for that app.
Now the Launcher seems to relaunch itself every few seconds, making it nearly impossible to launch an app, book, etc.
This should work but will not work the same as the amzone reader you got now it will look different but is the same in the long run.
Go to google market and search amazon Then install the Amazon Kindle app. You can open this app from any launcher

For those interested, I was able to fix my problem by setting "Launcher" to the default, re-rooting, then unrooting.
I'm not sure what caused the Launcher glitchiness: installing other launchers, clearing data, or something the first time I rooted. Regardless, it works now!

I copy the app from my friend's kindle fire and install it in the system again. then ,reboot , It's OK!
I had the same problem after rooting, removing the amazon stuff and installing google market. Interestingly, after loading google market, I went to 'my apps' and there was an update available for kindle. I installed the update and now it launches without needing the amazon launcher.
Reinstall update 6.2 manually, I had this issue as well. (next time dont uninstall, freeze and see how things run.) hope this helps.

Just thought I'd chime in since I found this helpful, and in the process found a fix for another issue.
I just recently rooted my Kindle Fire and was having some issues viewing the Android Market on it, and went to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24312196&postcount=17 to resolve that issue.
However, after turning on my device the today, I was unable to open PDF's from the "Device" section of the DOCS tab. I would click a PDF, it would appear to open, then the screen would turn gray with the word "kindle" in the middle, and nothing would happen. I backed all the way out, powered off the device, powered it back on, went all the way back to opening the PDF but this time "Amazon Kindle" wanted me to register. I input my email address and password and clicked the "register" button, and some tabs appeared at the top of the screen, and that's it. I backed out all the way again, rebooted my Kindle, and when I went back to the DOCS tab, all of my documents were gone!
I frantically opened ES File Explorer and navigated to the "Documents" folder, and all of my PDF's were still there. I was rather confused. I did a couple more reboots and this same issue persisted.
So I was having two issues.
1. "Amazon Kindle" was not opening PDF's.
2. The "DOCS" tab was not displaying anything.
How did I fix it? After deleting the cache from the "Kindle Fire" app via Settings --> Applications --> All Applications, I opened the Play Marketplace (or whatever it's called now), selected the Amazon Kindle app, and selected "Uninstall" which prompted me if I wanted to uninstall all of the updates. I selected yes, and also deselected the "allow automatic updating" option, then backed all the way out.
Everything works perfect now.

[Q] Keeping Books & Documents after deregister of an account

Hi everyone,
I've got 2 different Amazon accounts. I've purchased a lot of books with my
Kindle One a year ago and I've recently bought a new Kindle Fire.
In order to access the Books on my old account, I have to register and deregister the device and download the books from cloud to the device every time.
I am just curious if there is a way to keep my Books and Documents after deregistering form my old Amazon account.
My Kindle fire is rooted and I've just found out that Kindle stores all books in my ''books'' folder after downloading them from cloud but If after that you deregister the device it simply deletes all of them. Now after making a backup of all files and putting them back in books folder Kindle doesn't recognize or show them after all.
Any Ideas?
Thank you in Advance
cheers

I don't know if Amazon changed their Kindle app or what, but I do know that after downloading my books from the cloud within my Kindle app, they didn't show up in either my "Books" or "kindle" folder. Typical Amazon BS.
What you can do however, is sign in to your old amazon.com account, go to "Manage Your Kindle" to view your library. For each book or document you want, under "Actions", select "Download & transfer via USB"
You can then transfer the .amz files you downloaded onto your computer to the device's "kindle" or "Books" folder depending on which one it uses. On mine it's "kindle" but yours could be different...I've never used the stock Kindle reader so I'm not sure.
It's tedious but worth it if you want all of your documents in one place.

Hi,
Thanks but I've just tried that. It is so weird there are absolutely no
purchased stuff listed when I access my account via PC there are only listed on my Kindle Fire so no way to download them...???
If I could figure out what one can do with those prc Files that would be great.
Are those maybe encrypted?? I think amazon encrypts the files so they can't be shared around easily ...

[Q] Kindle Store Newsstand and Books

I have a rooted KF with GO Launcher EX and Google Play Store installed. I have no problem accessing Music, Video, and Apps from the Kindle Store, however when trying to access Newstand and Books from the Kindle Store it seems as if I am directed to a web version of the Kindle store. It is not the familar grey and orange layout and many mags and books are listed as not available.
Hopeing to find a solution, thanks

That means that Google Play updated your Kindle app and replaced it. Try uninstalling the update in the settings.

Thanks, I have uninstalled the update from the applications section of the KF but still have the same problem. The option to completely uninstall the app is greyed out. Is there anything else I could do?
(Update) After a while this solution did work, is there some way to prevent the Kindle app from automatically updating again?:
In Google Play Store there is a check box that states Allow automatic updating this is checked by default for the kindle for android. Unchecking this box will stop the automatic updating/replacing of the default kindle fires kindle app. Hope this helps
Thank you!

[Q] Can You Still ACcess Amazon App Store if it is rooted?

Hello guys, I am a tech-savvy momma here and I was wondering if I can be able to access the App Store from my Amazon FTV? I wanted to get Classic TV on there so that I can install ILama so I can be able to see my sideloaded apps on the home screen. I bought my Amazon FTV from a guide that roots them for you. His account's name is under his name but if I change it to my account, it being under his account, would that mess up everything??? I need help with this asap! Thanks!

You can change the login to your name. However if he has any of his purchased app from amazon such as AirDLNA. those will have to be repurchased and re-installed on your firetv. You can surely still access the amazon app store.
That means also I'm able to still access my 3rd party apps like xbmx/kodi?
Yea! I was able to deregister from another account to mine and still had all my apps! Now I'm able to get more apps and still see my side loaded apps still on there + was able to use llama to get xbmc to show up on the hone screen using Classic TV! That's so cool! I wonder can you use another TV app to open xbmc in?

Even purchased apps stay, however when you change your login, the purchased app will send you a popup that you are not licensed to use the app. That's what happened with the Airplan DLNA app when I changed the login. The Sideloaded apps stay just fine, regardless of the Amazon message stating that you will loose your settings.

Deregistering - Registering

I cannot find the answer to this anywhere. So, I have set up Amazon fire TV stick, registered with my Amazon account, downloaded apps, and sideloaded apps from computer, including adding some things to kodi, and added icons. But now someone who has Amazon prime (I don't) has said I can log into their account so I can watch free prime video. My question is, if I deregister from my Amazon account on the AFT, and log into the other one, will I lose everything on the tv? I'm not worried about the apps, but the sideloading I found very complicated? I won't do it until I hear, as I'm not sure I can go through all of that again right away!!!
You shouldn't lose the apps you sideloaded. They are invisible to your Amazon account anyway.

But you will lose the apps you downloaded from Amazon via your account.
I think he was only interested in the stuff he sideloaded.
By the way, not sure if deregistering your account effectively resets your unit. If it does, you may need to reinstall/sideload your apps. But if the apk are on the unit already, that should not be hard. You just need to install a file manager from the Amazon app store like es file Explorer.
