Screen off during phone calls - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am having a problem that every time I make a phone call my screen shuts off. Its annoying because I can't get the screen back on unless the person I call answers and hangs up, or I pull my battery. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if there is a fix? It used to only happen on aosp based Roms but now it doesn't seem to matter what the base is ljc, lk8, ma5 or aosp. I am currently running the latest paranoid android from slick rick with the latest twrp; I've yet to try an ma5 ROM, but it was happening on a stock lk8 ROM.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Most likely a faulty proximity sensor. Probably need a replacement, I did.

what was the code to enter test mode? I cant remember.
I thought mine was faulty but turns out it is my defender case

Sorry I can't remember. If the guy has a screen protector, I would try removing that first. The test should show all zeroes though.

(Q) Proximity sensor not working.

I just noticed that my proximity sensor is not working. Any suggestions on how to check if it is hardware or some type of file issue? Thanks to anyone with help.

Well what did you do to your phone prior to it not working?
The only thing I can think of is I flashed Miui for a few days. No modes no nothing.

Its not working with all your saved and newly flashed roms? Or you have not tested it with nandroids. Also there are sensors files out there that you can try and push over to test it out.
*#*#3424#*#* of a physical hardware test for your phone. that test everything from your touchscreen to your sensors. A well as your speaker n earpiece. Hope this helps ya

Not sure if it'll help or not....but this can tell you if the system even sees the sensor and will test it for you too.
Elixir: http://market.android.com/details?id=bt.android.elixir
Go to the sensors tab & see if your proximity sensor is even recognized.

What I see is that the prox sensor shows up, which is good. What will determine if you have a software issue is when you are on that screen, put your thumb over the sensor. Does the reading of "far" change to "near"? The sensor is on the front of the phone just below the silver speaker grille and just to the right of "hTC". If the reading changes, then it's most likely a software issue.

Ok. So the reading does not change. I guess that means hardware fail?

Oh, Duh, I hadn't even thought of that. Good call. I try to remind myself to do the simple stuff first!!

Touch screen issues

This only happens when I'm trying to type a text message or play a game that requires the use of a touch pad (like zenonia 3 and 4). The touch screen just refuses to respond properly and is causing me to be annoyed. Anyone know how to resolve this issue so I don't have to go back to Verizon and get a replacement?
NOTE: I've already tried to pull out the battery, format the phone, and the sd card. None of them worked.

On aosp roms I had the same issue.. just randomly would not respond. My soft keys would still and anything but the keyboard.. I don't know why. What I would do is turn my screen off and back on and it would start normal again.. then I just went back to sense and no issues
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
Ok, then I think it's probably an issue with the digitizer. I would take it to Verizon and see if you can get a replacement.

I was afraid you would probably say that, but I'm probably gonna do that around march or april. Unrooting my phone is gonna be a pain and redoing the process over, but I have little choice in the matter. Thanks.

Black screen during call?

So my wife's epic is on EL30 (no FC09 yet, I've checked) and almost every time someone calls her and she answers, the screen goes black and will not turn on to be able to press anything. Also she cannot hear anything the person is saying on the phone but they can hear her. The screen comes back on when the person hangs up on the other end. Any suggestions?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
It may be a stupid question but is the phone to her ear when it won't turn on? Cuz its not supposed to... also if she is using the 100 mhz frequency try disabling that frequency and using 200 as the min.

She is actually 100% stock I haven't messed with her phone as of yet. So it is a stock issue. And yes when she pulls the phone away from her ear the screen is still black. And she can't hear anything. Also, the only way she can talk to anyone on the phone at all is on speaker phone.

If you have insurance bring it into sprint... sounds like maybe a malfunctioning proximity sensor... that doesn't really explain the sound issue though... again that also sounds hardware related (seens how your on stock rom). No insurance? Great videos on how to take this phone apart... take it apart and look for any loose ribbons or anything...

[Q] Trouble Powering On Device

Has anyone had a problem turning on the phone? It's very tricky trying to turn it on. I try turning it on but then it reboots but I eventually get it to turn on somehow?

I have had some issues if the battery actually dies. Not if I turn it off myself.
But since JB I haven't had it happen as often.
I would actually have to reboot from the bootloader to get it to turn on.

Just had this happen to mine, had to take it in for a replacement - luckily I had the BestBuy warranty and they are having one overnighted to me. Even got a loaner phone for the time being.
Really wish I knew what caused it. Would have taken it in to sprint, but their repair centers are closed on Sundays.

High pitch rattling during vibration. Normal?

Hey guys, I'm having an issue where when the phone vibrates, there is a high frequency rattle that comes with it. I am wondering if this is just the nature of the phone or theres something wrong with it. Care to share anybody?
Other than that, this phone is amazing!

That's fortunate for you. I plan on keeping mine for awhile though.
I feel it might be on all devices. When I shake the device, I can hear, I think, the auto focus shaking. The rattling might be a product of the auto focus shaking with the phone which is okay with me. I just dont want it to be loose pieces bouncing around in my phone.

No issues with anything here. Loving this phone! Best phone ever!
