Thanks OP. Does this works for you? How can you tell if it is unlocked?

Already a thread on this. Better to bump the old thread than make a new one because most of the questions have already been answered there

Yeah it worked for me. I'm with Bell (Galaxy S3 SGH-1747M), you can check by putting a micro sim into your S3 (Use a friends Sim)

I am thinking about unlocking my T-mobile GS3 so I can use it on my vacation to Greece. Will I still be able to receive software updates when they come out?
Are there any downsides to unlocking?

As long as you are running the stock software you will continue to get software updates. There are no downsides to unlocking your device - T-Mobile does this for you regularly if you call them and request an unlock code, this just gets around that completely.

I guess my phone T-mobile GS3 is not compatible with the unlocking procedure. After pressing Sha256 OFF. and when I go back, I do not get item 4 on the menu.

Did you wait the 30 seconds? If so, hit the SHA256 info option and see if it says [0] - if it does you should already be SIM unlocked (but get a SIM from a friend to test and make sure)

Yep. It would say 1 if you're locked but that's not guaranteed.
Out of curiosity are you on 4.1.2? Because you need to be on 4.1.1 (UVDLJA or UVDLJC) for this to work - I'm not sure if its tied to the radio or not so I would just backup your 4.1.2 and ODIN the stock 4.1.1 image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687

ODIN doesn't require root privileges, you have to put yourself in download mode and it flashes. If you don't have ODIN experience, I would just call T-Mobile and ask for the code, explaining you are taking a trip overseas. They will most likely give it to you. ODIN is a low-level tool and you can soft or even hard brick your phone with it if you don't know what you are doing.

i317 unlock: code vs. cable

I am trying to get my ATT Note 2 i317 unlocked. It looks like there are 2 ways to do it. Cable unlock vs. code unlock.
I have code unlocked phones before, and it works fine. Looks like the cable unlock is a hack to the same end. It is a cheaper way.
Does anyone know if the cable unlock is a good way to unlock, or if there may be consequence? Is it worth saving the $15?
Thanks.

The cable method is slightly sketchy, because you will be giving a stranger complete access to all personal information on your pc and phone. If you trust the person, or can verify their reputation, why not?
If you are with AT&T and are in good standing, you can ask for your unlock code for free. It takes two days or less to get it.
But you have the correct modem installed (J2) to perform the above listed steps. If you followed them you should be unlocked. You would have to verify it by using another carrier's Sim card.

Will this method also work on a stock Note 2 i317? I have searched for two days now for a way to unlock my Note 2 with no luck.
It fails for me too. That code just gives me an error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
It's an ATT note 2, GT-N7105. I'm running Liquid smooth 3.2 with the kernal that comes with the rom. The baseband is I317UCUBMJ. I don't get it.
The modem (baseband) has to be J2. It's the only firmware with the unlock menu.

Hi guys, you can unlock you N7105 via the Samsung hidden menu. [Also works with N7100 and some Galaxy S3 (SIII) variants - NOT ALL]
=======================================
Before doing the instructions below, please double check your phone that it is actually LOCKED by inserting a sim card from a different carrier/provider...
Quote:
Unlock your N7105:
Note: your phone must be running at least Jelly Bean 4.1 otherwise some of the menu choices are not present
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone....
To test, just insert a sim card from a different carrier/provider. If the new sim card works then your phone is now unlocked.
I have done this to my other Note 2 N7105 originally locked to Orange.....
========================================
Do this procedure AT YOUR OWN RISK
========================================
To those who were able to unlock their phone with the method above, can you please post in the thread and let us know which phone model (N7100 or N7105) you have, Country and Network/Carrier your phone was locked to...... and if I have saved you some cash, please click the Thanks button or the Donate button on the left just below my name to buy me a can/bottle of Heinekken, Quilmes, Budweiser, Fosters, Tiger, Stella Artois, or San Miguel ...
========================================
I have mentioned in my old thread that there was a pop up message that says "Conditional call forwarding active" everytime I make a phone call using another SIm card that the phone was not able to use before unlocking.
I can confirm that this was due to my Sim card. It is a very old O2 sim card that I have used for years. I have tried that Sim card on another factory unlocked phone (Galaxy i8160 bought from P4u) and it had the same message.

I could be wrong but I believe it would still be legal if the phone was bought before the law went into effect. At least that was my interpretation.

Some people believe that you still need to get permission from the carrier to unlock the phone to switch to another service even if your contract is over.
Here's a link to the docket for you legal buffs/lawyers who want to translate it for us:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2012-26308.pdf
Frankly, it's not going to stop people, and it's going to take a lot for cell phone companies to enforce such a thing. There are people out there, such as Craigslist, who buy new phones and renew their contract, but continue using their old phone and simply turn around and sell their new phone at full price.

[Q] Is there a way to unlock a N7100 for free?

Hello,
is there a way to sim unlock a N7100 for free? I have just got it with 4.1.2. I have seen the unlock method with 4.1 but to be honest i am a bit scared to downgrade it since there are so many reports about bricked devices with this version.
So far i have rooted the phone but i need to sim unlock it for a overseas trip.
TIA
edited... nevermind.
I took the rist and flashed the stock rom with 4.1.1 which i get confirmed in the "about this phone" section
I still dont have the option to unlock it
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF >
When i enter the menu i dont have "UMTS" nor "Perso SHA256 OFF"
Any idea what to do? I have heard i need to downgrade the radio now too? Could anyone tell me which one for a tmobile - austria device

Worked perfectly. Stock Bell SGS3.
Now, it wasn't stock to begin with - I was running Task650's AOKP on it. Of course the instructions didn't work on that so I flashed a stock Bell ROM onto it then it worked perfectly. Phone unlocked on the first try.
Some of the menu items weren't exactly in the same place but they had the same names so no problems finding them.
Thanks!

[Q] AT&T provided SIM unlock code not working - KNOX issue?

I am selling my SGH-i317, but am unable to SIM unlock the phone with the unlock code that AT&T provided for the IMEI.
When pop in a T-Mobile SIM, the phone asks me for an unlock code. But it refuses to accept the code with message: "Network unlock request unsuccessful".
What could be causing this?
Here's a history of my phone:
1. I have used it with a custom ROM, so the KNOX counter is tripped.
2. I was on a rooted UCUBMK6 ROM with TWRP recovery.
3. I used Triangle Away and unrooted.
4. I then used Odin to flash back to UCALJ2 with Stock Recovery (unrooted), using this tar file: KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5
5. This gave me stock recovery and stock ROM. KNOX still tripped, custom ROM counter=1
6. I then used Odin to flash the UCUCNE5-Stock-No recovery. I assumed that the stock recovery from the UCALJ2 ROM would work as a "match" (?).
7. Device now reports baseband version I317UCUCNE5, build number KOT49H.I317UCUCNE5. Kernel 3.0.31-1728680. KNOX still tripped, Custom ROM counter=1.
But the unlock is a no-go. What gives??

No..thanks for the tip. My menu doesn't show that option, probably removed in later ROM versions. But I found this YouTube video that suggests flashing back to an older modem, then following that method, then flashing back. Worth a try...will give that a go.
This helped me unlock my device....

It was probably mine. I had the same issue and I got my code from cellunlocker.net.
I was on SlimRom and it was not working. I finally went back to the official rom for one final try and it worked.
This is what I did. I'm not sure if just trying the unlock code would've worked but I did follow these steps (it's a bit weird since you don't actually change anything, maybe it forces the phone to refresh something.)
Just make sure you are on official ROM or it won't work (I tried only the code with the SlimROM and it did not work).
After unlocking I went back to SlimRom and then CM and it was always unlocked.
1. Make sure that the phone PROMPTS for the code with a NON accepted sim card and that your IMEI is correct by dialing *#06#
a. Go to the Dial pad and dial *#197328640#
b. Please click on number [1] UMTS > [1] Debugging screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] NETWORK LOCK
c. You will see 3 options
d. Please click on number [1] Perso Sha256 INFO, the screen will change slightly
e. Please hit the MENU button then when the menu pops up please carefully hit BACK to return to the previous screen
f. Next Please click on number [2] Perso Sha256 ON, the screen will change again to a one line message
g. Restart the phone on the screen by holding the power button and click RESTART
h. When the phone prompts for the unlock code simply enter the unlock code provided to you
i. Your phone is now permanently unlocked!

FYI- my situation (maybe it'll help others): I bought a T-Mobile prepaid SIM card for my spare GS3 just to see if it would work. I contacted AT&T and they provided me a SIM unlock code (took about 2 days). However, it did not work! 5 days later, and they still haven't figured it out! I decided to take matters into my own hands. After many many hours of research and trying all sorts of methods I believe whats happening its that people are trying the dial pad method and setting their Perso Sha256 to "OFF". If you've done that then unlock codes will not register correctly... So get and unlock code, then set it back to ON following the steps above. Hopefully that helps others..
