Bluetooth help - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Im trying to run my internet through my relatively new laptop. It is a DV6-7000. I have a Galaxy Nexus running CM 4.2.2 M2. My intention is to run the internet through Bluetooth but i seem to be failing. My laptop has Intel Centrino Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + high speed.
I have already paired the devices. I can see my phone through laptop and the laptop through my phone. and its "connected". From that though, it just doesn't work. My laptop only gives me 3 options when i click on it and they are send files, play mp3, and sync pim data with phone book. When i click on my laptop through my phone under profiles it only lists "Media Audio" with a check mark. Both these devices support what i want.... so im a bit lost at what is going on. In my laptop i go to lower right, and right click the bluetooth symbol and hit join Personal Area Network, it then pops up the bluetooth devices list again and that itself does nothing different but show me the 3 choices from before. S then i abandoned CM built in tether al together and download a PAN bluetooth app. It wont even connect.
At this point im thinking its my PC because plenty of people seem to be able to have a bluetooth internet connection... which makes my situation really odd. Any help would be appreciated.
btw all drivers are up to date.

PDAnet+, there's a fee associated with it but it's the only way I know how to tether via Bluetooth successfully, and I believe it doesn't require root access on your device. You'll need an application on your phone, and another application (or piece of software if you will) on your laptop. I know PDAnet+ supports USB tether and if you can, I would suggest using that. Bluetooth tether eats at your battery, not as bad as Wifi tether though.
Free Option: There is an app named Wireless Tether for root users but it requires root access, and I don't know if it has support for the laptop. I was currently checking for a post for more info on a tablet, so if I find out more I'll be sure to PM you with more information.

Turn any windows mobile into WIFI router

This application lets you use your phone as WIFI router without setting up anything in device. Let me if you guys like it.
This application has its own thread here on XDA-Developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357152. Don't really see the point of you posting the CAB here.. without all the information needed.
Well this message, in the wrong place, introduced me to your excellent application!
thank you
How do you turn off this wifirouter?? i got it working and works fine although i cant get my archos gen 5 to pick it up but i tuned it off but my computer still picks it up although it cnt connect to it
the app is connected but i am not connected to the internet on my laptop...any answers? i tried resetting a bunch of times
is it the trial version or the real thing? is there a free way of doing it.. does it work for windows 5
infrastructure mode?
is there a way to broadcast in infrastructure mode, instead of ad hoc? i would love to use a zune hd with this, but it is not able to see ad hoc networks. thanks.
???
the SSID is not showing up in my computer. All others (mine and my neighbors wireless connections) are showing up.
How to get my playstation 3 2 work with this router
Hi i am so damn frusterated right now with this. How do i get my ps3 to work with this router thing. My computer connects to it and recieves wifi. But when i try to find it with my ps3 it wont detect it. Does any one know how do i get this 2 work.
try this
1. connect ur trinity to ur laptop / pc via USB and run "internet sharing" on your trinity.
2. Set up an Ad-Hoc connection on your PC / Laptop and directly connect ur PS3 to it.
3. In network settings on your PC / Laptop click the ad-hoc connection icon and the windows mobile based device icon (Ctrl-Left click each one) right click one of them when their both selected and click on bridge connection from the drop down menu.
this method's a bit of a potch to set up but once its running it works perfectly and you only have to set it up once. it also lets you use the internet on your pc and ps3 at the same time.
I'm pretty late to this and NEW (newbie), but I wanted to make a quick post about it's use on my Imagio winmo 6.5 OS 5.2.21... no mods, no roms burned and this works perfectly. Now I can surf at work without the assistance of our helpful IT friends LOL.

Your laptop or pc picks up adhoc signals aswell as infrastructure, to be quiet honest, this app is very useless when advertised as a router, doesn't route anything if just limited to adhoc, adhoc = computer to computer connections, not a router to me at all! Its a very nice app for many other things though.. I see someone giving you instructions for 'ICS' doing all that just makes it all pointless and you may aswell just get a home router connected to house line!
This is one of my favourite apps. I've been using it for a long time now and just awesome.

Really love this app. Only problem is that it worked great the first time I launched it. Now it can't connect. It just keeps on cycling trying to connect to att gprs and finally says "the remote party has ended this connection". Any ideas?

USB to PC internet sharing via Wi-Fi

You can share a 3G network to a laptop via an HTC Touch Pro2 but, near as I can tell, you can't share a Wi-Fi connection? ie. if my laptop doesn't, itself, have a Wi-Fi connection, can I use my cellphone's Wi-Fi connectivity to connect to a Wi-Fi network?

I think that he's wanting to use the phone as a wifi adapter (i.e. wireless NIC) for his laptop, rather than using the phone as a wifi router. In other words...his laptop does't have built-in wifi at all, so he wants to use his phone to accomplish that rather than an external USB stick, card, etc. I've been curious for a while if that's even possible, but haven't come across any methods yet...

That's exactly it. Most places I go to have ethernet cables I can plug into but, from time to time, I find myself at a place that just has 802.11b/g access points. Rather than carry a PCMCIA wireless adapter around with me so that I might use it once every blue moon, I'd just assume use something I already have on me - my cellphone - as a wireless adapter.
Alternatively, if I, at a future date, got a laptop with a built in wireless adapter, it'd still be nice to be able to have two wireless adapters. ie. maybe the 802.11g network I'm connecting to uses WPA and I'm trying to connect with a Nintendo DS that only supports WEP networks. I could, in theory, use my cell phone as an adapter to the WPA network and turn my laptop into a WEP access point.
I'd say there are several use cases for being able to use a cellphone as an adapter to an 802.11g network, although I will grant that they're probably fairly niche use cases.
I am also interested in this as it would allow me to use my laptop for free internet at places like starbucks where my Tilt 2 gets to connect for free.
Internet>>> ATT Wifi >>> Tilt 2 >>>> Laptop
I too would love this functionality. If anyone knows of an app/registry hack/whatever that enables this, please post the details here.

WMWifiRouter (not free) has this functionality. Along with the standard features like cellular to WiFi and cellular to USB, WMWifiRouter also does more exotic connections like WiFi to USB. It's €15, but it's an application with a lot of functionality and the developer who created it is a very highly respected XDA member, who provides many of his other products for free.

Awesome, thanks Dave. I'd been thinking about buying it anyway in place of the (very basic) free wifi router app I found on here too, and now it sounds like a no-brainer
Just did it
I just did this very setup earlier with my HTC Tilt 2. I had the phone connected to my Wi-Fi network, and turned off my Wi-Fi on my laptop. Connected the phone to the laptop using the USB cable, and selected "Use as modem" and it was an automatic process...i'm running Windows 7 on my laptop..if that helps..it just worked.

Question - Can you tether a Wifi connection from your Phone to your PC

Hello, I have been searching around for a day and a half now to no avail. I figure I will ask here as a last attempt before I go and buy another USB wifi adapter.
I am trying to use my HTC Dash with WM6.5 to tether an available wifi connection over to my Windows 7 PC. Basically trying to use the phone as a wifi adapter. The phone has no cell data service, but can connect to the home wifi network that is here. My Windows 7 PC has no Wifi adapter (I left it behind >.<).
Here is where I am at. The HTC Dash is connected to the Wifi network, and when I try to select a Network in the ICS program, it says there is none available. I have been able to get USB selected in ICS, and the phone connected to the computer. In Windows I see a Windows Mobile Remote Adapter in the Network Connections area when I sync the device in Windows Mobile Center. But no matter what I try, ICS sharing on the phone will not let me select the Wifi connection it has.
Through my searching I have found a lot of information on tethering 2G and 3G internet through USB, and using the phone as a Wifi Hotspot. But those where no help in this.
My friend on a G1 with Andriod can tether Wifi connections to a pc, and I am wondering if Windows Mobile can do the same thing. I can flash my ROM from to 6.0 or 6.1 WM if needed.
Thanks in advance to any advice given, hopefully someone can help me out
UPDATE: Still have no luck. I found a program called ICS Control v.21, but it only works on touchscreen WM phones, not WM standard. Which means a bunch of crashing.
This program would do exactally what I need it to do... just does not support my phone. Well the search continues... looking like I may just have to go buy an USB Wifi adapter soon.
tethering w/wifi
It does work. I'm currently answering this on my 2nd desktop Vista with my S620 via my home wifi network. Waiting for a 25' ethernet connector to hardware to wifi/modem Not quite sure how it is with a wifi adapter but 2 things I do know from experience. You shouldn't need an adapter.
1st: you can't be in Sync Center while trying to tether, at least in my case on a Vista desktop. It won't let you tether while the sync is running (or your already synced).
2nd: (this worked for me) open internet sharing on your Dash/S620, pc connection-usb and be ready to hit connect the 1st couple of seconds after pluging your usb connector into your phone, and give it 10-20 seconds to actually connect. If you wait to long to hit connect, the phone will start syncing with the computer. Won't let you tether.
RE-read post, missed thar "WinMo" remote part. My bad. Don't own Win 7. Don't know what that is.
Question: Is there an active wifi where you are ? From your post it sounds like "yes"
You do not need a wifi adapter. You do need a USB cord.
I tethered with edge for a bit, but then got to thinking. Try Wifi. It worked, but be quick.
Neither one is super fast but Wifi is definitely faster than Edge. Better than not being on the net at all. Occasionally it'll cut out, just unplug usb, get to connect screen, plug in and hit connect. Should be set.
As a side note: I also tried tethering with G1. Xferd pc driver to Vista from G1 but computer says it can't find the driver. Gave up after 2 hours.
G1 tethering works great on XP though.
Hope this helps. Good Luck. Really cool when it works.
Are you using a wifi tether or just usb?
If wifi, what program/version are you using and where did you get it? I got the ICS usb tether working, but my version of wmwifirouter.cab won't even install on the dash. cheers

I'll have to break out the Dash again and let you know. It's been sitting for weeks since I repaired LCD screen and flashed my TMO Wing. Can't seem to stop playing with it.
Give me a little time and I'll get back to you.
You do have a wifi modem, correct ? I was using usb.
Right, just to be clear, my goal is to set up my Dash to receive it's edge data and transmit that out as a wifi signal that my laptop will pick up and connect to the internet. No USB connection. I'm getting an ipad eventually and this is all to avoid that stupid 3g garbage they're hawking.
I tried a program called wmwifirouter.cab but was unsuccessful. An ad-hoc wifi network was created by my phone and my laptop was connected to it but couldn't connect to the internet. And my phone kept crashing.
Any ideas? Thanks

Well, in your case, I won't be any help. What I did was run a 2nd computer off of my Dash with a Wifi Modem.
XP in another room with a wifi modem attached on Comcast, Dash on wifi and usb to Vista computer, since I didn't have a 25ft ethernet cable at the time.
Was running Vista-Dash-wifi modem-XP to comcast so I could run 2nd computer without being hard wired.
I'm familiar with wifirouter cab. It let's you use your phone like a hotspot, correct ?
In all my searches for various things for the phones, I thought I saw a different application that did the same thing. Possibly might even have it. I'll check and upload for ya if I find it. Have hundreds of cabs/zips to search. Let you know.
Possibly google it and you might find it yourself. There's a program called: WalkingHotSpot online for $24.99 if you don't mind spending. Dash isn't listed as a supported windows device but looking at the other phones listed my guess would be it should work. Try their DEMO version, see if it works.
Good Luck.......
2AM and I was just wondering......When you received your phone, you also got a usb cable with it, right ?
Why don't you just usb Dash to laptop and use "internet sharing" ????
My plan is to set this up for an iPad, which doesn't allow internet access over a USB cable, so USB tethering is out, has to be wifi.

Do you have a home computer ? If so, get yourself a Wifi Modem and set up a home network. $40-60. Although Comcast sold me mine for $20 and I get to keep it. I can get all 5 phones on the internet at the same time, not that I need to. It'll also be so much faster then running thru Edge. Besides the fact video's don't play for crap tethered running through Edge. Just a suggestion.
My opinion stands concerning Apple. Get ready to cough up more fees for internet (ATT). They're doing away with unlimited data. Did you see their prices ?
You'll never catch me with ATT.
I just put WMWifiRouter on my TMO Wing 6.5. let you know how it worked. Setup went fine, so far.
did you try downloading the actual .cab from WMWIFIROUTER.COM it's only a trial for 21 days, the "Free" versions don't work on the dash i've tried many of them.
once you install and get it set up be sure to write down the Access ID and Password it gives you so you can connect to the WiFi signal beaming from your phone from your PC. It works for me to tether a WiFi connection from my Dash to PC though I prefer the more stable Internet Sharing USB to PC and I have an Unlimited Data Plan.
WMWIFIROUTER also lets you tether a connection from your phone via bbluetooth.
I use WMWiFiRouter and its a life saver. It lets you pretty much tether any connection to any other.
Just yesterday I was at a meeting in a resturant with some clients and used it to hook my netbook to the internet and used bluetooth as the connection to the phone. Yes, Internet Sharing can do that, but it has alot more it can do too.
You can use Bluetooth, USB (it shows up as a USB modem), or even set it up as a WiFi Router.
Very cool program and it works perfectly on the Dash. I love it.
I never tried the trial version. A friend of mine showed it to me, so I just bought it. It's under $20. Well worth it if you run into that situation often.

[Request] Reverse Tethering

Hey guys,
since i'm moving often, workwise, and don't have the luxury of great DATA speeds via my Phone often, and neither the Option to pair my Wifi with local hotspots or Routers in Companys.. i'd love a solution for the play.
So far i've tried
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-793102.html - Failed
I'm currently running CM7 (FXP Edition release 41 i believe) and it does NOT come with that option, though i've read that CM7 doas come with it on some devices.
Any help appreciated!
(BTW - a PORTABLE solution would be preferable, since it's Client PCs i'm sitting on mostly.)
My answer would be Yes, on whatever is possible. I guess any rooted rom could get that feature.

I have the same issue... I'm considering connecting my netbook with an ethernet cable and using the wifi to connect to my phone.
I haven't seen anyone successfully use ICS on Windows 7 to reverse tether to an Android phone through USB. (we use Windows 7 at work)
I think you need to enable RNDIS in kernel, for example to compile it as module.
Ive used connectify while i was on vacation.
You can turn your wifi adapter into a hotspot and put a password on it so you can connect your phone to your laptop while your laptop is connected to another wireless network (get it ?)
see http://www.connectify.me/
Well the thing is, I am usually connected via cable. So wifi is not an option.

[Q] Sprint Dial Up Networking

Need some help doing normal dial up networking with my epic, (running CleanGB 1.0) and need to do some dial up networking, (like the old school kind). I just got a ZyXel MWR-222 and it doesn't seem to recognize the kernel TUN module.
So now we're back to 2007, setting logins and passwords, and phone #'s, and APNs. Can anyone help me with what those should be on the current sprint network?
Additionally, how do you connect it? Do you just plug it in and choose charging? Do you choose tethering? Do you do something else?
Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

Try that. Its free wifi tether app. No need to use a travel router. Just search for a wireless router on ur laptop and it shoud see ur phone. On the app go into settings, check encryption and change passphrase, then change channel to 10. U should be good to go. This app works. I've use it and tested it for functionality.

It's not a laptop. It's a mobile hotspot which means I need usb tethering. I have both the wireless and wired tether apps installed, however they won't work in this situation. I need to dial the APN by usb.
Try going into settings, then wireless networks and u should be able to tap on apn
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I have access to the apn settings and have mirrored them on the mobile router, (apn:Sprint, username:Sprint, no pw), as well as many other settings (including combinations of everything blank) with no luck. Tried #777 and *99# as the dialed number.
When u go into wireless networks, do u tap on "tethering"? Or when u plug it in usb, do u get the option for tethering alongside with charging and mass storage?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I have both the wired tether app (http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/downloads/list) as well as the option to tether connecting a usb device. I believe these offer the computer what appears to be a network adapter.
I don't think this device supports that. I used to use this type of tethering back with an old sanyo dumb phone. I think the computer (or in my case the wireless router, http://us.zyxel.com/products/details.aspx?PC1indexflag=PDCA200920&CategoryGroupNo=PDCA200927) is supposed to see a dial up modem.
Now obviously there are APN settings on the phone, (I'm using https://market.android.com/details?id=com.naskit.android.apnsettingsshortcut# to get to them). However, I'm not sure how the APN settings relate to what should be on the wireless router (they recommend no username, password, APN, etc). Moreso, I"m not sure if I should set the phone for charging, tether, or mass storage when the USB is connected.
I suspect that the phone simply lacks the ability to interpret generic whatever generic dialing is used. (The wireless router is designed for single-purpose usb modems as listed on it's page.) And I suspect the wireless router lacks the ability to execute what it wants (in debug mode or such) on the phone.
Ok, when u connect ur phone to ur pc and ur given those 3. Options, tap on tethering, and another screen should prompt u on ur phone. I've done this before, but its been awhile since, so ia m rusty on some of the process..(please excuse me)

I've tried it using the tether option that appears when you plug the USB in. Neither that or the wired tether app appears to work.

ok...what exactly are you trying to tether though? a portable router or a laptop?
a zyxel mwr-222 portable wireless hotspot. You can read about it here: http://us.zyxel.com/products/details.aspx?PC1indexflag=PDCA200920&CategoryGroupNo=PDCA200927
Yea..I know what that is. Its a wireless router. But are using it for a laptop? Does ur laptop not have wifi capability? That's what I'm asking. If it does, u shouldn't need that. I would have to do some further research on the dialup for the epic.

I've got two primary use cases.
1. Access point for a car. ipod, android tablet, 2 laptops, a cell phone or two. It'll also serve as hub for providing access to media stored locally.
2. Access point to stream video/audio to allow remote DJ'ing to a theater which only has sketchy wifi access.
3. As a network core I can use for establishing a network where ever I am.
While there are probably multiple other solutions, this seems to be the best product for those. Except that it doesn't seem to do the job. (The emails to Zyxel support haven't been very promising either.)

Yep other than the car you can download wifi tether beta (google it, if you can't find it I can upload the apk for you tomorrow sometime just let me know) it works great... after downloading and before launching go into the settings and set devuce profile as epic 4g and then the next setting setup method needs to be softap... now you can wirelessly tether to anything that has a wifi driver...

You seem to be very close minded about a solution to your problem. That being said, what are your concerns with using wifi tethering directly to your phone? Range? 5 device limit? Stability? The built in tethering app (renamed from Sprint Hotspot to Wireless Hotspot) in CleanGB seems very stable to me, compared to older versions of WifiTether and it works in infastructure mode which should work with all devices.
If you also need a wired solution, you could use an older cheap wireless router with a third party firmware as a wireless client bridge. I use a Linksys WRT54Gv4 with DD-WRT running for this purpose.
If you absolutely have to use your zyxel, use a DD-WRT router as a wireless client to your phone and then connect a LAN port on the DD-WRT router to the WAN port of the zyxel. This assumes you are not using the failover option of the zyxel. You can use the USB port of the zyxel to charge the phone.
Edit: Another benifit of the WRT-54G series is that they run on 12V DC so you could easily make an adapter to plug into your ciggarette lighter. I also have a WRT-54Gv6 which will work as well, just not as capable a router as the earlier versions.

I think what iKm going to do is buy a $35 rasberry pi (when they become available). It should support my epic as a tethered usb network device. I can then use the rasberry pi to route both the Epic (and the pi's wifi) as WAN connections to the zyxel's WAN ethernet port. Combined with a verizon usb modem that should give me my choice of 3 WAN connections (including a 3 WAN redundancy).
