Because I'm looking to buy an S3 and the only ones that are selling used around here are i747. I want to use it with Wind Mobile which uses the T999 because they use AWS frequencies.

I747 baseband doesn't support AWS.
If you're planning on using Wind, stick with T999/T999V

As I already stated, the i747 is the only phone that people are selling. Also, the i747 has the hardware to work for Wind Mobile technically because it uses AWS for LTE in my region. It may very well be possible to install the T999 baseband/modem to an i747 to use AWS for 3G voice communication. I've ready about it working for the S2 between the LTE and T989 versions.

I read your post. I know what you stated. I was simply reiterating what you've obviously read on a hundred other threads: they have different baseband and modems, some have different portions disabled per each carrier model. What you've also discovered is that everyone asks this question but there is no confirmed response because no one has actually tried it. Either be a pioneer and give it a shot, just keep wondering or buy a T999. Lots have been asking your same question since the phone released last June but not a single hero

It may have worked with the SII and some other models; maybe it will also work on the i747 in the future. But for the moment, work is still in progress. A complete modem switch that sticks after reboot does not work as of now for the i747.

I did not do this intentionally. But, it looks like i installed SlimBean ROM into my T999 and it went on to become a i747. The otherwise should also be possible . Please check that out.

Hello,
Has a T999 modem been successfully flashed to a i747m yet? I'm looking to switch to Wind Mobile but dont want to have to buy a different phone just for that.

Note 2 T889/T889V

Will the Canadian Note 2 (T889V) work with ROMs from T-Mobile's Note 2 T889? and is there any difference in hardware and modem?
Yes, but you will want to flash your providers rom.

are there any hardware differences? (im guessing the modem could be different, but no one would know without doing an teardown)
I'm sure they are the same. I mean, ATTi317 and T889 are the same. Only difference would be carrier I guess.
I know there was a guy selling a SGS3 T999V which was able to get dumbphone data on att/Tmo.
And if roms can be flashed between i317/n7100/T889, why not on the T889V

the thing is that it seems people with tmo variant get bootloops when they flash t889v modem
which seems rather odd, as this shouldnt happen if the hardware is the same
The T889 roms should work fine on the V, but I could see why they might not work other way around. IMO, there is no point in running V roms on my T889.
Does the T mobile version have an FM radio? (the Canadian version T889V does not have an FM reserve)

Do I need to flash any modem/radio to my S3 to work properly with TMobil?

I just got this baby unlocked, FINALLY, and was wondering if I need to flash any modem/radio to get the best possible performance.Thank you all for your awesomeness!
I don't think there's any specific modem that would work best under those circumstances, particularly as modem performance seems to be location-dependent; if you're curious, you could just cycle through all of the available modems and see what works best for you in your area.
I believe you're in the wrong forum. This is the forum for the i747 Galaxy S III.
If you're on T-mobile, you'd have the T999, which is in a separate forum over here
The differences are the T999 doesn't have an LTE transceiver and the radio uses the AWS band rather than the PCS band for HSPA.

Can S3 i747m be modified to use wind mobile?

I am asking if there is a way to make my galaxy s3 i747m useable with wind mobile. Im asking because I remeber that with the Galaxy s2x from telus and I believe rogers you could flash a t-mobile rom and be able to us it on the wind network. I am wondering if anyone has tried this? and what happened.

It sounds doable. If the phone is compatible as is, you may just need to unlock it to get it to work. You may need to try some different modems though.
There is some guy on kijiji that does it for 20 bucks. Yet I have no clue what he actually does lol

Checked Kijiji and don't see him. Please post the link if you can find it. Thx
I found this in the Note 2 forums. While I haven't tried it personally, it looks interesting and may be able to help

Simple answer Yes but it's very annoying to do.
The device itself 100% supports WIND's Network to it's fullest BUT the SGH-1747m has the bands required Specifically the 1700Mhz disabled in the NV RAM
http://anhsblog.com/how-to-enable-t-mobile-hspa-aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344627 (For my bell phone being updated past which version this guide was wrote for the code in this guide does not work you must use *#0808# )
One you follow that and reboot you will be on Wind's Network... but at least for me every time it reboots I lost access and the NV RAM resets...
What I want to know is there a ROM out there or a way to permanently rewrite the NV RAM so I never have to do this
Samsung is putting responsibility for this 'disabled feature' on the Telecom companies saying it is up to their discretion on what bands they allow. Yet bell is saying that it's up to Samsung one which bands are allowed as Bell does not do any modifications to the NV RAM. Whose telling the truth who knows.... Samsung did hint that it is possible to put permanently enable the baseband (but I would have to speak to bell) Now the funny thing is if I give Samsung the IMEI of my device (which was purchased at a Bell location) Samsung is making a statement that my SGH-i747m is NOT a registered Canadian Galaxy S3... and it MUST be an international S3.... Yet bell has it as it was originally their's and Sold by them and originally activated on their network.
I don't know why but I feel like the SGH-i747m's have some hidden backdoor deals with them has anyone tried to install Wind or T-Mobile ROMS from the T999L to the SGH-i747m and if so was it successful? or is there a Custom ROM that will work?
Just a *bump* to this, if there is any way of not having to plug into a laptop to reflash the NV to re enable functionality with wind will someone please share? I've read of some people having scripts that run in busybox or other similar type areas
Can anyone please share with me said script and walk me through the necessary means of implementing it correctly so my girlfriend stops whining at me every time her phone dies demanding I fix it, even though I've offered to show her how to click the mouse twice and do it her self.
Hi,
Is there a way yet to make the 747M fully operational with Wind Mobile? Seems like SOMEONE should be able to figure this out for us.
In your guys' opinion, if I flashed a ROM for the T-Mobile device, whats the worst that could happen? Soft brick or hard brick?
Would flashing a T999 modem be enough?
No Wind network after restarting my galaxy s3 (i747)
Hi, have you yet figured out how to permanently rewrite the NV ram on a galaxy i747 so that the phone recognizes the Wind network even after the reboot? Thanks in advance.
I haven't. I ended up getting an S5 through wind.

Thinking about an S3...

A couple of questions...
I'm thinking about a Galaxy S3, and had a few questions. Looks like there are a bunch of different variants, and I'm not sure of the differences (or if it matters). I'm using simple mobile, and am looking at both the t999 and I747 for AT&T. Any significant differences? Are they both sim unlockable? Anything else I need to be aware of?

Id suggest the T999L. (Its the only one they sell now). It is compatible on more frequencies/bands than the I747, and if you use it on T-Mobile's networks, it has the potential of being twice as fast as the I747. (I747 I believe can only work on the slower of the two LTE bands used, while the T999L can work on both).
They are both unlockable, but the T999L was patched against our unlock method prior to its release. So you either have to get the code from the carrier who sold it to you, or pay someone $5-10 online to do it for you.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the T999L is going for > $100 more than the other 2 on ebay. Not worth it to me. Also have no idea what speeds simple mobile provides. Any difference between the standard T999 and I747? Are you saying that the I747 has LTE capabilities, but the standard T999 doesn't?
That is correct. The T999L replaced the original T999 when T-Mobile rolled out LTE. None of their devices were LTE capable before, because they couldn't use it.
I will say that the I747 using LTE on T-Mobile s networks, may still not get quite as good as even the old T999, if your in an area that has hspa+42. No idea about simple mobile and what they use though.personally, I think either T999 variant will be superior to the I747 when on T-Mobile networks. There are threads where people are trying to force the I747 to use different frequencies because they want better speeds than what they are getting.
And again, there's just no way to know for sure with SM.

OK. Doing some more research--lots of info out there. Seems that the difference between the T999 and i747 is that the T999 has support in the 1700 band for HSDPA, while the i747 has LTE capability. It appears that T-Mobile is migrating away from the 1700 band in favor of LTE. This chart includes LTE coverage for a bunch of cities, including pretty much anywhere that I spend significant time.
This article indicates that SM should operate on LTE. So, from this info it looks like the i747 might actually be the better option--although I think that either one will work fast enough for my needs. Basically, most anything faster than EDGE is fine for me.

Just a bit of an update. Got the 747. Getting 9 mbps download speed, which is the same as my wife on the t mobile network (I don't know if hers is lte or not). So, success.

Flash N7100 or n7105 on i317

Can we flash a rom from the n7100 or the n7105 onto the i317? Will everything work like lte and what not? TIA
7105 will most likley work but 7100 would probably leave you with a brick. If you can help it try to stick to i317/m roms
so i317m roms will work? does anything have to be done to a n7105 rom?

Ya the m is just the Canadian carrier variant. There is nothing physically different between it and the at&t version. It depends on the rom. Some might work perfectly others will need a modem / new apn's or might not work at all. Honestley stay in this section unless you absolutely have to
Ok i just never understood what the difference between the international version and the att version of any phone was. Why cant samsung just make one phone for all the markets? Why does the international one get more developer support?
well the 7100 and 7105 are both "International" but the 5 supports LTE while the 0 is only HSPA+ iirc. And they cant make one phone for all markets because everyone uses different bands and every carrier has different needs

This^^^^^^^^^^ HERE:thumbup:
Making one phone for all! Not happening! And there's also the different modems that actually talk to the cell towers. That's another thing that makes them different. And that's what can brick your phone flashing the wrong Rom with modern included!
