What is the best TouchWiz rom for T999? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hello,
I just got my t mobile galaxy s3 and decided that I want to try a different rom with less bloat. I already rooted my device b and all I need is a good rom. I was hoping you guys can give me some suggestions that I can try. I would prefer a rom that uses touchwiz, is jelly bean 4.1.1, includes s voice, google now, and all the motion controls that are included with the galaxy s3, but without all of the samsung and tmobile bloat ware. This is not very important but it would be cool if the rom is compatible with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072775, Im not sure if that theme mod is compatible with all roms or not but just in case I guess. Anyways, thank you for your suggestions!

I really enjoy FrostyJB, it's my favorite stock-based ROM. It includes everything from 4.1.1 and more, such as wifi calling and AllShare. It's also extremely stable.

I've tried Wicked and I think Frosty is much much better (sorry Wicked devs/fans). It wasn't as stable and some things (the settings page) were uglier.

OP, opinions will vary as will how the rom runs on a phone. These threads tend to go down a wrong route pretty fast, so we always tell members to read, read, read and try them out to see which best is for you. Thank you for understanding.

On a side note, do you think you can make the theme separate? I don't think anyone has manage to port the entire theme over like you did.
Question Responses
Hi Everyone,
Just to answer a few questions, this is based off Calk's 1.1 Rom
I have tried porting over the dialer with negative results using the files you have listed, the T-Mobile SGS2 Port and the Original. It seems that there are some additional XML edits that I am not familiar with.
@OP - Calk just dropped 1.5, any plans to update your ROM as well?
This ROM is running smooth, images & colors look great!
Can't comment on battery yet, but I'm assuming it'll be fine due to the base you're using. Speaking of which, do you plan to update to the 1.5?

I really like it. I still think the biggest catch to this rom is/was the dailer. I hope you find a solution to this and it'll be super rocking.

EDIT: Nice, trying now!
EDIT: Cant send messages or make calls ?
About to try this ROM tonight! I'll let you know what I get...
Nice! I see you got the dialer in... Is it working? Also you said update coming soon, looks like it's already up? Can't wait to flash...
Any problems yet?

[THEME] Galaxy S III Dialer

Not sure if anything similar has been poster before but I made a Galaxy S III themed dialer.
It's based off stock FF18 and it should work on all FF18 ROMs that have not had extensive modifications done to contacts.apk and phone.apk
Use ES File explorer or something similar to copy and paste into the system/app folder on your device.
Reset your device.

well let me be the one to say that i gave it a try on CM9 and it didnt work when i pushed to system/apps/ i also noticed that upon rebooting after pushing these that my signal status at the top disappeared. (Gone) just wiped cache and dalvic and flashed CM9 again and everything is back to normal but seems that since the framework is different there maybe some comp issues...

Honestly. This dialer completes the sgs3 ROM. The thing that really makes it stand out is that you did both parts. The dialer and in call dialer. Most don't do that. Very nice job.
I couldn't agree more!
I think this really adds a polish to the rom myself!
Can this be ported to AOKP and AOSP? I would LOVE to see this on AOKP! The dialer on AOKP sorta sucks. No disrespect to the dev, it's a google thing I know.
The phone and contacts setup on GB is much nicer then whatca get on AOKP for example. This theme though, WOW! If AOKP had anything like this, I wouldn't have gone back to TW Gingerbread!
Would gladly donate if that gets the ball rolling!
Nice ! getting it how

[THEMED STOCK APPS][Snote][Calendar][QuickNote][v1.0][07/09/13]

Hey everyone! I've LONG hated the horrible brown colors that Samsung chose for the Snote app, QuickNote (popup note), and Calendar app. They clash miserably with everything and are really just unattractive to use, IMHO. To that end, I decided to dive into theming these mutha's! I've put mucho hours into trial and error and working the kinks out and am pretty much happy with them as they are now. That being said, I very well may still tinker with them or certainly try to fix anything that I may have missed...hence v1.0 :silly:
I've opted for a pretty basic greyscale base and threw just dabs of color in here and there, but nothing overdone, still 90+% greyscale. For what its worth, VRtheme technique is used with these so you must have the apk's already installed, as it will not install them for you.
Special Thanks:

How is this working for you guys here on AT&T? Reason I ask, is I have some users on the International Forums saying it doesn't work for them. Anyone else confirm issues with SNote FC'ing? Not that I dispute the validity of the quoted claim, but at nearly 300 downloads, between AT&T, T-Mobile users...this is the only report from this group. So either its an isolated event or others just aren't reporting the issue.

Use Retired 4G Touch as WIFI Media Device?

I've upgraded to Note 3 and my Galaxy Player 4.0 is getting very long of tooth. Recently charged my retired 4G touch back up and have been using it as a media player.
Has anybody else done this? and what rom are you running? I have Touched by S4 2.2 on the "phone" currently and figure I could go with something way more stream-lined. Interested in any advice on minimal rom with outstanding battery life while maintaining good wifi use as a media player. I do a lot of radio streaming and will be placing a pretty large music library on the sd card.
Also would be interested if there are any power button replacement apps or mods in roms (that mimic LG's knock knock feature perhaps) to extend the life of the old phone's power button. I got a refurb shortly before upgrading to the Note 3 for this issue so I'm leery of the power button failing again.
On the bright side, I'll always have a back up phone with me to activate if something happens to the Note.
Thanks for reading! and thanks for any advice.

+bilgerryan,
Saw the post on your Project X thread and I'd help beta your efforts on a meda player rom.
Don't know if the Galaxy Player rom is the best base for efforts or not though. The stock rom on the Galaxy 4 isn't really anything ground breaking. There are Jelly Bean and Kit Kat roms now for it but I haven't been successful in getting them installed.
I'd be just as happy with a stripped down minimal rom with good music controls and strong battery life. Don't know if this could be done with aggressive de-bloating, or if porting the player rom is better. Maybe a couple profiles: one for battery life and all day music playing, and another souped up for using it as a game device.
I'll keep an eye out for a new thread.

I'm just using it as a model to strip most of the phone type stuff out, I'm using CM10.1 as a base for a more streamlined, stripped down ROM with less bugs. I won't be doing much with it besides making am initial build for those of you that want it... until I retire my device. Don't expect anything spectacular because I still use my device as a phone.
Maybe "until you retire it" as a media device.
What about a stock based Gingerbread rom like Calkulin's?
Super duper fast because it's GB. And battery life can't be beat because of less overhead. He also has music skip mod integrated. Plus he has a bloatware removal tool to lean out the rom. Only issue I forsee is some play store apps may not be compatible with Gingerbread any longer but who cares right?

Rom download links are gone but I posted a fresh download link a while back in the last post BTW.
I still have quite a bit of stuff stored here. If you can't find something let me know. Cheers - TD
Edit: I have done many mods for that rom. They are posted throughout the thread.

[Q] A good custom rom with 3g Mobile Data out of the box?

I have D710 I'm using a Spring MVNO (ring plus). Is there a custom rom that has mobile 3g data working out of the box? I tried the pacman rom but apparently that doesn't support data and I'm back to stock.
If not can someone tell me a good rom (preferably lightweight, that dosen't have any weird features missing, like the camera doesn't work right or something) + modem I need to flash? I'm pretty new to flashing modems but I'll look into it, thank you. It's been a little frustrating for me looking for a good rom, but maybe I'm making it harder than it needs to be.

TouchWiz ROMs will be your most stable and have everything working out of the box. Just flash the modern that corresponds to the build (GB27=GB27 Modem). I recommend Project X v3.9.

Too true. However touch whiz is a disgrace to this phone. Viluminati is at 4.4.2, has nothing missing (that I know?) And has 3g working. It may have a "call" bug that makes sound choppy when calling someone. That's probably it though.
