Loose charger port causing flickering on tv when connected to samsung media dock - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everybody,
I recently purchased the note 2 about 3 weeks ago... about 10 days into the purchase I exchanged the device for a new one because it had an excessive number of black dots (google amoled or note 2 black dots if you arent aware of tgis issue), and some other problems. So I got my new device works great, still has black dots when you load the grey screen but its minimal. Heres the problem. There is something wrong with my charger port. I plug in the microusb wire and it falls out from time to time. I tried using tge microusb wire that came with my samsung media dock and it seemed to fit a bit more snug but still eventually fell out. Moreover, when I connect my note 2 yo my samsung media dock (which connects it to my tv via microusb), the screen flickers. The flickering on the tv confirms that something is wrong with my microusb port, maybe it flickers bc it is not connected properly. Plus my first note 2 that I purchased never flickered. Could anyone provide an explanation for the loose charging port and the flickering on my tv? I think the two are related. Also has anyone sent their device to samsung for this? If so did you receive the device in working condition with no dings amd and scratches?
Thanks everyone =)

Well it could be a bad charging port this time. Try transferring big files from windows to confirm.

Thanks I will try to transfer a large file and see if it gets interrupted in the proccess.
Anyone else have issues with their microusb port? Was the charger loose? How did you guys deal with it?
Thanks in adv

USB defect / ATT GN II.
Seems to be quite a few shipped GNOTE II / AT&T have a HUGE problem with the USB ports..
Loose USB jacks ports ...Cable not fitting in properly...EXTREMELY loose, wobbly.
Cable falls out literally with ease...I have already shorted out my device from an instable jack/cable.!
Device is being replaced already via ATT , has to be ordered via wherehouse drop shipment for as all stores surrounding me (East Coast / Sold Out)
Store reported (3) device returns for loose USB cables. if you have this problem, under no circumstances do you allow AT&T to give you USB replacement cables,
return it for a new device. Reason being is any unstable power connects are probably killing your board in the background completely unknown to most.
What might not show now will definitely show later.
LOOSE USB power cord are for sure signs of future trouble to come. Luckily my ATT store was familiar with the situation prior from me coming in and gratefully assisted.
Samsung is aware of this problem, not sure how this is going to be addressed.
Please post here if you have experienced any problems with your USB cord/phone connection.
As of this very moment, Unfortunately I am phone-less.
It was fun while it lasted??? I guess LOL!
No problems here. I have 2 Att note 2s I preordered online and 1 tmobile note 2.

I had problems from the minute I left the store after first buying my Note 2 - I notied that even though connected in my car, it didn't say charging - I figured at first maybe I needed to change a setting or something.
I got home - and while trying to root the damn thing - It kept connecting then unconneting from my computer - I couldn't transfer files or anything.
I drove back to ATT immedialy and they gave me a new phone - I have not had a problem since.
One other strange thing- When I first started using that FIRST Note 2 I bought, I when ever I tried to use the keyboard - all I got was a dialer key pad with the letters below the numbers - I looked and I had a samsung keyboard installed - but it only turned on when I wrote emails - if I tried to write a text I got the old fashioned keyboard - I nearly went mad - how can you put a keyboard like that on a phone like this?
Anyway - I didn't even mention that when I returned the phone with the USB Problems and I have not seen that old fashioned keyboard on my new phone since.
I guess it is the price I pay for being an early adopter - I always like having the latest and greatest - It is in my addictive nature - In any event, my new NOTE 2 has been flawless - knock on wood - and I couldn't be happier.
i have a gray one and the usb port is fine here.
I have the same issue & Im going to get it replaced for a White one but will cost me $35 restocking fee since I'm exchaning my grey for a white.
I have a grey one and it seems to be fine. So I could test this if I plug it in and jiggle the power cord?

I have the i317M (Rogers Canada) version and I had an issue with my micro USB port. The issue I was having was that the phone was not charging properly. Some times it would charge and other times it would not charge. I took it back to the Best Buy Mobile store I got it from and they gave me a new one. I didn't experience any of the "loose" issues some of you have experienced though. Cable fitted tightly.
I basically tried everything to prove that it was not anything I was doing - swapped cables, chargers (used the one I have for my Nexus 7), device reset etc. and the symptoms would not go away. When I took it to back to the (1 week after I got it), as soon as the guy there plugged into a charger, it would not charge and that was it. No arguments from them, they had a white one in stock (I had a gray one originally) and he offered it to me if I didn't care about the color. I got it and so far no issues yet. It charges properly now with different cables (but only using the OEM charger so far) and the cable is not loose at all.
I think that this will always be a problem for microUSB ports the tip is too long and thin. thats one thing about the iphone that was much better. the connector should be wide and short so there is nothing to bend off when strain is put on the connection.
my note 2 is working fine, for now, but I had (and am having again now) the same problem with my note 1. around a month after I got the note it wouldnt charge well, then eventually, not at all. I had gotten the phone wet and didnt think i would be able to return on warranty so I bought another note at full price and swapped the microUSB ports and returned the new one. I have been extremely careful with it since then rarley using it to charge. I bought two extra batteries and a battery charger and only used the port for data transfer. well, I put the new port in around may and that one is beginning to stop working.
I just ordered a spare battery and battery charger I recommend doing the same. its actually much more convienient anyway to not have to have your phone plugged in all the time.

I have the grey and no problems thus far with the usb port..crossing my fingers !!
My USB port is just a tad loose compared to my other devices including my original AT&T Note but it's not falling out or randomly not charging... I can hold it upside down with the stock cable without the phone falling. I use some Monoprice USB cables that fit much tighter than the stock cable anyway...
Grey note II btw.
I noticed some chargers not fitting correctly... and when I lay it down its fine... if I pick it up I hear the charging and not charging tones change. Could be the charger tho as it's not the Samsung cord. I have a blackberry cord that fits perfect and stays however.

Confirmed I can hold it from the cord and it won't come out. White one here.
I have a hard time connecting to my pc, I keep getting a hardware id error. If I keep plugging and unplugging it eventually connects. It will charge though.

*Galaxy note 2 smart dock EDD-S20JWE - screen flickering??

I posted in this in the accessories section but I realized that it is more of a troubleshooting issue. Im sorry I am kind of new here
Hey guys,I purchased this dock and at first I absolutely loved it. However, just recently when I use this dock to connect my N2 to my tv, sometimes the content on my tv screen flickers. I use qualoty hdmi cables and made sure all cables are secure and toghtly plugged in. It is important to mention that this is my 2nd N2 (I was having problems witg my first N2). This screen flickering never happend with my first N2 and I want to know of it is the accessory that is a problem or my actual smartphone that is. I should also mention that my 2nd N2 has a problem, whenever I plug my charger in it is loosely plugged in and falls out sometimes (if this is an indication of a faulty mocrousb port then perhaps the faulty microusb port is causing the flickering on my tv screen).*Does anybody have this accessory? How does yours work? Thanks for your time.

Build update and MHL connector

Since the update to the latest build (...BMF2) I have an issue with the MHL connector. I have the S3 connector (EPL-3FHUBEGSTD) and every time I'm connecting it to the Note, the Note just drops to the battery screen. It's the screen which normally occurs when there is not enough power to boot. (big battery with animated dots) A reboot doesn't work, it just drops back to that screen after the system has loaded.
I've red about the boot loop of some Nexus devices. Is this the same problem? Does anybody else have that problem too?
Edit: I have a N5100.
Works fine for me with the 11-pin Adapter from the S3. Maybe you have a hardware problem with your adapter or tablet?

Ok looks like a hardware problem with the adapter. Tried a S2 connector from a friend, no restart bug. So I have to buy a new one. Thanks!

USB 3.0 Charging port corrupt?

Hi.. i purchased a note 3 from someone .. the original 3.0 USB cord and charger base is there but when i go to charge the phone, it doesnt take the charge until i pull upon the end of the charger where the USB meets the bottom of my phone..
it looks like something may be missing there or something isn't tight.. can you take your note 3 back cover off and let me know if yours loook like mine? I was going to purchase another 3.0 cord but i dont think it's that... the regular chargers work in my phone and that's what i've been having to use

Try and tighten the 2 screws (half turn) on either side of the usb port, and see if that will help. I just had the same problem and that fixed it.

It's the cable itself, there has been known problems with it, every one I know with note 3 says there cable no longer works, I just use regular 2.0

I'm having trouble with a 2.0 cable too. Maybe the stiff, heavy, white cable damages the USB port.

Funny because I just got my note 3 2 months ago I could only use 3.0 USB for the first 2 or 3 weeks until it's started charging my phone super slow or not at all... USB 2.0 works tho...

My wife and I are have the same issue. Both phone charge using usb 2.0 cords with the oem wall plug but won't charge with the oem 3.0 cords. Started a few weeks ago, up until yesterday my cord still worked on both phone but not today
.....grrrrr
The charging cables from Samsung seem to be faulty, both of my factory cables have gone bad (mine and my wife's) but my third party cable works wonderfully.
Yep, same here. It's a really strange problem. Mine stopped charging with the oem cable maybe a month after I got it (tried tightening the screws on the port, which did feel a bit loose), but still had problems with charging. The OG cable does however mount the phone on my computer for odin / file transfers so I just got a wireless charging module and charge my phone that way. Adding further to the mystery, I just ordered this micro usb 3.0 hub: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JWM7GUY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but I haven't bothered to try it out until right before posting this (I had a pack of 10 micro usb 2 port covers and I'm down to like 2 because I frequently lose them when I take them out; wish I could find one that attaches to the phone, like the one on the S5, anyone know where one could obtain such a product??) Anyways, the hub works fine, plugged my ps3 controller and a flash drive into usb ports on the hub and it worked no problem.
So, the port seems to work for anything except charging with the OG cord (just noticed that it does actually charge if I plug a power cord (not included) into that hub. The OG cord doesn't work anymore for charging, but provides a perfectly stable connection to my PC. So, in conclusion:

Loosed charging port

Do any body here experience loosed micro USB port? I'm experiencing signs of it. I have to press the usb cable of my device down when facing up for it charge.

This happened to mine as well. I have taken it apart and tightened the micro usb socket twice now. Works for a while but the overall design is the problem. This has always been a problem with micro usb and is why proprietary sockets are far superior to micro usb despite all the blather I hear about how convenient micro usb is. You can convert proprietary ports when needed and they dont fail like this.
My other two Android devices are like two years and both use micro USB, and they still work fine. It might be the design of the Nexus 7 itself.

I had this problem with my old Samsung Captivate. It would get so bad the cable would actually fall out. Have you tried a new cable? I thought my phone was damaged but I ordered a new OEM cable because I damaged the original and it also happened to fix the charging and loose connection issues. After a while, it happened again so I just ordered a few more cables on eBay. The reason I chose OEM cables was because the Captivate had a sliding door for the USB cable that often wouldn't accommodate a standard connector. After that experience, I try to stick with OEM cables when possible, just to be safe.

Mine is different. The micro USB would perfectly fit into the port. I would feel and hear a confident strong click and the movement is minimal. However, it would not sometimes charge and have to play with the cable while at the port.
Funny... I though I was alone 'cause no one would write about it..
I got 3 cables, all with slight different behaviors but generally loose, one of them actually falls off.
Patience is highly and thoroughly tested when I want to transfer data to my nexus.
Mine is loose. I have to slip a piece of paper in with the cable to pack it. Otherwise it won't charge.
Mine is loose but that's my own doing lol but using a different usb mini seems to work

If it's covered under store warranty then sure, you can take it back. Otherwise I'd contact Asus about it.
