awesome, mate. looking forward ur good news.

@krabappel2548 - i m getting a problem... whenever I run the script the first reboot brings up cwm... but all the next reboots after pressing the volume key doesn't get the CWM to open... it continues into a normal boot... Could yo PLEASE look into it
Also, during the first reboot the led changes colours green then light blue and on pressing volume you enter CWM... but all the next reboots brings only green led (i don't know if it is important)!!
Secondly, if I again run the script it happens again, only first try CWM works after that one time it does not work... HELP
EDIT - Even apps like Quick Boot can''t get to boot in Recovery!!! :X

One more thing, I was comparing Xperia Z and ZL locked recovery and they are completely the same (Although there is a spelling mistake of "system" in recovery.tar of Xperia Z)... So does it mean that we can to some extent use Xperia Z's MOD's??
BTW, I am still not able to boot into recovery by pressing any of the volume keys no matter how many time I reboot!!! HELP Plzzz

Yeah man... Because if I try changing system files and get stuck in reboot, I have to flash everything from scratch to get it working again... You can't only use x-parts to go into cwm... the volume key should also work... Thanks

[Q] How to boot into recovery on lt18i

hi, guys. im sorry if im posting in the wrong thread but i need help w/ booting into recovery for my arc s.
ive downloaded and installed CWM but whenever i tap "reboot into recovery", it simply reboots the device and doesnt give the command prompt-esque sceen.
help needed real badly. thanks in advance.
Press back buton a few times as it's booting
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
hm... tried that but it just boots the phone normally.
tried just pressing and holding "BACK" and consecutively pressing "BACK" to no avail.
Have you installed cwm from market then installed into phone.
What I mean is cwm has a 2 stage install 1 install app
2 open app and then click install on to phone.
The shut down menu will not show reboot option. you have to shut down then restart manually when you see sony logo press/spam the back button constantly until cwn loads, if this not work try using down volume button again spam/ pressing continually
Sent from my LT18i using XDA App
make sure that CWM is installed correctly
On xperia Arc S you need to press a few times the VolumeUp and VolumeDown buttons as soon as you see the FreeXperia logo. You'll notice that the led becomes violet when you're entering into recovery mode.
got it working, guys.
downloaded Xperia CWM Auto-Installer from market and worked like a charm.
thanks for all the help.

works great
First you'll need a rooted and CWM supported kernel. Shut down the device. Press the power button and wait. When the boot logo came wait for a little vibration. Then press the Back or Volume Down button several times. There you go. You're in Clock Work Mode Recovery.

HI,
Thank you..
I'm sorry I'm still new about these things
I just can't flash it because my back-up is .img file..
And I don't know how to flash .img files..
Thank you again..
I've tried downgrading the kernel into .431 firmware (which is compatible to the theme that I tried)
but still, boot looping..

What I did is that..
1. tried to flash a theme for .431 firmware
2. boot it using CWM v5
3. then, after rebooting the device, boot loop happens
I can't enter CWM on the sony logo (or I am pressing the wrong button)
now I can't flash back to my nandroid back up.. :'(

Hi thank you..
I just did the flashing
But still, boot loops ..
I really don't know the problem :'(
Here is what I did to install that theme..
● Copy the .zip to your sdcard
● Boot into CMW
● MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP
● Did you make a nandroid backup?
● If not, go away from this thread immediately!
● Flash the .zip
● Clear Dalvik Cache
● Reboot
● For wallpaper, Xperia S lockscreen, deodex/supercharge/LED fix check post #3.
● Enjoy!!!
i really don't know if that clearing that Dalvik Cache caused the problem..
I really don't know
pls help ..
Did you even read the previous posts? These say everything how to fix your phone.
And if you got bootloop, doing it the same way will not make it any better, it will just result the same - bootloop!

Hi (my first post at xda!),
I once had a nasty BootLoop like you have. actually, even worse - at some stage, the phone didn't start at all - AND usb wasn't responding... worst case scenario lol.
Be advised, this will bring you to clean stock unrooted phone.
- What you need to do, is restore the original rom+kernel (stock), using SEUS ("Sony Ericsson Update Service") software (download it).
- You'll need to connect the phone with a special recovery mode enabled, by plugging the usb cable to it while holding The Other Button (Back button) that gives A GREEN led light (this is NOT Fastboot mode that shows BLUE led light).
- After the phone is connected in that manner, simply follow the instructions in SEUS and let it download and flash the original software.
From here, you'll have a factory-new unrooted stock rom+stock kernel device, but you'll probably manage with re-flashing and restoring your Nandroid afterwards.
- Use this as a last resort, as it's what they call "The long way".
Get back to us with the results.
Mike.

It's not a special recovery mode it's the standard flash mode, but this is basically what you've been advised to do on the last page.

suggestions please .

i'm new to this unit Xperia S , can you guys suggest me what is the best kernel, recovery, and custom rom to installed? thanks.
Those questions are subjective. I think there is a rule against this kind of question.
But, just so you know, recovery is integrated with kernel (no separated recovery partition). That means you have the recovery that the kernel has bundled.

alright thanks sir, sorry for the quest. but i have one more question about my xperia s. what is the best ics version for xperia s? 6.1.A.2.50 , 6.1.A.2.45 or 6.1.A.0.452?
thanks.
6.1.A.2.55. The latest. About my first answer, I didn't wanted to be rude, but it is a fact. It's subjective. What is good for some its bad for others. You gotta test them all.

Unlock the bootloader. If you do that, you will already have fastboot set up. Inside the zip of the kernel, there should be a file with extension .img or .elf, I'm not sure which one, but will be any of those.
Extract that file to the fastboot folder. Make your phone enter fastboot mode (hold volume up while connecting the cable), then on cmd type:
fastboot flash boot FILE-NAME-WITH-EXTENSION-HERE (for example boot.img)
Wait for the process (won't take more then 5 seconds) then type.
fastboot reboot
The phone will reboot.
To enter recovery: Both the LED and Transparent Bar will light up (actually, depends if the dev implemented the bar to light up, but you got it). When that happens, press the volume button a few times so you can enter recovery.
If you don't want to enter recovery, just don't press anything and wait for boot. Emily the kernel.

you mean sir press the power first and then release it when led light or the bar lights up and press the volume down or up??

Press and hold power to turn it on. During the kernel logo, the lights will turn up. To enter recovery, press volume up while the lights are on 3 times or so. It will enter recovery.

If you're unlocking the bootloader then flash a Jellybean rom
Jellybeer is a very nice clean simple Jellybean rom. Very fast and smooth. Once the rom is flashed, Flash the latest nova kernel as it fixes volume issues

Xperia arc s not booting after flashing custom rom.have i bricked it?

I had rooted and installed HD 3.0.2 custom ROM on my son's Sony xperia arc s successfully and it was working well but the adventurist mind set to work and I wanted to try the jelly droid custom ROM.
I went to recovery mode via x tools and did the factory reset and formatting system.
Then I clicked install zip from SD card.it showed that update installed successfully then after around 15 minutes and no further instruction,I rebooted the phone.seems like I missed some step or something which I am not aware of.
now it only shows the Sony screen.I attempted going to the recovery mode pressing the combo keys volume down and power after taking out the battery but nothing transpired.
have I bricked my phone?
Is there any way I could bring it back to life?
would be obliged if anyone could recommend some steps to try and restart the phone.
thanking in anticipation

Did you flash the correct kernel for your phone? Ultimate HD uses stock kernel while the Jelly Droid should be using a custom kernel. You need to have bootloader unlocked to use a custom kernel. CWM does not work after flashing the update package as X tools installs CWM into /system which you just formatted. To be able to use CWM after changing ROM, use a stock or custom kernel that has CWM pre installed on it.

I am a complete novice and would request your good self to kindly suggest remedial measures to go back to the stock ROM or HD 3.0.2.The boot loader I think was unlocked before attempting to root the phone.the phone only shows SONY written on it.no turning off even.having to pull the battery to put of the screen.

To recover your phone, use Flashtool and install stock firmware to your phone with a correct FTF file. You can find the FTF file from the forum, just search.
OR if you have locked bootloader, then you can also use PC Companion to repair your phone.
Sent from LT18i with custom firmware by myself.
Since you have bootloader unlocked, I recommend that you repair your phone using flashtool, since it's a hassle to relock bootloader to use Sony Update Service. After restoring your phone, flash a stock kernel with CWM on it so you can still use CWM after changing ROM. If you want to go back to UHD, Jader recommends LuPuS kernel to use with his ROM.

First of all, calm down , i rarely see arc-s really bricked and not recoverables so ,in this case, the best metod is a thinking mind. Answer my questions.
1° Have you checked your bootloader if it's locked/unlocked or if there is possibility to unlock it ? There are a plenty of guides about it.
2° Please describe how you have installed the rom.
If you have the possibility to reach the recovery , you have to fully format the phone. Factory reset, format system cache and dalvik. Only after that, try to re-flash the rom.

Flash mode -> connect phone to PC while holding down back button.
Fastboot mode -> connect phone to PC while holding down menu button.

PC Companion's repair option should work as well, try that one. If you wish to stick to Flashtool, then first make sure you got drivers installed.

Power on, and don't press anything until you see led, then press volume down. You probably only need to press it once, but a couple of times won't hurt.

You can flash a new recovery with fastboot or Rashr. Otherwise, you can delete the recovery file you don't want. I'm guessing you're using NUT's dual recovery...? Have you tried configuring through NDR utils app?

yes . i'm using Nut's dual recovery for my z1C
normally . i can boot into my favorite recovery using ndr tools in my android
but , when android crashes i press volume buttons after seeing SONY logo to go to recovery
but it sometimes goes to CWM instead of TWRP , which i dont want .
Stock ROM? Unlocked BL? There are a few options if you're not happy with your recovery. You can try a different kernel, flash a different recovery IMG, or look through /system (maybe /system/bin)and find the CWM file and just delete it. Be careful and always keep a backup.
