(Above is basically a clean CM10 rom with dual pane in Settings)
Recently discovered after finding and using azoller's CM10.1 Fusion ROM for a day or two.
This method involves using Xposed Framework and basically requires installing 2 apks, then changing some settings for it to take effect.
NOTE: None of this will affect your notifications bar or navbar, it just changes resolutions/layouts, except you can make specific apps fullscreen if you want.
1. Install this apk (from the main thread), click Install/Update, and reboot.
2. Install this apk (a module/add on for dpi/resolution change) and reboot a second time.
3. Go into Xposed App Settings which is the 2nd app installed, and any app that has Screen (dp,px) set to 800x1200 will act as if it were a tablet app. This includes Settings, YouTube, anything that looks different with a tablet.
If any graphics are too big/small, you can change the DPI, but 160-190 is pretty good most of the time. It's pretty simple and mostly cool, and should work on just about any rom.
The attached screenshots show my settings for the Android Settings to have a dual pane and some examples of YouTube looking more expanded than usual.
Again, none of this is my doing, I just figured it out recently and thought a simple step by step would be nice for people who haven't tried it yet and/or aren't running stuff like AOKP and ParanoidAndroid (built in tablet UI roms).

thanks for your tutorial, it works.but we can't get a full working Tablet UI here. the status bar and notification are still on top even though I set the "Launcher" screen to 1280x800. also we need to set the app one by one in order to enable the tablet layout, there is no way to adjust the whole apps by a single setting.

Sorry, maybe I should've had a step 0 where it says to read the thread.

It says that right above the instructions, none of my screenshots show a tablet UI, and I specifically talked about resolution and layout instead of the notification/navbar UI.

Hmmmm. Is the tablet UI just like it is on PA?

The screenshots show what it does, and it doesn't change the notifications/navbar. Just like I told the other guy, it's pointed out in the NOTE above the instructions, and my OP isn't even that long to begin with...
This is for people like me who like dual-pane mode and tablet-ized apps, but who also don't like the whole tablet UI on the bottom. It's basically a tablet layout with phablet notifications/navbar, like how ParanoidAndroid can do by itself in Phablet mode, but it works across most roms and that's the benefit really.

You're right. Really sorry, I missed to read that part.
BTW, when I used PA and I choose phone mode, I was able to make the layout of opera mini the same as it appears on my phone (the navigation buttons located in the bottom). Here, I tried to change the setting of opera mini, but the app layout didn't change at all. Is it possible to simulate the phone mode (layout) for opera mini using those software? I need this because it's more convenient to have the buttons on the bottom when we're in portrait mode.

First thanks to the op for pointing me in the right direction. With this app, i was finally able to get opera mini phone layout (navigation bar on the button) on nexus 7 running CM10.1
Under settings for opera mini, i just increased the dpi to 600 and resolution to 800x1280 and voila ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Might be a stupid question but will this affect OTA's/manual install of updates??
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

So, uh, will this work with stock ROM? (not indexed/deodexed, etc.)

Thanks for sharing the specific resolution settings. It would be nice to keep DPI for large text, and just have dual pane fit like a tablet app

You can change the text size with xposed app settings. Its next to dpi

The xposed framework has been a lifesaver especially since paranoid android has been a buggy mess since it went vanilla aosp instead of cm based. AOKP plus xposed app settings is rock solid and stable.

Hubs UI Layout

Hi all,
Here is my Nexus 7 'Hubs UI Layout'
Idea for this has been taken from the iconia A500 thread (can also find tuts and vids on how to do this) here
Basically each screen has a theme, each screen has a folder of wallpapers it cycles through and at the bottom are buttons that take you to the screen with that name.
Screenshots and vids below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

}
And heres an example of it on my mobile (lantern corps setup)
Not too shabby.

That looks really nice; you've done a really great job with the layout on all the screens.
Looks really nice. Can this be setup in portrait mode or does it have to be landscape?

Yeah you can do it in portrait, just move everything around they way you like
what app was used to achieve the search bar?
thanks
This is GORGEOUS.
Thanks for posting. I love the idea, and the... well everything. LOL. :good:
IV used hub layouts on many devices, it's very productive if set up properly. There's plenty of YouTube videos, took me like 2 hours to do on my transformer can't wait to do it on my n7 when it arrives. I was hoping to be the first but j guess u beat me to it. It's basically a bunch of shortcuts and widgets placed in an xbmc organized fashion.
I've used hubs from my a500 days. I don't care for it anymore but I do still use multi picture live wallpaper, it does excellent wallpaper picture resizing over the stock method.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
It takes a lot of work to do these kind of setups lol I remember doing something like this through lp+ with moving wallpapers.. etc.
anyway, here's my nexus 7 thing of it. I like widgets @[email protected] so a lot of widgets on mine!
Portrait Mode, NO Tablet UI?
Can this be done in Portrait mode with ADW EX, but NOT using the Tablet UI (160dpi)?
I don't like the tablet UI much...really want my keys centered.
Having a hard time making the status bar disappear with in in normal mode (213dpi), but the status bar goes away just fine in tablet ui (160dpi).

My setup works with it in portrait. I personally don't like much of landscape either but currently the wallpapers I chose look really nice in landscape lol :victory: I'll upload a video in a sec.
You can do this with ADW EX, Nova, Apex etc. so that all comes down to what you would like. Your status bar can be disabled depending on your launcher options I believe. I admit it's a little bit of a hassle on Apex considering I don't see an actual option to say "Keep launcher at fullscreen" or "Disable statusbar". Either way, whenever you launch an app that isn't fullscreen anyway it will make the status bar pop up..

I guess what I am looking for is a direct jump to screen without seeing any transition whatsoever. I can't figure a way to do this for anything. Any ideas or luck with this? In your YouTube video you could still see the transitions between screens... These still show even when transition effect is set to none.

Using ADWLAUNCHER I still have that status bar showing at the top of my tablet when I am in portrait mode. When I try to disable this, it removes the notifications, but does not remove the bar up top.
Any idea on how to remove that on portrait mode without switching to tablet ui?

Closest thing I know is on Apex Settings -> Homescreen Settings ->Minimum Scrolling Time -> 1 (setting this to 0 actually puts an animation). Transitions when pressing the screen buttons should be pretty instant
You might also want to turn off wallpaper scrolling if that's the case. Best I can come up with. sorry
To me, i really love this. Its kind of like a windows theme. Mainly for media users of the device. Sadly, i cant work with it, saying im a power user running apps, games blah blah. Nice work thougb

[MOD] Stock JB Launcher (various mods)

I couldn't find any stock launcher mods that were simply a single homescreen and/or rotation enabled. After poking around enough I've managed to create them!
Note: These are not flashable zips. I recommend pushing them through ADB.
Single Screen
Single Screen mods require you to disable "Automatically add widget." in market settings. Not doing so will cause force closes when a new app is downloaded.

does stock w/rotation enabled still have the persistent search bar?
if so, speaking for myself, i wouldn't mind having stock w/rotation, no persistent search bar (both in portrait and landscape).
for what it's worth.
thanks!

The Single Screen mods current have a bug where they crash when an app is installed and a widget is automatically placed on the homescreen by the market. Disable this though the market while I attempt to resolve the issue...

You're welcome! I just wish I could fix the reason for the force close on single screen launchers. There is a good work-around but I hate work-arounds.
My only thought was to delete every reference to the screen IDs beyond the one I left in then delete the public.xml and let it rebuild itself, but that caused a force close on boot.
Can i install the last APK (i assume is i9250 JB Stock Launcher) to a Galaxy S3 i9300 with 4.1.1 ?
I don't believe so but you can give it a try. If I am thinking correctly the application was built using the framework of the Galaxy Nexus.

Only thing I'd want added was swipe down on homescreen to pull down status bar - is that possible? It's the only reason I use a custom launcher, would just stick with stock otherwise

Per App DPI settings without Paranoid Android

Hey, guys! Firefox Beta is currently my browser of choice, but due to the DPI settings of our beloved Nexus 7, the app uses the Phone UI. Just look at it!
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, let's take a look at it's layout when it sees a proper tablet DPI.
Fabulous! Now let's figure out how we can achieve this...
First of all, we need to install a framework called Xposed. This handy app can modify your ROM without touching an APK or having to flash anything. If your interested, read more about it in its OP. Speaking of the OP, you'll be downloading the APK at the bottom under attachments
You'll find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Open the app and touch the 'Install/Update' button. It should install successfully and request that you reboot your device. Do so now.
Now, we need to grab the app that will allow us to change the DPI settings per app. The app will also allow you to deny permissions to apps, but that's not why we are here.
You'll find the app in the attachment section of the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081
Install it and then open the previously installed Xposed Installer. Switch over to the Modules tab and checkmark the Xposed App Settings. Reboot.
Almost done!
After you've rebooted, open up the Xposed App Settings app. Scroll down to the app you would like to modify. In this case, we'll be changing Firefox Beta to tablet mode. Select Firefox Beta when you find it and enable it. Once enabled, you'll be greeted with the following screen:
Yours won't look exactly like that, but you'll need to make yours look like that also. Your DPI can be anything between 160 and 177. Once you've applied those, touch the wrench icon on the top right and force stop the app. go back to the app and touch the icon to the left of the |> icon. It'll ask you if you want to kill the application, do it again for good measure.
Success! Touch the |> icon to start the app and it should be laid out in all its tablet glory!
Bonus: You can also get the tablet, dual pane version of the Settings app by setting the resolution to 1000x1600 in Xposed App Settings.
In closing, take a look at some before and after pictures for some apps that don't have tablet lay outs by default.

As you can see, most of the text is squeezed together in an undesirable fashion. I switched it back. I also believe Pulse has a tablet layout, but I'm not sure.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm no developer, so I can't be of much help with issues like that. Your best betis to ask the developer of xposed in his thread, or trying again.

! WARNING !
This is Alpha version meaning app is in active development! It may contains lots of bugs and may damage your device! Use on your own risk! Always backup before using!
I'm proud to present you Tabletizer - one-click solution (someday in the future, more clicks today) to turn your phablet Nexus 7 in to a real tablet. It should work on any AOSP 4.2 based ROMs and original ROMs from Google. Your ROM should be deodexed and you should have TWRP/CWM installed. Root is not required
Installation:
Have your N7 charged to at least 30% - the process eats a lot of battery;
Reboot to recovery;
BACKUP!
Reboot to OS;
Install APK;
Run Tabletizer and tap "Run Tabletizer" button (WARNING! Do not rotate device until process is finished!);
Wait until !FINISH! message is shown or any error message appear;
If you see error - send me a screenshot;
If everything is OK - reboot to recovery;
Install update.zip generated in /sdcard/data/tabletizer/temp;
Reboot;
...
PROFIT!
Uninstall:
Reboot to recovery;
Restore backup;
Reboot to OS.

AW: [APP] Tabletizer Alpha 4 (2013.03.02)
Works without problems on cm 10.1 latest nightly.
Just thought I should mention. Running the apk in landscape mode with full battery charge (not plugged into wall) caused the screen to timeout and the text of the process didn't scroll down. So now I can't see when the !FINISH text pops up. Figured I'd give it at least 20 minutes to be on the safe side.
How long does tabletizer usually take to finish the process?
Thanks for your work!
You are the man aux can't believe you got it working!! Gonna try it on aokp
My n7 took about 7-10 minutes to complete. I made sure to not let mine go to sleep (had the time out issue on his alpha3 version so knew better). Might want to add to the directions just to disable rotation and lengthen screen timeout.
Only oddity is it still goes back to default wallpaper (funky green grass) but that really affect nothing as you can then set the wallpaper as you desire after boot.
Excellent work, you da man!
On a side note, many status bar and notification drawer options in cm10.1 don't work, and tabletUI uses a different quick settings model so those don't work either. Please note, this is NOT a criticism of this mod or thought of as a bug. It is just an effect of enabling tabUI. To me I happily accept this trade off.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
It worked and I got a tablet UI (I'm running cm10.1 nightly). When I open notifications and press the button for "clear all", it clears them all. If I press that spot again after the notifications are clear, I get "Unfortunately System UI as stopped".
Worked great for me. No fc's yet. Looks nice, especially with apex launcher in tablet mode.
Edit: It seems to shave a bit off the sides of app icons in both home screen and app drawer.

Ported Launchers that works on N7 2013

I know some of you are against changing the stock/vanilla android look, but for those who have tried any launchers that have been ported from other devices like Samsung, LG, Sony...
Wich launcher (share links if possible) have worked on your device?
Share your screenshots with the launcher in use and necessary steps to look alike.
The only decent launcher that i've been able to find working is the LG G2 launcher

It looks ok, but the icons are way too small and the weather widget size (4x2) is smaller than home grid size (5x5) so it does not center.

The TouchWiz launcher from the S4 also works. The launcher will be very small, but it can be enlarged using X posed Framework + App settings.

I also installed touchwiz from the s4 but it looks tiny and i dont know how to fix it, i have exposed module and the app settings but still dont know how to fix it. I hope you can help me
Suggestion, posting screenshots with the launcher in use and necessary steps to look alike.
I used XPeria launcher but kinda lagged on transitions. Also tried MIUI launcher but crashes on 4.4.2. Other than that it's smooth, fluid and looks good

Absolutely! Here's what I did. These steps are for those who don't know about Xposed Framework as well.
1. Make sure that Xposed is installed (the framework, not just the apk), download App settings module from the Downloads section within the app. Go back to the modules section, and activate the checkbox for App Settings.
2. Reboot. (It is recommended that you reboot for the framework to be installed for the changes to take effect. While this is true, I reboot after my modules are downloaded/activated. If not, they would require a second reboot as well.)
3. Navigate to "TouchWiz home" in App Settings. Switch it from Off to On, and change the DPI value to a resolution that you find suitable, and hit save. I use 460 for this launcher, and various values for different apps that I find is a waste of screen real estate (like 280 for the Play Store, and most of the Google Apps).

Got it working now, i didn't know which dpi setting to use, although the homescreen is 4x4, i wish it was 5x5 at least. Thanks for the help!

Not that I actually want it...but this is Android. I have it just because I can.
P.S.: Can't add any widgets to it. Not sure why the permissions are wrong, but I didn't care to figure it out. I don't use it.
Gonna give the lg launcher a whirl... Is it functionably?
Where is the touchwiz launcher for the nexus 7 2013? I've searched and searched but can't seem to find it.

Don't know why you would want to do such a thing tho... Touchwiz is hideous IMO, but to each his own
