Confirmed Working + Tutorial: USB OTG on Galaxy W - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Galaxy W Users is having a major improvement! (as i feel), because Arco68 on his "[ROM][JB][JZO54K] CyanogenMod 10 ALPHA (Build 7)" Mod Thread finally enable USB OTG Support on our beloved phone, the Samsung Galaxy W
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990795
Basically, what does USB OTG do is to make our phone able to connect to external USB devices such as Flashdisk, Card Reader, Keyboard, Mouse, ETC. Myself has tried it with mouse, keyboard and card reader all in single usb HUB and it's works perfectly!
(to make USB Storage such as card reader or flashdisk to be recognized while connecting other devices such as mouse and keyboard, the card reader should be plugged after everything else. This way you can use keyboard and mouse, while working with your flashdisk/hdd/card reader all together)
Using external power source, as our phone doesn't supply power to the Micro USB Port

Mouse confirmed working
Usb Hub Setup
Card Reader Confirmed Working
Usb OTG Converter that i use
Simple usb hub mod for power injection
Very simple schematic
If you have spare time, the setup can even made portable by replacing the usb power adapter with
5V DC Regulator + some battery (9V battery will work i think, the regulator will convert 9V to 5V as required)

Hmmm, if a usb card reader works, i think usb stick should work because they both works quite the same way? and if a mouse works, also i think keyboard should works too. maybe you can plug usb Hub, then plug both mouse and keyboard at the same time and si if it works

I can plug keyboard and mouse to my wonder with cm10 alpha7.
If you said how can I plug flash sticks, card readers and externals, read this:
I hooked an external powered usb hub and plugged usb stick. it works
2tb external drive works with paragon ntfs mounter after some config...
what I did:
-mounted the ext.drive
-opened es file explorer, created "directory_name" directory
-launched the paragon app
-dismounted and tapped "mount..." button
- tapped "choose mount point manually..." button
-selected /storage/directory_name
-tapped select button
-minimized the app with home button
if you like this, please use thanks button. sorry for my bad english

Confirmed working but still on a hunt for a portable DC power source

You must make usb otg by yourself, just follow the tutorial above. :fingers-crossed:
If u buy from any types of usb otg nowm I think it doesn't support for galaxy wonder. But except if there is someone/factory has make it and sell it
CMIIW

Hi Batur, you can do otg yourself.
Aftermarket otg's will not work because there is no power on it.(our phone needs ext power for usb devices)
You must buy an usb hub and change it's usb cord to micro usb and hub must have to got an external power jack.
If you have questions about it, you can send private message to me.
You can write your p.m. in Turkish or English.
Sorry about my bad English.

Good job bro!

got a usb otg cable today to experiment
i own a nice 7-port external power hub D-Link DUB-H7
tried to connect it to my phone, it even doesn't recognize it as a host)
another try was using an external hard drive with two usb cables - one to phone, other to power 'dumb' usb port
result - phone talks 'bout clear or damaged usb storage, possibly 'cause my drive has two partitions..
waiting for cheap chinese usb hub to mod it for power supply and continue research)

Anyone tested on joystick? would be great while playing Dead Trigger

got a cheap usb hub today, thinking to mod it for external power supply
your scheme is to connect +5v directly to 5v contact from phone (it's not giving power) and gnd to phone's gnd respectfully
won't it damage the phone? maybe use some kind of diodes?
and is phone being charged while such modded hub is connected?

I've modded a usb hub to add external power supply....that's what I've done: I' ve put a second cable to power the hub and cut the VCC wire inside the other cable of the hub to avoid current return... to power it I use a 5V CC 1A power supply....I've tried this on my notebook and it works perfectly..but when I connect it on my galaxy w there is no device connected....but as you can see on the picture led light of my usb flash drive turns on, so it should work, but it isn't.....what is wrong??? any suggestions??? help please....I repeat: on my pc all works perfectly!!!!

So i have this usb hub, do I just take another usb cable and solder them in onto the board?

Connecting USB Flash Drive to Touch

Is it possible to connect a USB Flash Drive to Touch. I want to use USB cable extender to connect the Flash Drive. Does WM6 recognize the USB Flash Drives or not?
it's a little more in depth than a cable, as yet, I have not seen anyone who has figured it out. We are not sure if the drivers for host capability exist, and you will need a speacial cable with all kinds of pulldown resistors and whatnot in order for the device to get power.
no it's the hardware usbchip which dont support it
no work around
Kinda makes me wonder why no one has come up with a small battery powered bluetooth hard drive.. That would be pretty sweet..
Seems like if it was battery powered... it would be dead in five minutes lol

I spoke to Seagate apparently they will only be selling this through the OEM channel. not directly to consumers. So I don't who would carry this and if we can buy it.
But they go upto 60GB.
Anyone knows where we can get it?

a harddrive no but a flash drive should be perfectly within the usb spec this phone is built to it would just be a matter of proper drivers which probably are out their considering their are printer drivers which are much more compicated and no resistors would be required usb is a serial bidirectional interface not like cat5 their is no hardware crossover or anything required

I assume from your explanation that you are trying to use this when you are home? I would just use the Bluetooth FTP or Bluetooth browser and access the PC that way instead of using airtime.
If you want to use it while you are out then there is a device called Slingbox try googling that.
Good luck.

The MSM 7500 is the chip found in the Vogue...check out connectivity...it lists the port as USB OTG.... short for USB on the Go....which means it has limited hosting capabilities.
Even though Windows does support USB OTG Mass Storage, the problem is that the Vogue is not transmitting enough power via the USB port, which according to USB OTG regulations is OK. Which means you have to use specific selfpowered USB devices (most likely labeled as USB OTG compatible), or provide the power by yourself (splicing cable and adding correct AC adapter...).
HTC DOck
how 'bout this one:
http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=145164
kinda big, and I think but here's the info:
Description
Keep the HTC Advantage at hand on a desk and at an ideal viewing angle. The docking station extends the peripheral connectivty of the Advantage and includes:
- A/V interface: VGA (15pin) port, Video out port, S-Video (4 pin) port, 3.5mm audio jack
- Charging & syncing interface: miniUSB port for power charging and synchronization, 2 x USB standard A female port (USB Host), 2nd battery charging slot
- LEDs indicators – 2nd battery, power & sync
Technical Details
(none available)
I'm experimenting with a powered USB Hub... who knows...
I want to buy an HTC Diamond and if it's possible I would use the mini usb port in it like a "host"...so (from the bottom of my lack of knowledge) I'll try to help this "project"...
If I'm not wrong USB On-The-Go is just a "chipset protocol", a feature of its and no more...the only two hdw thinks that a device must have to use it is
1) an AB type port usb (or mini usb as most pdas)
2) a circuit scheme that is able to send 5v to the pin of the port used during the "host mode"
Moreover, on the sfw side, it's necessary to have drivers that recognize and organize the host function of the port...
It's all right?
If I centered the situation I think that the only problem is the lack of 5v power to send to the pin, that's right?
In this case...why don't look (and copy) this?
Then, about the drivers matter, i think is sufficient a look to the others (a few I know) WM devices that already have a native usb host functionality...
I'm sorry if I said a lot of stupid thinks but I said before I just tried to gave an help.
PS: sorry for my english too and (because of this is my first message) Hi all!!!

www.orb.com will do what you want...you don't need a tv tuner to make use of its other capabilities.
Ok, as a lot of you maybe still know NEO1973 will have a USB host functionallity...
Infact it has a USB otg port and it will selled with this option already included.
About that I've found this page: a complete explaination to activate the host function of the port...it could be of any help?
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo1973_USB_host
2 quick points:
@dave68 - all of the pieces needed to make a USB flash drive work with the Toshiba E804 PPC (WM2003) already exist - including drivers. All I had to do to make that device work with USB Flash drive and USB HDD was use a powered hub with the WM2003 drivers installed.
@cdred - As already mentioned www.orb.com is one way to go. You will need a PC running the Orb software at home and a way to get to it (i.e. dyndns.org).
The Slingbox is another way to achieve this, or IMHO, the Buffalo LinkStation is a good choice.

Tested a thumb drive, it connected instantly and is behaving just like the SD card. Contents show up in the folder 'USB storage'.
Keyboard connected but device freezed. Had to restart the device. Will try some other keyboard. This one was a HP.
Mouse scroll wheel works too. Can scroll the page just like PC. Links or options are highlighted as the page is scrolled.
Here is a screenshot of the mouse pointer, i had keyboard connected too but i don't know how to show it on a screenshot.
I plugged in my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse (thus connecting them simultaneously). Really happy!
I am now wondering if i can use the phone as a CPU and use my LED as a display. The input devices being connected wirelessly, it sounds do-able. Only question is how to connect the HDMI cable when the only slot is already serving input devices

I am just working on this setup, For that one need to use Bluetooth mouse and keyboard AND Samsung MHL HDMI cable.
I already had a Logitech Bluetooth mouse, and yesterday i bought Bluetooth mini keyboard which is HID and works very well with Note. Its available globally in <USD 20$.
My MHL HDMI is on the way, i should be playing around this weekend with this stuff.
Having teamviewer already configured for my work and home laptop, this should be real fun to use Note (CPU) and my HD TV
I have used MHL to TV, and bluetooth KB and Mouse for input. Works like a charm!

I am looking forward to purchasing 64GB flash drive for connecting through OTG. Do you guys think it will be supported? What is the maximum size that it can support?
Note, right now, only supports FAT32 File-System.
So even if you have a 64Gig Flash drive, it will still have to be formatted in FAT32.
Windows itself does not format anything bigger than 32GB in FAT32.
Also, you can't put any files bigger than . . i am not sure, either 2 or 4 GB each on a FAT32 formatted drive.
Siyah Kernel has NTFS and CIFS support, but no Note Support yet.
Abbyss has Note support, but no NTFS and CIFS support yet i think.
My OTG cable works fine when connecting a USB stick or a card reader, I am able to use the memory on the attached card.
However, I connected the Logitech dongle for a wireless mouse but it doesn't have any effect on the Note. Am I missing some settings somewhere? I have looked but I can't find anything. I assumed some drivers would be needed for this type of connection but looking at your comments it appears you got it to work without issue.

[Help] OTG cable problem

Hello, i have bought a OTG adaptor but when i connect a USB pen to my Sony Xperia S it doesn't do anything.
I have also tested:
- USB pen FAT32
- USB pen NTFS
I know that this adaptor is working because the store owner tested it on a tablet and it worked.
Stange thing is that i tried to connect to a zte blade, Galaxy Gios and nexus 7 and it didn't work as well....
However when i connect it to the computer the adaptor works...

Can someone advise me?
Thanks

I have many FAT32 USB flash drives that work fine with my XPERIA S no problems.
I have not confirmed this myself, but it is possible the amps provided by the Sony XPERIA S(LT26i) could be as low as 100mA.[citation needed]
Can't find any documented specs for XPERIA S and USB power supplied and/or USB flash drive which also has a known documented amp draw for reference.
I'd really quite like to know what amps the XPERIA S USB port provides.
I have a USB thumb drive that doesn't work on my XPERIA S namely the HP v165w 8GB (FAT32 formatted)
It just comes up with a big red warning triangle saying, "USB Power Consumption error"
However the USB thumb drive HP c330w 8GB does work (NTFS formatted)
Many other SanDIsk FAT32 formatted USB thumb drives also work fine. Namely the SanDisk USB 2.0 Cruzer Facet 32GB
I have downloaded Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ which allows me to successfully mount NTFS formatted flash drives on my root'd XPERIA S.
My 'Desktop' FV-1 Android box with three USB ports/HDMI etc, mounts anything and everything, including the HP v165w 8GB USB thumb drive. So it just means no two Android devices are equal in design and power.
it should work anyway? I've seen a few shots and youtube movies where the USB on-the-go was working on an XS!

Hope someone will Chinese!!!
Connecting U disk need to install a USB storage management software (the software requires root permissions and busybox). Insert OTG and USB flash drive's lights. Then click connect.
The USB file so that you can in SDcard \ usbStorage see.
You can also connect a hub so you can connect a mouse and keyboard like if you want to connect to a large power equipment, so that you need a powered hub. Strong practical ability, but also can directly plug in the power in OTG online peel.
this is what google translates for me! pretty weird to read like this. but maybe we can figure it out?!

In my honest option, I agree with SNYXPR, there should be no requirement for additional software on a standard build XPERIA S(LT26i) when using "supported" FAT32 formatted USB storage.
If the FAT32 formatted USB flash drive you have attached to the XPERIA S meets the power requirements you should be fine.
No software I know of is going to boost the power supplied by the MicroUSB port and at best, any application for USB storage is only able to support additional drive formats like NTFS etc.
I've had/have USB flash drives, Logitech Unifying Mouse/Keyboard attached without problems.
I've got a Galaxy Note Connection kit Model: DR03-S2 and that works fine and I'm able to read/write SD cards, MicroSD cards and USB flash drives using it without problems(one attached device in use at any one time).
If you go to the next step and use a powered USB hub, then a wider array of devices can be used with the XPERIA S as the USB hub is providing the power to connect the device. This includes USB printers and FAT32 formatted USB 80GB plus HDD (both IDE and SATA) etc. Also all those FAT32 formatted storage devices that said the XPERIA S did not meet the power requirement work too.
Remember the XPERIA S only support FAT32 formatted storage by default(natively).
As part of my desktop setup I have the following connection.
Sony DK10 dock plugged into a Aten USB switch which is connected to a powered USB Targus 7 port Hub.
This gives me access to USB mouse/keyboard, USB flash drives or USB HDD of any size, printer, SD card reader on my DELL U2410 monitor and etc.
Then it's just a button press to (USB)switch back to my Notebook, Desktop PC and any other device connected as part of my desktop environment.
Thank you for the replies, i think root is not required since i have seen a vídeo made by XperiaBlog that just connects a USB pen drive to Xperia S and it just works. I have tried a Kignston 8 GB and it doesn't connect, not event to nexus 7 ...

You'll need to buy a USB HUB (Get a powered one to future proof all your USB needs, you can get a USB 2.0 Hub pretty cheap). This will allow you to hook up at least 3 USB's to the OUYA. The Micro USB won't work for things such as hard drives or HID devices.
In the future, please use the search function before posting as this has been talked about in many other posts.

I had this issue where only one harddrive could be used and If you have a harddrive with 2 partitions ouya wont mount it. I wish it would get submitted to the ouya store so I could use the paid version that will mount on startup.

[Q] Trouble getting USB OTG hub working

I'm trying to get a USB OTG hub I bought working with the 10.5 tab s (SM-T805). I can't post a link to the hub, but if you search ebay for 'EZI - Universal 7-IN-1 USB Hub Micro SD TF Card Reader for OTG Smart Phone' you should see it, it's a square one that also reads SD cards.
It works fine with my S4 using stickmount pro, but when I plug it into the tab S the power light on the hub comes on, but the second I plug a USB stick (1Gb USB 2.0) in the light goes out, and nothing happens.
Does anyone have any suggestions to get it working, or can they recommend a USB hub that does work with the Tab S?
Thanks

Hi,
No suggestions to make yours work, but here is a product which seems to be working (USB host and charge simultaneously) :

Thanks, I may take a look at that, I've ordered another OTG 'hub' (one with several cables coming off the main plug) that does accept power in, I'm hoping that will work... If not I'll be trying the one you suggest.
