[Q] Best Kernel for N7100 ? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I am owning Galaxy Note II international version.
currently I am on Stock kernel and now planning for installing custom kernel.
But I am little bit confuse about Kernel...
First of all I am new and I have no Idea about Kernels...
I need kernel for battery life , smooth and for performance purpose...
So suggest me the BEST kernel for my Note II
or should I stick on Stock ????

Is very difficult to judge which is the best. It seems a lot of note2 user using perseus kernel as it contain st tweaks and good battery performance.
By the way, myself always stick with stock kernel which has been highly recommended by the rom dev for stability purpose.

Stock is the best for now
Enviado desde mi GT-N7100 usando Tapatalk 2

I've tried them all and keep coming back to Perseus.
I don't overclock or undervolt (although I used to with my S3) as in my mind the device is plenty fast enough anyway.
Perseus is rock solid for me and battery life is fantastic. Plus you get the option of fast USB Charging, Audio enhancements etc.

Another vote for Perseus kernel

2 vote for Stock Kernel
2 Vote for Perseus kernel
Now again confused

I'm a bit confused, why don't u try each kernel for 1 week or so?? Preference, usage and apps installed are different for everyone. It's ain't hard to change kernel. I was on xperia x10 and let me tell u, it's a pain to change as need to flash through computer. Now it's damn easy on note2.

Mod kernel is always better than stock or else no one would spend their time to come out with a better kernal. My vote goes to perseus kernal.

kernel
I'm using perseus with no problem.

It took around 6.5hours to charge from 10 to 100 !!! I had tweaked the setting ie charging current SDP and CDP to 1700mAh... Bear in mind that I never used my cell during that time... I m using perseus alpha33 !... What must have gone wrong ?? Help needed... Also My laptop does not have any special usb port that supports fast charging... it has 2 USB3.0 and 2 USB2.0 standard ports...

Which ever kernel you try.. Dont put Redpill 1.30... It drained my battery like hell... I changed to Perseus and I face some problems which I am trying to figure out... But the battery drain problem is not there thankfully...

Perseus works fine for me, battery life similar to stock. For performance, you can OC the CPU to 1.8Ghz and the GPU to 800Mhz. Also it can changes the charging current, tweak the audio and calibrate the screen, which is a plus for me.

Even if you set it to 1700mA, the phone cannot draw more power than the usb port (i.e. 500mA for a normal USB port). If you charge it via your computer, it is normal to take around 6, 7 hours. The charger for Note II is 2A, that's why it charges in less than 4 hours for me.

Best kernel for latest fresh?

Alright, so I'm coming from cm 6 and I was using snap with it. But what I'm wondering, is what is the best kernel for fresh.
Thanks.

I'm running King's latest...#8 I think. Getting 53fps, 1250 Quadrant score with stock 998mhz speed. Seems good so far.
If you want great battery and dont care about the fps cap, stick with the latest stock kernel thats built right into fresh.
best kernel for lastest fresh?
I am using the kernal that came with the rom and it seems to work just fine. i thought the claims on battery life might be over rated but can say that with moderate use i got 37 hours from 100% to 15%. Might try kings again but not sure if that would hurt that battery life.

I promise you that the claims of improved battery life for the new HTC kernel are not overstated at all. In fact... there are no words to describe how much of an improvement it actually is. The theory follows that the other kernels will be re-optimized based on the new HTC kernel.
As above, stock gets the best battery life. If you need the OC/FPS/etc you can try King's #8 (I had stability issues, personally) or #6 (worked like a charm). Currently I'm using the netarchy 4.1.9.1 beta. Battery life could be better IMO, but feels really snappy. LP looks too good @ >50 FPS for me to stick with stock.

I have been running Fresh 3.2 with the built in kernel, but I've also been using SetCPU with a very low performance, battery friendly profile.
My question is whether I should be using SetCPU at all anymore, since I heard that this new kernel already supports throttling the CPU back when not in demand. I've been excited to test out how it effects my battery myself, but if someone has the answer, it would save me a week.

Even if the stock kernel does scale down the voltage to the CPU, I think you would still need setCPU if you want to OC. However, the stock kernel probably does not support OCing. However, I think setCPU could still be beneficial for keeping the CPU running at minimum when the phone is in sleep mode. Then again, that feature could also be incorporated into the new HTC kernel for all we know.
Like someone else mentioned, Kings BFS #8 gave me stability issues, but #6 works fantastic in terms of performance and stability; not to mention, everything works on my phone as it should. I got 2 generic batteries and a charger from eBay for dirt cheap, so battery life if of little concern to me.
Is there a kernel for fresh 3.2 with cifs support?

Whats the best rom + kernel for battery?

I havent found a thread that actually answers this question straight forward. Please dont say search the forum because i have. I just need something to make the best out of my phones battery because i need to go ALONG time without plugging in my phone. Hope someone has an answer for me. Thanks

I have had exceptional battery life using BEASTMod.
Just my opinion
they are all good imo, im currently using gingersnap rom, has the faux kernel and i get over 20 hours of some what heavy use, and so it went with juggernaut, beast mod, and bombardier.
but the faux kernel has proved to be smoother and more efficient imo, perhaps slightly better battery.
hope i could help
I like Juggernaut + Bullet.
I am trying to make the most of my battery by:
-underclocking to 384-16xx
-turning on Battery Saver
-running Juice Defender
Anyone know how to undervolt on Bullet?
I am a heavy battery user. I use my phone all day constantly on Netflix (through Wifi) and listening to music with web surfing. I get about 16 hours on it everyday and come home with 4%-30%. It is very odd on why my battery percentage is such a big range. Screen is on like half the day. I really can not complain about this battery.
I am trying to figure out the best setting on tuner pro for dewizzed 2.0. I am only getting like 6 to 8 hours on my phone. When I've seen others get close to 24 with light to moderate use. The rom is Dewizzed 2.0, and I know the some people have the same rom while using tuner pro. I would ask the dev in the devolpment section, but I don't have permissions to do so. Also Hello everyone in xda. I am a long time visitor since the G1 days. I made this account a long time ago, but recently got tired of touchwiz, and decided to give it the boot lol.

I am running Dewizzed 2.0 with Synergy kernel and using System Tuner Pro, 1.62max 384min, 384max and 192min with screen off and am not UV because Synergy is already UV. Getting well over 21 hours of use, light to moderate usage,
Sounds like you have a app that is using a lot of battery.

I noticed a bit of lag when I first flashed Beast Mod w/Synergy. Try this before you flash, it worked for me and my phone is buttery smooth. Boot into recovery wipe cache 3 times, wipe dalvik 3 times. Then go into advanced, then mounts and storage. Format system. Flash synergy, then fix permissions. Reboot, enjoy. Also Im running zepplinrox's V6 supercharger script. That helps out with smoothness too!
Use faux kernel with fauxclock app. Max 1.5 min 384 then max 384 min 384 with screen off

well the best thing to do for any rom is under volt and min the cpu speed i think ginger snap is good for both kernel and rom
Best battery, bombardier 3.0+synergy V.10 for extra battery life I use juice defender, 1day and change with moderate usage.

Is stock ROM less battery drain??

Which rom is the best [for battery life] between these one??
- cyanogenmod
- miui
- stock ics
All with the ultima kernel from riyal.

For me its KA21 with Arcknight 3.3 Stock Kernel.
Really smooth, better battery than i experienced stockwise...
try ICS_anzu_KTG tuned_V1.41: governor interactiv
actually battery drain more depends on the kernels..for best battery life stock kernel is the best
Guys note that lad has Pro not Arc. Stock is usually the worst, or better - default gauge for custom ROMs. I've been watching cyanogenmod discussion for a while, usually users feedback on battery life varied from version to version; for tweaked versions can be said that battery life is the same as in stock while the performance is 20% better. I don't know about MIUI.
(Out of your question, the best for battery life are Ultima ROM and Buttermilk ROM which are optimized for battery life and battery life is notably better there; with Buttermilk and low usage you can do as much as 4 days without charging - worth for outdoor trips. Ultima ROM when idle eats like 0,6% per hour.)
Stock rom with stock kernal had the best battery life... but also lags the most.
I recomend arconium ICS with stock kernal for a balaced experiance...!!!

Well if you game a lot compared to someone who doesn't then obviously ones battery will last longer than the other, so there's a few factors that can be taken into account in regards to battery life.

well my method of testing battery drain(i guess everybody tests the same way) is only on standby..how much time does it take to move 1% down when the phone is not touched for an hr or 2...in exceptional cases battery will drain fast while using 3G in one kernel but lil slow on other kernel..
again my point is kernel is more responsible for battery life of the phone rather than a ROM..

Then you need to take syncing into account, if yours is on and mine is off on the same kernel then yours may drian a bit quicker than mine, which goes back to my point of how a user uses their Phone. I don't think it's a black and white issue.

yea dude.. i get it..my point was simple..people were talking about best roms for battery life.. i just said kernel plays an important role in deciding that..that was my only point..i wasnt arguing with anyone..and testing of battery drain at standby means with data off, bluetooth off, gps off..hence syncing of account wont come into picture
I'm not arguing, just trying to make a point also.

Yes I know and sorry, the last two ROMs I was refering to are GB. However, Riyal is working on Ultima ICS ROM and it already exists in alpha version! See this post with download link Hopefully the ROM will have similar advantages as has GB Ultima ROM over GB stock ROM, which means better battery life, better wi-fi reception, improved camera and so on.

I did that when I had iPhone 4.
im using cm7.2 latest release alvays, i also have an app set cpu and i set my governor to scary, min freq 145 mhz, and max 1024, and im using profiles for apps that im using most of time (underclock cpu while using that apps)
with that i have at least 40% better battery life
and, yes, u can downgrade using flashtool

So far Arcknight kernel has quite the reputation for good battery life. IMO, for roms i find CM9 from FreeXperia project quite awesome but then there's an issue with the battery stats and brightness for now so wait for the next release i guess. for GB try arconium 8.2. still mostly its based on kernel and also the governor.

[Q] Best HOX kernel for battery life (smooth ui no gaming)

What is the best kernel for getting the best battery life? I have tried many and the most screen time I am able to achieve is 3-4 hours. This is better than most users but I am sure that getting 5 hours could be done with a kernel that has proper power savings. The phone is overpowered and ramps up its cpu for simple tasks like sending whatsapps. Also is there a kernel/rom combo for achieving the best battery life that work great together? So far the best for me was the Renovate 3.0 rom running a stock kernel reaching 4 hours of screen time. I am currently running maXimus 2.2 with faux 006m and getting around 3 and a half hours of screen time.
Thanks,

Yes and even purchased his app to see if turning off cores and under clocking would help. His kernel has some serious wifi issues so I could not keep it. But also the cores would turn on even when they are set not to. Seems that it is not perfected yet.

Try n3ocort3x's kernels. He's developing his kernels for the most battery life without compromising the ui smoothness and performance. Does pretty well on sticking your custom underclocked values and does a great job on undervolting.

2.3.6 or 4.0 ROM for the best battery life? (Wonder)

I used rebel rom and it's great (2-4 days).Even if overuse it it lasts 35-40 hours. But it's touch sensitivity sucks. (for example : When i touch the screen to go to another part of the menu it seems like i'm trying to run an application.I mean it looks like it's highlighted)
So what are suggestions for good battery life and touch sensitivity? (except rebel rom)

Well I never got 2-4 days with any ROM. Stock ROM (2.3.6) usually lasted full day and a half of use and I had to charge it accordingly. With CM10 I get pretty much the same battery life I got from STOCK rom. (Of course I am using Deep Sleep Battery Saver and Greenify). But I am not a heavy gamer (dont play games at all, may sudoku once in a while )
So they are the same to me.. But feature wise, I prefer CM10 of course..

The Stock Samsung ROM also for me only lasted 1, 1/2 up to 2 days. Now I´m Using Arcos CM9 RC2 and have to recharge it somwhere between 3 and 5 days. (depending on my usage)
I found Arcos 2.6.35 Kernel to be the most stable and battery friendly Kernel unlike the new 3.0 Kernel, where people are still reporting stability issues and some of us are having a high battery drain issue. So if you decide to try Arcos latest CM9 or CM10 and will get about the same battery life or worse than Samsungs Stock ROM, I would suggest to try CM9 RC2.
By using Arcos surces I even compiled my own 2.6.35 Kernel by just adding OC features and software Voltage control. With this Kernel I´m even able to run my phone at Extreme Undervolting settings rock solid.
There are even other custom Kernels you can use with RC2 or RC3, but for me they all didn´t run stable even at stock voltages due to all the tweaks in there. My SGW doesn´t like the additional tweaks. Especially the memory tweaks, though for others they seem to run stable.
That´s why I´m using now my own Kernel with OC and UV options but leaving the rest untouched. By undervolting the CPU it doesn´t last longer than I would keep the phone the whole time in DeepSleep, but it reduces the battery drain significantly when in use.
Wow 3 to 5 days is amazing. But I don't think I can give up CM10 . One and a half day is good enough for me. I had stability issues with CM9 RC5 and 6 with kernel 3 but those issues are not there in CM10 alphas I tried. I am on alpha 7 now and everything is in great working order.
And for a smartphone one and a half day is acceptable for my standards.

I think 5 days is about the max you can reach. But to reach this your phone need to be all the time in DeepSleep. So no calls, no WiFi, no MobileData, simply nothing. But in that case you also do not need a phone at all.
That´s also why I said somwhere between 3-5 days depending on my habbits.
For me the battery drain drops at night to somwhere between 5-8mA. Sometimes even to 2mA. I doubt the Slimbeam ROM can beat this as it also uses either Arcos 2.6 or 3.0 Kernel.
All the custom ROMs out there are basing on Arcos Kernels and work. Simply said they are still Arcos ROM´s with a modified or a different User Interface. Some are more battery freindly and some are less because of the background processes that are keeping the phone unnecessary active. But regarding DeepSleep the battery drain is depending on Arcos Kernel and how well the DeepSleep mode is tuned in this Kernel.

you mentioned smartassv2 kernel on K2.6. Where can i get it? i've flashed Slimbean, but i can't undervolt and can't choose any other kernel
You can get the Kernel here. download "kernel-JB-V2-NORMALMEM-2.6.35-06-12-12" and flash in recovery.
Thanks. Btw, is this my imagination or is the camera quality compared to CM9 poor on Slimbean?
