Random Reboots since JVB by OTA - Sprint LG Optimus G

This has happened to me twice while in my pocket since receiving the OTA a week ago. This never happened with ZV9 since getting the phone months ago.
Has anybody else seen this? Any ideas what this might be? Any apps to help figure out what's causing this? Is this related to the location service reboots that other phones on Jelly Bean like the Nexus were having?

I am not a big fan of Android version changes via "patching" for this very reason. I suggest doing a factory reset and see if it continues to happen.

Good call, thanks for the input. I was considering doing that if it keeps up.
I'll probably root and unlock soon anyway once I have some time.

I had this problem and it only happened after I had updated the Android Booster FREE app. I uninstalled Android Booster FREE (as it really wasn't useful, in my opinion anyway) and the problem disappeared. If you have this app installed maybe you can uninstall it and see if that solves your problem.

Thanks for the input, but I never use any apps of that nature, and no power saver apps either.

[Q] SGS3 screen flashes off and on randomly while in use

This never used to happen but in the last week has.
While using it, whether I'm in GoSMS Pro, or Chrome or even in the homescreen the screen will fade to black then back one to three times. It almost feels like proximity detection but there's absolutely no obstruction nor am I in a call.
Running 4.0.4 stock unrooted, latest update from Rogers.
Has anyone had this? Getting a bit worried!
Screen blacking out randomly
I'm also having this problem. I'm also on Rogers but I'm am rooted. I am however still using the stock rom. It all started happening after I did the latest update. Any help would be appreciated.

YES! Finally I'm not alone.
I was worried this was isolated. This confirms even more my suspicion it's a software not a hardware issue. The other reason why it would be so is because after it flashes off and on, the screen elements also do, which indicates the software is trying to refresh the display. If it were hardware it would likely not fade flash and nothing would change on the screen.
It sounds like the software update caused it as I noticed it started after installing it.
I ended up doing a hard reset yesterday after having had no responses. I am hoping it might help. I hate having to reinitialize so much crap while unrooted though. I was hoping to keep it stock and not worry about saving app data until Jelly Bean official stock is out. Oh well.
I also learned S Memo Samsung account syncing doesn't work. Good thing I made a Kies backup. Sigh...

Update: unfortunately the hard reset did not fix it. Problem has returned as of Sunday. I hope Jelly Bean comes soon. :S
In the meantime I'm talking with Rogers about this and pointing them to this thread.

I think I've solved it, but this may not be a solution for most people experiencing this (my friend also had this issue). In my case removing the game Modern War solved it.
I remember that after I installed it, the system started doing these flashes. It now has been behaving ok for 4 days since uninstalling it.
I don't think the game itself is the cause, but rather there could be some background task from it (it does occasionally push game event updates as notifications) that doesn't like the 4.0.4 update. In this case I can't quite identify what nor do I know how to diagnose it.
Just thought I'd update people in case they still have this issue. It may be one of your apps, essentially. It sucks and it shouldn't happen, but alas unless we test with a new stock OS update, we won't have much to eliminate it without removing the offending app.

[Q] HOX Loosing the plot?

Hi all, heres the story:
At first, I thought I was loosing my mind, I kept checking my phone and the WiFi was always off, which is weird for me.
Anyway I turn it back on and go about my day, check half an hour later its off.
I was like "im sure I turned that back on" anyway same again half an hour later.
So I was watching it this dinner, and low and behold I watch both my WiFi and my network connections restart themselves like someone was switching them on and off, but the WiFi didn't re-connect and stayed off, wereas data re-connected ok.
It goes on ! I then realised that my phone was calling people by itself, which is also weird as theres no buttons to accidently press to call people? (ITS TOUCHSCREEN!!!)
Anyway, today I recieved a text off someone asking me why the heck I'd just sent them map co-ordinates.
So someone or my phone is sending people map co-ordinates....
The ONLY thing I can think of is Cerberus, could Cerberus be causing this?
Is this the phone telling me its on its way out?
Any solutions?
THANKS ALL !
You have kind of answered your own question. Just uninstall Cerberus and see if it fixes it.

Yay yet another completely useless response thanks but I said could it be Cerberus?
Does any1 else have a suggestion I could gain something from?
As stated before, I will try removing Cerberus but would like any information or suggestions please.
Malware? Maybe you installed an app that's malicious.
Hickory, Dickory, Dox...Snowflake approves of my HOX....
try and remember what apps you installed around the time this started to happen and work your way backwards

Thanks for all your reponses, thats the thing I'm really picky over apps, and havent really installed an app for months on my HOX, as I generally do everything on my N7 now.
UPDATE:
I un-installed Cerberus, cleared cache and tried to find any left behind data(wasnt any?)
Also deleted my device off the Cerberus app website
LOW AND BEHOLD THIS MORNING CONNECTIONS TURN OFF AND ON?!?!?!
What can be doing this? I only have apps from trusted Vendors such as Natwest, Vodaphone, couple of games, Tasker etc :/
Any ideas?
Can it be Tasker? It's supposed to automate tasks. Maybe there are some causing all this. Try freezing it.

I also thought it could be tasker, but Tasker has been setup for months and months, and not changed for atleast 2/3 months+
I checked tasker, and theres only 3 profiles, which have nothing to do with any connections.
They're profiles such as, plug headphones in and music player appears.
PS - Cannot freeze, stock and un-rooted.
My mate had similar issues with his SGS2. Upon examining the phone I discovered an app called Blackmart Alpha, I discovered it was a program which downloads cracked/patched apps. Did a hard reset of the phone and all was fixed, well not all, he was very pi$$ed with me for losing a heap of apps.

I know where your coming from mate, but this is not me.
I enjoy supporting the developers that make apps, and if that means buying a paid version of an app then so be it.
I don't download any dodgey things, all my downloads are through the play store.
Bah this is pickling me
Latest thing I downloaded was quadrant benchmark (week ago?)

Random reboots

Im new in this nexus section...i'm asking why my galaxy nexus sometimes reboots? It has the latest 4.2.2 android version stock...it isnt the update, i think, because also before this happen...and when it reboots there's like a opened locket under the google logo....who can help.me? I tried also the nexus toolkit...but when i try to do something with fastboot the program says WAITING DEVICE forever...
Guys, please help!! Its really urgent!
Hi,
I think there are two reasons for random reboots:
1- overheating
2-lack of ram (many running proceses, so ram gets full, so it reboots.
Press the thanks button if I helped

No, even when the battery isnt hot it reboots!!
and it is without any apps installed, only stock apps!! I did also a factory reset from settings..but nothing happened...
Searching on net, i read that the opened locket is the bootloader....is that causing random reboots? If yes, how to relock with toolkit? Beacause it says me WAITING DEVICE

No, unlocking the bootloader shouldn't do this. I have an unlocked bootloader, and I have this phone(xperia arc) for 5 months and I only had one random reboot and it was definitely because of lack of ram

Yes but im talking about NEXUS and maybe its different!!
I used to have that happen all the time. I used to think that the phone sucked but my husband never had that happen with his. I compared the apps and wiped my phone, only installed what he had on there. It still happened. I was really beginning to get mad but I wiped it again. I Installed things one by one only allowing myself to install a new app only after it had gone a week with no nonsense. Yes, this was a painful process but I found the cause of my random reboots. I use Handcent. That alone isn't the cause. When I would get new sounds for my GN, I would have the option of making them a ringtone or a Handcent notification among other things. If I made Handcent notifications, that seemed to cause the problem. If I move a sound into the notifications folder and assign it to contacts in Handcent, everything has been fine.
I don't know if this helps your problem but some settings could affect unexpected things. Good luck!

I did factory reset twice from device's settings, but nothing.
no one who can help? wow!!
I had random reboots on my Verizon GN running the OTA 4.1.1. I got so fed up with it that I went back to 4.0.4. I have had no problems or reboots since doing this.
Are you running Chrome or the stock browser? I've always had the random restarts on my N10, but only started seeing them on my GN after I started using Chrome around the time 4.2.2 came out.

OP, read the return to stickied thread on general forum by efrant, if your problems still happen after restoring back to stock through fastboot, then you may have faulty hw.

Phone constantly freezing and rebooting

So apparently my Stock Rooted GS3 (doesn't even have a custom recovery) decided to start acting terribly and now it freezes almost anytime I try to use it. It'll then reboot itself, and freeze again minutes later.
This is absolutely ridiculous, I literally didn't do a thing! I just want the damn phone to work (hence why I didn't even install a custom ROM) and of course it apparently decides to stop working on me.
I really, really do not want to have to reset the phone to factory settings only to find out it still freezes (which is what some other people with similar issues did).
If anyone knows a solution, please tell me. This is really frustrating.
Edit: So I tried uninstalling updates on Google Play Services to see if that was messing with anything (before I had downloaded a leaked version of it to run the Kit Kat launcher) and then installed the regular update and so far everything seems to be working. It's only been 10 minutes or so though so it's a bit early to tell. Hopefully this solved my issue.

Fortunately I don't think I have to. It seems reinstalling Google Play Services has fixed it. It was a lucky guess too since the only reason why I thought to do that was because I noticed in the Battery settings it said that Google Play Services had been keeping my phone awake which usually never happens.

Yea thats true. Well glad it's working so far. :good:
Same thing happening to me today; VERY frustrating.
I don't recall what programs automatically updated overnight (I just usually swipe the message away in the morning when it says that).
It won't stay on (and unfrozen) long enough to make it into Google Play.
Do I *need* Odin or can I flash it with TWRP directly from the phone, etc.?
been warned mine was doing this recently and now its dead tried another battery nothing. Going to the sprint store to see what they can do for me dont want to pay a $200.00 deductible for phone that's a year old
If I were you I would because it usually solves problems for me.

Erratic ram management in Android 10

Hey guys, I have updated to Android 10 from quite a sometime now(was a beta tester) and was noticing that device practically become usable after a few days of usage. Keyboard stops popping up, apps get killed in background and so on..
This issue gets fixed by a restart though. Has anyone else noticed something similar?
I am also facing issues after Android 10 update. Please let me know if you find permanent fix or solution.
Yes, same here. I reverted back to Pie. I thought I was the only one!
Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Nope, you are not alone :crying:
i can confirm the exact same issue since OTA update to Android 10 on S9 (DBT). currently with second minor Update to DTAD build problem still there. Tried different things to work around but yet nothing helped. i assume it has something to do with memory leak on swap partition. memoryinfo & swapcheck app always show 0 byte free swap memory which cannot be freed again when this occurs. As stated before, only reset phone helps, but after 24h its the same. struggling with this since the first Q Update Version. Any suggestions highly appreciated.

Auto-restart every morning
I didn't find any issue, and I didn't factory reset my device after installing the update. My phone runs quite smoothly, no issues whatsoever.
The only minor bug is that the transition animation of the clock from the lock screen to the always on display is laggy, and sometimes the instructions like "hold your phone more upright" get stuck on the always on display. I hope this will get fixed in the next update.
@icoolguy1995
any news on this issue? Perhaps it's any app or launcher or tool some of us use in common, since it seems not everyone is affected. i have to admit, that i have really a ton of apps on my device and freqently use it. But I already had the same conditions on Pie and there never run in this lag problem,so....

Well I am still researching about this issue. I reported this issue couple of times to Samsung during beta testing; they said, they are unable to reproduce this issue neither they are able to see it on logs which I have sent. For me, the issue starts to appear after 91 hours of usage without a restart. Weirdly, using any keyboard other than Samsung Keyboard seems to help somewhat. I tried using Gboard and the issue somewhat mitigated but still annoying enough.

I have reflash the firmware because it was getting unbearable. It's been 3 days, no issues yet. Will keep you guys updated.

Same issue here. After android 10 update it's laggy as hell. Android auto crashes randomly. Spotify stops working..

No effect of reflashing. Same issue popup up after 4-5 days. I wonder if this is more like a hardware related issue then software?
No, i don't think so.
Got a new update, it made issue worse. Now, instead of 90 hours free of system killing spree I am getting 70 around-ish hours with good ram management. So my workaround for this is now to set auto restart in 3 days interval.
