Google+ instant upload - Every frame of Zoe! - One (M7) Themes and Apps

Has anyone else noticed that if you enable Google+s Instant Upload feature with the HTC One, it will upload every frame of a Zoe (as well as the movie file) to your designated album. This makes it so messy! I wonder if anyone will come up with a work around for this?

AW: Google+ instant upload - Every frame of Zoe!
Dropbox does that as well .
It's necessary to save every frame as it should be a 1:1 backup of your taken pictures.

Yeah this is really annoying. Just synced 1000 photo's to my PC. I have now learned to save an event as a mp4 then delete the Zoe photos. Maybe a software update can save us?

I agree that this is a shift from what we are used to with our previous phones. However, each zoe contains a couple of great frames that I actually want to keep as single-frame photos. So how is the phone supposed to know which of the frames are worth keeping? If you just keep the Zoe, then the individual frames are somewhat lost.
I am used to sorting through hundreds of photos, adding the 'good' ones to albums, and deleting the rest from instant upload. Going from hundreds to thousands is definitely going to take an adjustment. I am not sure how HTC will approach this issue, or if they will even approach it. Since google makes it quite easy to select a whole album and hit 'delete', I don't think it will be that difficult to deal with from a user perspective. select the photos you want to keep, select the actual 'zoe' file if you want to keep it, add them to an album of your choice. Then select the rest of the event and delete it all.
I was wondering why my battery just wasn't lasting, but it must have been all the constant uploading all day long. I will set it to upload only when charging, that should help.

I'm gonna say easy: new menu item next to the current 'save frame' that says keep all frames. Save all these otherwise 'temp' images in a subdirectory with .nomedia and delete once the zoe is deleted to keep from selling, and place it outside the camera directory so theyre not auto-uploaded and further suck my borderline battery any further down.
I can't believe the average consumer is expecting and wanting 30 more "bonus" photos for every movie... I know I frakkin don't.
I have severely curtailed my use of zoe until this is fixed.

I just experienced the same. Phone eating through the battery as it quietly uploaded about 400 zoe frames.
And there lies the problem. I've got in the habit of editing my albums right down and deleting does/frames where needed, but I don't always have time to do this directly after taking the photos.
Google+ doesn't know to only start uploading once I've been through and edited.
So either I accept that I'll have to go through and re-edit my google+ albums, or I turn off auto-upload and lose the lovely backup functionality of the service.

Because people are looking for a solution, such as something HTC will roll out or dev's will sort.
For most (me included) turning off instant upload is not the answer, as the whole point of instant upload is to keep a real-time backup of your images.
It is just the bad design of saving ZOE images that is causing the problems.

QED as pointed out in post 2 of this thread.
If you want to save certain images on the go, do so by selecting the image you want to save and uploading that.
Leave sorting out the rest of the images until it's more convenient to you. Seems obvious.

Your "answer" is laughable...
I'm not here to troll, and neither was the other guy, but listen to what you are asking for....
I want all of my photos backed up instantly, except for the photos I don't like, because I haven't reviewed them yet.
So, you DONT want all your photos instantly backed up
Soluntion
Turn off auto-upload, and only upload once you've gone through your photos.
It's a solution, you want your phone to figure out what the best picture you took in a series is before it's saved. That's a ridiculous request if you stop and think about it. No one on the planet would hire a professional photographer again if this software existed.

Workflow ... he's never heard of it and wants someone to write an app for that

Not true. There could definitely be options. If you click on a zoe there is a bar in the timeline that shows where the picture taken when you pressed the shutter is. There could be an option to only make that 1 photo available for upload.
Or there could be an option to only make the zoe.mp4 available for upload.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not posting here DEMANDING a solution. I just noted it here as a possible issue with using zoes.

Wow, you must end up 'rolling your eyes' at a lot of stuff on XDA then. These are called smartphones for a reason.
Yet people still look at them, use them, and think they could be improved somehow. That's why we install custom roms and customisation apps.
Carrying around a diary, and a notebook and an address book used to be a 'workflow'
Then someone came up with something better.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with noting the inefficiencies in your workflow to try and improve/speed thing along.
You've made your point that you don't think this is an issue. Now please leave this thread alone.

I do. Have been doing so for the last six and a half years, when it was all fields round here.
90% of the posts on xda are from people who wilfully refuse to RTFM or STFW, and don't possess any form of critical analysis.
Too many people expect everything to be done for them by others, instantly.
They can't be bothered to read, search, read, read, read and then search some more, like the rest of xda residents.
Most can't even be bothered to check their spelling, their sentence construction, how to phrase a question or be polite enough even to come back to a thread to say thanks.
Then there are the people who demand that other people, get out of threads

Yeah I was stoked about it at first, but this app royally blows. It's seriously NO different than opening your browser on the phone and going to docs.google.com. You still can't edit formulas in spreadsheets (a must since I do my budget on there), and the editing interface is just as bad as the web page, in that you click on a line, have to edit only 1 line at a time and have to save it after editing. Why not just let us edit the cells individually? Thanks for finally getting around to mediocrity Google.

The app is supposed to be able to perform OCR on text photographed with the phone. Anyone get this to work very well? Every time I've tried it (on different forms of source text) it just one line of the text, or a few scattered letters. Seems like it could be a handy function, if it worked.

Ah yes, that is a VERY useful thing! Glad to see that there are indeed more features. I just tried it and it's actually very good; I just scanned a page from a book, and although it has a few odd formatting problems, the text was almost perfect. Nice job Google.

Idk if u can completely disable it but long pressing the contact u can remove em in 1 click i will check if they can be disabled and edit the post
Edit: i dont see any option to disable them entirely but deleteing is easy and it deletes the entire frequent call log for that contact and not just one call at a time so if u have (contact name) 15 calls to that contact it deletes all 15 calls and not just 1 call at a time

If you're going to be a douche and cheat on your woman and not have the balls to, you know - be a man and tell her what's up. Then at least put in some effort to cover your tracks instead of being lazy. Delete the frequently called list yourself, manually.
I'll take my infraction if that's what happens. This thread is stupid. Reported.

Do most people not know about the apps on the market that hide info like that? If you want to hide certain numbers when they call/text - get a black list app/privacy app or something like that. I like showing off what my phone can do also so I know what you mean. However, I don't allow complete strangers to handle my phone. I don't mind people seeing the name of someone I call often - I'm more concerned about the pictures they might see.
Guys, I use shady sms. It's got a built in call guard and a hidden contact list. Dev is cool too, he responds with help usually same day.
It blocks calls, sms, and hides them in the app. There's no app icon either. To open it, you go to phone, type your secret code, and hit send.

I know there other members looking for a similar solution to this problem....
Didn't mean to touch a nerve, hope you get your partner back, root their phone or something nice like that! Good luck!
Maybe edit the phone.apk or dialer.apk to get rid of the frequent list all together.
Or it may just be editing a value check for a call to save to the list. That way its always empty.
If you're going to be a jerk to your wife, then at least just get a separate phone. Or maybe you DO want to get caught. If you really cared you would not cheat, and if she's not what you want any more do the right thing and divorce her so she can do what she wants and maybe find someone who respects her without having to be concerned about someone who seems to not care about her(you).
That being said, I would check out Shady SMS, seems to help some ways. I figure the cost is worth it if you don't want to get caught.

They changed the name to Private SMS & Call but it works wonders and is free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superdroid.spc&hl=en

it's kinda rude, saying that XDA is doing it for bucks,
since they did this to provide users an independent forum app,
you justified the means without proper knowledge,
And to put it, Tapatalk is a paid app. And XDA offers free as well as premium app. So users who don't have Tapatalk has the option to get the free XDA app, if they have only registered on XDA for browsing the forums. Not many users are members of different forums.
i got both...but to be honest i only use XDA app now as this is the only forum i check. and if by me having the premium version helps support for the maintenance of the site, it is the least i can do for what i have learned from XDA over the last two years and the goodies that i have done to my phone to make it better

Reread your thread title and OP. Nowhere does it state that it's directed to people who use multiple forums, and you probably would have received different replies completely if you had made that clear. All you did was make the XDA app seem useless, which is wrong, because for people who only use XDA there's no point paying for tapatalk.

Personally, I don't see any difference between the two. They are identical to me, except that Tap can have multiple forums in it, obviously.
But I am having a problem with both and can't use any of the four forum apps I have purchased:
XDA Premium (phone)
XDA HD (tablet)
TapaTalk HD
TapaTalk 2
Don't get me wrong, I am more than happy to support the developers! I'm not bragging, but I have purchased about 300 apps in the last year and most of them worked fine without paying for them. I just wanted to make clear that this is not about complaining because of spending the money. I just sincerely want to be able to use them and I can't use any of the four.
What I mean by that, is that after scouring XDA and Google, I cannot find any help on how to view messages that I have received email notifications for, like when someone responds directly to one of your posts, or even when they post in a thread/forum you are Subscribed to.
I know that I can go into the XDA/TapaTalk (2) apps and go to:
LATEST >> PARTICIPATED
... But that doesn't take me to the posts that I have been notified about, like if I tap the link in the email and it takes me right to the message, ya know?
So I end up tapping the link and trying to view the messages in the browser on my phone, but since XDA does not have a mobile version of their web site, I end up double-tapping it to try to blow it up and then moving it all around the screen, back and forth, to try to read the message.
And of course, posting that way is Hell! It is very difficult to get it to go back up in the message and you can't even see a whole sentence, because it's blown up and the regular display is microscopic!
Does anyonne know how it is done? I love the concept of these apps, but I cannot believe that they would have left that sort of feature out, given that people would constantly be responding to posts they are notified about, right?
So I figure that I must be missing something. But I have looked at these apps for almost a year now (and recently purchased the new TapaTalk 2, hoping it had stuff the original doesn't) and I just can't find how to do this.
Does anyone know how this is done? Please?
Again, going to LATEST >> PARTICIPATED does not list/take me to the messages I am being notified about. The threads are in the list somewhere, I'm sure, but I'm hoping to do it like I do when I tap on the link in an email message. It would be really cool if you tapped on one and it opened Tap right to that specific message that you're being notified about!
I may have missed this answer somewhere in these forums, but I swear, I did scour them as best I could and I just cannot find this specific help! Nor did I find any help from the Tap folks, except how a forum owner could add their forum and a Google search produced the same result.
I apologize for the long message. I just wanted to make sure that I was absolutely clear, so that folks did not just guide me to "LATEST >> PARTICIPATED".
Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!

Big post.
So basically what you want is when you click on a link on any other app (mail for eg. since its giving you notifications). You need to clear all the defaults you have set around with your browsers. (do it from settings»applications»manage»here).
After that whenever you click on a link, it will show up a popup to chose the app to procede for the link. If the link is from xda use tapatalk (it'll take you to the post right away), if from other site, use your preffered browser. Again do not set anything as default as tapatalk cannot open other sites and you will need to clear the defaults again.
A Hero Can Be Anyone.
Dear Bruce Wayne,
Okay, I did what you said and it did not take me to the exact message. But it did take me to the same page, which makes it just a matter of scrolling down a few swipes up worth to scroll down to the message, which is certainly plenty good enough!
Plus, now I understand why this app's default posts per page is set to 10.
Thanks a bunch for your help, Bruce! I mean that! I can now, finally, use TapaTalk after a year of owning it! And that's because you took a few minutes out of your time to answer my question simply and plainly, without first assuming a certain level of knowledge on my part and I really appreciate that!
And I'm sincerely not trying to patronize you. As I said, I do mean that. It can be very difficult to get help, when so many people see a question as being "stupid" and you can't find anything on the web, ya know?
There was one thing I noticed though in the TapaTalk 2 app, which was that there was no option to "Quote" when responding (I wanted to quote a couple of sentences of you response when I replied).
Is there a trick to making it show that option that you know of?
If there isn't one, how would you know if it's responding to the message you're looking at on the screen?
Sorry to bother you again, Bruce! Last time, I promise!

How to permanently upload faces

How does one upload watch faces permanently as is done with eg the speed watch face made by zuhanden?
If he can do it, there must be a way...
Thanks.
Is it really so difficult to be specific when you post a thread? It's not just you. I've seen so many threads where it's like a portion of the thought that's on your head makes it on the page...and we're left to try and guess just what the heck you're talking about.
Upload permanently? What does that mean? If you upload to any free hosting site, it'll be subject to a DMCA take-down, like FaceRepo or XDA now has been removing faces after getting C&D letters. Or you can pay for your own server, and even then you're liable to C&D letters if your host wants to take action, or to legal consequences if they leave it up to you and you ignore it.
But then again, I might not be even close to what you're asking since you didn't really say it clearly.

+1
Thought it was just me. I appreciate we're multicultural here but come on??
What he means is have the watch face uploaded to the watch to select it in the same way we do the stock faces. When he downloaded the speed watch face from the play store this behaves the same as a stock face. i.e not having to go onto facer and select the watch face, then select facer from the 360
The clock face that you see on the smart watch in fact is not just a wall paper , it is a custom android program that one can customize the contents .

Thanks hmanxx, that makes sense. So no easy way to do that it seems.
To others, yes, I meant upload to watch... guess I would have been in even bigger trouble if I had asked in this forum about how to upload things in a more general sense But point taken, was perfectly clear in my head...

Switching from iPhone to Pixel 3 XL - WhatsApp Migration?

So, I'm making the switch. I understand that WhatsApp on the iPhone and Android do not share backups (iCloud v Google Drive). What's the best way to migrate my 3 GB of WA data (text, images, video) for my soon to arrive Pixel 3 XL? I know that WhatsApp says it can't be done but I seem to recall several articles about extracting from an iTune backup and using some software t reconstruct on Android. I also think that Dr Fone claims to do this. Anyone have success? I sure a number of you have made a similar switch and could help me better understand what's ahead. Thanks.
pretty sure you can upload your photos and videos to google photos and then have them download on the pixel (assuming the iphone saves the photos and videos to the gallery)
another limitation of iphones... on android you can literally copy and paste.

Thanks. I'm hoping that I can retain the conversation strings with the media embedded. Dr Fone software claims to support this. I also have read about a more complicated process using Wazzap Migrator and an unencrypted iTunes backup. I'm still hoping that someone here has actually done this and can advise.
Haven't tried it myself, but this seems like a recent way to do it:

Thanks . . . That's the method that uses WazzapMigrator. I'm guessing that's what I'll try first.
Good luck!
Never had any luck with this whenever I was using an iPhone for work and moved to android. Had to start from scratch

Will try and advise as soon as my 3 XL arrives. Hope to keep you safe.
I moved my wife from IPhone to Android a few weeks ago finally. Followed a guide, all went pretty smoothly, although I think we had to buy an app for like £3/4 maybe?
