OK, so I dropped my phone and the LCD went out, I hooked the phone up to the laptop and the phone still works fine, even the touch screen works. ( I used My MObiler to see phone screen on the pc).
I bought a new LCD screen off of Ebay and replace it, now, the LCD screen works, but for some reason, the touch screen stopped working.
When I took the LCD apart from the touch screen, there seem to be a layer of grease of some sort between the touch screen and the LCD. I wiped it off with a lens cloth, don't know if that caused any problem.
Also there is a dark film (tinted) glued to the touch screen when looking from the back, what is that for? I looked at replacement touch screen on Ebay but none of them have the tinted film layer. I've search all over the internet for instructions but can't find any.
So my question is, what are the correct procedures for replacing the LCD screen and the touch screen (digitizer) ? Also after I installed the new LCD screen, the screen is very reflective and the glare is really bad, how do I fix that problem?

You should have replaced both the LCD screen and the Digitizer. There are complete kits on ebay as well as instructions/tools to complete the replacement. Did you purchase the digitizer also?

I went ahead and purchased the digitizer by itself after the original stopped working. Hopefully, it will get my phone back to normal. Thanks for your reply!
in the wiki theres disassebly instructions of the device that should help you (but you probably already know that since you've already switched out the LCD)
In my experience, i have never replaced either the digitizer, or the LCD by themselves, i've always bought LCD+Digitizer and replaced them as one. Seems like the Digitizer is usually glued onto the LCD and i never wanted to mess with that.

I should have ordered the kit instead of just the LCD. What lead me to order just the LCD is when I hooked the phone to my pc and confirmedthe digitizer still worked. And since this is the first time ever I disassemble a phone, I assumed the two things were separated.
But my digitizer should come in tomorrow so I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for the info.
where did you find a guide to take apart the TP2? I just had the unfortuante luck of smashing mine in the car door as I got in....it fell out of my pocket the exact moment i was closing the door....
My screen is shot, but other than that the device appears to work. I can power on, and try to dial after I press the hard key for the phone pad. The touch portion seems to work, but from your luck, I guess I am looking at having to replace both...
anyhow...any advice on guides and how to find the stuff on the ebay would be apperciated.
I still have 18 months of a 2 yr contract....sucks....and it sucks doubly becuase i just took the insurance off last month....grr..

I did not follow those instructions since I did not want to open the back of the phone.
What i did was I tilted up the phone and used a very small screwdriver and unscrewed the two screws from an angle (it worked).
Then I pried the back of the tilting part of the phone all around to reveal the inside. Be careful not to pull too hard on the flat cable since it's still attached to the back (body) of the phone.
The LCD and touch screen are glued together (I didn't know that before). At this point I would remove the tape that is attaching the flat cable to the back of the LCD, and also lift up the clear yellow tape and detach the three connections.
The widest ribbon is from the LCD, the medium one is for the 4 hard buttons in the front, and the little one is for the touch screen.
I would suggest wearing some sort of anti-static wrist strap (I think I fried my touch screen along with the flat ribbon that is attached to the phone while trying to replace the LCD without anti-static wrist strap).
Once the whole tilting part is freed from the phone, I would carefully push the whole screen (digitizer + lcd) out from the frame, again, they are glued to the frame but can be removed fairly easy.
That's it, the install is reversed of removal and hopefully yours will work again.
Like I said, I think I fried my flat ribbon so after replacing the Digitizer (it came in today), the touch screen still doesn't work, so now I'm looking for that part, I'd appreciate a link to it if anybody knows where to get one.
Oh, and for the parts, just do a search on ebay for "touch pro 2 lcd" or touch pro 2 lcd + digitizer"

What tape to use to stick digitizer back to inner bezel/chassis?
Hi - i got as far as trying to replace my Digitizer only to find that the LCD was stuck to it too. So as clever as i am (not) - i tried to remove the LCD off the digitizer - but that just ended up cracking it.
So i'm in the process of ordering a LCD with the digitizer - pre-stuck together (i hope!) - but my question is:
When i removed the digitizer off the front bezel, there was this spongy sort of double sided tape... i assume it was used for a reason and not just any ordinary double sided tape (presumably to allow a bit of leway between the digitizer and the bezel when pressure is applied to the touch screen)...
Any thoughts on what sort of tape this is? - here's some photos of my digitizer and the bezel:

I wish you had asked before you ordered the digitizer + LCD, since I ordered mine separately, and they seem to both working ok. The digitizer does not have to be glued to the LCD. But anyway, I just used plain old Gel superglue to glue the digitizer to the bezel. I used Gel superglue so it won't run into the electronics beneath. Things seems to work just fine now.
One thing to consider when you crack open the whole phone though. Be careful not to loose any part from within the phone, because apparently, I lost something, now my accelerometer doesn't work, and my screen doesn't rotate when you slide out the keyboard. Hope it works out for you!

Thanks for the advice adp9626! Well in summary I think I've just been messing about too much and being stupid really.
In the end, I managed to just remove the top part of the screen without actually having to break into the bottom section of the phone.
I was a bit concerned about the whole sticking of the LCD to the Digitizer part. I actually did purchase them separately, however I was not sure what kind of glue was used to stick them both together - as I recall it was a nightmare to try and remove the LCD off the old Digitizer.
So I returned both separate parts (got a full refund as I didn't use them) - and now I am looking to purchase both parts stuck together.
I'm waiting on the guy on eBay to confirm that they are both stuck together. I'm also thinking of using double sided sticky tape to stick the Digitizer back to the inner bezel...
So that's the final plan! I've been a bit silly in rushing with ordering parts etc. but I just want to be on the safe side now - well - at least with the LCD stuck to the Digitizer part.
I will take your advice on the gel superglue if the double sided sticky tape doesn't prove it's stickyness!

Edit: I wanted to add that they're are slightly used so there will be scratches. The one i received is a little more scratched than my original then again the scratches aren't noticeable when the back light is on and you're getting a working screen.
Just my experience, I had a faulty LCD, digitizer was OK. Bought a replacement LCD off ebay, delivered from China but only cost me £20 inc delivery. Arrived with tools as well (T5, T6, philiips, and pry tool). Followed a couple of disassembly instructions online, took me a while to get all apart but managed it. None of the instructions online go through actually taking the screen out, I thought I'd messed it up as I took the back half of the LCD off and left the front bit on, and I couldnt get it off at first. I ended up using a very sharp scalpel to slide between the LCD and digitizer and got them apart eventually, as I didnt realise that they were glued.
Anyway, I just placed the screen on, no glue as there is a ring of sticky tape around the back of the digitizer which holds the screen in. Connected everything back in the end and its working fine. Only prob is I think I damaged the power/standby button, so be careful when around this area.
Touch Screen not responding after replacement
Recently, I replaced a glass screen on a SGH-M919 Galaxy S4. Previously, during the process of cleaning the glue residues off the LCD screen; I rubbed it with rubbing alcohol and it removed a small streak of the adhesive glue off left side of LCD screen and bottom right corner. After installed the new glass screen, I noticed a few spots of the glass screen wasn't sticking onto the sticky layer. So it looked like it has big air bubble between the glass screen and LCD. And I could see the rubbed off streak on the LCD screen. Everything worked fine with the new glass screen, with the exception of seeing the streak and bottom right corner rubbed off.
A few days ago, I had a table clock fell on top of the phone and broke a piece of glass. Nothing happened to the LCD screen and still functional 100%. So I got a replacement glass screen - the same as the first time replacement. With noticing of the rubbed off streak and corner of the adhesive layer on the LCD screen - I decided to rub off all of the adhesive layer from the LCD. I sprayed some Goof Off liquid on the adhesive layer and left it over night. Next morning I continued scraping off the glue with a small plastic card. Cleaned off all glue residues and examined the LCD screen for any scratches or damage. There was none. Re-installed new glass screen - but now the touch screen does not respond to the touching on the icons. Only the Home, Menu & Back touch button work. I was baffled after this.
Could it be that because I left some the Goof Off liquid on top of the LCD screen over night and it might have leaked to the other side and shorted out something? I saw a few forums that suggested a Factory Reset. I did that - but still didn't work. Please advise on what I need to do to fix this problem.

LCD digitizer replacement.. now black screen
I saw the for replacing the LCD-digitizer of my nexus 4 phone, and followed the steps carefully. After I placed the battery, I checked to see if the phone turns ON and the display is working before I complete the last step of putting the back coverplate. I successfully switched it ON, saw a perfectly working screen, and browsed through my apps. To complete the assembly, I put the back cover by gently pressing the frame along the edges, but suddenly I saw some yellow green lines in the middle of the screen. I switched it off and again switched in ON, but now the entire screen had light with no display.
To fix this, I tried again checking all connections but no luck. What could be the reason for the sudden loss of display when it worked perfectly fine moments ago? Is there a possibility that I damaged the LCD while putting the back cover on the phone?
I am also not sure about one of the ribbon connectors of the digitizer. There are 2 big ones which are prominent and has ports to connect. However, there is a little third one which also has to come through the gap but doesn’t connect anywhere. Has anyone also experienced this while replacing the screen? Any help will be appreciated.
I'm trying to find a source on whether I can replace the trim know my phone since it's been dinged from the previous owner as well as myself.
I've found some the link to the replacement screen thread but it doesn't say if the lcd is part of the top or how to get it out? I've seen some oem housings online but not sure if I can remove my lcd which is fine and put it in the newer housing?
Is there glue or adhesive that holds it in?

You just need to unscrew the backplate and exchange it.
No glue no adhesives or something. it just sits there.
It will take about 10 minutes or so..

Sorry - but I think we have a misunderstanding. I'm talking about the chrome trim around the entire LCD not the camera.
oh.. honestly i don´t think that the part you described is chrome. Atleast not on my GSII
and the thing i posted is the shiny ring around the headphone plug.
OP its not chrome its plastic..
1) replace the whole screen housing with with working parts from say ebay
2) buy a whole SGS2 housing unit and plus top screen ( this option you'll need to remove youe current lcd screen and once replaced in new housing the top screen needs to be bonded to housing. (M3 double sided tape or a thin silcon glue)
3) take it to a service centre
4)keep it as it is..
as par your question

Hi guys,
I have just broken my Dinc2's glass screen. The underlying LCD screen is still functional and the touch screen works. So, I am guessing that I only broke the glass on the top of the screen... I uploaded pics to make it clear.
The casing near the USB port got bent some time back when I went kayaking... And I think that is where the screen cracked significantly when I dropped the phone.
I can still use the touchscreen and there are no discoloration on the LCD. So, can you guys suggest to me what Screen replacement product I need to buy online and (preferably) give me a link for said product and a How to repair guide. Plus, is this process easy? As in if I spend a few hours carefully following the steps to repair, will I succeed?? Moreover, can I replace the metal casing as well?

So I have dust under my screen even though my phone is completely original and never been dropped. Do you think it's worth taking apart, cleaning out, and replacing the adhesive? How long do you think it would take, and what is the likelihood of doing more damage to the phone?

I actually just finished doing this a few hours ago. It does take some time to do it but if you have patience you can do it
You have to remove the LCD to remove the digitizer, so you will have all the parts out of the body of the phone. It is easier if you replace the body because it comes with new adhesive already perfectly cut and installed. If you reuse the old one you will have to scrape all the old adhesive off, then cut new adhesive. They are also available in red/silver/black so you can change colors.

That is what I was referring to as the body, since all the parts attach to it. I actually got an entire new housing, came with the bezel, the middle part, and a new battery cover since my battery cover was beat up and I was changing colors. The middle part I didn't need but it was cheaper to buy all 3 parts than just 2.
I got it on ebay. The Incredible 2 and the Incredible S housing parts are interchangeable. I ended up getting S parts because they were cheaper. Most of the ebay sellers are in China so shipping takes 1-2 weeks depending on the seller. Repairsuniverse is good if you want it fast, I ordered from them once and got the part in 2 days.

I wanted to know if there is a detailed how to. Anyway, managed to take it apart. All guides end at taking it apart and say, "well, now you know how to dissemble it, just go in reverse and assemble it. Well. I wish they don't do that and show me through the reverse just to avoid mistakes. I remember having to redo IKEA furniture due to missing a few parts. Don't wanna do this messy procedure and realize I forgot a button or worst still putting the screen on!
Anyway, I am a grad student with a bachelors in Engineering... I should be ashamed if I can't do this! :silly:
repairsuniverse has a guide on youtube for replacing the digitizer. I found it easy to follow. Only difference is when you put it back together put the parts in the new body. You will also have to pull the speaker out of the old body and put it in the new. It is held in by glue, heat it with a hairdryer/heatgun and it comes out pretty easily. You might need to use some new adhesive on the speaker, I was able to pull the old adhesive out of the body in one piece using a hairdryer and some tweezers.

I am 100% done with the repair. But there are a few issues. The Vibrator motor seems to be not working. Then, the Digitizer I bought doesn't have a hole for the front facing camera! That is not a major setback as I rarely use it and I have a tablet and a PC to skype chat with... But it is sad that a feature is missing.
The big issue is the vibrator not working. I didn't mangle it and put it back in place as I am supposed to. Finally, I have 1 or 2 small dust particles under the screen and that is ok. I couldn't remove all the dust and it is a miracle I managed to get it that clean. Finally I seem to have a slight green tint/screen bleed at top left corner. I didn't have that before and I didn't distort the LCD while replacing. Is it due to a smudge on the LCD there? I suppose it is a minor issue and not something that will amplify as I have a Transformer prime that has screen bleeds and it is apparently because the screws are too tight.. So may be I tightened something too much? Anyway, if it doesn't deteriorate I am ok, as it is a very, very minor problem.
So, bottom line: Main problems > (1) No FFC (due to improper digitizer) -> I don't intend to fix it. (2) Vibrator motor not working.
Can someone help me with 2?

That is odd it didn't have a spot for the front camera. I replaced my digitizer and it has a clear spot for it but it is not even close to centered. It actually looks like it would obstruct the camera but it doesn't. If you take it apart again for some reason you can scrape the black off the back so it is clear. However, it is very hard to do that and make it look decent.
Getting it perfect with no dust between the lcd and digitizer is very very hard to do. As for the bleeding I wouldn't think you could cause it from pressure in the inc2 because the lcd and digitizer are just held on the front by adhesive. Is the two tone color combination looking sweet, or should I change the back to red as well? I have a spare black back cover. If anyone has a spare red back cover, I can trade!

Is the smudge bad? I think it is just a smudge on the LCD and not a damage to the LCD right? In that case, I am cool, as I most likely will cause other smudges if I attempt to redo it anyway. Plus, I am kinda bummed out about the lack of FFC, but I hardly use it and the whole process of removing the screen is SOOO tedious (and I don't have a heat gun, so had to put my phone a feet above a gas burner! ) and it was so painful and stomach wrenching to safely remove the LCD/digitizer that I don't wish to do it again to repair the FFC...

I think the two tone looks good since the red phones have all black accents. I thought it was weird that the speaker on the red phone is silver, while all the other accents are black.
There seems to be a problem with the adhesive. The digitizer is raised by about 1 millimeter at the top while it is attached better at the bottom. I think it is because I had an additional horizontal strip of adhesive at the bottom to attach the digitizer to both the LCD and the buttons firmly while I didn't put such a horizontal strip at the top as I didn't see one when I dissembled it. If I put pressure on the digitizer for a while, it sets back in place for about half a day. Is this a serious problem? I don't feel like dissembling again.

I just broke my screen and im looking to go the same route. This is a good phone to have as a back up after i get my upgrade and i dont want to get rid of it.
Anyway, did you need all those parts to successfully change your screen? I thought if you bought a new housing you would not need the adhesive tape?
First of all i take no credit for this discovery or process. If anyone wants credit for this information just MSG me with a reference and i will be more than happy to add you. However i looked around and the information was all scattered so i figured i'de add it all in one easy to follow post. Most of the info i found was thru youtube and a couple of my own added ideas.
This is a how to remove , separate , and replace a cracked
S3 screen from the digitizer by melting/softening the adhesive glue (in other words it is how to replace JUST THE GLASS)
Many people out there still say that the S3 's glass can not be separated from the digitizer and that the digitizer and glass but be bought "fused" together from OEM..this is not true. It can indeed be separated using the the process below and it will work just fine and be just as responsive as when you first bought the phone. Video Proof below.

This is how i replaced my screen and tools needed:
***Lots of Patience and carefulness *** (about 30 mins if u done before...about 60-90 mins if its your 1st time)
*** wear PROTECTIVE GOGGLES - EYE GLASSES (yes there is a HIGH POSSIBILITY that small glass shards may fly and glass in the eye is not fun)***
1) replacement screen - with no digitizer (exact pictures of what u need to buy are the pictures above..just match your color) ($25 USD aprox on Amazon - Cheaper on Ebay $18 USD) (The same screen fits all models just match the color...Samsung Galaxy S3 III T-mobile SGH-T999 / AT&T SGH-i747 / Verizon SCH-i535 / Sprint SPH-L710 / US Cellular SCH-R530 / GT-i9300)
2) exacto knife ($5 USD aprox)
3) heat gun ($20(harborfreight) for a cheapy....or $40 (homedepot) for a good one with adjustable heat)
***** HEAT IS CRITICAL, most people faill because they did not heat up the glass enough ( MUST BE around 180F)****
4) empty cereal box or cardboard calendar (or something similar that is comparable in sturdiness yet is "not too solid")
5) 90% rubbing alcohol ( $3.. make "damp" on a microfiber cloth or cotton ball (cotton-ball kinda makes a mess) removes any excess glue stuck to the digitizer)
6) microfiber cloth (available from .99 cent stores or dollar stores)
7) tweezers (.99 cent store ...or your moms/girlfriends/wife's beauty box..LoL)
OPTIONAL TOOLS BUT HELPS ALOT
*** an extra hand or two (1 or 2 more people helping is a big help)
*** laser thermometer (to make sure u do not overheat the phone, try to stay under 200F degrees with an average of about 180F degrees, slightly going over 200 does not hurt but i do not recommend)
*** thick leather gloves/welding gloves (prevents your hands from getting burned while someone else is heating the phone and maintaining the temp u can be easily removing the screen...at 180 degrees the glue and glass separate from the digitizer like BUTTER and the gloves protect you from getting burned by the heatgun!!!)
***Magnifying glass (to be able to make sure the glass fragments are completely removed from the digitizer so the new screen will sit flush)
*** thin latex/rubber gloves (when putting on the screen so there are no finger prints)
*** duck tape (hold glass together so it doesn't "fall apart" while removing)
Instructions on how i did it below:
Remove the battery , sim card, micro sdcard. Apply ductape or some kinda of good heat resistant tape to the top of the glass screen so the broken glass stays intact when removing. Put on your safety glasses/eye protection (believe me i highly recommend this regardless of how dorky you may look, if glass from the phone goes in your eye ...well you have been warned). Grab the exacto bladed and lightly apply pressure with it between the glass and the outer grey plastic trim and then outline the entire outer edge of the glass. Put on some heat resistant gloves (gloves that u wont feel the burn) Heat up your heatgun and heat the phones screen to around 180 Degrees Fahrenheit ...you can know the temp by using a laser thermometer (try not to go over 200 degrees). NOTE: U must remove the glass when its at around this temp, failure to do so will make it hard to remove the glass from the digitizer. Try to heat the entire phone evenly by using a "circular" or "side to side" type of motion when applying the heat. Find the outer edge of the glass and find a place in the corner to begin the removal. I recommend beginning on the top left side of the phone (where the S in SAMSUNG side of the corner) is at. Once the phone is heated to approx 180 degrees you can begin to lift the glass. (i do not recommend lifting in the middle of the screen or any "black part" of the screen as you can risk damaging the digitizer, the outer edge (where it is white/blue) is the safest spot to begin separation.) If you don't have access to a laser thermometer then you can risk it and just take your time till you notice the glass begins to "lift/separate" . Once you have a decent amount of the glass lifted (just enough to put the cardboard in) you can shove a piece of the cereal box inside and begin to use the cereal box to lift the rest of the glass. Continue this processes till the glass is all lifted and removed. When you start approaching the bottom of the phone where the button is at BE CAREFUL...try to go around the bottom and you will also notice 2 " touch ribbon light sensors"(look at the attachment pictures BELOW i labeled the light/ribbon sensor). They can removed from the glass using the heat gun and the exacto knife...it should lift right up and separate from the glass. Once u separate the ribbon your should be all done removing or close to done removing the glass from the digitizer. If by this point you haven't already removed the glass continue to remove till all the major pieces of glass is removed. Once the major pieces of glass are removed you can now put on some latex gloves and Remove the excess glass on the corners using the exacto knife and the tweezers. Carefully remove the small pieces of glass on the digitizer using a 90% alcohol LIGHTLY DAMPENED microfiber cloth. DO NOT APPLY HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE DIGITIZER when tiny glass is still on there (instead just kind of gently sweep it...using a new paint brush might even help) when removing the small glass fragment, NOTE that if you do apply too much pressure to the digitizer u risk the glass shards scratching or denting the digitizer!!! Once the glass is all removed and shards are gone you can now clean any fingerprints lint dust or oils using a dry microfiber cloth by gently applying LIGHT/SOFT pressure. Leave the glue on the outside edges of the phone and the bottom and top of the phone...just make sure the digitizer is spotless. Once everything is clean and the digitizer is spotless you can now install the screen. start from the bottom of the phone and proceed to put on the screen, make sure the "push" button is lined up and the line up the "light-sensor-ribbons buttons". the sensor ribbon buttons should just stick to the glass and line up with the screen part. Once the button is lined up you can now line up the rest of the screen and gently push down. The screen should be stuck into place by the existing glue on the outer edges. While holding the screen in place carefully put the battery in and turn on the device and make sure the buttons and screen and everything works properly and make sure the "lights" on the menu buttons work. Once you verify everything works and looks beautiful you can take the battery out one last time. Using the heatgun reheat the screen to melt the adhesive glue to the screen. Once the screen is heated back up to 180 degrees gently push on the glass and press for about 10 seconds and make sure to press in the outter edges of the glass where u left the glue. Let the phone cool off and you are good to go. Have fun using your S3!! This sounds fairly long and hard, but its not as hard as it sounds..its actually fairly easy and should take the average person about 50-70 mins first time. Experienced person about 20-40 mins.

Q1) How do i know if its just my glass screen and not the phone itself that's not working?
You will know if your phone screen lens cracked, but LCD display works. In other words you will know that its just the glass that's broken if your phone currently works perfectly fine and the touch screen works fine BUT the only thing wrong with the phone is the screen being physically cracked/scratched. If this is your case then the instructions above will work on replacing the glass.

It might but I wouldn't try it... You would have to get the adhesive glue really soft and it may work, but the scary part is that if the adhesive isn't soft you risk damaging the digitizer using that tool. For me a cereal box worked great when separating it.
hey guys on my phone, where the glass is slowly coming off at the bottom right, you can see the bare screen, with glue residue. When heating it up, does the glass just come off. Also when you attach the new glass, can you not see the glue residue inbetween the screen and the glass? Here is an attached photo of my phones current state. It looks pretty bad, but the screen is fully functional. Any help is appreciated!

first of all the link to your picture doesn't work.
Now on to what u were asking....when heating it up the glass doesn't just "come off" or "peel off" or "fall off" .... you have to separate the glass from what you call "bare screen" (i assume u are talking about the digitizer) with a flat sturdy piece of cardboard (like a piece of a cereal box) or something similar. if heated around 180 degreee the glass should come off (separate from digitizer) very easily literally feels like cutting butter with cardboard.
you should not see any "glue residue" inbetween the glass and the screen..u are supposed to remove the glue "residue"/adhesive from the BLACK part of the screen using rubbing alcohol DAMP microfiber cloth. just remove it from the black screen area and leave the glue on the outer edges (where the white part of the glass is) so the new glass has something to stick to.
if u fix your pic or have any other questions maybe i can help u out more.

u must have had a broken digitizer too or you have "adhesive glue" stuck in between the glass and the digitizer preventing the screen from sensing your touch. btw: if you have a broken digitizer you might as well just get a whole new phone as a digitizer is very expensive (around $200 USD) for the S3.

its hard to explain, but the digitizer is the next part directly behind the glass screen, normally if u buy the digitizer the glass screen comes with it. (however if u buy the glass screen it generally just comes with the glass screen and no digitizer) <--- i hope this makes sense
i should have taken a picture of mine when i had it apart. the closest picture i could find was this one below that has BOTH the SCREEN & the DIGITIZER, most people just need the glass screen. However if your screen doesnt sense your touches then u need the digitizer too.

the bare digitizer by iteself looks almost like a LCD touch screen but i couldnt find a picture of one online.

sorry but your english translation is not making sense to me...pretty much if the touchscreen still works then all u need is the glass, if your touchscreen doesn't work then u need the digitizer and the glass

the touchscreen will work just fine without the "glue" (special adhesive), i actually removed it and cleaned it all up and just left some of it on the outter edge, u just have to make sure there is a little bit of that "glue /' residue" around the OUTER EDGE of the glass (the outer edge behind the white/blue/red part of the glass) to make sure the glass STICKS to the phone.

And lastly, you have now exactly the same feeling and look as original? i.e screen is flush to bezel, no cracking noises, no evident spacing in between glass and digitizer?

Heres my glass I replaced today. it wasnt easy and it wasn't too difficult. I been fixing phones for a while so take your time if you Want To replace your glass. and make sure you heat up the glass real good. It helps a lot. And make sure you clean up the residue left from the glue real good. if you don't your phones screen won't work correctly.

How do you set the new screen? Do I need to buy double sided LCD tape?
I see you got it out in one piece. Did you tape it down before heating?

I used reg clear tape on the screen to make sure it stayed in one piece. And I also had double sided tape they sell for the screens itself. I cut diff shapes and to make sure the screen stayed on. Where you see the clamps is where I put the tape to make sure it stays on.

So you need tape then right? There's no way to stick it with existing? I just want to make sure I'm prepared lol.

My phone did a face plant but the digitizer still works.. fingerprint scanner and touches all over phone are still responding.
The glass alone is about $20 but the full screen is about $120.
Screen only replacement is very difficult since u mist get the glue to release the glass from the digitizer without damaging it
I've delaminated Droid Maxx to replace the glass. Lots of careful work with a heat gun and spudger. The new glass had to be bonded back. If you don't, the reflections make the screen pretty unusable and the glass fragile to breaking again. To much heat and you fry the LCD.

Good luck on seperation the digitizer from the glass without breaking the digitizer, it's super thin and unless you have the correct tools and glue forget it.
Trust me I have replaced my screen twice now which in itself was extremely hard.
Do not use double sided tape but the correct adhesive is need something like B7000.

I need to heat the glass with a heat gun in order to separate the glass from the phone, moto has pack in loads of adhesive so you need to heat and seperate the glass slowly, the finger print scanner is taped to the under side of the digitizer, so be carefully.
You can not use double sided tape to remount the glass screen nor can you use the existing adhesive, buy new adhesive. You'll find it on eBay or Amazon.

I've been at it for over 2-1/2 hours. got the glass off in 2 pieces without doing any damage to the lcd, or so I thought, before permanently adhering the new glass I reconnected the panel and found about 1/3 of the bottom is dead. I cannot see any damage but it has to be something that happened while removing the glass.
oh well.
as an aside, I did not pay attention when I removed the 2 ribbon cables as to how far into the socket they go. there is a stripe on each, but neither go in quite that far, maybe within a 1/16", is this correct?
I also noticed on the lcd top, opposite to the video cable there is another connector about the same size as the one for the button, any idea what that is for?

There's the top ribbon only and the slides in if you slide the plastic retainer back on the ribbon connector. Its on the far left side

There's also the front flash light on the far left , be very careful cause it breaks really easy, mine did and said F##k it I don't take selfies anyways.
