[Q] unlock lock screen - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

has anyone here been able to unlock a pin locked screen? I changed my pin and forgot it. I own this Sprint galaxy S3, i can verify that with a sprint rep and account. How can I unlock the screen without a hard reset?
No, I dont get the option to enter my gmail account to unlock.
thanks,
jc

May take a couple tries, so set aside a good amount of time to unlock it.

tried it, over 40 times, not luck. is there any other way?
one youtube video shows using a site calld FGM service and for a fee, if you give them your IME number they will unlock the phone. Anyone here tried this before or know about this service?

I would not give any info to anyone, if it were me. As for other ways, I dont know of any but the method in the link above worked for me when I tested it on my sisters S3

Just throwing this out there no idea if it will work but I'm guessing it would if worse comes to worse. Flash the a stock or rooted tar in Odin from freeza.

That true. OP, go into recovery, and make a backup
Then ODIN to stock rooted and restore your data...should work

Thanks for the help but I'm a noob, this is my first smart phone. Are there any write ups or links to how to do recovery/backup, ODIN, restore?

You're in luck, my friend. Our mighty qbking77 has created a set of videos with just what you need in his thread over here. They are easy to follow. The main thread on how to root is here. Just watch and read all you can before starting, and make sure not to use international ROMs on your Sprint phone (this causes a hard-brick and many facepalms here on XDA)

thanks for the help so far but just tried and got stuck again.
Question, I got into the "Android system recovery <3e>" menu and the back-up option is not listed.....
Is there another way to back-up? or am I out of luck and have to do a hard reset from same menu?

You can root it through ODIN (in download mode) and then flash a recovery

[Q] sony noob. feel stupid...

ok guys i just picked up a play for att. sucks cause i have tmobile and wont get the 3/4g data. im almost always in wifi spots anyway so no big deal.
anyway i have already called att and got the phone sim unlocked. now if i think i understand this correctly this should be the order to follow. if you guys can confirm and provide latest links i would appreciate greatly.
1. sim unlock (done)
2. unlock bootloader (not yet)
3. root (not yet)
4. load rom (not yet)
correct??? did i miss anything? any preferred method on any of these? please advise.
thanks!!!
First of all, if you bought a xperia PLAY, you should probably post in the xperia PLAY forums.
Second of all, questions go in the Q & A forum.
To answer your question, that's pretty much the right order.

For img flash you can use flashtool.
You don't need root or anything to use flashtool on your phone.
Just pick correct .ftf for your phone and flash it to the phone.

If you were rooted before you don't need to re-root unless you purposely unrooted it. IF you aren't rooted anymore superoneclick or the zergrush(however it's spelled) is the easiest. I'm 99% sure you don't have an unlocked bootloader though, so you have very few options. I'd say re-root if you need to and unlock your bootloader so you can flash flash and flash custom roms like crazy

You need to pay Setool credits in order to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to lose the sin lock as well, so you could have killed two birds with the same stone.

ya i just found the website. seems like thats the one everyone is sent to on this site.
im wondering now that im rooted if i can clean this stock rom up enough to use on a daily basis. i mean im using tmobile on the device so sharing internet would only be edge lol. i guess the only thing i really want ics for is that fact that its ics.
open the dial pad and use this code*#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration".
If it says unlock bootloader = no, then you have to use the paid service, if yes, then you can do it for free yourself.

Thanks, but the first thing I do is search, and search. I ran into brick walls and nothing clear. All I needed was a link to the right place, not lesson on how to use search. Rooted and flashed many roms in the years I have been doing this, just never went back to stock. But lucky for me, I do have some friends that are more experienced and was able to get me back to stock.

Start here and follow the intructions to get back stock recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992303
You will also have to flash your firmwire in odin(scroll down to section 5) to get the stock software which your phone came with, make sure you select the right one depending on your phone:

BIG Noob Questions
Hi, I am unfamiliar with Samsung Phones. I currently have a LG phone without all this stuff about variants. I have a Rogers phone but I am unlocking it to run on Telus. That said can I run a Telus rooted firmware? Or does it not really matter what firmware is on the phone. Is it worth while to update the radio?
Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any answers that you can give.

DMF1977, I tried your way. I downloaded Odin and root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.tar. As soon as I loaded the root66 file, I didn't even get a chance to hit start, both times Odin froze. Then I saw "Check MD5....Do not unplug the cable...Please wait". I had no choice but to shut my phone down because Odin froze and wasn't doing anything. I tried it twice. Then after I unplugged and shut my phone down I saw this in the box " root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.tar.md5 is valid. Checking MD5 finished successfully. Leave CS..."
I remember last year having a problem with Odin conflicting with something on my laptop when I rooted my Captivate. I ended up having to root it a different way.

Did you try and flash the S6 file (non-edge file) to root your phone? For many that corrects what looks to be a bricked phone.
I did the same thing the OP had done, referring to enabling KNOX prior to rooting, and none of anyone's suggestions through the past multiple days have worked. Enabling "KNOX" under the "Security"
settings is a big no-no, or so it seems from the few that have done it. Might be worth somebody making a thread just letting people know NOT to do that if they don't wish for an expensive brick until a stock ODIN tar surfaces. It makes the phone bootloop and useless even when using the regular S6 autoroot tar. It's also interesting how nobody answered the OP's actually question, though. "Is there an actual stock ODIN tar for this phone yet?" I would like to know the same, even though my own research has come up negatory thus far. Focus on the dude's question rather than waste time with other suggestion(s) which they likely already know haven't worked.

So when rooting a T-Mo Edge first time, we should use the std S6 (SM-G920T) autoroot file, and not the file listed for the edge?

I want to thank you for at least getting me back to a recovery mode screen that is readable and starts with the normal icon, that says updating system. I still need to wait for the stock SM-G925T firmware file for the S6 Edge to get back to a working phone. Deleting knox files as I stated in a few threads here is a big no no for now. Just get that bootloop on startup and this has nothing to do with rooting. Is the deleted files. Samsung support confirmed this too. I did try the factory reset which basically wiped the phone of info, which is no big deal. Plenty of backups. Just need the darn tar file for this model. I'm sure it will be out soon.
BTW, I was having issues getting on to any web link site Sammobile.

You are still unable to get Kies to work? Did you watch my Video and follow those steps? If you are still having trouble, let me know. Might be a driver issue or something.

I want to publically thank you for your superb and timely help. What's funny is I'm on a MAC desktop and the Kies Mac version would not connect to my phone even though I have the drivers already on the computer. I use Parallels to boot to a Windows 8 virtual setup. Kies gave me the unsupported device message I think, but after going to the tools menu and following the instructions on the video, all went well. The only nit pick is I believe the Kies program called it the recovery mode to boot into, but they used the correct button combo to actually be in download mode for this to work.
Anyways....much thanks and for all those waiting for stock firmware for the Edge to magically appear, which I'm sure it will eventually, this method works. Word of advice to all.....go into your settings and about device and write down your serial number since it's required when inputting the model number. TMobile and Samsung incorrectly kept telling me the serial number is the same as the IME. IT'S NOT. And that number is NOT on the box labeling either. So without the serial number of your device KIES won't work for this firmware restore. A simple thank you to the person that know, for helping me with that aspect.

Thank you for this, and thank you for letting others know about the correct serial number used.
For anyone in the same situation, you CAN borrow a serial number from another device to get the download started just as Docmjldds and I did here. I gave him mine, and the download proceeded as normal. After the phone is flashed, it still retains the correct factory serial that came with your phone.

You can also get the serial number from download mode. When you first boot into dl mode and you get the warning page press the home button and the IMEI and SN (serial number) are both there with a bar code.

Successful Root - Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Just one drawback...

Hello all,
I was testing and fooling around with my Note 4 SM-910A when I tried rooting my phone again. (Manually) and I did something different giving me root and the bootloader now shows the Custom (unlocked) symbol. Meaning, that I got root and my bootloader was unlocked. Here is some proof:
imgur (DOT) com/2qjJmWs
But there is one catch to it.
You get bricked. AT&T sees that you are rooted and you cannot use your phone unless you restore it to stock or you take it to AT&T store and they will do it for you.
Also you get a : SECURE = FAIL on your scree.
When I got this root, I made an account quickly and then I posted. This is the biggest day for me. I'm gonna try and see if I can bypass the SECURE = FAIL and make it into SECURE = I DON'T EVEN CARE!

Dude, no kidding this just happened to me like 10 minutes ago. I'll be going to AT&T store, like the phone said. I will see what they do.
If you look into the root progress forum, a couple of us has had the same thing happen. I am hoping that some devs are looking into this. I know how to do this every time now and have to unbrick my phone every time.

Look into this here.
I have done this more than 10 times trying various root procedures to stick on reboot. I'm sure there are A LOT of other that have had this happen also. It's not new.
What a troll. New user sign up, 1st post said ROOTED. LOL

Bro, not a troll. My note 4 is now permanently bricked. The os was deleted by the bootloader. I took it to Att and they say that it is permanently bricked. Hard-bricked. Gonna send it to samsung or go to another att store to see wut happenes.
No. No. No. Nonononono
I hope you didn't send it in yet.

Download needed files and don't forget about Odin program.
As I stated earlier, I have done this over 10 times trying various root methods to stick. If you weren't so noobish in thinking AT&T was going to help you...maybe you could read around on these awesome forums and figure it out for yourself... but alas, you can lead a horse to water, blah blah blah...

I had the same thing happen to me. King root app popped & asked me to try again so I did. (Stupid me) I tried everything I know how to fix this.. In recovery mode I told phone to wipe data factory reset. Still pops up after reboot stating kernal is not seaddroid enforcing then says secure fail kernel and had large yellow triangle saying system software not authorized by at&t has been found etc. Turn off and take to at&t store.
Anyone know how to fix this or have I ruined the phone?

Wow. Don't be lazy. Not cool dude. I did read the whole post and I am trying what was listed. Anyway I wanted to add that my phone has never been rooted. I have tried Kingroot many times with no success. I am running Lollipop 5.1.1 which is locked by AT&T so I am curious if bootloader is locked how this happened or how I will be able to fix this. I will continue to read as I have been doing prior to being called lazy. I have yet to see anyone else state they were running the same OS I am.

The files mentioned in my previous post are the 5.1.1 OS files. I have used them multiple times to recover from a soft-brick. So, YES, I have the same OS Lollipop as you should have. AT&T has locked the bootloader on the Note 4 from the beginning. But in 4.4.4 you could temp-root in order to get rid of some files. But results are so different from phone to phone that a temp-root scenario is complicated to explain. Some work some dont. KINGROOT is also in the same boat, might or not work. You might be able to keep your phone from rebooting or it might freeze and you HAVE to pull the battery. When the battery gets pulled and reboots SOMETIMES you can reboot to a temp-rooted phone, MOST OF THE TIME it soft bricks. All of this information is in either of the posts I linked earlier, so either you're lazy, or you don't understand what you're reading. If you don't understand, then please READ, SEARCH, and RESEARCH.

I was concerned to load the files because I did not see anyone who was not rooted and running my OS. I installed them and all is well. Thank you again.

The sad part is that it cleans the whole system. So starting from scratch everytime is a drag.

It helped me as well. Just download the package and use ODIN and you are back in buisness. Btw, all your personal data is gone bye bye though, I will be like a having a brand new phone again.
Take care.

1) Not a troll. Just someone not knowing what they're doing.
2) ATT reps don't even know the difference between a locked sim and locked bootloader, so they wouldn't know the difference between a hard and soft brick.
3) All you had to do was use Odin to fix the phone. You just traded your phone for a factory refurbished one. Good job!
4) Read the latest forum posts before doing things.

Hey guys. Thought I'd chime in with a little insight here. Had someone call me the other day that tried to root one, and ended up with the same unauthorized software error. Couldn't get to download mode, couldn't get to recovery, couldn't get phone to boot. He took it to AT&T, where they of course told him the phone was "hard bricked". I just used a usb jig and restored it with odin. Did just fine.
This is the jig I used. It was $4.92 on eBay

You wasted $4.92 on ebay, All you got to do is download USB Driver for your phone and install it on your computer. Once this is done, your computer we recognize your soft bricked phone and you can use Odin to reload the firmware.
