Encrypted phone?
I just tried to root my phone and realize that the NRT may not work because my phone is encrypted. Does this root method use the SDcard to stage the root install?
I have used NRT in the past and it was quick and easy. Now, I am think that I previously rooted before encrypting my phone.
Help? Thanks.

[UI] GN Fastboot Flasher[v1.5.0][27/7]

I'm proud to present you the GN Fastboot Flasher (GNFF)
I love the simplicity and the convenience of Odin, but it's close source and also there a few files to flash with Odin. So I decided to create an Odin-like app, but for using with fastboot.
Remember that this app is in Beta stage may not be a complete and safe way of flashing. By using this software, you accept its danger.
This app only works on Windows. I have no plan to distribute it to Linux/Mac. The reason is clear, I know nothing from coding on Linux/Mac .Also I'm sure there are lots of work to do in the windows version.
GNFF Functions:
Flashing boot.img, zImage, zip file containing zImage
Flashing radio, bootloader, recovery, system
Flashing stock image files (.tgz)
Flashing stock image files automatically by downloading from Google servers
To do:
Add other options, like unlocking bootloader - Done
Make logging better and complete - Done
Add other languages
Bugs:
You say!
Changelog:
Version 1.5.0:
Fixed image downloading problem.
Added ability to update the program(Wait till the next version).
Added a part named "Addons".
Added ability to unlock/lock the bootloader.
Added Console to execute commands using adb and fastboot.
Some aesthetic changes.
Added support for JB ROMs.
Now you can inter "Custom" for your current ROM, and GNFF will download and install the latest official ROM.
Added a button to clear the log.
New icon.
Added abiliy to use drag & drop for flashing files.
Adding ability to use "open with..." for flashing files
Version 1.0.2:
Added an option to download and flash stock images from Google servers
Added an option to reboot to bootloader
Fixed the bug that was causing the log part don't be scrollable
Now GNFF doesn't let stop the flashing progress using repressing "Start" button
Version 1.0.1:
Added bootloader control, now it doesn't flash anything on devices with locked bootloader.
Added zImage control, now it gives an error in the log section when the zip file doesn't contain a zImage.
Added some more log informations.
Version 1.0.0:
Initial version
Sources:
To be honest, I'm not pro in using Git and publishing open source apps. Anyway I pushed them to github. You can compile them using AMS.

Super cool idea. So we can use this app to install latest stock images from Google. Could we install also Cwm images ( is this the recovery part)?

That option is for flashing recovery image files.
I think the potential for this app is really great. It could be used for senarios like:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) update image
3) install an image with root

By the way nice work there.
this app is great but how to use it ?
i tried many time but the app said my phone wasn't connected,
but it shown connected in android.
please release the tutorial mate.

Have you installed adb drivers ? If not that's the issue . Boot in to bootloader ( power off the device - press volume up + down + power button ) then it'll ask for adb drivers . You can find the gnex adb drivers from googling .
After installing drivers , you are good to go .
.. Beamed Directly Via GNEX ..
file is no longer available...

First off thanks a ton for making this, I feel obliged to donate because you make this whole process a breeze. So I went back to rooted stock 4.2.2, and now I want to flash a custom rom. When i go to flash the zips to my gnex it says this can't be done while i'm on the "any build" option. Since there isn't a way to select 4.2.2 yet will it work if i select "custom rom (jb)" option?
EDIT: I just went back to 4.1.1 then flashed the rom (duh) btw AOKP build 6 works awesome so far.
v1.6.4 is now up and the update package is also live. Enjoy! ^_^

That's not a virus warning. Thats a legitimate warning. Its telling you that you have an incomplete download.. i.e the archive is corrupt. Redownload the toolkit and try installing it again. Make sure the file size matches what is posted on my webiste, or hashcheck it. Use a good browser and a stable connection to download files.
Edit: I see the virus warning now as well. Yes, that is a false positive, and you should report it to your AV provider - they will review it and add it their whitelist database - I have done this with many AV providers, but its difficult to keep sending them stuff for every release. But my original statement stands.. it looks like an incomplete download as well.

Hey Wug, thank you the response and thank you for taking the time to build the app, folks like you willing to put time into this stuff is a great thing. I worked through the driver install (both automatic and manual), and the troubleshooting, but didn't have any luck with the gui. I ended up tracking down manual root instructions and was able to get the phone rooted. Rooting my galaxy nexus was a lot easier than I remember rooting my Fascinate was.
Cheers and thanks!

Special credit and many thanks to @SuperR. for his great rom kitchen.
Please head over there and hit his thanks button!!!!!.
This is a pure stock MOB30W deodexed rom.
Rooted w/ Systemless SuperSU 2.76 thanks @Chainfire and Osmosis busybox included, thanks @osm0sis
No apps have been removed or updated.
Install:
1. Install MOB30W vendor image. Flash with TWRP or fastboot.
2. Recommend using latest bootloader --------> fastboot flash only.
3. Recommend using latest twrp 3.0.2
4. Make backup.
5. Install rom ---> enjoy.
Get Odexed Rom here.

For me.

Wrong it is rooted w/ SuperSU 2.52 and includes busy box. Please read the OP -- It's there!!!
Thank you, this is exactly what I prefer.
No need for GAPPS, other than install the APP directly from Google Play, right?
Would be also good for Xposed v78 too?

Yes right and I don't use Xposed but no reason for it not to work on stock deodexed. Let us know after you test. Thanks.
Wow. Great. Is it possible to get the same but not deodexed because of the speed?
So completely stock rooted?
Odexed rom added to OP.
Added odexed rooted rom w/ vendor and bootloader images included to the OP . Try it you will like it. Look to bottom of OP. :good::good:
@FormelLMS
You sir, are a gentleman! Thank you very much! I will download it later today!

Finally, stock rooted. Always had these on n7 from scrosler. Thanks fhem!
Thanks @fhem
The odexed version runs super smooth. Install went fine!
Hope, I can do this myself in future.

Apologies if this is a noob question. My Nexus 9 just came out the box and is still on 5.0. I know how to root and install TWRP, done already.
I don't understand the step in this threat about flashing the bootloader and factory image first. The link takes me to the full, stock rom. Do I have to flash the full unrooted 6.0 before I can flash this identical but rooted rom?

It's always best to learn how to use adb/fastboot to flash factory images. Download the MRA58N and unpack w/ 7zip. Then follow these instructions to fastboot flash the bootloader and vendor images. You only need to flash the bootloader and vendor images. Then you should move from bootloader to twrp and flash the rom. Hope this answers your question and helps you get started to flashing fun.

Perhaps I wrote my question hurriedly. I know how to use adb/fastboot to flash factory images. What I actually wanted to know was is it necessary to flash the whole factory image before flashing this full rom. I was hoping there was some simpler, shorter route like just flashing some updated firmware or bootloader. It doesn't really matter to me now because I went ahead and flashed the factory image, TWRP, and am now configuring this lovely rooted rom. But if you want to answer the question for anybody else that might be wondering the same thing by all means go ahead.
Can you please make these mods :
advanced reboot menu,
circle battery,
reverse menu button (recent, menu, back)
Thanks for your work

He did answer. You extract the bootloader and vendor images from the factory image and flash those. The link takes you to the factory image because you have to download it to extract those 2 things from it (bootloader and vendor img)
With the odexed rom you don't have to.
What benefits does deodexed roms have except they are slower?

Sorry. Currently I don't have any plans for modding stock rom. I use my aosp build for modding.

The main advantage of using a deodexed base rom is that it allows for more theming and modding.
Yeah, did some themes for years here on XDA. But don't know, that someone themes marshmallow roms.

You can use xposed and Gravitybox for that?
However, I have a quick question as well. Xposed (and Gravitybox) should run fine on the odexed Rom as well, right?
Thanks very much ahead and also for this rom, exactly what I was looking for!

Does this tool work well for Pixel XL2? If I wipe phone to unencrypt, will flashing stock re-encrypt it?

I think way early on it was established we can't have it unencrypted once the OS install it's completed, unless something changed or I got it wrong. Lol

You can uncrypt your phone but if you.flash a stock rom, the kernel at first boot will automatically encrypt your memory again. There are 2 different encryption, one by code and one with standard image key. At this moment the twrp will automatically uncrypt the system key but you need to manually write the code (if is setted). The tool will uncrypt both method, the flash of stock rom will re-uncrypt with system key but not with code key

Grazie.
Just got my Pixel 2XL the other day and am excited to root and start modding. I have been monitoring this thread just to see what issues people are running into but it looks like not many people are even doing this surprisingly. I mean that's why I bought this Google phone, so I don't have to deal with locked bootloaders that these carriers put in them to discourage rooting. I know this phone is also locked but it's not for the purpose of keeping people from rooting them. I just think that it's so odd that this thread has very little activity.

The device is very expensive, has dual partitions, has gotten a lot of bad press, and not near as Dev friendly as some others. Having said that, there are about 5 custom roms, root, exposed, substratum, and various launcher and active edge mods. So it's not like we're hurting too bad ??
