GT-N7105T - First Full Charge - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I just wanted to throw something out there...
Just got my shiny new Note 2, and its rad. But, just wanted a second opinion.
I'm aware that generally a Li-ion battery needs to be "conditioned" but usually you get a "fair" idea of battery life within a day or two. Now, had it for a day, on the day I got it, tried my multimedia dock for like 15 minutes...freaked out because I forgot it charges it too. Took it off...flattened the phone till it turned off and charged it, while off for 8 hours over night.
First day has been fairly standard really...much the same as my Galaxy Nexus. Currently on 2 hrs screen time, 36 mins of calls and I'm already down to 45%???
Is this "normal"??
I'm just a little concerned that I may have a crappy battery. I feel a bit "to soon to judge" so I might see after a week. Just wanted to know if everyone else had the same sort of experience.
Thanks in advance.

AFAIK the battery needs a few charging cycles to get it's full capacity. So it will become better.
Have you set the slider for auto brightness to minimum?
That made the greatest power boost for my Note 2.
If the slider isn't at minimum, your values look normal to me.
If it is, you should have more battery left. But here I have to refer to my first sentence.

Drained 55% in 2 hours of screen time and 36 minutes seems weird but it's too soon to judge. Get it down to 1% and fully charge your battery to the max with your phone off and see if it works wonder the next day. Do let us know the outcome.

Thanks guys. I definitely will.
I just thought me fully draining it yesterday would have made today pretty good. Your right though... I feel I'm judging a little too quickly. I just thought I'd get a surprise straight away with this phone as I know it's got unreal battery life.
What were your first days like?
Edit - My screen has been on auto all day too... Hrmmm, starting to worry... Haha. Luckily I haven't rooted yet.

Even if it is on auto, you can calibrate the brightness with the slider in the notifications.
For me it's bright enough if it is at min. And it saves you loads of battery.

Update.
Did a full charge from 10% last night... While on though, does that make a huge difference?
Did this code today *#0028# and like a battery stats reset tool comes up. After hitting quick restart it's drained allot slower. Maybe it didn't have that done out of the factory. Still feel I have a crappy battery though... It's only been 2 charges. Going to do 1% then charge off tonight. See how we go...
Anyone know what the code tool is actually for?
Cheers.

I got a 4 day juice after charging it for the first time with screen on for 4+ hours. Still getting the same or better at times. One thing i have noticed is that leaving the phone connected to the charger for another 20 mins or so even when its fully charged gives it a push in the right direction. U can try that out if u want.
Following are my 1st charge stats

links are just blocked at work, nvm.
Links working fine here...
That's probably what I'd get out of my NS if I used it fairly heavily... the display is a battery killer on that too. So about average, then.
Don't know what happened to the quality though, looked OK when I took them!
Hoping when this mobile data problem gets sorted battery life may increase as my phone was all over the place today!

Ouch, thats some serious drain. I was hoping for at least 18hrs. Still not a deal breaker for me.
Gosh, why is yours so much better than mine. Feeling like I have a dud here :/
3 hours damnm
Thats right around what I get on my charge on 3g only.

2H 55 of screen time looks to be pretty lacking if I'm not mistaken?
The Galaxy S II video run downs get like 8H or 4H on web browsing.
But yea, diff situations
Your pictures are broken can't see any of them.
Edit: 3h screen on sounds pretty normal to me. Depends though on the brightness of the screen.

Those are completely different. They start with a full battery and just play videos or browse the web for that amount of time. With this he was using for the phone for random things and still had the screen on for 3 hours.
On that note, how is it possible to have the screen on for 3 hours of a 12-hour day? You literally spent 1/4 of your day looking at the screen? Do you not have a job? My phone sits in a dock on my desk, but I probably use it around 15 minutes per day while at work, and then another 45 min or so after work (so total screen time, if it wasn't sitting in the dock, would be around 1 hour for an 18 hour day).

Those run down tests are from 100 to 0 doing 1 thing. This is throughout the day. The phone is still draining when the screen is off.
yea i understand.....but basically the screen time is how long the screen has been on throughout the day correct?
I had a galaxy S and it used to get like 4-5 hrs of screen time throughout a 12hr day. With the extended battery i could get about 6-7hrs of screen time.
Now on the iPhone 4, i get 2hrs of screen time with 80% battery left and had a standby of 6hrs. But yea....its iOS
Idk, 3hrs of screen time seems ehh to me. Im still probably gonna get the phone though, tired of iOS once again. Went from 3GS to Galaxy S to iPhone 4 and now possibly Galaxy Nexus....or wait for GS III
Wifi radio power on all day?
Several people who've had the phone for a few days have said the battery life gets better after a few charging cycles.
Calibrate the device, leave it off then charge it till it's full. Then use it till it is dead, then charge it again while switched off and keep doing that for the first week when you buy a device any device that uses a battery. I've always done this to my phone and my wife's sometimes friends too. After that the battery is calibrated, then if something goes wrong with the drain you would know, or if the battery life actually sucked Case 'n point EVO 4G.
yea, 3 hours used 56% of the 85% of the battery that was used. so really should be able to get 5 to 6 hours of just screen on time.
I uninstalled my virus protection yesterday and turned off sync and wifi whilst at work today about 11am and battery stats better today. Haven't been in a low signal area today so no problems or slowdowns caused by 2g/3g.
Taken off charge about 9.30am
Wondering if its the virus protection taken off or disabling sync and Wi-Fi or the fact I was in 3g area all day that's improved it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Signal strength is usually the main problem I have...
Is there a native ability in ICS to disable WiFi scanning? ie - Leave WiFi on, but disable scanning for networks...
OP, I'll bet your batt life would be 3x better with something like Tasker managing your Wi-Fi connection.
IMO, BEST.ANDROID. APP. EVER.

Greatly improved battery life (CDMA)

Last night I restored my phone using the factory image. For some reason I anticipate an OTA soon so I wanted to be ready. Anyhow, before I suffered from the battery drain bug. I forgot to charge my phone last night, and didn't realize it until I got in my car and put it on the car charger and it said 89%. My first thought was that my battery drained over 10% in the hour I was getting ready and not using it! Then I went into battery settings and found out I never charged it.. then I found some pleasant... well, I'll just show you.

As you can see, I lost less than 5% battery during the 6+ hours my phone was unplugged. I had the phone in the living room charging while watching a movie. Then I unplugged and used it for about 20 minutes in the bedroom which accounts for the first rapid drop in battery. But after I set it down, the phone went into a coma. And I can't see exactly, but it looks like it was only 2 or 3% which is great!
Not sure what changed, I still have the same apps installed, even Facebook. I did, however, NOT disable VZ backup assistant like I normally do. Maybe that is what causes the OS to go bonkers? Thoughts?

I got about 20 hours out of mine yesterday (extended battery) with moderate usage (texting, ebay, facebook, web) This is after unlocking the bootloader and rooting. Unlocking the bootloader resets the phone to factory state. I've read a few other posts around the web where battery life is greatly improved after a factory reset. Android OS is still the main things devouring my battery, but I almost don't care with the performance I'm getting. I should also mention that I wiped battery stats from CWM and then calibrated the battery on first charge.
I'm no dev, so I don't know why a reset would help. Then again, maybe it was wiping battery stats and calibrating that helped me. Just my $.02
How did you calibrate the battery?
There's a free tool in the market that will calibrate for you. Have to be rooted though. Just search for calibrate.

Surprised this isn't getting more acknowledgement. Any one else experience the same after a reset?

Guess maybe I'm one of the lucky few...I've always had this type of battery life. The phone just sips power while the screen is off.
While it is on...well that's different. I keep the brightness high and get about 2-2.5 hours of screen time before it powers off.
The interesting thing here is that it seems that you have the Android OS constantly waking up the phone but yet it still barely uses battery.
Do you have location services turned on or off?
Turned on. I noticed that too but the overall awake time is low. Usually it would be over half of the entire time on battery, sometimes 100%.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I used 50% in about 3 hours on my extended battery.
fml.
Great battery life, but you didnt really use your phone much.
Your "Screen on" is only about 15% of those 6 hours. Which ends up being about an hour.
Still, none the less, great battery life/power consumption.

I think you missed the point. I said this was done while I was sleeping. Many people are experiencing extreme battery drain even when they aren't using the phone, as was I. After restoring from the factory image, my issue seems to be gone.

I unplugged my phone at 11:30 pm with 98%, woke up at 7:30 am today and it dropped to 76%. So a 20% drop in 8 hrs with the phone just sitting there with wi-fi on and no apps running. It'd be very interesting to see if a factory restore would help.
How's the battery life now that you're using it?
Im thinking of unlocking and rooting mine tonight. havent had a moment to read the walkthrough just yet.
i noticed this too last night/today. i went to sleep after installing bugless beast 4.0.3 cdma, left it off the charger, and today i saw the chart was pretty much a flat line. i don't recall the exact times, but i'll try to time it out. about 8 hours
i wonder if all the initial extreme battery drain reports are due to the 'wowanewphone' effect, where you are molesting your phone 24/7, as opposed to the typical day-to-day use you'll eventually fall back into

6 hours screen on?

Sure sure it's with light use, but just the fact that it can hit 6+ hours screen time after more than a day and a half... sits pretty well with me.
No games, 30% screen brightness, 74 mins of calls, quite a bit of texting & whatsapp, 30 odd mins browsing, wifi 100%, sync on, only 1 widget.
aokp, lean kernel, undervolted, K6, extended battery.
Loving this phone!!!

Nice. I've had my extended battery for 2 days now and I am seriously impresses ed with it. It on my drive home I'm at 65% instead of 30%. I really think the extended battery should of come stock.
I got a similar 6 hour in airplane mode. I was watching a movie while roaming on vacation.

No, he didn't? Look closer on first screenshot. There is no sign of charging on those lines below the graph. Those places where graph line goes up are pretty normal and that doesn't mean device war charging.

Nah I didn't charge it at all, as the other guys pointed out. I remember my battery dropping to 4%, I then put down my phone and when I came back later on, it was reading 5%. I thought I was going crazy, but looking at the graph now I see it really did happen. It raised from 4% to 5% and stayed there for a bit before dropping to 4% again.
Anyway, I hope this wasn't a one off... it's not doing as well today with the same usage. We'll see...

Actually, the phone calls don't do much damage... You should be able to talk 11hours on this phone apparently...
I am very jealous. I am lucky to get 3-3.5 of web surfing.
With standard battery, you can get almost 11 hours screen on time (by doing nothing):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366878&highlight=max+battery
So, that's the limit
My experience with extended battery, 2000 mAH, GSM, I could get 4 and a half screen on time with 61 hours stand by time. For sure, it can go down to 6 hours or more screen on time if I down the standby time. All with stock ROM, stok kernel, un-locked
It is not difficult to achieve that knowing the limit, all depends on how you set it up and how do you use your phone.

Battery Stats Thread

So I was wondering if anyone who has their device already could post some screenshots of their battery usage, screen time etc?
I know there have been some thrown around numerous thread but just thought it would be useful if people would post in one place?
Thanks
just wanna share some battery life stats..
1st power up of the phone.. did a full charge with phone off, once charging light changed to green, i powered up the phone.. 1st thing i notice.. it is not fully charged to 100%..
next thing to take note, the entire duration the phone is on is an additional hr plus.. i rebooted the phone once so im not sure what is the actual duration the phone is powered by the battery..
all in all, about 3hr+ with high usage of the phone.. notice how the phone was awake most of the time and the screen was on most of the time too..
cheers..

Whats your screen on time?
1st post so I hope it's helpful.
I'm a big fan of the phone & love it, there are a few small issues I've noticed & I'll post these in the relevant thread.
People keep saying the battery life is dreadful but it doesn't seem much worse than my original Desire on similar use.
After the first full charge last night I plugged in the charger when the warning came on at 9%:
11 hours 2 minutes on battery, screen used 75% of the power while on for 4 hours 31 minutes.
Everything else used a few % each.
Brightness was on auto at approx 50% most of the time and on full for about half an hour; indoors I wouldn't want it as bright as that.

Hi
Thinking about this phone or the one s. Just a quick q regarding the documented poor battery. Could i go out for the day - say for 15/16 hours send the occasional texts maybe a couple of photos/videos and the occasionally browsing the web - to check football scores etc etc.. should this handle that ok ?
is a pocket charger the way to go ?

That's how I intend to use the phone tomorrow, so i'll soon let you know.
The thing with this phone that is superb, there is hardly any drain when your not using it. It's extremely good for idle power saving.
dunno about you guys but i'm getting insane numbers in standby...
overnight i lose 1% with wifi, data and autos-sync on....
it's the first android phone that sleeps properly when screen is off...there's nothing keeping it awake.
i'm on 1.26 by the way
Well I don't think it's that bad on battery given how much screen time i've had....three and a half hours.
Only got 2% left so going to put it back on charge. These are my final stats for my first day after a 13hour charge

[Q] Very strange battery behavior.

Hi all... first post, first problem with android... and hopefully a long time here in xda!
So I have the T320 (8.4 pro) and I have a strange problem with my battery. Is not only that it lasts no more than 4 hours (screen), the problem come by low and high battery %.

By low, the table shuts down and after starting it again, it shows between 5 and 10% battery!!
Something similar happens by charging... it shows 90% and no change... and after a reboot it shows 100%.
Is my battery dying? Should I wipe and restart from zero? Cyanogen?
The speed how fast battery drains is also extreme compared to stand-by times... but I assume this is more or less a problem of this tablet.
Many thanks in advance!

Having similar issues. Found mine dead out of nowhere one day. Never had custom ROM on it. Did factory reset now it seems like it doesn't want to charge .... Charges VERY slowly if at all.
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Free mobile app
i have the same issue, dropped from 50 to 15 all of a sudden , will try calibration , anyone else noticed this ?i picked up mine used so unsure whats the issue
i found better battery life after i did a factory reset. i bought it new and set it up and since then had 1 Sammy update but last week i reset it and it clearly made a difference on my 10.1. yesterday i had 2 hours screen time and on battery for 2 day and some hours and had 60% left.
Add mine to the list....seems to be doing the same thing here. Haven't been able to sort it out yet.
Took the back off mine tonight and reseated the battery connector. Then charged like below. First to time in a while it charged up like this.
can you post a pic of videos of how to pry it open ? hopefully simple with a prying tool

I just very carefully went around it with one of those guitar like plastic openers i have laying around from the many tablet/phone repair kits i have used. I probably rebooted it 5 times before i finally popped it apart... thing just did not want to charge. This was the first time i saw it ramp up 1% at a time in a while. The other thing i noticed it was doing was jumping from ~70% to 100% instantly.... The graph showed it too. I didn't believe that was really happening.
some pics would help , is it between the screen and the metallic part or the back and the metallic part ?

Opened mine up because of the battery charging stalls and reseated my battery. I bought this tab 2 weeks ago used and this is the first time it has charged to 100 without me forcing it too! Its def worth doing if ur battery stalls!!

Mine has been really good now for days too...any hint of battery probs are gone!
I suspect an app did this too. I was on cm when it started...others were stock. Chrome or some other common Google app put our tabs in a funky state.
