ATT LTE Version - Sony Xperia ZL

Hey guys,
I just ordered the ATT LTE version and wanted to know if any APN settings need to be changed or just inserting the ATT SIM will have me on the LTE network.
Phone is coming tomorrow.

Where u order from?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app

Expansys.
Got the LTE version, I hope.
Model C6506

Well c6506 is the LTE version supports Att and tmo LTE. If your previous phone was a 4g att then I believe it should work right off just swap sims. APN should download automatic is my understanding.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app

Just pop the Sim in go to Settings - Xperia - and download internet settings and it will download the APN for you.

It's a tad better than my Note 2 which usually averages 5000 kbps in the same area.

nice!

Oops, I guess it would help to answer the OP's question. Yes, you can just stick in your SIM card and the phone will automatically pick up LTE. The APN has all the entries correct except it was missing the APN type entries though -- that may affect MMS but I didn't test it, just went ahead and put in admin, fota, mms, supl, hipri out of habit.

So far this phone is a total winner.
Put my Nano SIM w/ and adapter fro my iPhone 5 into the ZL and got ATT LTE right away, 25mb downloads, just as fast as the iPhone5.
This phone also has Google Wallet, while I'ver never really used it, I turned it on and will try it out, something that hasn't been talked about on this device.
Other than that just setting it up, I had a GS3 a while back so I'm sorta familiar , but the speed and UI seem good.
The location of the power button on the side is a big plus over reaching for it on the top, the iPhone and Galaxy have the actual home button, which I prefer.
Speaker volume is OK, not super loud but good, a little tinny.
I paired the Bluetooth with my car and at first it had some static when listening to Spotify or making a call so I unpaired and did it all again and that seemed to fix it.
Also I got a Sony system update after the phone was turned on.
So in sort, for a full ATT LTE device, I wont use 3G only this thing looks good so far.

Is the display as washed out as others make it seem? I'm coming from a nexus 4 where the display is less than stellar, but price to performance ratio is amazing. Thanks! Also if you get a chance to toss nova launcher on there just to see what it looks like on a 1080p screen, that would be awesome. Thank you!

I bought my 6502 on eBay for around $593. Should be here by next Wednesday Cannot wait to take it on vacation in Florida on the 6th to test out the camera!

Really? Man...that is one of the huge reasons i need to leave the nexus 4. The camera, lack of LTE and no expandable storage. How bad is it compared to current gen hardware? And the inevitable iphone 5.

If you don't would you tell me if it ships on time. I need it by Tuesday because I'm leaving for a couple weeks. I ordered it first thing this am with overnight delivery. I'm expecting it Tuesday as my order specified. After reading PCNation reviews I'm finding they may have a habit of showing items as "in stock" than leaving the order status as "pending cc approval", as my order has been all day, until their stock arrives. I'm just getting nervous....

[Q] Will the Galaxy Nexus work with Tmobile web2go?

I have a Nexus 1 and have unlimited data working with the web2go $9.99 plan.
The Nexus S did not work with the web2go because Tmobile blocked it. They had the phones imei #'s. The Nexus one was sold by Google so Tmobile did not have the imei #'s
So going off these facts, If I buy the UK Galaxy Nexus will the web2go data plan work?
did the web2go give you edge speeds, or just 3g speeds? or did it give you HSPA as well? and my last question, will it also give you 4g in the galaxy nexus as well? (if it isn't blocked)

Yes it gives me 3g speeds. I think even HSPA+ speeds too (or what the nexus1 limits are capable of. Posted a pic of speed results i just ran)
About the 4g speeds in the galaxy nexus, well in theory if i web2go works then yes I would think that HSPA+ speeds would be achievable.

Its a $9.99 data plan for dumb phones. Tmobile knows if you are using a dumb phone or a smartphone though. So they wont let you use it, BUT certain phones like the nexus one and other unlocked phones can use this plan by messing with their APN settings.
I believe the setting is internet2.voicestream.com, right? If so, I think as long as the GN is unlocked, it should work. According to this link, GN works on T-Mobile.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357678
BTW, I'm using a SE X10i from Norway on T-Mobile. No issue w/ internet2.voicestream.com. 3G & all works fine.

Yea... probably 5~6 yrs ago... Had SE X1i back then. Was getting only EDGE speed...
Well, up till today, I am still using internet2.voicestream.com. Still pay $9.99 per month. Gets EDGE, 3G, and HSPA depending on area's coverage... (Must say that T-mobile's 3G/H coverage isn't as good as AT&T, but it's cheap...)
I use SE X10i, unlocked, running custom CM7 ROM. Had it for 2 yrs and never had problem with internet2.voicestream.com setting.
Therefore, chances of the same setting working is likely... @ least I'm betting ~$800 on it... =S

I know T-Mobile did some sh!t like that on the Nexus S. Coworker bought 1 from Best Buy. Worked fine at first. Then got locked out about a week or less. He then updated his data plan to $30, and works fine again. This kinda crap, I don't think will happen to the UK version. T-Mobile-USA can't have all the IMEI# in the world... We'll see soon enough in a wk or more time if the seller ships on time...
Peace out!

They had the #'s for the Nexus S' sold because they were made for T-mo's AWS 3G. Surely T-mobile got the IMEI's for these.

Will the US carriers ever stop screw their customers over? Probably not. It's kind of sad really but it shows what happens with no competition (as in every phone working on every carrier within the country).
any word with tzones/web2go?
also, i wonder if itd make a difference whether the phones bought from an american vendor, as opposed to an overseas one..
Got my GNex today!! (Am happy man right now!)
Plugged my T-Mobile SIM into the GNex... and guess what? GNex loaded the epc.tmobile.com settings automatically... and it WORKS even tho I am on the $10 plan.
Didn't seem to have any issue after about 1 hr of use... But I switched back to internet2.voicestream.com settings... Don't know if t-mobile tracks users on epc.tmobile.com or not, but better be safe than sorry...
After switching to internet2.voicestream.com, internet is working as it should. No issue after another hr of use...
If things change, will make another post.
PS. BTW, this is UK version's GNex. US version doesn't seem to be supporting GSM bands...
Cool, keep us updated if anything changes!
Had been holding off, but now there's no reason to!
We hope.
Are there any downsides to doing this?
I have a Galaxy Nexus on the way and am not currently a T-Mobile customer. How would I go about getting my GN on the web2go plan?
You can't anymore, unless you already have a T-mob account with that data plan. That's kind of the point. Once you give up the grandfathered data plans, or "upgrade" to an Android data plan (at least $20), it's gone forever. So it behooves anyone who still has it to hold on to it.
Way way back, in the early days of wireless data, T-mobile had a $3? plan, on GPRS. Then it went up to $5. I have the $5.99. Then they started offering a $10 plan. That was available up until maybe last year? I think it's completely unavailable now.

Galaxy Nexus on AT&T

Debating on picking one up or waiting for the Skyrocket HD. I'm sure the SGSIII won't hit shores till November. Reading through the posts is appears the Nexus still has alot of quirks and issues that have yet to worked out. Being that the GSM Nexus is a unlocked overseas import, I'm a bit nervous about getting it and dealing with numerous reboots, ect and being screwed (ie...don't have the option to take it back and get another device from Verizon). So my question is is the GSM having as many issues as the CDMA Nexus? Anyone with the GSM want to chime in. Negri has the nexus with a $25 off coupon for $620ish, but I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger with all these issues I'm reading about.
Sent from my iPhone 4s using Tapatalk
Have a GSM Nexus from Negri and it has been without fault. The phone is stable, fast and very good looking. I would do it again. I also have it on AT&T.
Issues such as what?
Battery? These are coming from LTE versions of the phone. GSM is fine.
Speaker? Get volume+ and boost the speaker
Not having any problems with the phone. I'd recommend it. I purchased from negri as well.

Glad to hear it. I wasn't fond of moving over to Verizon. How are the network speeds? Did you have to go into AT&T to get a sim? I have a microsim in my 4s, can I just get an adapter and pop it in and be GTG?

Using micro sim from 4s with adapter. Speeds are good, generally 5-6mbps down and 2mbps up. Really, not complaints and never went into AT&T nor called them. The joy of having GSM.

I made the switch to Verizon ... my battery lasts me through the workday if I forget to charge it (and about 50% of the time I'm in the basement and the phone is constantly searching for a signal that just isn't there, so it drains a bit faster than it normally would). The GSM version is supposed to be significantly better, so I don't see how the battery issue would be a concern for you.
The network is amazing on Verizon though, my BAD speeds beat my GOOD speeds when I was on Tmo.
If I wasn't getting a work discount though, I probably wouldn't have made the switch due to price. As it is, I'm paying about the same as Tmo and getting 1GB less data and no texts (I use Google Voice so this isn't an issue). But, I'm glad to have the extra 16GB storage since there isn't an option for expansion.
This phone (GSM or CMDA) is well worth it. It's been running great and has had no issues. The stock ringtones are a bit quiet, but if you use your own, it gets a lot better. I think most of the people who complained about the volume are using the stock tones.
Everything is pretty much smooth on this phone ... I haven't had any of the lag issues I've come to know from my G1, Vibrant and G2x.

Yeah, it's not so much the network, as Verizon is just as good as AT&T here in Illinois. It's that I have unlimited data and staying with AT&T allows me first crack at the the Galaxy S3 when it hits (not sure Verizon would even get that).
So it looks like their are different builds for different regions? Anyone know which build you get from Negri?

Depends where they get their shipment from. Surely they're sourcing them from wherever they can. If it really bothers you that much, you'll always be able to just flash the "official" Google yakju build. Although I have doubts it really matters as much as ppl think.

To be honest its either get a Galaxy Nexus or a Sgs2 variant. These are the two top phones out right now. I'm coming from a sgs2 and don't regret it. With the 32GB coming there is really nothing else to want. The sgs3 won't be here for another 6-8 months if that. I have to see how quadcores play with the battery.
The issues you mention can be fixed with a kernel/baseband flash. I had the phone for almost a week and only had 1 reboot and that was probably off of me testing radios and kernels. No grainy lines. Volume was fixed by volume+. Best phone I had and I almost touched every phone out carrier wise. The support is there that's all you need. If there is a issue XDA can fix it.
Unless it's a broken power button lol

I could kick myself for not jumping on that. Anyone know when the 32gb model will be available?
I'm also on AT&T and am extremely happy with this phone. I got mine on Amazon through one of the resellers. I haven't talked to AT&T in years, and have been off contract for even longer.
I get about 3-7 mbps download speeds, but I live in a poor AT&T area. I haven't had the opportunity to try it out in a larger city yet. Battery life is phenomenal, and I solved the volume issues by downloading Volume+ for free from the dev's website. It's working great, so I think I'll toss him a couple bones by buying it legit from the market.
I don't use local music or movies on my phones, so 16gb will work out just fine for me. The only downside I've had is the inability to put the phone in USB Mass Storage, but there are apps to facilitate transfer (Wifi Explorer Pro is the one I use).
I just got my Nexus from Expansys-USA, and i haven't been happier. Came from a SGS2, and probably the biggest difference is the screen. The nexus is BEAUTIFUL! and needless to say, ICS is the most stable and complete Android version to date.
Im having no issues whatsoever, and like i said, i haven't been happier.
Edit: if you buy from Expansys, you get a $60 Simple Mobile refill card for free, which i sold on ebay for a cool $50. Not bad if I say so myself

I'm in Illinois, so I'm hit with about $70 worth of tax. $622 from Negri will be the way to go. But I hear great things about Expansys.
I got my Galaxy Nexus from Daily Steals, and it's working great. I immediately rooted it and installed CM9 on it. I had signal issues at first with the default radio, but I flashed UGKL1 which fixed all of my issues.

No. With all unlocked GSM phones, all you need to do is swap out your sim card. Then you're all set.
You don't have to ask for permission from your carrier like the Verizon and sprint customers do.

Good bye Sprint its been nice.

I called account services today to see how much ETF would be for me and my wife. They said i would have to pay $650 for both lines. I told them how bad service was in my house (100KBS download) and they did the unexpected. I will no ETF fee!!!!! All i have to do is send them my sprint phones(NS4G, Galaxy Nexus). As soon i hung up and my data kicked back on i had email from sprint explaining no Charges as long as i send the phone back within 2 weeks of cancelling and they even gave me a shipping label. I couldnt be happier. Now the question is who do i switch to??
TMobile Prepaid
$30 : 100 minutes, 5GB 4G Data, Unlimited Text/MMS
Yeah what the above said. Buy a Galaxy Nexus at the play store for $349 and with that plan, and watch yourself save hundreds a year.
How in the hell did you manage that! They didn't try to offer you a airwave (or whatever it's called) first?
Guess I'll have to give it another go...

I have been debating on doing this for a few months now. Sprint reliability has steadily decreased in my area over the past several months and I am about fed up with it. Good to hear you were able to get out ETF free.

I have to throw Verizon in the mix as well. Verizon has pretty much the best nationwide coverage (3G and 4G) out of any carrier but you will pay for it.
I had AT&T for a year and half before Verizon and their coverage was/is no where near Verizon's. Most of the area where I live is still on Edge with AT&T and I just had 4G LTE show up on my phone the other day (Verizon is testing 4G in our area and is supposed to be fully up and running shortly).

I moved from Tmo to VZW back in April and couldn't be happier. VZW has the best data coverage in America hands down, but as you correctly pointed out, you're going to pay for it. In the end though, it's a good value for your dollar if having reliable data at a decent speed damn near everywhere is important to you.
The straw that broke the camel's back with T-Mobile for me was when they limited data roaming on my plan to 100MB/mo and just cut it off at that without so much as the option of paying for overage. I travel to places where Tmo has no service. In those areas my phone would roam on AT&T, but streaming radio alone would eat up the 100MB roaming allowance. Screw that. I was a Tmo customer for 11 years.

Verizon is a great deal for me an my wife, because both of our families and most of our friends are on it so we go through like 20 minutes per month. Otherwise, I would probably go prepaid. Just look up some coverage maps to make sure they work in the places you need it.
Wife and I were on Sprint up until January, then I got a letter in the mail saying I was roaming too much...When I called to ask about it I was somewhat annoyed because the wording of the letter was basically telling me they didn't want my business...upon asking them if I should take my business elsewhere we were released form our contract that we had just renewed 10 days before. On top of that we got to keep our phones, which we sold on Ebay (and Iphone that she had and an epic touch) Thank you Sprint...I will say they do have very nice customer service compared to Verizon, always willing to help and not sell you something.
Just my 2 cents...
Chris
You will pay for what you get. I had T-Mobile for a couple years worst service by far. They claim its 4g in Chicago area be lucky if I get 1Mbps down. Also dropped calls very several per day. I. Very happy with Verizon fast incredible internet faster than my home Comcast and never dropped not one call.

I'd read into the prepaid thread a bit. The 2GB limit isn't a hardline cap that they turn off your data at that point. Its more of a common wisdom that's been determined over time from people relaying back their monthly usage and experiences. There's nothing in Straight Talk's ToS that says they cut off at 2GB.
Depending on your market (# of ST users, market saturation, etc.) and usage that month, you may or may not be throttled at the 2GB-3GB range. I've heard lots of stories of people staying around 3GB just fine, and a few (but still some) reporting 5GB or more. It really is market dependent. YMMV for sure.
Is this the new thing? Making a new thread on leaving sprint? One of these was just made a few days ago...

Not just Sprint. You'll see the same from carrier X to carrier Y. Then next week from Y to X. People just like to make threads.

Just got my Galaxy S3 today. Received a dud unfortunately :( Couple problems inside.

Well today I got my Galaxy S3 at Walmart. It was cheaper than sprint, and I only payed 148 before taxes. Unfortunately it has a problem with the camera. The main camera has a huge sensor issue line going through all the pictures, mainly apparent in lower light. It does it with all camera apps. Phone is fresh out the box. I went back to walmart and unfortunately they did not have another S3 in stock. I have 14 days to swap it out and got a case started. The lady told me she has to wait until tomorrow to speak to the manager since she does not have authority to order a new one, but she assured me I will get a new one. I hope this goes without problems. Downside of getting it at walmart...
Here are some pictures of the screens:

You can see the line in all of these. Something is wrong with the image sensor. I really hope my replacement phone will not have any bugs like this.
One last thing, I know its 16 GB, and formatted always shows less, but WHY does my girlfriends verizon S3 show the full 16 GB ??
Mine:
Hers:
Is it just showing hers wrong, or does her phone really have more memory, even though they are the same model pretty much. 16GB
This is why you don't buy high end products from walmart...that's just my opinion tho.
Have you asked if any near by store has any in stock?

not walmart fault , i had bad phones from tmobile stores and from sprint with my gf gs2 screen **** happens as long as you get a new one i wouldn't worry. you also can send it to Samsung which is faster and get it replaced for free one year factory warranty i had mine replaced twice already and took less than a week to get the phone. only downside is ups just leave your phone at your door of your house when your not there it happed twice thx goodness no one took the phone. Call samsung and be done i wouldn't bother waiting on walmart.

Relax dude, Like said, that is my opinion..lol
I sensed no attitude or disrespect in his post that warranted him to "relax". Whatever. Anyways my advice to OP is to have the Wal Mart store manager find you another new phone at a nearby store OR Athey can have one shipped to your house. For the duration of your return policy you will need to deal with Wal Mart. After that time elapses and you still have not got your phone swapped out, you can go to any corporate Sprint store for repair/exchange as long as you have TEP (total equipment protection) on your line of service. If yoy don't, your next best option is to contact Samsung as was already suggested. I'm confident Wal Mart will make it right. Good luck.
Why can't you go to a different Walmart that has it in stock and Swap it there?
The agreement with walmart states that you must return it to the same store you received it from. I don't have TEP, but I called walmart to check yesterday and they have ordered 3 new phones for the shelves and they are saving one for me so I can get it swapped out. So far everything has been working very smooth with them.
Dang, you have a bar in your house?!!! :victory:
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got a defective GS3 >_<, I'm onto my second one actually.
My first GS3 I had to have exchanged as the charging port was bad on it, the second one (the one I'm on now,) the headphone jack went awry and I had to replace it.
I actually work for Sprint at a Service Center, so luckily if anything goes wrong on mine I can repair it.
Also on the plus side, the GS3 is EXTREMELY easy to work on! Most parts are interchangeable (except charging ports of course,) and besides the tons of screws on the back it's pretty easy to open up once the screws are out.
I do have to say having insurance on your phone is the smartest thing you can do, because without it outside of the 14 day return policy if you have a manufacturer's defect or something wrong you have to send it to Samsung or pay $35 at a repair center to get it replaced or fixed.
If you guys have any questions feel free to ask!

Definitely worth having insurance. I didn't even know, but even (with insurance) outside of the 14 days sprint will either fix or replace the device in store right there with a unit in stock. That's pretty cool.

But at $11/month, it would only take a little more than 3 months to get that back with no insurance, right? I went to the Sprint store once in the almost 2 years I had my Epic 4G, but paid $7-8 each month for it, which comes out to a lot more than $35.

Same here. Fighting ))
It's too much expensive now. And i know nothing about Korean LTE, will it work or not. But the good thing is that Korean G2 was getting updates faster than any other version of G2. I think it applies to G3 also.
It is waaay too expensive now, and there is a good chance that by the time they deliver, we can get branded versions here in the US.

While you're definitely right on the way too expensive, some sellers are advertising that they already have limited stock in hand and are ready to ship.
Some sellers even include Fedex, etc. so you could have it in your hands next week.
Does Korean version have 2 batteries and charging cradle? If yes, it theoreticaly saves you about 50-60$, even if you get it now on Ebay.
Here is the band information from one of the auctions for the different models:
2G Network
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network
WCDMZ 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network
400K : LTE Band 1, 3, 7, 8
400S : LTE Band 1, 3, 5
400L : LTE Band 1, 5,7
So I think that means a no go for LTE on AT&T. The other thing I was considering is going for a LG G Pro 2. Sure would like the bigger screen! Just wish I knew if/when it was getting the new interface. It looks great!

no, I'll wait.
Some of the sellers "having them in stock" have not-so-stellar feedback - first.
They may have it and ship right away. Or they may not, and there is not much you can do.
and last, but not least, I need to make sure the phone is fully compatible w/my carrier, frequencies, LTE etc.

I appreciate your points, but I've imported numerous phones from eBay without issues: Note 1, 2, 3, Z Ultra, etc.
You do have to be careful about the seller, but there are a few with 99%+ feedback and there is PLENTY you can do if they don't deliver on their promises and you use PayPal. PayPal almost automatically finds in favor of the buyer, and these stores don't want bad feedback.
Your third point is spot on though! (Although I've found that 4g isn't really a NEED for me, it's just nice to have. YMMV.)

I have ordered from ebay many times, last one was my Sony Z Ultra, had no unpleasant surprises so far.
Yet I use ebay to get something for the cheaper price, not the other way around. 3/32 version is rumored to be $650 in the US.
As of ebay/paypal, you have to have the case. They give you the tracking number, the tracking number does not show up, you still have to wait and ebay/paypal will not help you. By the time you raise your case to the appropriate level and get your money back it "might" happen you can get G3 from the store the very same day Although I do think they will release it by the end of June, not before.
As of LTE, it is absolute must for me.
But if you are willing and ready, go ahead and tell us about your experience, hopefully positive.
