Hey,
Is it normal that the xperia zl becomes warm/hot at the back near the camera?
It happens if I use it for too long like using the web....

Yep, had it happen to me a few times. Nothing to worry about though. If I am not wrong its an issue with all Snapdragon S4 Pros

Yup it's normal, quad core CPU running at 1.5GHz with great GPU for sure it develops some sort of heat. I just hope someone will release kernel with voltage control to reduce the amount of heat it develops

Its normal. This apply to to all smartphones.

Yeah that's normal. It used to heat up a lot initially (first few days) even while browsing album app or viewing videos. But now, after about 2 weeks of usage, it doesn't heat up that much, not even while web browsing via WiFi (using dolphin).

It happened to me the first few days I got mine but a few weeks later its not as bad

Ah! thank god! i was freaking out here thinking my phone was a dud. Today's the first day and it's getting very hot! I'll test it for a week and hopefully all works out
BTW X10 to ZL ... best upgrade everrr!

Yes mine too but so other phones if u have the screen on for more than an hour is getting warm in the back
Sent from my C6506 using xda app-developers app

as I know all the smart phone I used are get warm.
so that is very normal.my zl when video chat with friend for half hour getting hot not warm
but if only for web it getting warm

Yeah mine also gets warm when just using the phone (browsing, social networks, etc), but it gets quite hot if playing games or watching 1080p videos.

Heating up too
I also noticed mine getting warm during the following: my son playing Plants vs. Zombies (something about the last few updates have made it very resource intensive), playing NFS Most Wanted (again, graphically intense), during charging, and running the GPS Navigation for more than an hour. Luckily I have a generic ventilation grip that allows the cool air to flow over the phone...

Does your SIII heat up at the bottom when under heavy load?

Just curious if anybody else's gets pretty warm after surfing the web and listening to some music or another instance was while video chatting with my wife? Is this been the case or do I have a defect. The vibrant I came from never really did.
Yea it gets a little warm but nothing to worry about. Let's not forget how thin the back cover is.... So you will feel it warm.

Yeah, mine gets warm. I don't consider it "HOT"
Ditto....it heats up...and i feel it through my case...have not given it much thought thou.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
yup definitely gets hot. Usually it's ok but when it's really hot outside it can be bothersome but not to the point that it burns or anything. At least not yet lol.
Thanks guys, I feel better.
If you are too worried use some app that will display battery temperature. I use wifi tether. My battery goes to max 37 degree Celsius after gaming for half an hour. That's not bad considering the battery is designed to operate upto 60 degrees.

Mine gets hot after about 20 minutes browsing the web without letting the screen turn off once, but it always cools back down really fast. I was freaking out the first couple of times this happened because T-mobile's exchange policy is retarded and slow. I waited long enough for the phone I didn't want to have to wait longer for a replacement. I also have an issue that has been happening ever since I bought the phone. I tried searching, but got nothing. com.process.google.gapps always force closes, but after I hit okay everything runs great. When it happens it does freeze everything on the phone except the notification bar. Then when it finally says com.process.google.gapps has stopped and needs to close, I just hit the okay button and it's like nothing ever happened. Anybody else have this problem and if so know what's causing it?
Mine can get pretty warm too to the point where my hand gets greasy/ sweaty a little .. gets annoying

Did you have any issues? Like the phone slowing down, rebooting or even shutting off due to an over heat?
Mine gets warm as well, but not "hot," so I don't worry about it.
After flashing new kernel. It doesn't feel so warm. I don't run it overclocked.

How hot does your S3 get?

When I'm on mobile data with GPS running, I noticed the bottom of half of my S3 getting pretty damn warm. Is this normal?
Just started using mine I'm feeling the same heat

Are you guys all running stock kernel and ROM or custom? I'm on stock.
Ha! Try hours with GPS, Bluetooth music and Tethering on... the heat seems to really hit while I'm charging and doing all that. Fact! I can't touch the ass end of the phone. It probably gets about 8 hours a week like that. Still working perfectly. Samsung tells me it's normal. It also has a lot of factors for me too. I use a 1 amp charger. After 96% it's not so bad. At night when brightness is down. Not as hot. I tried to get it to mess up but couldn't. GPS, Bluetooth, tethering, charging from 30% and 100% display, and I pushed out to a low coverage area. Didn't miss a beat or melt. Lol.

Navigation makes phones really hot, but with normal usage it should stay within 30-36°C.
I like this phone's heat management more than my old phone. My Evo 3d would get hot from 10 min usage.
On this, my screen has been on for 2 hours straight and I'm running at a cool 35.1 °C.

It actually shouldn't be expected. The Snapdragon S3's also ran at 1.5ghz and was pleasantly cool and the Exynos on the Galaxy Note was at 1.4ghz. Both are less power efficient and should run hotter than the S4. I've used the Evo LTE for a while with the same S4 and it barely got warm on a hot day. The issue is with the second core being weird. For those that hasn't already, make sure you flash Freeza's fix, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790061 . This fix made my phone cool and got rid of my quickly draining battery life.
Most of the time my phone will stay within "normal" (to me) range, but when I game heavily... it turns into an oven range! I've gotten so paranoid a few times, I took the battery out and let it cooled for 5-10min
Im having the same problem....it isnt the software thats causing this its the hardware
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I hope you guys will repsond to this... What do you consider to be "normal" temperature for your phone to reach? Is 35 degrees realy normal? Ive heard people with s3 talk of theirs only reaching temperatures of 29 degrees max.
Thanks.

htc one x 4.0.4 heat ?

I have been waiting for 4.0.4 to fix the 3 dots problem and reduce the heat , the battery got better , but the heat is still so much , when gaming or opening wi fi or the mobile network for a short time , I am on Stock with the latest OTA ' so i wanted to know is it something usuall for all stock users , or it is something with the mobile , so at least i will try to get a replacement

I don’t play intense 3D games, only few simple 2D puzzle type games, With those games the phone only gets barley warm (nothing out of the ordinary). When using WiFi for browsing, youtube or audio streaming its even better. NOw I'm on Viper X 4.0.4 custom ROM. but I had stock 4.0.3 for couple of months before that and I didn't notice a difference.
Stock everything and battery regularly hits 110° both charging and just listening to music off charger
Monitor the heck out if it but runs hot. Had no real heat problems with gs3.

Mine gets quite hot too. Before the latest update, I noticed it would hit 56-57 °C and the battery health would say 'Overheat', but now it's better. I haven't seen it get over 48 and the screen doesn't heat up so much (before, I actually had to let it cool for a while because it would burn my fingers), but the battery isn't too different - it goes down about 1% / minute when playing THD or graphically-intensive games.

Is it for real or is it just an general rule in Android? I mean, is it really not supposed to go into overheat, or does the system just report that for all phones and the Tegra is fine even at higher temps?

htc have added that, once the battery hits 48c it counts as over heating and stop charging until in drops below 48c, most batteries are meant to be kept under 60c so 48 seems a bit low, maybe you could email HTC about it.

Hot GNex

I know heat coming from spot next to the camera is normal. But how much hot is actually normal? My GNex can has up to 39° C. It's very uncomfortable to hold it, because my hand is sweating from the heat.

39 C is nothing. My device has gotten to over 50 C according to its own temperature reading.
I have owned multiple Nexus and some get hot more than other. I also find some kernel and settings make the device hotter, such as Franco. Mine get up to 50*C, I switched back to Lean kernel and battery saving governors/scheduler help. Using a case help a little too.

You can get the CPU temp from Trickster MOD or any of the plethora of CPU Temp widgets in the play store.
Just had a post a reply. My CPU routinely gets above 60C and the battery above 55C. The other day it did this with the screen off and in my pocket. It used to be that I had to charge and stream at the same time to get this hot. I've run stock and myriad of ROMs and I never overclock. I think it's just Sprint's poor signal that causes my issues.
Same thing is happening to me and I'm running Franco. Could that be the prob? I thought Franco was the best

I play ravensword 2 and the room... looks better than most games on ps3 and runs smooth as butter. I have the thermal throttling off but it never slowed down either of those games anyway although after an hour or 2 on ravensword the phone gets warm but ive never recieved any errors. There is no doubt, as far as gaming this is THE phone to have hands down...
