[Q] How to Downgrade from 8.30 to 8.14 without root? - 8.9" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am really hating this 8.30 update got it rooted 3 times (all 3 times different way.... but could repeat it) but both for some reason or another lost root, and seams to be no reliable way to root 8.30 consistently every time! (if their is one please let me know!!) but I want to get TWRP on so I want to know how to downgrade to 8.14 (I just got fast boot working, their really needs to be a how to on installing drivers correctly, for windows 8)
Would it be posible to make a rom that can be flashed from fastboot that would downgrade to 8.14 and have root pre-installed and OTA update blocked?
Thanks for any help!!

Ok found it out!! the easiest way was to use First Aide Software Then use option 7. (It doesn't say but it does have root, plus has a version wrong says 8.2.4 once you start it but dont worry its the right one) once its done (will take a while to do as it downloads the image), I then ran option 14 (Dissable OTA Update) then option 18 (Google Play store).
How to install ADB drivers with windows 8
First before you do anything go to Settings, then Change PC Settings, then General, Advanced Startup restart then go advanced options and disable driver signature or something like that. then start restart and it will restart the computer and give you a option menu select the dissable driver signature again. Then once it get up and log in uninstall any drivers you have with the kindle installed, then use the First Aide Software and run option 12 and go thought and accept everything and it should say have working drivers installed!
Hope this can help someone as it was a super pain for me to find it out! Let me know if it helps!

Thank you for the info.
I had a 8.13 and lost root yesterday after it auto updated itself, so I am frustrated as you are to the point that I am considering returning it and buy something else.

Back the device down to 8.1.x in FirstAide, then run the 'defeat Amazon OTA Update' option.
I did that and my 8.9 didn't get hit with the latest update. It works!

Can you be a little more specific? Settings? Which settings?

Are you on windows 8? If you are go to the right corner of the screen and a menu should come up then go to settings it shows a little gear. once you click that will have another screen has different things like volume power and what not go to the very bottom and it says change pc settings, then go to General on the left at the top will have Time Settings scroll to the bottom to Advanced startup. then go from there just keep going advanced till disable device driver signature, not doing it now so don't remember exactly how. Then it will restart and you need to click the number to disable device driver signiture and then it will boot up, and you can install the drivers, but remember to remove the drivers you have on first.

disable driver signature - test mode windows 8

Look in laslow.net - search for "disable-driver-signature-enforcement-in-windows-8"
I would post the URL but this forum won't let me.
the bcdedit commands still work in Windows 8, but you may have to change a BIOS setting if you have a Secure Boot enabled BIOS

Hey guys, how long should I wait for completing option 7? It has finished boot, recovery, system, and now its on "erasing userdata"......how long does it take, its been awhile.

[guide] fix mms not working for 3uk on omnia 7

So a number of 3uk users have had a problem where after applying the interop unlock and supposedly fixing there 3g settings their mms does not work.
I spent a while reverting my phone and installing updates a number of times trying different things before managing to get mms to work.
Here's how I did it:
1. Revert to your last back up of your phone - this needs to be pre interop unlock and your mms should be working at this point. Do this by connecting to zune, going to update and clicking backup.
2. Install mango updates.
3. Once zune says you can unplug your phone after the updates, unplug it and use heathcliffs method of interop unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1271963
But stop at stage 10 - don't try and repair your mms yet.
4. Deploy any other provxml you may want. May I suggest this one, to enable tethering:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1238519
Don't try to repair the mms yet.
5. ***This is the important bit*** Currently your mms won't work, and there is only one method which will get it to work:
Run the Diagnosis app and dial this to enable auto configure sim setting: *#94765#
It will ask you to restart the device. Confirm that.
Other methods like - setting apn, using samsung tools, etc. do not work so don't try them.
6. Plug your phone back into zune, it should want to update again (mine did) Saying it needed to install Samsung updates. Install them.
7. You're done and your mms should now work - make sure you're not connected to the wifi when trying to send a mms as it may not work.
------
***Important*** After you've applied the fix and got the mms to work do not run any more provxml files as that will screw your settings again, and this method only works once for some reason.
Also don't run any other methods of fixing mms settings like using samsung tools etc. as this will not work, and if you try these before using the diagnosis method, then the diagnosis method will not work. And the diagnosis method will only work once.
If anyone has any ideas as to how to make this fix work more than once for 3uk samsung omnia 7's please let me know.
If this was helpful please say thanks
Oh damned, factory reset?? God damned Microsoft!
Thanks buddy, but I assumeing I wont do that. awlful.....
But is there any other way to solve it? Like edit xml file, fiddle w/ other xap stuff?

You can try and just do this step and see if it works:
6. Run the Diagnosis app and dial this to enable auto configure sim setting: *#94765#
It will ask you to restart the device. Confirm that.
In all honesty I'm not sure why only this method works, and not any of the others like using samsung tools. It must do something slightly different. As to why it only works once I'm not sure - I think after running it once it changes something in the registry located here:Local Machine\System\AutoDataconfig.
You will need to use Heathcliffs wp7 root tools to access it.
If you want to compare the values you have with mine that might be a start as to working out why:
My values are as follows
Attempt = 0
ConfigurationStatus = 1
MaxAttemptsAllowed = 3
RunADC = 0
If you make a note of your current values, and then try step 6. shown above and then make a note of them as well and then post them here that would be a start.
You can download the root tools xap here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265321
Cheers
Hey mate, thanks, I know what r talkin abt, but the problem is I still canae receive mms...
My value is 1131, which means I did turn adc on.

I tried *#94765#, it indicated me "adc is not been turned off, power off now", i said yes
then after booted up, MMS didnt workd either
so I turned adc on by usin dignosis
MMS didnt work either
then I tried changed registry into yours which is 0130
mms didnt work
then I tried dignosis, it said "now turned off"
after reboot, it didnt work
then i using dignosis, *#94765#, it says "now turned on, reboot"
after reboot, it didnt work EITHER!

I just wanna say, what the problem w/ microsoft?? Cant it just make WP7 basics as simple as normal style?? Like using sms to receive MMS/Internet settings, y just wp7 cannot do that?? Is Microsoft moron or sth?? And as well as Bluetooth? y no HID profile? Y no OBEX profile? What's the problem w/ MSFT, CRAP!

Hey mate, I got it bk to work, first, using samsung network profile change it to Orange UK, then reboot, then use network profile again, change it to H3G, BOOM, IT WORKED
---------- Post added at 04:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:13 PM ----------
Yup 1 more thing to say:
SAMSUNG is moron, when I changed newwork profile to Orange UK, I lost all my IE bookmark....
So mates, b careful to backup all your bookmarks b4 u change SIM card or network profile
cheers
@xyhchina how did you use the samsung network profile app?
That app is only available in the US and when I tried using it on my phone it wouldn't let me do anything...
Glad you got it working!
I was using a US Zune marketplace account.
I dont think it was US only, try search "SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS"?
If u didnt c it, maybe uve fiddle with some registry before or after mango, cause the model infomation broken, I guess
I installed the network profile app - but it says my phone needs to be unlocked to be able to use it! So i'm guessing you have an unlocked phone that will accept any sim card...

CyanogenMod 12 Discussion and Bug Report thread

This thread is intended for discussing CyanogenMod 12 by @arco68 for our Galaxy W:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...cyanogenmod-12-0-20141230-unofficial-t2988830
NB. Read the installation instructions carefully as its quite different from previous ROMs.
NB. The first boot can take up to 50 minutes during which you'll see nothing but the boot animation.
NB. This ROM is still in its infancy, and many CyanogenMod features have yet to be included in upstream.
Huge thanks to arco68 and Christopher83 for making this ROM a reality.
Well, devs saddle up, end users rejoice...but this is certainly a huge amount of work done in a short time period, given the amount of differences.
...I'll miss Xposed until it's updated. Hoping that V4A will still work.
I've been using it for a couple of hours now, and I'm really surprised at how well its working!!
Most of the bugs I've run into are non-device-specific, and are due to the infancy of CM12 upstream.
Whats really funny is that not even my Nexus received 5.0.2 yet :')

Yeah, plenty of upstream bugs and feature limitations.
Hoping to get some magically unsecret things sorted out with CM12 in an effort to test various new things.
Seems like Performance option not implemented yet on settings. CMIIW
So, any idea how to get translucent status bar without changing build.prop?

Everything has gone fine until I install a "smartkeyboardpro" offline apk. After the apk installation finished, the screen went blank and i didn't see any display responses on the screen. But when I pressed and hold the power button, 'shutdown' and 'reboot' options appeared so I just rebooted my phone. The phone then rebooted and there came up a 'android is upgrading' followed by 'android is optimizing 1 app'.. but it seemed to take forever that I decided to re-wipe and re-install the rom
On the second boot, I got optimizing 3 apps message too. Took about 15 minutes.
Subsequent reboots are all fine.

yeah it took so long and i never thought that it would last like 15 minutes..
I'll try to install offline apk again and see what happens..
The optimizing apps on second boot is TRIM running. Google changed this in 5.0.2, so now it is run automatically once a day. Either during the night while phone is charging or after you reboot.
After I log in to my google account, google ask me to backup data and apps or not
Then I choose yes and just select 5 apps (total around 80 Mb)
Then it says restoring...
It is so long waiting. So, I reboot and I cant bypass to launcher. It still says restoring after I reboot. Im still waiting now...

that's because you've select to restore your applications that synced on google play (backup) service, So you have to wait until all apps installed.

encryption unsuccessful ,how can i fix it;? please help
I don't think encryption on a phone like ours is a good idea. (single core, 512MB, very slow MMC)
It slowed the hell outta my new Nexus!!
Any ideas on what to do with the .img files inside the zip if I, say, wanted to edit the system contents before flashing so I can remove/replace applications?
I found strange black screens inside folders gallery, all black screens persist for every single picture on gallery, and make looks like cheese board pattern

So I reinstall and select nothing. It works. I dont know what is the problem anyway. If I watch youtube, the restoring is just less then a minute then it jumps to launcher then continue to download selected apps. In my case, it stucks at restoring...

This is fixed with latest CWM 6.0.5.1 fresh install from here. For flashing details see first post at CM12 Mr. Arne thread, especially CWM section. I also have been updated my CWM few months ago to apparently "old" 6.0.5.1, but there was no option "format /data and /data/media" under "mounts and storage" menu. Only "format /data". Good Luck!

[compatibility patch 20160722] [lg g3 d855] [6.0 stock mm]

Yesterday a new update appears in LG G3's Update Center. It has the name Compatibility Patch (20160722). It says that is a patch that it is important for apps compatibility or something like that. I downloaded the update and then I had to restart the device in order to install the update. Do you know anything about this update?
I have to reboot after patch installation over and over again
I use fulmics 5.3 and this patch came out. I installed it, no issue.

Same here. Shows up after every reboot.
I found a solution myself.
My device was encrypted. So I removed the encryption, rebooted the device started new and Taaa-Daaa!
Patch notification has gone.
Mine's encrypted, too. Sad, this seems to be the solution.

Yesterday I have installed those Compatibility patch on my D855 (fulmics 5.3).. And this was a mistake.
Yes, I can confirm that the phone charges much more faster with the patch installed..
But the battery is discharging also very fast now! Faster than before.
Anyone have an idea how to uninstall this thing, or bring back the previous version of the apk file
which was in the system before this upgrade, without hard reseting or reflashing entire phone again?
Thnx in advance.
BTW.. TitaniumBackup can not uninstall this, shows only info: "the app can't be uninstalled, because there is no apk file".
And the second question..
Can this apk file be safely deleted manual from the system?
Or anyone can upload from own phone the original app: com.lge.systemupdater from the fulmics 5.3?

First of all you know that this is an official patch from LG so no harm to instal. But if any one have issues after installing it like you said battery discharging faster and so I really have no idea about it is really happening due to patch or so. If you want to remove this patch there is no way unless you do something and screwing up your phone. The most simple way what i did was freeze the application from T.B. and turn off the application's notification by going to the settings...apk..comppatch..notification...disable all notification and you are done. And ha don't do any stupid thing by touching anything to system files you will end up in boot loop so careful. My above method is simple and only way to come out. Those who want to keep the patch there is no harm they can keep as it is the patch.

Honestly?
This is no answer to my questions.
- Yes.. I know that is from LG.
- Yes it is a way to remove (always is a way)
- Freezing does NOTHING in my case - the patch was already installed, the app was autofreezed in the TB, there was no any nags, notificacions etc.
- Why should I not touch anything? heh.. mega-lol
- Your method does nothing but freezing the already installed app. Means: the patch is applied already - so.. a bit to late for freezing.
- "..there is no harm.." - heee?! What?! No harm? Then how to describe so fast battery discharging? Feature? Bonus? eeeeeeehhh.. Maaaannn..
Ok.. back to the clue..
Freezing is not a fix.. in my case. Is jus a workaround and not so very functional.
Update:
Problem solved - I do a dirty reflash of Fulmics 5.3 and this crappy patch is gone.
My phone (battery) works now ok.
BTW..
LG should inform the people what exactly this "compatibility update" do in the phone(s)!
They should give us an option to uninstall/remove them.
But.. they do an piece of crap.. as usual.

Latest HTC lockscreen update essentially soft bricked my phone.

Hi all,
The latest update has some issues- the OS boots and I am immediately presented with a system.ui has been stopped dialogue. I'm unable to open the app drawer, open an app, open the notification drop-down. The popup appears almost immediately after dismissing. I think the Testers really missed something here.......
I'm going to have to try and locate the previous version and hope I can install it through twrp.
Has anyone else seen this happen?

I was unable to install the apks located there in the traditional way. I tried to install them through TWRP via adb push file.apk /system/app but it didn't work. I'm unaware of how to install APKs outside of the system otherwise? Regardless, downgrading, if this method is viable, didn't work. I had to completely wipe clean and start fresh.

Do you encrypt your phone? I feel like the update didnt transfer encryption presets and new app is trying to unlock without decryption codes or something.

Wipe and start over. I had to. I have work calls that I can't be absent for. Thanks HTC. My phone was out of service for ~3 hours while I figures this out and the phone got completely usable again after flash+settling.

I do mate, it's stock still. I didn't have to change anything regarding that, fired up as normal and asked for my PIN to decrypt device.
Just thinking, if you can battle it go and uninstall the update via settings and apps

Viper 3.5.0. I haven't upgraded to ANdroid 7.0 for reasons.

Not sure if HTC is to blame, or we...or you being still on marshmallow.
Next time please post in the viper thread, then I would have seen your post much earlier to debug your issue.
we found the issue.
run:
adb shell settings put system tweaks_hquicksettings Tweaks
..and it will be fixed. when you resetup your toggles, don't pick any of the two sync toggles.
I'll create a flashable zip to remove those soon.

You should have been able to fix it without wiping by booting to recovery and dirty flashing the ROM.
EDIT: No, this actually won't work. Sorry

Thank You! Flashing this file fixed the issue and saved me a huge headache. Now to take away the HTC Lockscreen app's
"auto update" rights since it clearly can't be trusted.

read the info on our homepage.
Not sure who is to blame, htc or we.
You can install the update, with either the fix installed or the sync toggles removed.
or you dirty flash the fullrom on top, that way the sync toggles stay working.

There's a few xposed modules I like.
Is nougat really that big a difference? I have it on my tablet and it's very similar to marshmallow.

guiness is also just a usual beer.
Well I like Marshmallow and Nougat. But I don't like Guinness!
If Guinness had Xposed modules then I'd drink it!
I have this problem on my m8 as well. Unfortunately I was not able to solve this problem with your post. I cannot execute the adb command since adb is telling me that my device is offline (I booted into the OS with the screen going on and off).
I also flashed the zip file, but it didn't work out either. I am not sure which version of viper I have (I assume it's the 6.0.1), so I tried different zips but no success...
Could anyone tell me what I did wrong? I really don't want to do a full reset.

another way would be to go to twrp->advanced->file manager
navigate to /data/app/ and delete the com.htc.lockscreen folder do the same in /data/data
boot up, then go back to recovery and flash the fullrom on top.
if nothing helps, you can do a twrp backup, then clean flash. Now you can restore your apps and data with titanium backup.
Been looking for a solution to this ! My gf phone had the exact same issue, dirty flashed and still no good etc.
I shall try the packages J posted. Thanks so much!

"com.android.providers.downloads.ui" causing performance issues

Hi
Recently I bought an A5 (2017) cell phone, but I'm facing terrible performance issues (lagging, delays, crashes and noise during sound playback).
Additionally I get the message that com.android.providers.downloads.ui is causing performance issues. (unfortunately I'm not allowed to post screenshots.)
Interestingly when I use the "Device Maintenance" in Setting and clean the RAM, the problem is gone. I tried to close the apps one by one to find out the one that is causing the problem, but I wasn't able to do so.
I tried freezing com.android.providers.downloads.ui by cmd appops set <package_name> RUN_IN_BACKGROUND ignore and the problem was solved, but when I wanted to use Play Store, it said that I had to enable Downloads app.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reply.
I did wipe cache and it seemed to fix the problem but after a while the problem was back. I can't root my phone and there is no option for wiping dalvik in recovery mode.
About last option, does flashing stock ROM delete my apps and data? And where can I download stock ROM?

Flashing the ROM won't delete anything on your phone.Visit SamMobile and look for your model to get the correct ROM(Instructions can be found on the site)Also click thanks!?
You have been deleting things. This has caused the "com.android.providers.downloads.ui" error. Use Odin to flash your firmware to restore everything to normal. When you flash the firmware, choose home_csc to avoid deleting your data. Otherwise you will lose everything

I don't know how you got that I've been deleting things, maybe because of my bad English, but I haven't.
Actually, I started to disable (or freeze) the Download Manager after I received the "com.android.providers.downloads.ui" error many times.
I really prefer not to flash my phone, because it's really hard for me to install the apps again.
It will be great if you could suggest a way to overcome the problem without losing my apps or data.

Sorry....I see you are not rooted. That's fine.
Option 1....downgrade Google Play Services - locate in apps and uninstall updates. This will revert to an earlier or factory setting.
Test it and let me know

That's wrong actually you just flash the ROM,I did it multiple times and no he can't delete system stuff in order to cause those errors otherwise phones would have been complete trash.I really don't know why it's trash since it's brand new though?

I mispunctuated my reply earlier. No big deal.
I was on the understanding that if the CSC is flashed as part of the main firmware installation everything goes however, if HOME_CSC is flashed, data remains.

There is no such option as "uninstall updates" in Google Place Services in app section. And the disable button is grayed out. I googled, and it seems I need to root my phone to be able to downgrade Google Play Services.

Hi. Sorry - just seen this.
Okay. In Apps section, tap the 3dots at the top right of the screen and select "Show system apps".
When loaded, scroll down to "Google Services Framework". Tap it. Tap Disable.
Reboot. Repeat process to then enable. Reboot. See what we have.
It's just a case of diagnostics now, if you want to avoid the flash route (we'll try and keep that as last resort - but you will not lose data using my method above)

I downgraded the Google Play Services, but unfortunately it didn't work. The problem is same and additionally Media app (containing Downloads and Download Manager) is draining my battery too.

It's driving me crazy!!!
When I disable MTP Host the battery draining and performance issues are gone, but of course some the other necessary features would be out of access too.
I was wondering if there is any way to update or replace MTP Host!?
