Is it possible to move Navigon maps on extSD? - Galaxy S III Mini Themes and Apps

Hi guys, I've installed Navigon Europe on my S3 Mini and it downloaded all the maps on the internal sd.... is it posible to move only the maps on the external sd?
More difficult: what about moving only some maps on external SD? I live in Italy so it will be very nice if I can leave Italy maps on internal SD and move all the others map on external...

You'll need root for that. Then you can use directorybind or foldermount to symlink your maps.

My Navigon File is in the extSDcard.
I just moved the folder from the internal to ExtSDcard and Navigon works fine.
PS Nearly all my GPS programs ( Sygic -TomTom etc ) are in the ExtSDcard

Thanks guys!

So all i have to do is cut and paste the navigon folder to my external sd card and it will work? I think you will lose the widget functions doing this. Is that correct?
Thanks.

For anyone finding this via search, you may have to use RootExplorer to modify two files before this will work:
/data/data/com.navigon.navigator_{region_type}/shared_prefs/install_preferences.xml
and
/data/data/com.navigon.navigator_{region_type}/files/NaviKernelConf.ini
Just replace the old location with the new location (default location will vary by phone model).

It's dependent on device. It didn't work for me until I made the changes to both files, and this is the top search result for getting Navigon to move to external SD, so I decided to be helpful for anyone else trying to get it to work.

TomTom 7: Unable to start. Not enough memory is available.

What the hell? Before I've changed the File system cache to auto it did work! But now that I have much more ram available about 21MB, it doesn't want to start. So I tried to go back to 4MB file system cache... but nothing, still that error message.
TomTom 7 is installed in the memory card... wtf???

I've had this happen before, and if I remember correctly, it was a corrupt Map File. I restored an earlier copy of my maps to the SD Card, and all was good again.
Try hiding your maps and see if TomTom will run. It should ask you to use a Voucher. If it does, then it's the map problem and TomTom is fine.
Nope, I've tried this tip but no success... It's really odd...
Hi Zooster. Sorry to hear about the headache you currently have.
I have had similar problems in the past month, the first time really freaked me out.
In my case, I noticed that some of the files on my sd card know longer showed up, and later discovered that others had indeed become corrupted.
I solved it (and continue to do so when it happens) by formatting my sd card and copying back onto it a copy I have of all the Tomtom files. Infact, once you get it working again, I suggest you regularly make a copy of whatever is on your sd card in case it happens again. For me, it seems to be ROM specific, i.e. only happens when I flash some of the new ROMs. Sometimes the sd card suddenly stops showing up in file explorer, sometimes I just need to remove tomtom and then reinstall it.
The problem for you now may be getting the original Tomtom files, I guess it depends where you got them from.
When I flash some ROMS, this problem occurs. I have to avoid ROMs that do that and choose another.
I hope you manage to sort it out. I know what's it like when these things suddenly go wrong for no reason! Best of luck.
Mattster.
Ok, I'll try to restore original files... I'll let you know.
WHAT TOMTOM FILES DO YOU NEED ON YOUR SD CARD?
There seems to be an awful lot of tomtom files on my sd card, so I've started to delete some and see if Tomtom still works. And it does!
I've got it down to:
My Documents folder with maps inside
Voices folder
plus the following files:
ALBUM.VOL
AutoRun
Autorun.exe-run
Start
TTN
TTN2003
ttnavigator.bif
I've lost the 2257 file (that apparently causes automatic self install of Tomtom when you insert the card) so if anyone has that I'd like it back!!!
So, my question to all of you Tomtom users is: Which files are actually needed for Tomtom to work?
(I know there is the tidy up option of chucking any mystery files into a folder, but I like to know what all files on my sd card are actually doing!)
Mattster.
Hmmm...
Just had this problem myself, but might have fixed it on my Artemis
Originally I copied the TomTom Navigator.EXE to \windows\start menu\programs and it worked
However; it stopped working with the "not enough memory error" - so I started disabling applications, uninstalling them etc.
Still no joy
Just out of interest tried the TomTom Navigator.EXE within the TomTom folder on my SD card - and it worked...
I've deleted the .exe from "my device" and created a shortcut to my SD Card and now it looks like it is working again
Going to keep testing now - but perhaps worth a shot

For tomtom, TTN is the installation file, the others can be all deleted.
After installation, we only need the following 3 folders:
1. maps
2. voices
3. zip
All of them need stored in sd card root path.
If you need the satellite view, then you need one more folder in your sd card root, which is "raster"
The file "ttnavigator.bif" is auto generated by tomtom everytime you use it, you will always find it is still there even you have delete it sometime before, just leave it. Also "ttnavigator.bif" is a log file for tomtom, so it is useful, dont delete this file.

In the 2577 (not 2257) map are the following files:
AutoRun.exe
Autorun.exe-run
TTN.cab
TTN2003.cab
So you just moved them to the root

Thanks Arjan. Thanks for the reply.
What I'm curious to know is, after a new ROM flash (i.e. before TT has been installed on their clean device) what TT files do they have on the SD card.

Sorry, can't answer that. Flashed my rom quite a few times but never bothered to clean up my storage card. Probably still got Tom Tom 6 and or WM5 stuff on there
i had the issue with artemis and tomtom Navigator v7.910.9185. It was on sd. Then i deleted voice and raster folder and suddenly the problem solved!
Then i copied voice folder back to sd with 3 voices (before i had about 25) and now it works like charm.
I have had this same 'memory' problem on a few devices,
it has always been sorted by an SD card format and a card restore from my PC.
as to Tomtom after a re-flash ... I have never had any issues with it at all,
I just restore a full backup with SPB backup.
i have tomtom 7 ver. 7.910 on my p3600 running wm6 pro but seems to always come up no gps device can anyone help, please send me a message soon thanks mossy
Go to Change Preferences, Configure GPS, Click Configure, Tap left Arrow to show Other NMEA GPS receiver and tap Select, Set 4800 Baud and tap Done, Select GPS in COM9, and you are good to go. Click Done to go back to main screen.
I had the same problem once, install chaps advance config an relocate the internet temporary internet files.
by default they are located in: \windows\profiles\guest
if you use youtube a lot and google maps i can happen too.
I get this all of the time.
the problem occurs when my battery gets lower than 70% and I launch TomTom Navigator 7.
what i do now is make a copy of the Map Folder and keep it on my memory card.
I also make a zip archive and keep that on my device (not SD Card) in My Docs or somewhere else with a copy of the corresponding .dct file and .bif files and installers.
this way, i can restore tomtom onto another sd card if need be.
usually i format the card and restore the zip archive!

Hi lancsuk,
In my case the voices folder is in the root of the memory card. It is working just fine. Do you have .chk and .vif files by the same name in voices folder?
rgds
astrell
You dont share with us which package you have. So maybe you use the wrong voices. Try these, multilanguage: http://rapidshare.com/files/21184949/TomTom_original_voices.rar
Copy to Voices folder, usually on memory card root
thanks guys but i found my problem but maybe im bigger fool telling you wat it was . anyway i had caught the mute button
My TomTom 7 defaults to Mute everytime I load it

[Q]Sygic navigation and maps on external sdcard?

Hello!
U have a problem with installing Sygic navigation, if anyone is familliar with it? It has a build in downloader for maps and poi. The problem is that by default it puts those file on /sdcard, in our case this is internal memory. Now what I'd like to know is, if anyone knows where can IO change this path so, it would install it on external sdcard. I need this cause I am running out of memory on internal sdcard.
Thanks!
I use CoPilot, however I found this: http://support.sygic.com/sygic/topi...samsung_galaxy_s_i9000_for_rooted_device_only
I think you can change a couple lines in there to make it work on the Wonder
Wow man thanks! I've googled it but didn't find this page . I guess I've picked wrong clue words . Must try this soon !
Hi!
you can just move the Aura folder in your internal sd to external sd card and then start sygic.
Sygic will find the moved folder in external sd.
Tested it here and it works.

Will try it now! Cause I am having problems with the method form previous link.
EDIT: Damn what am I doing wrong. It is not working for me.
Hi.
What version of sygic are you running?
This is strange. Some other users tested this method and it works for them too.
I'm running SygicNavigator_11.2.0. Which version do you run?
otherwise you can swap the memories
I have tested it on Sygic version 11.2.2. Maybe you can try to update your Sygic to the latest version.
Latest version is 11.2.5 and comes with latest maps.
Ok thanks for all the answers I've managed to solve the problem with version 11.2.3. Now I have another question. How to download poi?
Do you mean the latest map? Afaik poi comes together with the map.
To get the latest map you need to use Sygic version 11.2.4 or higher.
Then just use sygic downloader to downnload the latest map.
Btw did you just move the Aura folder to external sd by using the newer version?

I've been using iGo before, and poi files were seperated. So I thought this is the same here. I've downloaded maps, but there is onl maps folder no poi folder. So you are saying that is every thing included in maps? Are you sure?
Answer to you other questin, I've first downloaded base files and maps, and then move it to external folder, and now is working.
Hi!
for my country the poi is already included.
in sygic i can search for poi.
and i can also see the poi icon (restaurant, banks & etc) in sygic.
it is best to get the latest maps release with sygic version 11.2.4 or newer coz it is more up to date with newer poi.
does anybody try to put sygic navigation to external card?
I was looking around over web and I can not find any good solution.
Today I try following:
I have installed sygic and maps etc....on the internal memory. And application works OK.
Then I did following:
Settings - Developer option - Protect SD card (enable) and USB ebugging (enable).
With Es file explorer I move whole sygic directory to External Memory card.
I try navigation and its working.
Can anybody else try this and confirm that working?

Confirmed: moving the Sygic map from internal to external SD card works flawlessly.
This is what I did:
1. Copy the Sygic directory from the internal SD to the external SD card
2. Rename the Sygic directory on the internal SD to ss-Sygic (if something would go wrong, I'd still have all the files)
3. Start Sygic: it resumed from the exactly same location as when I exited the app the last time
4. Download new maps: no problems
5. Let Sygic calculate a more than 1000km route from Leiden (The Netherlands) to Brest (France), wait for a gps-fix and then until the voice navigation starts: no problems
6. Delete the ss-Sygic directory form the internal SD card
7. Repeat step 5: no problems
Additional information:
- Hardware: Samsung Galaxy SII; sdxc 64GB card
- Sygic: v12.2.2 (february 22nd, 2013)
- ROM: CyanogenMod 10.1 march 8th 2013 nightly; stock CM kernel; no mods

SD Card as standard

Hey Guys!
I took over the Wildfire of a friend and he reseted it. Now i wanted to put my SD-Card in it but all the Apps i want to download are safed in the internal storage. By Google search i just found solutions for saving fotos and videos on SD-Card but not Apps and so on.

Would it not be easier as it is to put all your apps into an online backup like SOS? (Link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...yLDEsImNvbS5zb3NvbmxpbmViYWNrdXAuYW5kcm9pZCJd
Then backup your apps, photos, videos, music etc.. After that download the app onto the other device, sign into your account and redownload everything to the SD. The way you're trying to do it just opens the door to confusion.

Unfortunately for you, mate, the Android is made so that an app is almost always installed on the internal space and, if the developer included this, it could be moved to the sd card. The location of the apk makes no difference and even if you moved it, it leaves parts in the internal storage (like moving only half of it).
I suggest you use Data2SD or Link2SD (I preffer the latter) to install whatever app you need totally to the sd.

How do you use it? Do you manually create the link ? I didnt have to do that with the stock ROM. Also in the app list, it lists many applications as
0 bytes.. and can't do anything with them

Yes. There is a "+" sign in the menu. Tap on it and FolderMount (FM) will ask for source folder (you can browse it via UI) and also asks whether it should create the destination folder automatically.
For example I have Sygic maps on internal SD (/sdcard/Sygic) which is a quite big folder, around 5 GB. So I inked it to external SD - FM autocreated it on external SD and moved the files.
Try to find Youtube videos about FM usage.
